Could I please have the current numbers for a 2019 Forester Limited & Forester Sport for 36/10 & 36/12 in Minnesota 55075.

Local dealer MSRP on the Limited is $34,677, after dealer discount it was $33,427 with a MF of .00145 and RV of 59% with a 42/10.

Local dealer MSRP on the Sport is $32,982 and after dealer discount it was $31,732. MF of .00205 and RV of 60% on a 42/10.

New to this whole leasing thing so any advice is appreciated!

Both of the money factors are marked up by the dealer, by the maximum allowed (.00050)

Once you get the money factor back down to base, you might ask for quotes on the 39 month term. Should be a similar payment.

You say you want to own the Forester, but I notice you don't want to buyout the CR-V, because of it's needs. I'll guess that will be your same issue when the Forester comes off lease in 42 months.

Try to figure out if you really want to own a car long-term, or if you just like the lower payments of a lease.

iceyhotj - I helped friends and family purchase 2018 CRV-EX and lease a 2019 Forester. Both of these options you suggested sound not very good. Dare I say you can do better.

There is a trade off in owning. You play the game of WHEN not if you will have repairs. CRV does have lower repair costs of the two according to published ratings. Extended warranties are rarely worth the paper they are printed on imo. You also will be paying off a car which will be around 10 yrs old when you are done. Wit the other side the new lease price is meh. Obviously, financial factors weigh in but consider like he said what you want for long term.

What do you mean when you say I can do better on the lease for the 2019 Forester?  


I have a 2014 Honda CRV EXL and the lease is expiring on January 1.  
I do not have the money to put anything down to buy a car and because of that the monthly payments are too high.  So I either keep leasing indefinitely, buy my current car or lease one more time and buy the Forester.  

There are no good solutions just the lesser of evils.

If you want low payments, then you'll never be without a car payment. The CRV lease is a good example. However many years you've leased it, plus five more years, if you buy it out. At the end of that time, are you going to keep driving a ten-year old car. That doesn't seem likely.

The new Forester won't be any different. If you want to be without a payment, then buy it, and pay $600/mo over the next five years. In January, 2024, you'll be payment free (with a five year old car).
