Just curious – now that Toyota Financial is handling Mazda leases (no longer Chase) my dealer has told me that gap insurance is no longer included in the payment we agreed upon.

Does Mazda have a standard price for gap insurance for a 36mo/10k lease? Or is it an additional dealer fee that they can play with to increase their profits?

My experience this weekend was being told it was $795. I declined and he said the cost was priced by Mazda. When we were signing paperwork the 'add ons' page came up and it was listed for '$395'. When I pressed the finance person on the price discrepancy he said that the iPad was showing prices 'as low as they could be when all the add-ons were purchased together'.

He then went on to tell us how if we got the tire/rim protection add-on we could scam them by following these steps... Mazda should be proud.

Used car values are through the roof, at the moment. I'd do some independent research to find out the trade value, and compare that to the residual value. It's possible you have some positive equity in your current car.

Carvana, Vroom or CarMax will give you buy bids, and call the bank to get the lease payoff.
