    Thank you so much! This is an incredible resource. First quote from dealer seems way off to me, landing at $403-412/mo, $0 down, at a selling price of 27,648 and after taxes etc at 30,857.

    Shop more dealers to see if you can get a bigger discount from sticker.

    Also, do you know what the dealer added to the selling price that added over $3000?

    Even with lower selling price, not sure it’s possible to get to mid or low 300s

    Every $1000 off the selling price is roughly $30/mo lower payment.

    That’s a great question, I need to find an answer. Another dealer quote on a premium (MSRP 33340) indicates $184 in tax. So there might be something to work with there

    Only 1 base model in any lot within a couple hundred miles. So afraid I’m not gonna get any traction there.

    There are generally 3 ways in which tax is applied to a lease:

    1. Tax the entire sales price - only three states (TX, MD, VA) do this
    2. Tax the sum of the payments, non-tax fees and down payment - customer can either pay this amount up front, or add it into the selling price and make it part of the payment. NY, NJ, IL and GA are some of the states that do this.
    3.Most states simply subject the monthly lease payment to the established sales tax rate, and you pay as you go.

    I've tried to build a reference sheet for myself that shows the different tax applications by state, but the row for LA is blank.

    Your state departement of revenue website may be able to shed light on this.

    Looking at my previous lease agreements in Louisiana, it looks like the norm is to tax the monthly payment (10%). Running numbers on the quote from Subaru here, it looks like they're applying something like a 10% tax to the selling price. But even then the numbers are slightly off. Contacting for clarification.

    Okay, I screwed up: the $2750 tax was for financing. They didn't give me any breakdown on the lease. But after following up, he said the quote includes a .00075 MF and a 57% RV. With one in town I may not have much to work with, but I suppose I should push for the MF and RV you quoted--plus bigger sticker discount.

    Lack of supply is certainly hurting you here. They have it, you want it, so they'll make you pay extra to get it.

    I'll try anyway and be sure to report back. Thanks again. Curious what my monthly would be with the MF and RV you quoted. If it's 400ish now, how low might it be if supply improved?

    Edit: thanks to this site, found Leasehackr. If MF & RV are aligned and sticker goes down to market value, I should be able to get close to $310/mo. B/w this forum and Leashackr I feel so much better prepared!

    Paying the fees up front, doesn't change the cost of the lease, and that up front money is at risk of being lost if the car is stolen or totaled.

    I'm a returning customer so got some loyalty discount and rebates otherwise the cash at signing was $2000
