Had a guy give me and my Tundra the evil eye at a stop sign intersection. I was motioning for him to go first and he didn't want to. Finally he went and I understood his hesitation. His brand new silverado was squealing like a pig. I think it was the power steering going south already.
what about all the Tundra's I see at the Chevy lots around here? Went to the Toyota place and no (new) Chevy's on sight. hmmm, must be that Toyota quality. More buck, less truck...
They call that one a plant now. Just one of them folk who got em the wrong one, and was wishin it was a big3 now. Remember, them big3 ones come from a factory, them tundras be comin from a grove. Did ya do that pickin of ya one directly from that "grove"? How many of them hi-lux ones ya still be seein on the road? Yet we still workin that 52 on that farm! Use ya eyes on this one. Good luck on this one now!
How bout them hard startin motors? Heard none of em start right up now, ya got to crank and crank em, for sure. Also heard them armrests and other interior parts be cheezy and wearin out quick! So much for that "quality myth" now. Been said before: tundra = less truck, more buck. Facts is facts. Guess this to be expected for a truck that be built at that "lemon grove"! Good luck on this one now!
You got that Silverado burnt oil smoke gettin' In your cataractic eyes now. That chevy chip in your brain, controlling your feeble, meandering thoughts. Best be stickin' to that cancer weed. You got that next generation to make addicts out of, now!
Don't be too hard on Libby. She is workin that '52 Chev HARD on that farm of hers. I wonder if she gets any help from her husband? At least she has the good sense not to trade it on a new Chev. That would be a huge step down.
Went to look at a Solara today (think the V6 Accord coupe is better) but anyway, ask the sales person why Toyota put the rear door handles on the outside of the Tundra - he says - "it is a big advantage" I ask why? he says " It helps me every day - it is the only way I can tell the difference between the Tacoma and the Tundra"
So much for the Tundra being a full size - sales people can't even tell the difference.
When tiredofwaiting first created his website, there was a picture of his truck among 4 or 5 others on racks. All you could see was the quarter panel, tailgate and rear lights.
Them tundra ones be sharin most parts with them tacoma ones now. Things like that pumpkin, trannie, transfercase, lots of sheet metal, interior parts, and most other doodads and such. They call that the "parts bin" one for sure. This could be explainin why them rear handles are on that outside now, just like Z71 be tellin. They sure aint "full size", thats for sure! They be "Lemon Grove" toyotas for sure now. Go out too that grove and pick ya a basket full. Haul em home in ya Chevy and hand em out too the kiddies for Halloween! Good luck on this one now!
For them folks that was "tricked" into buyin that "full size" lemon grove toyota, why not "treat" ya self to a big3 one? Get ya a real truck with some haul in it. Quit fad chasin, and move on up to a real "full size" truck now. Good luck on this one now!
"Went to look at a Solara today (think the V6 Accord coupe is better)"
What's wrong....doesn't chevy make any quality cars? Wouldn't you rather have a real car like a vega or citation....made buy GM. Quit chasin' them fad cars like the Accord and Camry. Their quality be a big myth now!!!;)
WHY in the heck are you bringing up the vega or citation when he is talking about a solara and accord. Thats comparing apples to oranges. Oh wait thats what you do compare night to day and vice versa
I really thought the Silverado back seat might be one of the better ones comparared to the others, but......another unhappy Silverado owner:
"right now my rear seat when someone rides back there bangs against the window and GM hasnt got a clue what to do..they told me it was a design flaw so until they redesign the back seat there will always be a bang against the window..."
This sounds like a real safety issue. How flimsy is this seat? How would it fair in a crash? Now, along with it's marginal brakes, potential for sudden uncontrolled steering loss and flexing cab, the Silverado has a faulty rear-seat! Normally, I'd give chevy owners some grief about quality....but these problems too serious to make light of.
GM sales declined 5% since last year. They have lost almost 2% marketshare since last year. At this rate - they should be ready for a government bailout like Chrysler soon.
Look at Chrysler - just before the bailout - their quality was horrendous (some would argue that it still is). Chevy ranks 26th as a manufacturer in initial quality. Down there with the Hyundais.
