I understood this, but wanted to determine the actual discount from MSRP.

looking to purchase a RX 350 2010, but the local dealers are not willing to come down with their prices. one offered a 1500 discount from MSRP. any recommendation(s) of a lexus dealer in the chicago area???

    Hi lexus car guy,

Do you think all of theses people stating their purchase price and experiences are lying? What would be their rational for not being forthright. I believe these buying experiences are true and that there are dealerships that are not so greedy and will lessen their profits per vehicle but, recoup the $$ in amount of sales.
  • jerry116jerry116 Member Posts: 13
of course not lie. but people wish to post their deal must get a good deal. like what I said even new cars are different. color/where made/small defects also affects your final price.
  • tennis_lexustennis_lexus Member Posts: 10
The discount price compares to MSRP? I can said between 3K - 5K+, it depends on more options on the car or not. As I said early, you need to know what's options for the car you want to get, and get the invoice price from edmund or somewhere, but not from the dealer, and list all the price and the options base on invoice. More options the big difference between MSRP and invoice, the less options the narrow gap between these price. I live in DC area, and the price I paid for RX350 2010 is more than invoice about 500, less than MSRP 4500. As I said it depends on the time-table and how's patient you are.
    Good luck!

I got my Rx for about 4900 off MSRP. I believe that if you are patient and not in any need or hurry the dealerships will get to your number. I was lucky enough to be in a situation were I did not need to purchase and really left it up to them to call me when they decided to get to the price that i was looking for. It took a couple of months but hey......i was in no hurry and they're the ones that need the paycheck.

Looking at a demo RX350 with an MSRP of $50,500 in Ohio. The dealer will go down to $45.5k. The car has just almost 3k miles on it. Is this a good deal?
  • mesquandolasmesquandolas Member Posts: 4
That doesn't look like a great deal. People have been able to negotiate $4500+ off MSRP on brand new cars.
  • bond8bond8 Member Posts: 33
Hey lexuscarguy...I dont know if you are a dealer trying to create a "good atmosphere" for selling or what but 4-5k off on the MSRP is definitely possible. I got mine a couple of months back for a discount of $ 5800 on a MSRP of 47.3k. I paid 41.5k for a brand new 2010 RX350. And there are several people like me who have been getting those discounts here.
Guys, Dont believe him and keep going for the big discounts. If one dealer (like the lexuscarguy) doesnt give you enoughdiscount, find another one who will. There are plenty.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
I have been following these posts for quite awhile. It seems that a discount of $4500-$5000 is quite good. Your discount of $5800, I think, is the best I have seen by far. Any secrets as to how you negotiated such a good price?
  • jerry116jerry116 Member Posts: 13
Color inside/outside. Where made. How many initial milage will also affect his final price.

Dude, I am looking for an RX 350 ALSO and I am in DC Metro area. If interested we can both appraoch dealer together and can get a very good deal. Let me know if that's some interest to u

rparis...The main thing was striking the deal on the last day of the month/ quarter since the dealers need to meet their quota. I had called up the dealership before I went thr and they had told me that they are already giving discounts of ~4K. Once I finalised the car the dealer immediately came down to invoice of 42.3. I had invoice pricing from edmunds and based on that I quoted 41.5k. I stuck to that and they kept coming 200$ at a time. The whole process took less than 30 min. Also I generally like to strike a deal at the first visit. Because if you return they know that you have shopped around and couldnt find a better deal. Also they have invested a lot of time in you and now they want their time's worth.

Jerry...My car is black with tan interior. When I got the car the odometer read 19 miles.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
    Thank you.
When I have gone to to dealers with Edmunds pricing in mind, the dealer invoice and Edmunds have not agreed due to advertising and possible other fees. Did you find this to be true assuming the dealer commented on what invoice was. As I recall, the dealer said they were working on about a $5000 spread on a car with premium, comfort, nav, as the major options. Am I correct-you purchased the car for $800 under invoice. What was MSRP and what state did you purchase the vehicle?

What grade of gas do you use and, I assume, you are enjoying the vehicle? I own a 2001 RX , but the 2010 has many features I would like, but am having a hard time justifying the purchase since my present vehicle is running great.

