2019 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L Internet Price: $29,007

    Dealer:....
    Phone:....
    Body Style: EX-L 4dr Sedan
    Mileage: 20
    VIN:....
    Exterior Color: Modern Steel Metallic
    Interior Color: Black

I'm literally posting everything almost word for word that I received from them. (The above info is before their added discounts in my previous post.) It seemed too God to be true but I gave them quotes from other dealers and my discount includes the loyalty bonus. We've bought our two previous Hondas from this location.

Your other post obviously was not for the Hybrid EX-L, as that MSRP is over $30K, and the MSRP they list is only $25320.

Doesn't seem like they gave you a quote for the vehicle that you are interested in.

You were right. They made an error. I reached out to a few more dealers and got the best price out the door of $27800 after the loyalty rebate. This includes $300 processing fee and Tag/Title. For DC there is no DC tax for hybrids so that sweetened the deal over the standard EX-L.The processing fee of $800 in Virginia is crazy. Maryland is a bit more sane at $300.

I could have pushed for another couple hundred less but I thought that was a fair price.

I am from SoCal and visited Bay Area SJ and Milpitas, I helped to get my nephew a 2019 Accord Sport 1.5 Silver OTD $24,775.21 (cash deal) all tax registration and everything fee were included as meant OTD

Hint Honda dealer on El Camino Real. Tried Capital Honda but they could not beat the aggressive offering.

My nephew liked the car a lot , 19 yo and transferred to UC Davis ;)

So I am obsessed with this vehicle and have been acquiring quotes and asking for best prices from multiple dealers in Atlanta. The 2 best I can get is:

    Platinum white
    Sale Price: 25,616
w /Acc (wheel locks, tint, mudguards, trunk tray) 26,513
    Dealer Admin 750
    GATAVT 2058
    Non Tax Fees 80
    Total - $29400

    or

    Black
    Sale Price 26,498
    Doc Fee 700
    Sales Tax 2058
    Title 18
    Tag Reg. 25
    filing 100
    Total - $29,399

If I could get 28.5 out the door i would take it right now but I cant seem to get anymore out of them. I have already secured Honda financing at 2.9% for 5 years.

What trim is this? What is the MSRP of the car? Ouch - those dealer fees are high. To hit your target price, you need an extra $1k off. It might not be doable in your area. Do you qualify for loyalty? If yes, does your sale price include any incentives? If you are not sure, ask the dealer.

How many dealers did you reach out to?

I have received quotes from 4 different dealers within 50 miles. MSRP is $31,630. Im not sure how to qualify for loyalty. There were no incentives included on these prices but one of the dealers is within a mile from the house and would be the preferred location for all service work.

Regarding loyalty- If you owned a 2009 or newer Honda, there was a $750 incentive that was offered. It appears this offer expired on July 8th. I am sure the moderators would be able to confirm whether this incentive is still available.

I would expand your search radius to 100 miles and reach out to more dealers, if I were in your shoes. Let me review your deal, in the mean time.

You never mentioned what trim of the Accord this was for. Sports 2.0T?
At those prices, you are at between $2500 to $3380 (without accessories) below invoice before those doc fees.

I believe that the Loyalty is going until the 17th. According to an email I got from a dealer anyways. It was May to middle of July

It seems like you are posting actual deals, but could these just be dealers making overpriced posts? According to this web site https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/2019-Honda-Accord-Price-c28862 we should be paying much less.

I'm pretty sure 99% of our posts are from actual members, shopping for Accords.

However, your only post is a link to another car website, so I'm wondering about you. ;)

I'm in the market for a 2019 Accord EX 1.5T. I've gotten a few quotes here in the NE area. The best one I've gotten thus far is as follows:

    Sale Price: $23,956
    Docs/Fees: 283.50
    County Sales Tax: 1939.16
    OTD: $26,178.66

    How does that look? Thanks!

What is the MSRP of the car? Honda's website is listing it as $28,550 (including the $930 destination fee).

Your deal is around $2200 below invoice. If the sale price excludes any incentives, I would buy it. The doc fee is reasonable so it is a good deal, IMO.

28550 is exactly what I got as MSRP. I don't qualify for any incentives and loyalty actually expired 3 days ago (I incorrectly thought it was the 17th).

I'm actually still shopping that sale price around and there are two other dealers in the area that said they'll beat it. I'm not looking to buy until next week though because of time constraints anyways.

