The one I'm most familiar with is 4WD & AWD systems explained.

They don't talk much about FWD in there.

    Here's some others:

    AWD OR FWD

Why does the navigation system cost more per mile? Also, what is the rate per mile for buying mileage in advance? Leasing rates must have gone up in the past three years, as I currently have a 3 year lease with an Acura TL (no navigation) with the exact same parameters at $495.00 per month. Has the money rate gone up, residuals gone down, less manufacture incentives – what else has changed? Would appreciate any education with this.

    Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and I am crossing my fingers that someone can give me guidance.

I leased a 2010 Toyota Highlander in the state of Florida on 1/10/2010.
I was able to lease this car by having my mother cosign the lease with me.
I leave the dealership and we are good to go.
This week I receive a car from the Toyota dealership stating that they have questions and for me to come in.
It turns out that the Toyota bank is saying they don't want to approve my lease.
I have low credit score, but this was handled by my mother cosigning.

They have told me that the bank will not allow me to lease the vehicle.
I am confused because I paid my down payment signed all the paperwork and was good to go. Now a couple days later they want to take back the lease contract and not approve it.

I went through my paperwork and there is a paper titled "Conditional Sale and Delivery Agreement".

Can someone please provide me guidance on how to handle this? I really want to keep my car!

Thank you so much in advance,
    Elizabeth

Post your question here: Credit Scores and Vehicle Financing, and give our members a shot at an answer..

You do seem to have a pretty good understanding of the problem, though. That form basically says that if the dealership can't get you financed, then the deal is null and void. You'll have to bring the car back. Just make sure that you get a check for the full amount that you provided upfront.

I know you want the car, but if they leasing bank denies it, you really have no other choice.

Weird no start problem on both a 2003 Acura MDX and a 1994 Mazda Miata.

    I have a 2003 Acura MDX and a 1994 Mazda Miata.

The same thing has happened on occasion to both cars.

For no apparent reason after a short drive after the engine
is turned off it will not start. If I leave it sit for five
minutes, it will start right up. This has happened several
times. Today the Miata kept trying to fire by would not start.

I let it sit for a while and it started right up with no more problems.

The offer from the dealership for the truck in question brakes down like this:
    MSRP with Destination Charge=$36705
    Invoice=$33038
Rebates=$4000 ($2000 rebate, $1000 Bonus, $1000 Old Age(? older inventory)
The quote from the dealer= $30176 + Tax, Title License

    Invoice $33038-Factory Holback $1071.3-rebates $4000= $27966.7+$995= $28961.7
Delear profit would be $1214.3 or roughly 4%

The deal seems really to good to be true. should I even offer less than the quote? I am not going to finance through the dealer and I am not sure if they will try and pull the advertising, dealer prep, vin# etching, and dealer floor plan assistance scams but I hate to not make a lower counter offer.

It's my first time buying a car and I'm still researching the process of buying a car. I'm going to finance but right now I have a question about what is required to be paid up front and what is already worked into the car loan. I'm using Edmunds.com auto loan calculator and I'm a bit confused. I was quoted $28,739 for the vehicle I'm going to buy. That is only the cost of the car and it does not include dealer fees, taxes or anything like that. Here is an image of the calculator to better explain what I'm talking about.

    http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/8665/carloan.png

1.) Do I pay the sales tax up front when I'm paying my down payment or is that already worked into the monthly payments? I know at the bottom the "my monthly payment" says that the tax is included but does that incorporate the $2127 sales tax broken down into 24 monthly payments or is that in addition to the $2127 sales tax I have to pay?

2.) What else should I expect to pay up front? Preparation fees, accessory installation fees, things like that? I would assume that I do at least have to pay the $431 up front because I do need to "register the car and get the tags" (tags as in license plates for my car, right?) according to the dealer. So if I pay for the title and registration, what else should I expect to pay the same day? Emissions? Registration at my local DMV?

Oh, the dealership I'm buying this car from is located in Colorado Springs (as you can tell by the zip code), Colorado. However I live 100 miles from the dealer. Was it correct to use the dealership's zip code for the calculator?
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
Your sales tax, title and registration are all completely included in the calculated loan. You should check the quotation you received to see whether any additional fees were included and, if not, the dealer should be able to tell you what else is expected.

Also, if the sales tax is the same in the dealer's zip code region as tax rate in your own region then the calculations are accurate.

I recommend posting your question in Questions About Financing New Vehicles for further information.

The new discussion button isn't active for one or two boards, like Smart Shopper. You'll need to ask the host in those boards to create one for you (or visit Smart Shopper - Suggest a topic of discussion).

Otherwise the Add a Discussion link should be near the top of each message board page, above the list of discussion titles.

    Hi guys!