    Thanks again.
  • bond8bond8 Member Posts: 33
Yes the same thing happened to me as well. The dealer invoice had a ~$500 LDA (lexus dealership advertising) fee which edmunds doesnt show. Other than that everything matched up exactly. My price is 800 below invoice if you take into account the LDA. Per the dealer invoice, the invoice price was 42.3k. The car I bought has prem, comf, nav and 19" alloy wheels. The MSRP is $47253. I purchased the car in MA.
For gas I use premium (93). This is my first lexus and yeah I am enjoying the vehicle. I had some software issues but they are resolved now. Hope that anwers your questions.

    bond8,
I'd also like to buy the exact model that you bought. I also live in MA, can you share the dealership and the saleman info?

    Thanks
  • bond8bond8 Member Posts: 33
Surely... I bought mine from Herb chambers lexus in Norwood, MA. Its right off of exit 9 on I-95. Additionally I went there the last day of the month. That really helped. And generally dealers would be more willing to make a deal on something they already have in their inventory than something they have to order. Not that you should compromise on your color or option selection, but sometimes it might mean a huge discount. I didnt want the 19" wheels but went with it since this was such an awesome deal.

    bond8,
Thanks for the info. I'll go and check at that dealership and hopefully get a deal before the sale tax goes up!
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
Thank you. The only thing I can figure is they may have sold $800 below invoice, but made up the difference and more by meeting quotas and bonuses.

To the other individuals shopping/purchasing in MA (where I am located) any experience with the other dealers?
  • bond8bond8 Member Posts: 33
Exactly, there are some bonuses associated with meeting quota targets. If a sale puts them over the edge it is absolutely possible. Secondly, remember that the invoice cost is much different from dealer cost. Even at my price they did make a profit.

Hi, I was thinking of getting a 2010 RX350 AWD with the premium package for around $43,265 and some change. The only item this equipped vehicle doesn't come with that I would really like to have is Xenon HID headlights. Lexus makes it difficult that in order to get them in the comfort package you also have to get the nav and stereo package pushing the price up to almost $47,000 and I don't want the navigation system. In the 2010 brochure the HID Xenon lights are listed as a option extra so I wanted to know if it is possible to pay the service department and have Lexus put them in after the fact? Will Lexus allow you to do this? Any information would be greatly helpful and pricing figures might be helpful.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
I suggest calling the local Lexus service dept and asking them?
  • tennis_lexustennis_lexus Member Posts: 10
Thanks for your trusting, but I'm a little busy and not use to do it. Just try to base on the invoice and start negotiate at under the invoice and more up a little by little. I think the dealers from MD are easy deal than the one from VA. You can read another comment from MA, who bought couple hundred $ under the invoice. Good luck.

This forum really helped me get an idea.

Sharing the same for anyone looking for the same.

RX2010 350 with the following options { CP, ER, EY, FT, PM, TO, WU, CI, GN, WL }.
    MSRP 50525.
    Dealer Invoice:45342

Got the selling price at 44999
    Sales Tax 3149.93
    NJ Tire 7.5
    Reg/Title 399
    Doc fee 249
    NJ Online fee 7.5
    Total ( Out the door ) 48,811.93

    I also read www.carbuyingtips.com ( wonderful website ) .

From the first moment, after I had placed my enquiry through edmunds' Ray Catena of Monmouth was the first to reply with a realistic price quote. And they were the best among the 4 dealers that I talked to. All negotiation done over the phone and mail. I do recommend "Mr. Bob" from this dealer. Straight, no monkey business and no surprises.

    Regards,
    Misos

What was your approach to purchase below invoice? I am impressed with the individuals who are able to purchase under invoice.
  • jebelljebell Member Posts: 54
What the hell is NJ online fee? I have leased many cars in NJ, most recently last year, and I have never heard of or paid a "NJ online fee".
  • blackblackblackblack Member Posts: 2
    My approach:
    1. Applied for a load preapproval. Got from DCU.org. Got 4.9%. Also noted my FICO score.

    2. Put all the options that I wanted at edmunds and got the MSRP, Invoice price and TMV quote.

    3. Send out the request for quote on the edumunds.com.

    4. Went into the local dealer with my folder of paper work. Test drive and noted what the options it has. Typically the factory manufacture with certains set of packages. Then told the salesman, I have done my research and I know exactly what it cost. So please give me your last price. He went in and came out with the Sales Manager and the manager showed my the dealer invoice with the Lexus logo on the top and told me give me 500 over invoice $48834.

