actually did tie an old tire to the front of my Tacoma once.. to push a friend's car home.. thought about towing but being a stick shift it was not so easy.. actually snapped the tow line we got from Wal-Mart
Like what I said.. I like the pictures! |o) (my actual smile there) I have chrome bumpers and grill, on the truck that is, I wonder if the black nerf bars would do?! Thanks for the visual aids!
with either chrome, stainless, or green nerfs. Have the dealer or body shop match the paint of the truck and seal with polyurethane three coats should stop the chipping.
That ratboy tundra sure aint workin or haulin or nothin now. Is this how folks work them forien ones? It sure got that shine too it. Good luck on this one now!
I thought that I was getting really smart just reading all of the info here, but now I'm very confused with the December issue of Motor Trend and their long term tests.
1999 Motor Trend Truck of the Year, Silverado 22,245 miles at 17.4 mpg and no problems. How can this be, this is such a bad truck. Oh, the boys at GM pulled a fast one and gave Motor Trend the only good unit on the entire planet.
2000 Motor Trend Truck of the Year, Tundra 8786 miles at 15.1 mpg with PROBLEMS. How can this be, this is such a good truck. Oh, the low mpg is because of 4WD and the tire wear for the same reason. Besides, the world is full of bad tires anyway. That was easy. But what about the cold-start problem? Did Toyota outsmart GM and send their worst truck to Motor Trend and send the best ones to their customers? Or maybe it's just bad karma, they named it Tundra, maybe they should have named it Death Valley instead and it would start ok when cold, but not when hot. Good luck on this too.
Looks like that real truth is gettin out on them limited ones now. So much for that quality myth for them ones. Motor Trend tells how they aint "full size" too. If ya gettin work one, get ya a big one. If fad chasin after that shine, get ya a tundra. Good luck on this one now!
bama'll be heading into hiding now. some good questions being asked. he'll come back with the initial quality rhetoric, some personal attacks and dodge all the meaningful posts...callin' 'em like i see 'em...
That may work if they take the bars down to bare metal and the finish them. My bars didn't chip, they are bubling the paint up (rusting from underneath).
Yesterday Motor Trend was an acceptable source of info since they had named the Tundra as 2000 TotY, but today we only want to believe Automobile Magazine. Oh, now I'm on the right page, thanks.
Good Point. When Motor Trend called Tundra 2000 TOTY all the Chevy fans called it a "comic book". When Motor Trend compared 4X4 extended cab pickups in May '00 and the Tundra beat Ford, Dodge, and Chevy - it was a "comic book".
Now Chevy owners are quoting articles from the "comic book"? I don't get it.
It seems to me that the Silverado for MT's long term test started out with weak brakes which got even weaker during their testing. Oh! I guess you guys just forgot to post that fact.
Check out all those posts on vibrating brakes. Bama is fixing his shaking brakes now. TSB's on them for star adjusters on drums, and warping front discs, pad replacements. Who could ask for anything more?
in #824 i said: "[bama will] come back with the initial quality rhetoric, some personal attacks and dodge all the meaningful posts...callin' 'em like i see 'em..."
and what do you see?
833 - well, initial quality i missed, he came up with "long term" test article from a CAR magazine (if you can call 15k long term that is).
831-832 - personal attacks.
834 - back-pedaling when someone calls him on changing comic books. i haven't seen many folks bragging on the 'rado motor trend long term results. just using them to refute what bama's been saying all along.
you can read the edmunds long term test of the '99 sierra if you want too. same basic stuff. they whine about the rough ride (duh! it's an off-road vehicle), the lack of a fourth door (fixed) and some other miscellaneous drivel that people who know they want and need a truck don't complain about (tough to drive in the city, blah blah).
i predicted this LONG ago. when king tundrat and his peons were harping on all the negative press around the '99 'rado, i told him the same thing would happen to the '00 tundra. because they're both first run models. and now, it's happening...
BCO the edmunds long term test drive for the sierra is funny reading isnt it??? How all they complain about is how big it is to manuever around the city. Also did you read where the lady clipped the mirror on that burb off?
i was reading it and laughing to myself. why on god's green earth are you going to do a "long-term test" of a half-ton pickup and give it to people who are going to try to commute in it? duh. i'll have to go read their long-term tests of family sedans and see how many pounds of seed/lumber/concrete/etc they tried to haul with those and see how successful they were. man, when i'm thinking long term test for a pickup, i'm thinking about giving it to someone who hunts/fishes/camps/hauls/tows/boats on an every-weekend type basis. give it to someone who's going to beat on the truck. then...tell me how well it held up. i don't care that mary sue thinks the z71 off-road package bounces her eggs around too much when going over bridge-spacers on the highway...
the good news is...most of the complaints those folks had were complaints that people who normally drive cars would normally have when forced to drive a truck. gas mileage, rough ride, tough to maneuver downtown, park, etc...
Actually, I have heard of this problem happening in a whole variety of vehicles. It seems that very few shops correctly torque the wheels back on after changing/fixing/balancing/mounting tires. They just use their air wrench with who-knows-what setting on its clutch. I wouldn't be surprised if many different disk-brake-equipped pickups don't really have over-torqued lug nuts and the resultant disk warpage.... FW(little?)IW
Weak t100 trannies and them pumpkins and transfer case be from them tacoma ones. Put em too work, and listen to em snap, crackle, and pop. Facts is facts. Use your eyes on this one now. Good luck on this one now!
I bought a 2001 Tundra about a month ago. I've done a lot of comparisons with it to my parents' '98 Chevy 4x4 w/5.7L. First thing I notice between the two is the Tundra's interior is definitely smaller. But I'm used to that. Then when I sit in my parent's truck, I feel like I'm in a huge room, and I wonder what the hell I need all that room for. More cubic feet of space=longer to heat up/cool down. Quality and attention to detail definitely stands out. The plastic on the dash of the Chevy is just weird looking. A good example of attention to detail is look at the knobs to open the back extended cab windows. The Toyotas is smooth with no rough surfaces, the Chevy's looks like they just twisted it off the molding and never took the sharpness off, it has rough parts on it. The back seat of the Tundra is definitely more comfortable. The Tundra is light years ahead in interior quietness. Everybody that drives my truck comments on how quiet it is for a truck. It's nice to have the radio on at a decent volume and be able to carry on a conversation with passengers. There's lots of wind noise in the Chevy, which is very annoying. Tundra has lots more power. Brighter headlights. I'm 100% satisfied with it.
with a 5.7 to the '01 Tundra? Hmmm....3 years difference in technology don't you think? BTW, I think Chevy phased out the truck you are talking about...
try comparing apples to apples. you'll find a '01 'rado much better appointed than either. and more powerful, and better gas mileage, and more towing/payload capacity, and a much larger and more comfortable back seat... and oh by the way...you'll find that people who make real full sized trucks don't have trouble heating the cab. they use a more powerful heater as opposed to whatever than can canibalize out of a camry. LOL!

Gas, what ive hauled, good, bad points of the truck.

2000 tundra "other than the need to start it twice when cold"
Awww thats the trick, start your truck twice when cold.........Damn, I thought starting my Chevy once, no matter what was sufficient.
Maybe thats where toyota gets their numbers, "you started it twice, now instead of 100 HP, you have 200 HP!
