Brewers have a nice stadium, but it's in the middle of a parking lot. Technically, if you are downtown, you can take a train that drops you off within a mile of the stadium.

There is a little strip of old bars about 2 miles away. We were going to a weekday day game and went there for a beer (or two) before the game. They ran a shuttle, but we already had a parking pass.

The Brewers fans are very friendly (because, Wisconsin!) and we had a great time. We had our Reds gear on, and the patrons at the bar wouldn't let me pay for a beer.

Oh? Why is that? I got a hotel 0.9 miles away, thinking we could walk (both night games, FYI).

And, yes, @stickguy , I know it’s hot. I’ve been to TX a couple of times for business. For some odd reason, my kid has talked about wanting to live there. A very small part of my thinking was he’d see for himself how miserable it can be.

Was going to do Phils at Yanks in late July but I hate NYC so much that driving to an airport, suffering through security, flying 3.5 hrs, and staying at a cheap hotel was more appealing.

Aren’t all stadiums? Technically, there are street around the perimeter of CBP, but parking lots are on the other side of those 4 streets.

Not necessarily. Petco Park, Progressive Field, PNC Park, etc. are examples of modern ballparks integrated into the neighborhood with actual bars/restaurants you can patronize and then walk a short distance to the ballpark. Others in Milwaukee, Kansas City, or even Dodger Stadium are surrounded by acres of parking lots.

I'll also echo the hospitality of Milwaukee fans, they were very welcoming and made it a very nice visit.

The Pittsburgh stadium is located right near the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, and it sits with streets all around it. To be honest, I don't recall seeing any significant parking areas nearby, but I'm sure they must be... just not any large surface lots.

When we went to the Heinz museum on the other side of the river, we parked beneath the freeway.
It was set up as a paid parking area... and they were packing folks three cars deep!

My curiosity sent me to look at an overhead view on Google Maps... It looks like maybe they share some parking resources with the Steelers stadium down the street. Plus, the hotel where my family stayed is on the next street over, and it has a surprisingly large parking lot as well.

Interestingly, though, I also saw that the public tennis courts on Wells Island nearby converted three of its five tennis courts into ten pickleball courts. That is a good use of space! I see the same all over the place; tennis is definitely waning in popularity. I'm trying to get the athletic center at my university to stop allowing tennis reservations. There's nothing more frustrating than to have 20+ people queuing up to play pickleball, and then have to hand the space over to two people hogging up the same area. From a space use standpoint, tennis is just too wasteful to allow in high-demand spaces when the next-lowest-density sport on the same space is ten.

Coors field is supposed to be a great experience, right in downtown with lots to do.

I mostly went to Shea/Citi Field, and CBP. Both on the fringe of the city, and surrounded immediately by highways and parking lots with some residential just past that but no reason to venture into it!

When they built the new stadiums the land between them was mainly surface lots, but in the past 20+ years new office multi-use office/retail buildings, a concert venue, riverwalk, and parking garages have sprung up. A lot of people park downtown and walk across the Clemente Bridge or take the light rail in, which has a station near both stadiums.

I’m no longer a baseball fan, the Pirates beat that out of me 20 years ago. However, I have to admit PNC Park is a beautiful baseball park. Some say it’s the best. You should go there some day and decide for yourself.

Will second your thoughts on Coors Field. Been to a bunch of games there and think the Rockies have only won once.

Great neighborhood bars close by.

To @roadburner's point about people complaining about dumb stuff, I always read the most recent reviews of hotels where I plan to stay. If people are critical of the noise level or cleanliness, I take notice, but if they're complaining about the towels being too scratchy or the breakfast not having pancakes, I ignore it.

I am, apparently, the polar opposite of most of you. I simply do not like to see live sporting events. WAY. TOO. BORING.

I have only been to one live professional sports event in my life, and that was a Portland Trailblazers game at the Rose Garden. This was the year they went to the Finals in, I think, 1992, and I was very excited. However, reality beat that out of me. From my seat, the court was about the size of a pair of dinner plates, the people were tiny.... I ended up watching the vast majority of the game on the jumbotron (which was a little below eye level from my seat) so I could tell what was going on. I figure it is way cheaper and more convenient, comfortable, and QUIET just to do the same thing in my living room.

Since then, I have had no desire to go see a game live.

I read a few days ago, there was a 3.6 earthquake recorded south of Dillwyn, VA, towards Farmville. Our farm was in Curdsville ( don’t laugh, dairy farming in the past) that was between Dillwyn and Farmville. Such excitement! Small world.

No sidewalks, and not well lit. A lot of dirt paths, and areas where you have to step out into the street to get by a fenced off section. It's fine in the day time. We walked to the game, but wouldn't risk it going back in the dark. And, we'll generally walk anywhere.

The next reply was priceless: "So basically what you are really saying is that your reading skill should be rated at two stars."

At the risk of looking dumb what is MPGe? I suppose I would look that up if I was considering buying a $50k vehicle.

