Did you ever get a solution to this issue? I have the same thing happening. Not as harsh but after the appear to warm up I will get the clunking and lurching. It happens more on short trips with starting and stopping. Now I am noticing that it just comes and goes at will. No rhyme or reason. Any suggestions?
It is not necessary to have the BCM programmed to run the car. I didn't have it programmed until about 2 weeks after I installed it. I can't remember exectly, but there is too much that won't work(radio) until programmed.
It doesn't sound exactly like a BCM problem to me, more of a electrical thing that is causing low voltage. May be battery or connection issues. The BCM should have no direct influence on it starting.
hi im having the same problem with my aztek, engine light is on solid when stopped but when i go it flashes.. what was the solution to this? please email me at spinvest1@hotmail.com thank you
I have had a problem with the fuse that controls the interior and dash lights blow. I took it into the dealer for them to check and they found a loose ground at the battery that they fixed. It worked for about a month till it blew again. I keep asking if it coyld be the BCM and they tell me that the BCM will not cause this. They think it might be related to another code b0077 side impact sensor. They want $220 dollars to diagnose this code. They think it could be related. There are some other codes showing up like B1482 Battery Rundown Protection Circuit Low and B2627 Display Dimming pulse with modulation (PWM) output circuit low.B2462 GPS signal error. I don't want to waste $220 checking the impact sensor if that is not a problem. Any thoughts? I think I will disconnect the battery to erase all the old codes and drive it for a bit and see what codes come back. Any input would greatly be appreciated. Mike
I have a 2003 Aztek with 134,000 miles and the check engine soon light has come on. I was on the highway and when I slowed down I noticed that it was idling rough. I looked at the needle and noticed it was low, under the 1. It usually idles at 1 and is now at the thalfway mark between 0 and 1. Any ideas on what may cause this? LER
I have a 2002 aztek with 78000 miles. I've had a couple of problems with it but all in all it's been pritty good. I was reading about the bcm and all of the problems it can cause, but i'm not convinced this is the problem. My car starts and runs great, but I have a problem. When it is hot outside and I run the air (and the air runs great) I noticed that my temperature gauge starts to go up when it reaches 3/4 of the way the motor stops. I wait about 1/2 an hour and it starts right up.If I don't use the air the car is fine. Thanks you for any help with this issue.
I bought my 2001 Aztek a few months ago. A/C never worked and I just replaced the condensor this weekend. A/C is finally running cold! Problem is that I have it at the highest setting of "5" but it doesn't blow out a lot of air and the vehicle is still hot inside. It doesn't cool off the interior enough. At the lowest setting of "1", it barely blows any air. From what I've read about Azteks, the A/C should be blowing a lot of air at the highest setting. Is there something else I need to look into?
I noticed today that my Cruise Control would not work. The fuse is fine - although I find it hard to believe there is only a 10Amp fuse - but I see nothing else in the book. Before I head to the dealer thought I'd check on here for suggestions.

Thanks for responding Ray. Outside of 3500 mile oil changes nothing. We must have the only working aztek in Pa.LOL I was thinking of pulling that fuse #28 under the hood to reset the BCM,but see no reason why this should work. Thanks again
I would check coolant level both in overflow tank and radiator just to be sure. Also another thing I thought of, starting with cold engine open hood and start engine. Turn A/C on and re-circ button. Carefully look to see if both cooling fans turn on within a minute or so (they should) (you might need flashlight to see). If they don't turn on there is a problem in that arena somewhere. You can also turn A/C off and hit the fresh air button and within a minute both fans should shut off if things are working correctly.
I have a 2003 aztek and just the other day it started making an odd dinging noise when started. This is a very high-pitched ding that lasts for about 5-10 seconds when the car is started. We hooked a computer to it and it returned no problems. There are no warning lights lit up on my dash. Everything is running the same as it has been the whole time we have owned the vehicle. We have tried everything from turning headlights off, seat-belts, turning the wheel a different direction when started, all kinds of random things. We cannot find any information in the owners manual about what the problem may be either. If someone could please help me, it would be greatly appreciated. It is a very obnoxious sound.
