Ford dealership zip 48092 (I made a previous post) is telling me that I can’t reduce the ask price of the car (MSRP 32,500). They’re saying it’s set by Ford Credit and they can’t change it. They have to lease based on that cap cost. I’m trying to negotiate the price down to it’s true market value but they’re telling me they can’t (I told them I wouldn’t do A/Z or X plan). Can they say this or is it bs? How would I respond to them saying this so they CAN reduce the cap cost?
I don’t think it’s true because they kept trying to redirect my attention to the amount of money I would save if I would go with their A/Z or X plan. But, I told him, I want to go about this with no plan because I know they’re non-negotiable (as-is) and I want to be able to negotiate the actual price of the car itself. I told him to just play along. I said let’s say I come in and I don’t even tell you if I’m financing or leasing but I tell you the car I like and we immediately start talking price. We go back and forth and let’s say we agree on a price we’re happy with and it’s around invoice. Then, we can talk about leasing the car based on that price and then talk about the incentives that come along with it. And I knew it’s false because he said his manager would laugh in his face and wouldn’t take the deal because he could just sell it higher to someone else.
So, how do I respond to this and get them to accept my deal and be forthcoming that they are able to change the price and not lie that Ford Credit won’t allow them to?

You might best be served working with another dealer.
The residual value is based on the MSRP - that much is true. But, you definitely want to negotiate your best price from sticker, to help lower your lease payment.
All that being said, inventory is running tight, which does mean the advantage goes back to the dealer - they will want to make the most they can on every sale, as they don't know when they will get more cars.
Again, work with multiple dealers, and be flexible with color and options.

So, I just want to make sure...they are able to lower the price? And how do I respond to that because I can’t challenge their basis that Ford Motor Credit doesn’t allow them to change the price unless I have substance to prove them otherwise. Is there anything I can say so they know not to bs me?

Tell them you want to negotiate the price - if they continue to refuse, vote with your feet and engage another dealer.