Toyota is having one of their best years ever. People when given a chance will choose quality. Now they have a choice in full size pickups.
GM is notorious for trying their new designs out on the unsuspecting truck buyer. The '99 Silverado is already ranked as a used vehicle to avoid. 4WD versions are even less reliable.(If that is possible)
Why is Ford tromping Chevy in sales? Because Ford is a better quality truck. The cream rises to the top. Now Ford has been one-upped by Toyota.
Truck buyers in the past were stuck with abyssmal quality(Chevy). Now they have a choice. It will be interesting to see what happens to Chevy sales this next year.
I'm sure it didn't escape everyone that when looking for quality...the loyal GM guys find themselves at the honda or Toyota car lots. I hear chevy still tries to make cars and some poor saps even buy them.
Still havent seen a tundra in the lumber yard where i work. Why is this they arent used for real work? Not many out there??? I see plenty of fords chevys and dodges all day long but no toyotas why is this???
REAL LIFE GUYS try living in reality once in awhile
Any folks heard these tells yet? Once inside, the rear seat is tight on knee room, rear seaters get to face forward. This mostly full-size stretch cab yields about as much knee room as the Nissan Frontier crew cab, with four full-size doors but a smaller truck. Sitting in the back seat with the front seat adjusted for 5'11" me, there is essentially no room between knees and front seat.
Front seats are slightly contoured, although they don't provide much lower back support. If you like mysteries, try the Tundra's steering wheel. It is vinyl and slippery; okay, we've seen that before. But it also has six screw holes in the back, where your fingers go, so when that wheel is passing quickly through your hands, it catches your palm or your gloves. That is not logical, Captain.
This be my favorite tell on em here:
The Tundra looks bigger than it is. Without anything around to compare it to, it looks like a full-size truck.
These aint my tells, so ya tundra folk dont be gettin all huffy at me now. Facts is facts. Go pick ya out a nice yellow one down at that lemon grove now. Good luck on this one now!
More tells on them limited ones now, this one be gettin too that truth and quick: An almost full-size truck, the Tundra carries a full-size load of contradictions. For now, the Tundra is confused. Is it a truck or a car, a working vehicle or a play vehicle? In some ways Toyota's Tundra is not a truck for the better; in some ways, it is not a truck at all. Price can be a concern with the Tundra. So, too, can character. But at base, we come back to the question: Is it even full size?
Them tundra ones be sharin that trannie with that tiny tacoma now. But the truth be that Chevy be sharin its trannie too! Yep, it be sharin that trannie with them full size Tractors now!
They call that one the HD for sure. If ya fad chasin, ya may not be gettin this one, but them the works em knows what this one means. Good luck on this one!
1999 Silverado is already listed as a used truck to avoid. I guess they don't fair too well at the lumber yard or workin' em on the farm. They're breaking before people have a chance to work em'. Best use some common sense on this now!
Oh RWELL remember that guy i said that has that tundra that never leaves the garage??? Guess what i seen yesterday amazed the heck outta me. It was in the driveway with a small bass boat hooked up to it. Must have went camping there was a bunch of stuff in the front yard.
Oh and the backseat comment - I have heard no complaints from anyone about this. The tundra should be listed as a regular cab. The space behind my seat in old S-10 (reg cab) had more room to put stuff
Mine is better.. mine is better + 1.. mine is better + 1 to infinity.. mine is better + 1 to infinity and beyond..
I sure do hope this kind of ranting stays here. It be sad to find out if some of us folks here actually spit and rant and rave in real life when they see a truck on the road that's different from they are driving.
Your posts remind me of one comment I heard about the original Little Rascals TV show (movie shorts?); the writer pointed out that the supposed "kid" language was obviously merely a poor imitation born of an adult-view of kid language. The example given was the sign "Leminade 5 cents per glas" which, even with misspellings and reversed letters, still contained the word "per" which no normal kid of that time would ever think to use.