I have a 2003 aztek and just the other day it started making this awful dinging noise when started (not the normal chime upon starting). This is a high-pitched ding which last 5-10 seconds. There are no warning lights lit on the dash. We have had it hooked to a computer and it returned no error messages. If anyone has any idea what this noise may be it would be greatly appreciated. This is a very obnoxious sound and if i can get rid of it without having to spend tons to find out what is wrong that would be wonderful! Thanks
Hope someone out there can help. I have a 2002 Pontiac Aztek, 97,000 miles that has started a ticking noise. Any ideas what it could be? My husband would describe it as a knock, but I say tick. Anyway, he said the oil levels are good, and the coolant seems to be ok. But, we were having problems losing coolant at one point. Anyway, I was hoping someone might have had this problem? It is a ten year old car, and I am thinking that whatever is wrong is probably a big ticket item. Any thoughts?
Hi guys Im new here and wanted to know if any can help me. I have a 2001 Aztek and now when I start it and put it into any gear it shakes. What can I look for or what can I do to fix this. I know nothing about these cars but know how to work on them for the most part. Thanks
I have a 2001 Aztek and my antilock brake disabled light is on and the back end seems to make a deep groaning noise and seems like the whole back end is moving front to back when ever i stop and go. I have replaced all wheel bearings and am on my second time around. The mechanic said i have a bolt that is wearing that connects an arm to the tire but i am not sure that is the only thing that could be causing the noise and movement. can anyone help me with this please?
2005 Aztek Rally here. . . .Have had the fuel gauge / odometer out for a few months, but yesterday driver's power window went down and won't come back up. I can hear motor running inside door. . . .Window off track? Anybody?
Wife said that earlier in the day, she rolled the window up and "it kept going after the window was already all the way up." She meant the window motor kept going, even though the window had completed its upward travel. (She was still pressing the window button.)
More than likely, the fuel gauge / odometer is due to a bad BCM computer P/N 15235418. As for the window you have two plastic clips on the window regulator that break one left and one right. The P/N is 15938039for left and 15938040 for the right. Let know if you need any further information. I have two 2001 models.
Does your fuel gage just not work or does the gauge jump from full to empty all the time? Mine jumps around and it has been diagnosed as the fuel level sensor and to replace that the tank has to be pulled and it will be like $400. I just use my odometer to track how far I can go. Unfortunately since yours is out that wont help you. Good Luck
Is yours AWD? If so a groan/moan at slow speeds quite often is an issue with versatrak fluid, either low on fluid or in need of changing. The ABS light may be a sensor but quite often is bad connection or other wiring issue within the system.
Having same cylinder head problem on 03 Aztek. Front and rear cylinder head bolts pulled out. Did you repair? Mechanic said replace heads -- I question - is this an engine problem therefore the "fix" is engine change. Need more knowledge than I have about this. Can you help? Jean
Sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it jumps all the way up past full, sometimes the odometer flashes for a few seconds-like when we went to get the oil changed the other day-there it was!
Is the BCM a self-repair, or is it a shop job? Because I'm really thinking about selling my Azteks now (we have 2) and I can't sell it if it doesn't have a working odometer! (Salvage title law)
I would check the elec. connector under the car on the drivers side. I think they call it C305. If it's a FWD car there are two connectors, it it"s an AWD car there are three connectors. You will see that one bundle of wires runs to the gas tank. Spray some elec. contact cleaner in those, reconnect and disconnect after spraying two or three times and see if that takes care of the gas gauge problem. Most likely it"s the sending unit in the gas tank as all three of my GM cars (2 Azteks) have this problem.
As for the BCM, You can change that but it has to go to the dealer to be flashed so it knows what options are on the car. Let me know if I can help.
this may help you I have a 2003 aztek the blower complete quit on us after doing some more research after fuses it led me to try a blower motor resistor replacement. Now it works brand new. Hope this helps. also its located under the pasenger front directly below the glove compartment and behind the actual blower costs me around 30 bucks.