Any chance I could do better towards the end of the month?

You might be able to shave off a few hundred bucks at the end of the month, but be wary of dealers who say they will beat that deal.

When you are ready to buy, tell those dealers you will buy today for $2500 below invoice and wait and see what they say.

    Good luck.

If you did your own research about car buying and this forum, you would notice that folks like me just want to make sure potential car buyers get a fair deal on a car.

The link you posted lists the MSRP and invoice price of 2019 Honda Accords. If you have any suggestions about buying a car below invoice without paying outrageous dealer fees or BS charges, be my guest and SPEAK UP. If you have no constructive feedback to provide, then no need to comment any further.

Btw, I do not work for nor am I affiliated with any dealership or car manufacturer. I do not get commission, bonuses or a referral fee by helping people out. I have been providing free advice on this forum for more than 5 years now, helping countless folks get a great deal on a car.

    Have a nice day.

HI, I am trying to purchase a 2019 Accord Sport 1.5T in platinum white.
I have asked for quotes from multiple dealerships here in Hawaii. We are limited to 3 Honda dealerships on the island I reside on.

Dealership A quoted $28,784.03 OTD...I asked for a breakdown and he said it wouldn't make sense for a breakdown because it would come out to the quoted OTD price he gave me.

    This is 2nd quote I received from another dealership;
    Retail Value: $29,587
    Savings: $3487.00
Selling Price: $26,100 ($920 destination fee included in price)
    Doc Fee: $240
    Hawaii Sales Tax of 4.712% = $1241.14
    Reg Fee: $370

    Total OTD = 27,951.14

how does this look? Haven’t heard from dealership 3 yet.

    A = Tony
    B = Pacific
    C = Windward

    Right?

Edmunds TMV and KBB says you could probably get another $800 off the selling price. It's still above invoice but that is the paradise tax for you. :(

    Correct!

Yes, I've been going based off of my research that I've been doing these past couple days from all 3 resources that you mentioned. I know Hawaii is expensive, ugh! You think I can negotiate and have them offer lower? I need help on this. What do you think?

Dealership A quoted $28,784.03 OTD...I asked for a breakdown and he said it wouldn't make sense for a breakdown because it would come out to the quoted OTD price he gave me.

    This is 2nd quote I received from another dealership;
    Retail Value: $29,587
    Savings: $3487.00
Selling Price: $26,100 ($920 destination fee included in price)
    Doc Fee: $240
    Hawaii Sales Tax of 4.712% = $1241.14
    Reg Fee: $370

    Total OTD = 27,951.14

how does this look? Haven’t heard from dealership 3 yet.

Can you confirm the MSRP of the car? From Honda's website, it is listed as $27,110 (including the $930 destination fee).

    Info listed on their website.
    MSRP: $26,180
    + $920 destination fee = $27,100

Then the sale price you had listed do not make sense. What are the correct numbers?
This is exactly what was sent to me.

    Retail Value $29,587.00
    Savings $3,487.00
    Selling Price $26,100.00
    Trade Value $0.00
    Trade Difference $26,100.00
    Doc. Fee $240.00
    All Season Floor Mats $0.00
    Cargo Cover $0.00
    Cargo Tray $0.00
    Wheel Locks $0.00
    Warranty 10 yr. $0.00
    Accessories $0.00
    Sales Sub Total $26,340.00
    Tax $1,241.14
    Trade Balance $0.00
    Trade Net $0.00
    Registration $370.00
    Net Sales Price $27,951.14
    Down Payment $0.00
    Balance Remaining $27,951.14
The "Retail Value" is a fake price.

Your actual discount is $1000. (minus a $240 doc fee)

Thank you. So does the dealership come up with their own retail value? I was wondering where that came from.

All dealers in Hawaii add a "Hawaii Market Adjustment" to their price. If you ask them, they'll usually tell you it is to cover the shipping, land rent, etc... This is why the dealer websites usually list the MSRP and then a "Retail" or "List" price that is several thousands higher than the MSRP. It is one of the reasons why Servco Toyota is popular because they advertise that "you won't pay 1 cent over MSRP". Thanks Servco! :disappointed:

If a brand new model hits the island, you'll be hard pressed to get them to go down to MSRP for it. Not without manufacturer incentives anyway.

If you really want to save, you buy it on the mainland and pay the $1K to ship it to Hawaii. You'll still be thousands ahead than buying it locally.