Similarly, your "folksy" regional dialect purporting to be that of an undereducated, crass and crude "farmer" (met any real farmers lately?) has perfectly spelled regionalisms, clearly typed and carefully formed. Your roughness is too smooth to be believed.
Also, since I have no interest in such cutesy deceptiveness, I have taken to skipping over your posts entirely (nothing useful there anyway). I'm certain you won't care much to find that out.
Even so, I did want to take a few minutes to tell you that I think you are wasting your writing talent, your intelligence, your (and other peoples') time, as well as a goodly number of bits and bytes with these postings. I encourage you to look around to find something more suitably productive with which to occupy your time. I know you have the intelligence, ability, talent and time to do much better than this....
I have noted you maintain a respectable profile of common sense and moderation, making you the clear exception, and not even distant cousin to the bosom baboons, Rwell and Bama.
The rest of us drop in a quarter, turn a crank on the music box, and feed peanuts to the primates, all in the name of good, wholesome entertainment. Bama and Rwell have been providing us plenty, lately.
"Now, along with it's marginal brakes, potential for sudden uncontrolled steering loss and flexing cab, the Silverado has a faulty rear-seat!"
funny, the edmunds folks found that the only advantage toyota had over chevy was the braking distance, which pretty much makes sense. lighter vehicles will stop shorter (generally speaking) and so tundra did. but not by much.
the rest of your post...worthless heresay.
keep tryin'...maybe we should call you "the little engine that couldn't..." LOL!
no in fact i DIDN'T have anything better to do today. so, i scrolled through most of the "tundra vibes due to tires?" posts on tundrasolutions. as usual, bama and rwell's comprehension is severely lacking (i.e. out of those 900+ posts most are the same person posting. less than 20 people truly have problems...). on pages 11-20, i found 29 different folks who had "the vibe". couple of 'em were pretty fired up about it. see my next post (i'll hide it for obvious reasons - OBSCENE LENGTH) to read them all yourself. as soon as i get another 4 hours to blow off, i'll read through the next TEN PAGES of posts to share those with you too...
Are ya sayin them ones be full size or not? I aint gettin ya point on that one now. The Tundra looks bigger than it is. Without anything around to compare it to, it looks like a full-size truck. Now for the facts on that size: tundra Silverado Length (in.): 217 228 Width (in.): 75 79 Height (in.): 70 72 Weight (lbs.): 4088 4235 Wheelbase (in.): 127 144 Turning Circle (ft.): 45 46 Front Headroom (in.): 40 42 Rear Headroom (in.): 36 39 Front Leg Room (in.): 40 42 Rear Leg Room (in.): 28 34
Facts is facts, them tundras aint "full size". Good luck on this one now!
Good work Kyle - can't wait to see the comebacks! I'm sure rwell has a good story about a buddie he passes that embarred about his Chevy, but nothing more - hehehe he probably just makes it all up anyway...
yeah, i was going to make up some bs about all the tundras i've blown away at stop lights, pulled out of ditches, and had owners bow before me due to the insane amount of humiliation they felt in the presence of a superior truck (my chevy), but i thought sticking to facts works just fine for me...no need to make stuff up...LOL
oh, i was the DD this weekend for college football on saturday and we hit a local sports bar. buddy of mine that i work with has a '99 F150 that he bought last october (clearance as the 00's were arriving). after riding in my 'rado, he mentioned how he was having second thoughts about purchasing a ford. i asked him if he'd considered tundra when he was shopping and he laughed out loud before asking me if i was serious.
Go to tundrasolutions.com and read some of the posts and tell me which topic here on edmunds that it reminds you of....lots of good reading in them tundra sites.
I wish we could put internet filters for him, it gets thick sometimes, and he obviously has an objective view, and good humor. He gets a pass, community chest, $200. Advance 2 spaces.
That factory smoke be blowin in the wind now. That truth is strong and folks are hearin it clear now. Them ones aint "full size", and that quality aint nothin to speak on. Facts is facts. Watch em rust up, watch them head-gaskets pop, watch em wobblin down the road now. Been said before: tundra=less truck, more buck! Feel that truth slappin ya hard. Good luck on this one now!