I have a 2002, Aztec with about 74000 miles. Previously my A/C was making a bad noise when I ran it and when I turned it off it would stop and since then noise has stopped completely. Now it has a whole new issue the whole A/C has stopped blowing at all and it is mid summer. What could this be? And also is this going to cost me an arm and leg to get it repaired?
our 2001 Aztec problem began when the hatch wouldn't open. The Dealer suggested that we needed a new hatch motor. I disconnected the battery at the fuse box and reconnected it. The hatch worked all of a sudden. One night as we were driving home, the hatch, horn, blinkers, headlights, and interior and dash lights started flashing and beeping without any signs of stopping. So I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. Everything started working normal again. Next, the AC stopped working and the dealer wanted $200 to diagnose it. Guess what I tried...now the AC works too. Do I have to carry my 13mm wrench everywhere I go...you bet. Is there a real cure? probably but I bet it costs a heck of a lot. Like paying someone to find a marble in a gravel pit. Any suggestions?
symptoms sound like an issue with BCM (Body Control Module), Oh and it may be easier to remove fuse #28 from underhood fuse box for about 30 seconds to do same thing disconnecting battery does
hi ray80. Thanks for the fuse 28 thing...I'll try that next time. Is the BCM expensive and if it has issues is it repairable? Is it an easy job to replace it? Mark
I believe the BCM is in the $250 range from dealer (or something like that), others have found them cheaper elswhere though. It is located in console area below and in front of shifter I think. If you do end up replacing it it will have to go to dealer at some point to get it programmed. When I had issues with lights and various trouble messages blinking it was due to leak in sunroof that allowed water to go where it shouldn't (again BCM involvement) but once it dried out it was fine (and hasn't had any issues in the last 1 1/2 years or so)
Oops almost forgot, if you click on guides near top of messages forum and type BCM for search there is a good article on replacing it.
Your Battery is shorted out. I know it probaly doesn't make sense, but GM cars do some really weird stuff when your battery is junk. Our 2003 aztek did the same thing that you are explaining. The battery even seemed fine, it turned the car over and everything. Changed the battery and all the problems disappeared.
My mom's aztec will act up in damp or raining weather. It won't start, turn over, nothing! The key will pull out of the ignition in any position. When you turn the key over, the gauges are not functioning correctly. The message center will read security... it will tell us low brake level, the gas gauge will read empty. Sometimes the radio won't work. Sometimes the headlights won't go off. We used to be able to get it to start by pulling the fuses and reinserting them. One time she drove home after finally getting it to start without any gauges working. This last time though, nothing is working. It has been sitting in my driveway for a week because nothing we try can get it started. I did notice that when you turn the key, you hear clicking coming from the fuse box. Any one out there with any ideas?
I would guess its an issue with battery/ cable connection. How old is the battery and has anything been done recently that involved removing the cables?
i have read you guys post and they are real helpful... see my 2003 aztek is just now starting to do that stuff... right now it is just starting to where the key will not come out of the ignition... and sometime wont unlock the doors... it also sometime just shuts off just out of the blue sometime right after i start it and even sometimes when im going down the road... or im at the stop light and start to go... it will shut off...(scary)...
I own a 2001 aztec. I just change front rotors and brakes. the next day the anti brakes and track are acting up. I had no problems till I did the brakes. what could I have done to makes this happen. I hear there is a harness that can come loss which one would that be. I had a new pcm put in 2 months before I replace the brakes. is the harness the one under the dash panel.
Yes the lights are coming on also says (service track system) and will stay on till I turn car off. Could i have done this when I pushed the pistions back in on the calapiers.
I would make sure the cable that connects to the wheel is connected properly. If it's loose or something like that... it could cause the problems that you're describing. It connects to the sensor in the wheel that determines wheel speed. If that cable is completely disconnected (like on my car) then both lights come on and the service traction system message.

I have 2005 Aztek and I experienced identical problem as you describe. Any thoughts about what is causing it and how to fix it.