To be clear, you are still getting a $1000 discount from the "real" MSRP. Not a good deal outside Hawaii, and maybe not a good deal in Hawaii, but you aren't paying MSRP, either.

What would you say would be a reasonable discount amount off of MSRP? I mean, if I really want the car then I guess saving a $1000 off of MSRP...but I’m definitely not just going to jump the gun. Keeping my options open😊

You can read up on past posts to see what folks have paid for this car. However, since you live in Hawaii without much competition from Honda dealers, as someone said, you might be better off buying this car (if you really want it) from the mainland and getting it shipped.

    Good luck.

Anderson Honda in Palo Alto, CA

    Accord LX
    MSRP: $24,640
    invoice: $22,630
    purchase price: $20,788 + standard tax/license/etc
no need to buy unwanted extras

The purchase price is the same as the initial quote. Many other dealers did not bother to match this price, and this is just $100 higher than the $20,688 price someone else posted here recently, so I did not try to negotiate.

There is also a $300 incentive for financing, but I passed on it.

Since there are quite a few new folks on this forum, I just wanted to post some helpful information/advice.

First of all, getting a great deal on a car takes time researching and patience. Sometimes, buying a car at the right time of the year (end of the month/end of the quarter) might save you more money, if the salesperson is looking to meet their end month/end of quarter sales numbers. Maybe the car you want has been sitting on a dealer's lot for a long time and they are motivated to sell it at a bigger discount if you can sign the paperwork ASAP.

If you are lucky to live in a metro area or close to one, then you have more competition from dealers and will usually be able to get a better deal vs someone who might only live in a town without that many dealerships.

    Here are few more tips:
    • It is always best to do all negotiations via email or phone. I would not recommend setting foot into a dealership unless you are test driving the car or signing paperwork.
    • If a dealer is not being forthcoming or something does not make sense/smells fishy, move onto another dealership.
    • I personally hate when dealers say: "We will match or beat any of our competitor's pricing". Why can't they just give you their best offer?
    • If you come across a dealership advertising a "no-haggle price", do not bother wasting your time trying to negotiate. Trust me on this.
    • Do not hesitate to put a dealer on the spot by telling them that you will buy the car TODAY at $XX,XXX or $X,XXX below invoice (Only do that after you have done your research and are ready to buy that day/weekend).
    • Knowledge is power - When working on a deal, it is always best to know all the details (I will explain in a sec).
When requesting pricing from a dealership via email, here is the info they should provide:
    1. MSRP of the car (including the destination fee): This is usually listed on their website. If you are unable to find it, ask them - You can check honda.com to confirm that info.
    2. Sale price of the car (before any incentives): This is the most important number since your sales tax is calculated from that price.
    3. Any incentives you might qualify for, such as recent college grad, military, loyalty, etc...
    4. Dealer doc fees: If you live in a state like Florida, where dealer fees are pretty high (more than $800), it could turn a good deal into a bad one.
    5. DMV fees: License, title and registration fees.
    6. Cost of any accessories on the car: Some dealers like to add BS add-ons for pure profit. If a dealer is refusing to remove some of these accessories (if you don't want them) or is unwilling to negotiate the price of accessories, then move onto another dealership - I understand that "paint protection" and other similar accessories cannot easily be removed. I would just tell the dealer to find me a car (in the color combination I want) that has no accessories.
At the end of the day, always remember that you are in control of the deal and can walk at anytime. Do not get emotional over a car or a deal. DO NOT just focus on a monthly payment or OTD (Out The Door) pricing, since dealers can sneak "extra profit" for themselves into the deal or move numbers around to achieve a monthly payment.

Hence, when asking someone to evaluate your deal, I would suggest posting the first four numbers from the list (MSRP, sale price, incentives and dealer doc fees).

    Good luck.

Did you pay cash and hence the reason for turning down the $300 incentive? Or did you use your own financing? Just curious.

One more car buying piece of advice - always have a backup dealership when you are close to signing a deal. What do I mean by that?

For example, say you negotiated your best deal with Dealer A for $2k below invoice (your best deal). Dealer B is only able to offer you $1800 below invoice. So you go with Dealer A, and as you are finalizing the paperwork you notice some shenanigans and all of sudden the price goes up. You can "always" fall back on your backup dealership (Dealer B ), as long as they still have the car you want at the price they quoted.

    I am speaking from experience.
