Ok, so when is that composite pickup box coming out on the Chevy Silverados? When is that 4 wheel steer GM truck coming out, and what do ya'll think of it, and is Chevy gonna have a version of the GMC C-Series?
in 2001 I think. 4 wheel steering and C-Series I don't know. 4 wheel steering sounds neat, but Honda did this awhile back with the Prelude and I don't think it went over too good. I could see a place for it though on these big truck that can't hardly turn anyway. C-Series (never liked the idea) cause you can't get it in a 4 wheel drive. Man, if they ever did I'd probably be the first in line...
Delphi, the GM spinoff and largest manufacture of automotive parts, is developing the steerable axle for the rear. It is going start appearing early in the decade. Apparently, it's going to be ideal for towing, with a highway mode that allows the rear axle to turn in the same direction as the front for highway stability. At low speeds, the rear will turn opposite for more maneuverability.
Some other people have mentioned that they have seen broken Chevys even before test drives or during. When I was test driving and I still go out to check out everything out there I too have noticed a large number of the Chevy 1500s with broken trim pieces, rattles, vibs etc. It kind of disheartened me because I was always a Chevy kind of guy. I loved my S10 that I had. I did not see these problems on the Fords, Dodges, or Toyotas.
I am not slamming Chevy saying they all suck and can't do the job, I am just wondering if the quality control pecking order is changing. Ford seems to really be trying to make quality products as of late and even Dodge seems to be trying to put their trucks together better then before. Chevy seems to have gone down hill IMHO.
Just thinking out loud. I would really like to see Chevy tighten up their quality because they really do have some of the best powertrains.
9000 some miles and I still love my Tundra Limited with the factory hitch. No problems, mileage is getting better. Averageing about 16-17.5 strictly city. I have yet to be in a situation where I felt I would have needed LSD. I really thought I would miss it but as of yet I do not. Very aggessive tires seem to really do the job. So far the back seat has seen a baby seat behind the driver seat, no problem, and a multitude of full size adults without anybody complaining. I wouldn't want to subject anybody to a 6 hour drive back there but the only complaints that I have gotten is from the ladies in the skirts who complain that it sits too high. So far I have not towed anything but I have filled the bed up a few times with various furniture and the like. Not much of a test I know but the truck did fine. I have seen a Green LTD Tundra get filled with a load of stone and the back barely sagged at all.
Good luck with whatever you drive. Hopefully I can keep reporting good news for my Tundra. So far 5 out of 5 stars. Oh yeah, I am yuppie and proud of it.
A full size bed can hold about 2 yards of stone...space wise....weight wise...1 yard of 21AA crushed limestone weighs about 2800lbs....with lots of sag in a full size half ton... I doubt a mid size Tundra with a "load" will barely sag.
Them beds on them tundra aint no wheres near that size of a "full size" big3 one. They be the size of a S10 or Ranger shortbed now. Good luck on this one now!
Tundras will outhaul any Shakerado 1/2 ton. Facts are facts. Don't try comparing your 3/4 ton - are Chevy 1/2 tons that wimpy?
Now for your luxurious back seat - I'm glad you like driving your limo around. I wanted a truck - not a barge. Try taking that land barge of yours off-road. The Tundra has a shorter wheelbase, tighter turning radius, is lighter, more hauling capability, more front seat legroom and 3" more ground clearance than the Shakerado.
What did you get the Z71 package for - the stickers? You obviously do not know anything about off-roading.
I recently checked out a Toyota dealer I've never been to. I sat in the back seat and I didn't think it was bad at all. First I went in the front seat and moved the seat to where I would be comfortable, then sat in the back. I could ride back there for quite awhile. It's still more comfortable than my parent's '98 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab.
1 yard of 21AA limestone....about 2800 lbs...about 800 over the limit of my old 88 1/2 ton stepside. ..about 1 foot below normal riding height in rear.. I hauled 8 yards of this....would you do that with your tundra?
Let's see who can HAUL more. Give me a break. Not everybody buys a truck to HAUL the maximum payload everyday. Most people buy it for a transportation vehicle, a light work vehicle, or as a recreational vehicle. I'm sure the Chevy's will haul more, but they won't haul it farther cause they'll be broken down sooner.
the point I made earlier is that these tow/haul rating for 1/2 tons is really not that big a factor. Most 1/2 owner tow a boat, go to the hardware store, etc., there not put to heavy duty use. I don't care if the Tundra's haul capacity is larger than my Silverado - I still feel safer loading it over capacity (2000 lbs.) than I would with the Tundra cause it's a bigger truck. But some people think 100-200 lbs. makes there truck superior and don't know these types of things and the only thing they understand is childish comebacks...
The Tundra outhauls the Shakerado. Sorry to break the news. You pay a price for that luxurious back seat. What do you want a truck - or a limo?
And for a truck to haul something - it can't be in the shop. The Chevy ranks quality-wise with Hyundais. Consumer reports ranks it -90% in predicted reliability.
2000 TUNDRA - J.D Powers award for best initial quality in full size pickups.
Yesterday I pulled up to the gas station next to a toy tundra and the guy looked at my Dodge with a Cummins and the first thing he said was "damn those things are big" We talked for a while and even he said the tundra was a little small. then he saw my 4 month old son in the carseat in the back and was surprised that the carseat fit back there he said he could not fit a carseat in the back of the tundra. He also said that other than the size he was happy with the truck though and unless the tundra takes some steroids he will not buy another one.
