    Not sure how to ask this but when determining monthly lease payments, one generally needs to determine the price of the vehicle (historically and it is generally MSRP minus a few percentage points). Is anyone paying below the MSRP or is everyone buying the chip story and paying over msrp?

    Yes, knowing the selling price (and adjusted cap cost) is crucial to calculating your lease payment.

    There is no story - there is a real shortage of chips and, as such, dealers have the upper hand in negotiations due to lack of inventory.

    If you can defer your shopping, I would recommend you do so.

    Thanks for the reply. I’m helping my brother with his VW Atlas deal and I recently purchased a 2021 suburban in May in NY. I purchased my Chevy (rather than lease) which seem to be having more inventory issues than VW (I left a $1k deposit without seeing the car since people were actually buying these or leaving deposits before the car was arriving at dealers. Chevys opening offer to me was the MSRP. Final deal was approximately 2.5% below MSRP. So it came as a complete shock when 2 separate VW dealers in New york opening bid to us was about 4-5% above MSRP with inventory at the dealer. We found a 3rd dealer (at this point he just wanted to get into any atlas) and ended up working a deal on a floor model 4motion, SE Tech, no sunroof for a 2% discount off MSRP as a starting point for his lease payments. Probably could have gotten more but at this point going to 3 dealers he just wanted to get in a car. I think as Car buyers we underestimate the leverage we have.

    What is the residual value for the SEL AWD 2.0, 36 months 12k miles and for 39 months? Is the answer different with the bigger v6 engine? I’ve read through the posts but confused on it.