I'm new here so i guess this is the right place to post my question. My grand father owns a German Ford Taunus 17M from 1962. The car has been garaged for like 20 years, but is in very bad shape. The chassis, body and the interior is pretty messed up. The engine is still running. So i would be very thankful if you can give me any advice were i can find some tips and advices about restoration of this car, as well as were i can find spare parts and stuff like that, preferably in south-eastern Europe.

    Thanks!

    Hi Guys,

I need your help. last Sunday we went to a Mitsubishi dealer and trade-in my used car which I am upside down. They told me that I was approved for $399. When we went to the finance, we signed everything, after that, he told us that they will submit it to one of the credit union for auto loan.

I have a credit monitoring so I saw all the banks that they tried to apply for the loan, I called him yesterday and he told me that they are still trying to approve my loan. He told me to call today.

Today, I called him and he said that your loan has been approved but you and your wife need to go here to sign a new contract, I told him that we already signed the contract. He said we just need to do a little change on the maintenance package.

Guys, I need you help. I saw this when I was a looking around. What should I do?

    Thanks.

    Scam 3. Rewritten Contracts/Backdating

Often a customer will not qualify for financing upon the terms on the first contract. The customer may be required to increase a down payment, higher APR, etc. in order to qualify for a loan. The dealership has the customer come to sign a second contract with the different terms but backdates the second contract with the date of the first contract. This affects the finance disclosure laws in that the customer is being charged interest for a time period in which the contract is not yet in effect, etc. In addition to making a material misrepresentation regarding when the customer takes the obligation of the new contract, a backdated contract often also violates the single document rule (explained below) because another form (usually called Acknowledgment of Rewritten Contract) has the actual date when the contract was signed. Further, many customers are not told that they do not have to sign a second contract, instead they can choose to cancel the contract and return the new vehicle and have the down payment and trade in vehicle refunded. Finally, a dealership only has 10 days to tell you they want to make changes to the contract or cancel the contract. After the 10 days, the dealership cannot change the deal.

Cant find theme for this question so I put it here.

Before leasing for a new car, for the interest, I checked the new cars VIN number with Carfax. I was very confused, because new car from dealership had records.

    Dealership inventory with VIN number:
    http://www.edmunds.com/inventory/srp.html?make=Acura&model=TSX&year=2010

I checked Acura TSX for a different dealer, and i found almost all New York dealers had cars with 1-3 records. Other then that, New Jersey dealer's cars almost all had zero records. I didn't buy a service from Carfax, just checked VIN.

Can someone explain, what is the meaning?
Is it normal, the 1-3 records for the new car, from dealership?
Is it necessary to check VIN records for new cars?
Maybe it is just a Carfax trick, to make extra money, because Autocheck system didn't have records for the same VIN numbers, or Carfax has information, that is unavailable for another system?

I want to lease a sedan for my 17 year old who just got his license. The two cars we initially looked at was a base 4 cylinder Honda Accord and a base Volvo S40. As he will be leaving for college in about 18 months I wanted to do a 2 year lease. The dealers I visited said no one is doing 24 month lease programs anymore. Is this right? Could you please let me know if any major brand is doing a 24 month lease right now. I would like the payment for a sedan (safety is paramount) to be under $300 with no money down.
    Thanks

I think I'd start in one of the Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Experiences discussions.

Smart Shopper has a lot of buying threads if you don't want to talk about a specific make and model.
  • jeffw_00jeffw_00 Member Posts: 12
I looked in those places, but I can't seem to figure out how to start a new thread, and I don't see any along the lines of

"I'm car shopping, here are my criteria, here is what I've looked at, please give me advice as to what models to look at". Can you point me to a thread (or tell me how to start one?)

it's surprising that there's no place on this forum just to talk about "help me pick out a car".

Here's one for you already set up:

What's The Best Car For My Needs?

All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of the page where it says "Post a Message". Be sure you put it a title such as "Need Help Picking Out a Car" or whatever title you need. It won't accept a post without a title.

Then in the post box, explain what type of advice you'd like.

Soon enough (this is not a real time chat), probably within a few hours at most, you'll see replies to you (and other people) in the string of posts under yours. To reply to someone else, just hit "reply" in their message.

I've gone to AutoZone and tried all their different kinds of rearview mirror adhesive kits (3 of them). I also bought a new replacement mirror after the 1st try. I would attach the metal button as the instruction says then leave it alone for about a day before I screw in the mirror. Since I'm the only one driving the car, I never readjust the mirror again. After about a week, it falls off again.

Is there a professional grade adhesive I could use? Can I use super glue instead?

Never heard of it, so I did an online search. Seems to be about body language. Personally, I think most of that is hocus-pocus, given that a car dealer is only going to make a sale based on an agree-upon price that works for his dealership, not on how persuasive you are. :)

I see you've found one of the "prices paid" discussions, and that's a great start - determine what a good price is, then go to a dealership and make the offer based on the price you're willing to pay. They'll either take it, or they won't.