    5. Then I told them what is the out the door total. And asked him to send by e-mail. So that I know exactly what I am going to be paying for. I have heard a lot of horror stories.... a lot of surprises.

    6. Then started the negotion over the out the door cost.

    7. Now that I have the picture of what the exact MSRP and the dealer invoice, I just called up and asked a couple of dealer if they had the car I want and when they quote the MSRP, I can say if that is the one I am looking for or not. And only if they had on stock, would ask them if they would agree to my out the door (OTD) price.

    Some tips:
    1. Negotiate with only the dealer that has your car.
    2. Once you know the MSRP of the car you want, negotiate on the OTD.
    3. Get loan from credit union. They gave 4.9%. And if you pay 20% down you get down to 3.9% for 5 yrs. I got from DCU.org
    4. When a dealer promises, they they will locate a car for you, don't trust and waste you deposit and time.
    5. Dealer who can't negotiate the price over the phone, don't waste your time going down to the dealer.
    6. And read carbuyingtips.com!!!

Thank you-good advice My experience is that it is difficult to negotiate below invoice. How did you get the dealer to go below invoice?
  • jerry116jerry116 Member Posts: 13
in July they wont sell you a car under invoice price only if that car has some minor issue which is not easy to noticed. let dealer make some money and dont forget you are buying a luxury car. ;)

Just bought an RX 350 with Premium package for couple hundreds under invoice from Herb Chambers Lexus in Sharon, MA. They currently also have a promotion of 2 years and 20k mile maintenance with the car.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
Just curious, did you check the other MA Lexus dealers?
Am I correct in assuming the promotion is for all recommended service-no charge???
  • spasadenarxspasadenarx Member Posts: 1
hi, we are interested in a base FWD RX350 without any options. Some dealers told us that they don't make any vehicles without any options installed. Is that correct? If yes, then what kind of minimum options should we look for and what will be a decent deal for that? Thanks in advance.
  • mjensleymjensley Member Posts: 1
I was negotiating with a lexus dealer about the price on a lease for an RX350. I quoted the Edmunds invoice and the salesperson claimed that the Edmunds invoice was $1,200 too low. Has anyone had this experience? Is there another way to verify the invoice price?
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
I have never seen an RX with no options. It seems that certain options are always on the vehicles. It might be best to e mail various dealers and tell them you want minimal options as option levels do vary.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
I do not believe Edmunds lists local dealer advertising which may be part of the dealer invoice, but am not certain. Refer to post 2719.
  • hsmyers2002hsmyers2002 Member Posts: 7
Edmunds appears to include the advertising (TDA) in the base price. I believe the reason the Edmunds invoice number is $1200 less than the Lexus dealer invoice number is that the Lexus invoice includes the 2% holdback and 1% wholesale financial reserve. I've been getting quotes lately and the Lexus dealers include this in the printout they give you showing their invoice price. This extra 3% inflates the invoice price, but is usually rebated back to the dealer when the car is sold (as long as it hasn't been on the lot for too long).
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
Thank you- I never knew that this additional money was included in invoice pricing as you described. When dealer shows you invoice pricing, based on this, it is a bit misleading. What is the 1% financial reserve?
  • hsmyers2002hsmyers2002 Member Posts: 7
I believe the 2% holdback is to offset costs incurred in maintaining a dealership, and the 1% wholesale financial reserve is to offset the interest expense incurred when the dealer takes a loan out to buy a vehicle

Can you please give me details on the promotion also the date when it started?

    stryker74,

Thanks for sharing your experience from Longo. I'm looking also to buy a RX350. Do you have a AWD or FWD? Are there other fees added to the OTD price from Longo.

    Thanks,

    -f
  • ptruoptruo Member Posts: 5
I don't remember exact date but sometime in August. You can call Herbs Chamber in Sharon, MA to verify.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
What are the specifics of the program and did you negotiate with other dealers in MA?
Also, what was the actual dollar discount as invoice pricing seems to vary if advertising ,etc are included.
  • ptruoptruo Member Posts: 5
No I did not negotiate with other dealers. They offer 20k miles or 2 years maintenance (every 5k mile). They started out at 47k but I knew that bond8 only paid around 41.5k for his so I countered with that. However, they said they could not do it with the maintenance program. Finally, got it for around 41.8k.
  • rparisrparis Member Posts: 368
    Thank you.

    What was the MSRP?