A couple of our friends did a road trip a few years back to see a game in every stadium, especially the ones that were going to be torn down.

Speaking of ballparks, I’ll never forget my first visit to Fenway in ‘82. You walk up the ramp under the stands to get to the seating area and suddenly see this explosion of green turf. Stunning.

My doors were locked. They asked me the code to my garage door but I couldn't communicate that to them. Not sure why. They ended up busting in the front door. I "Squeak-yelled" my location (upstairs and to the rear of the house). They tried to get me on a gurney but was dead weight as I still couldn't move. Another EMT person helped put me on a gurney, asked me questions (which I could not answer). One gave me some sort of IV (they told me what it was, but they could have well just said it was peanut butter as I don't recall). Loaded me up, and while they were doing so, I remember seeing all the lights from the firetruck and ambulance lighting up my cul-de-sac. Remember neighbors kind of hovering around.

I do remember the bumpy ride to the hospital.

Got there, again more questions that I did not have the capacity to answer. Drs (nurses) swarmed, machines were hooked up to me. Lots of whirs, buzzes and beeps ensued. I recall getting a shot in my belly (later found out it was a drug to dissolve blood clots) At some point, my son showed up. He later told me he freaked that he got a call from the hospital as he's listed as my emergency contact (something I listed a long time ago and forgot about).

Finally got my speech back. Still was wobbly all day Friday and could not stand. Saturday, they got me sitting up in a chair. Yesterday I started walking and was discharged last night.

Diagnosis? Combination of "mini stroke" and "vestibular vertigo" combined. As best I can tell, I'm walking OK, at least not wobbly. Little direction corrections I notice I have to make. Headaches are 1/10th of what they were but still there. Speech is getting better and better, to the point my son says he can't tell a difference (although internally I can tell I'm putting a huge effort in to say certain words). I think my son maybe trying to minimize my concern. Obviously my fingers work as I'm. typing this.

They (Drs) say with therapy and meds I should be "OK". Therapy starts today in home. They don't want me to drive until the therapists give me their battery of tests and clear me.

The majority of what transpired Thursday/Friday I don't remember. They said that's not unusual. Hell, I could have bought a new car and don't remember. I should probably look in the garage to make sure.

Scared the living s#!t out of me but I'm still here to tell the tale. Feeling quite fortunate as a matter of fact.

Wow glad you are recovering but be careful and make sure you have someone you can mske periodical check ins incase something happens again.

I am like you I don't like live sporting events because I really can't handle crowds to well.

I like live football the best.
Plenty of time to look at the formations to try to figure out with the play is going to be.

@xwesx - similar views on sportsball. I've been to an Anaheim Angels game (high school FBLA trip), a Lexington Legends game (law school outing), and a MotoGP race (meh, plus I hated Austin as a city). Paying $1,500 for a nosebleed seat to see Taylor Swift was a much better investment.

My son has been to a lot of ballparks. I've never been a big baseball fan. I have been to quite a few college basketball venues and a coupe of soccer fields (to watch EPL exhibition games).
As far as racing goes, I've seen F1 at Indy, the Indy 500 (several times), and NASCAR at Kentucky Speedway and Charlotte. My son and I are going to North Wilkesboro in about a week and we'll have all-access passes for the truck race and possibly the Cup race. I've driven on more Cup tracks than I've watched.

Minor league: Lakewood Blueclaws and Trenton Thunder. No idea if those stadiums even have names. I’m sure they do, but heck if I know them.

Football: Giants stadium
Basketball: MSG and Wells Fargo

Yeah, being in large crowds is very difficult for me. I have to summon this sort of zen-like focus on being calm and patient. If I let it catch me unawares, things can go wrong in a hurry. I'm sure that has something to do with my lack of desire to give the experience another go.

The groups I grew up with are becoming exceedingly geriatric. Sometimes, they are still killing it, and other times they just mail it in.

Ya know, it’s odd, but it is the one thing that doesn’t bother me. Base on what I’ve learned from raising my oldest, I am almost certainly on the spectrum. I am a very high reactive and can’t take parties or even boisterous people. Too much sensory input cause me pain and high stress. But ballgames don’t. I have NO idea why. Possibly because I have something of great interest to focus on. That’s the only thing I can think of.

I've seen the Rolling Stones, Eagles, ZZ Top, Rush, Bob Seger, to name a few legacy bands. All of the shows were excellent and the performances belied their age. Then there was Genesis with poor Phil Collins sitting in a chair doing his thing and looking/sounding every bit his age. We're going to to Billy Joel and Rod Stewart in July at the same venue and that will be the 3rd time I've seen Billy Joel since 2016. All the previous shows he absolutely killed it.

Great photo that explains how pickleball can accommodate more players in less space, however, tennis is still a superior game and it looks like that park has developed a good mix, 2 tennis courts to 10 pickleball courts. G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton FL has 20 outdoor pickleball courts, 14 covered with a large roof, and 6 open-air, and 16 tennis courts.