my Shakerado for that Tolietta so I can haul 200 more pounds. Please, I'll load this thing (as I've done before) 1000 lbs. over the limit and it handles it just fine - try that with yours and when it breaks don't say I didn't warn you. By the way, most of the "shakes" were associated with bad tires, not faulty engineering on GM's part...
This Tundra crowd seems to be the only time I have ever heard someone say the Chevy's bigger cab is too big?....sounds like a desperate cry for help to me?
...course they also say "a few inches shorter" is OK as well..
The Tundra interior is large - when you compare it to the Tacoma. I was at the Auto show a few months back and looked at all the trucks. If you sit in the back of a Tacoma for 15 seconds it is too long. Then when you move over to the Tundra it looks so much larger. The seat pad on the Tacoma is so uncomfortable I would not ask a dog to sit back there - the Tundra is soft and comfy -(in comparison) I think this is part of the reason Tundra owners think the Tundra interior is big (or big enough) and comfortable. It is like so many things in life - you don't miss what you never had.
This could be. It sure gotta be somethin like this now, as folks that be use too a real "full size" truck be seein them tundras for what they be: mid size. Good luck on this one now!
You keep posting that your Chevy makes your dick 3" longer. You must not get out much!
Z71BILL - As far as the haul ratings for the Chevy go - Chevy says in their own brochure that the 1779 rating is for a stripped, base, extended cab. You add a tow hitch - your haul is decreased - air conditioning ditto - auto transmission ditto, bigger engine, ditto. Do you get the point?
By the time you get the Chevy close to the same equipment level - your haul rating has been greatly reduced. Chevy does not specify payload for all configurations - they just specify the max.
On the other hand - Toyota specifies different payload ratings for different option packages - They don't lie.
All manufacturers should specify payload as the GVWR - the curb weight. Chevy does not specify their curb weight. (I wonder why?)
The biggest Chevy lie is the tow rating. I have seen 9400 lbs. thrown around here. Well, did you know that no extended cab Chevies will haul this - none. Yes, this is right - they lie. The 9400 lb. rating is for a stripped, regular cab pickup. If you have an extended cab pickup - it is reduced by the added weight of the extended cab. The trick is that Chevy does not publish the curb weight in their sales brochure.
I have read that the LS extended cab 4WD brochure says the max rating is 8500 lbs. but the owners manual says 7500 lbs. 7500 lbs. is within 300 lbs of the Tundra. All of the sudden, Chevy doesn't look so invincible.
What it all boils down to is that the only way to calculate payload is to subtract the curb weight from the GVWR. Toyota is calculated this way. Chevy is not.
The last Chevy myth that I want to explode is horsepower and torque. Even though Chevy posts that they have the most horsepower they are actually weak seconds to Ford and Dodge. In conclusion: I would not believe any sales data that Chevy provides. Read this: http://www.trucktrend.com/feb99/4x4/4x4_f.html
Every manufacturer "misleads" you or whatever you want to call it, example: tundra and fullsize.
Chevy CAN haul 9400, yes it is stripped but they can do it, who wants a truck like that? Ever hear of construction companies, farmers, etc?
So it isnt a lie, Chevy can do it, does everyone want a stripped regular cab? Probably not but the fact is Chevy can do it.
As for the horsepower last I heard Chevy has the most at 300 from the 6.0 but if that isnt enough for you the 8.1 will be out soon, I think its rated at 340 horsepower.
Bamatundra, did you actually read the article that trucktrend about the horsepower. There were some obvious facts that were misquoted and missing in some cases - sloppy research. They also compared the 99 models. I don't know what they did for 2000, but it's definately a stronger motor than the 99. If you need to haul so much you should have bought a one ton dually, but I suppose your tundra will haul just as much. It'll probably tow better to right?? Just like there commercial say?? 1/2 tons are typically not heavy towing machine and I have plenty of horsepower to blow any tundra away...
So now you are comparing the Tundra 1/2 ton to the Shakerado 3/4 ton? Those 1/2 ton Shakerados must be pretty wimpy. How about comparing 1/2 ton pickups to 1/2 ton pickups? Don't you think that this is fair, or does the Tundra so far outclass the Shakerado?
You just don't get it! I AM NOT COMPARING A TUNDRA TO A 3/4 TON PICKUP OR A 1 TON! If you compare a Toyota to a 3/4 ton or 1 ton shimmy shakerado - you are admitting that you have lost!
She hauled two loads of 15 bags(not 12 as was previously reported) for the front yard and then decided to do the back yard, too. I told her to get 20 more bags(she did it with one trip, too!) LOL! The Tundra is still running.
Toyota - Disc/Drum Silverado Disc/Disc Brakes Toyota - no engine oil cooler, transmission cooler, HD service package Silverado all available.
Guess that Toyota doesn't need that stuff cause it's so well built. Besides the fact that it cost about the same as a Silverado, it's mileage is rated worse than the Silverado, it's horsepower and torque are worse than the Silverado, but I can see why you like it because it can haul 200 lbs more? It'll probably haul it 200 yards and then blow up. What a joke...

You'll be eligible for a Chevy full size truck in about 6 years.
Even before the ext.cabs got bigger..they were still bigger than a tindra...and they have been off road many times.
It's people like you who seem to know everything about nothing.
I'm not comparing my 3/4 to the tindra...and I would take on any tindra with a 1/2 Silverado if i had one...
Ok....Let's compare 3/4 Silverado to 3/4 tindra..DDOOOHHHHH!!
How about 1 ton?...DOOHHHH!
Crew Cab?...DOHHH!!!!
..when does the Full size tindra come out???..DOHHH!

I don't care what your point of view is, but you should have the jam to place your name beside what you have to say!

I stop in here occasionally when I'm bored, and consistently am able to get a chuckle out of it! It's sort of like watching the Jerry Springer show!
I am more interested in 4x4 - per Edmunds it lists
SR5 1532 pounds
Limited 1406 pounds
Silverado 1779 pounds
who cares what the wanna be's think?

Wow....what a fact!
