My lucky day! The company that installed the windows 18 years ago said the windows are covered by their warranty, so they will replace all 30 windows, including tax and labor for $3100! I think they have a 20 year warranty, it is a good thing they went after 18 years and not 21 years
Explain to me how a warranted item will still cost you $3100?
The item is warranted.....the $3100 is for labor and taxes, on the labor (which we now have to pay for - 13%)
Giving estimates/bids for free is the norm in the US... they stand to profit a lot if you accept.
That's the way it should be, I never heard of charging to get a quote.....although if you use them they apply it to the cost.....but what if you choose a company with a lower quote? I guess some repairs are done that way though. It seems to me that a sales rep is part of the cost of doing business...no guarantees.
How regassing and resealing works The process involves refilling the IGU with insulating gas, typically argon or krypton, and repairing or replacing the seals. This may seem like a quick fix for fogged-up windows or reduced insulation, but it’s not a permanent solution.
Short-term savings One clear advantage of regassing and resealing is cost. It’s usually cheaper than replacing the entire IGU, and for homeowners on a budget, it can seem like a reasonable option. Additionally, it may have environmental appeal, as it avoids the waste associated with discarding the whole unit.
The reality of durability However, the longevity of regassed and resealed IGUs is limited. While new IGUs are built in controlled factory environments, regassing and resealing is done in the field, where it’s impossible to replicate the original sealing conditions. As a result, most resealed IGUs only last 3 to 5 years before the seals fail again. In contrast, a new factory-sealed IGU can last 15 to 20 years or more. ****It sounds like a good fix if you are going to sell your home in 3 to 5 years........how many buyers ask when your windows were replaced.
So I almost got charged with assault yesterday... I was going to a doctor's appointment (don't get your hopes up moderators, it's nothing-life threatening) and was in the center turn lane to cross opposing traffic to enter the medical center. When I turn in I notice a rusty F-150 stopped just past the entrance (to my left). As I pull in to the entrance I notice that the idiot F-150 driver has her backup lights on because she missed the entrance. The dimwit is heading straight for me- even though I blew the horn. I floor it and she just misses me. My wife later watched the driver get out of the truck and said she acted spaced-out. I was driving the Jeep- which is why I said I almost was charged with assault. If I had been driving the C43 or Club Sport I would have been charged with murder.

Have you ever bought an extended warranty on a car?
I have never bought an extended warranty for a car or for anything else. I didn't pay for a warranty for the windows, the builder bought the windows 18 years ago. There is something called a limited warranty......such as tires, that could be a pro-rated warranty. I am just happy the company admitted the windows are covered and they are covered until Oct 2030, it seems fair if I have to pay for the labor. We sent photos of all the windows that needed replacing...they have moisture in them, we missed two with a small amount but they spotted them....that seems pretty honest.
All references I’ve seen state that this is not the case.
Moisture in windows, condensation in windows, or foggy windows, is a result of broken window seals and exceeding the saturation point of the absorbent material placed inside the thermal window by the manufacturer. Over time, moisture from inside the home slowly enters and builds up between the window panes of house windows to the point where condensation appears inside the window. This problem will only worsen over time with more moisture entering the home window creating poorer visibility, eventually damaging the house windows beyond repair, including the window sills.

Maybe you should get the company to fill the replacement units with krypton gas. That apparently has sound deadening properties that argon lacks.

What phone holders for keeping the phone in front of the driver have people here used? I don't want something that sticks to the dash board and leaves a mark, e.g.. I see some that hang from the mirror and some that stick to the windshield. For my Malibu for driving in mountainous areas south of the Smokeys later this summer.

This is why I love CarPlay in the VW. It's a big touch screen right in the upper center of the dash
car play is great. I would hate having to go back to just the phone.

When I was working in District Court if a defendant was found guilty of or pled to no insurance I always ordered the defendant to pay restitution if an accident was involved. The nice thing about that for the victim(s) was that the deadbeat couldn't have court-ordered restitution discharged in a bankruptcy.

This just happened a few miles from me this morning, the highway was closed from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.:
A Tesla electric vehicle fire that started just after 9 a.m., Saturday, led to the Hwy. 403 closure of all westbound traffic for several hours between Hwy. 6 and Main Street West.
As of 1:30 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told the Spectator debris was still smouldering on the roadway, but the vehicle was on a tow truck. He said police hoped to have the lane open soon.
No injuries have been reported.
Schmidt said the fire was prolonged because the vehicle “kept reigniting” and this is a hazard with E-vehicles and E-bikes as well.
After looking at nearly 100 Carfax reports, in searching for a used vehicle, roughly 95% did not meet recommended maintenance requirements...at least at businesses that report to Carfax. Many were leased, many were rentals, many were people who probably just didn't give a dang. And these were mostly for sale at dealerships.
But the owner of this vehicle, I just came across, should get an Edmunds award. This is probably the best maintained vehicle, by a single owner, over a period of 17 years, that I've ever seen. 52 service records. Oil changes every 2k, 3k, and 4k miles...plus all other maintenance items.

You can’t always rely on CarFax for accurate maintenance records. Many indie garages don’t report and many rental companies only use outside shops when they have overflow. Our company cars that I bring in for oil changes generally have 6k intervals or whenever the oil change reminder comes on.

Yes, but I did write, "at least at businesses that report to Carfax."
If I'm buying someone else car, I prefer to have proof of maintenance. Rentals are always out. Leases, maybe with written records. People generally take better care of cars they own.
that is why people liked buying my cars in the old days I was willing to deal with it. Clean, one owner cars with a file of every receipt proving maintenance.

The dealer showed me the Carfax Report when i bought the "RED" rocket, the 2014 C250. The only problem was the report looked OK, but it said the car was black......so how good are those reports.

Oh I agree, written records are a big plus when buying a used car but in all my used car buying I never once had a seller (private or dealer) have any service records. I have always given any buyer of my cars a complete package of service receipts but that the exception rather than the rule.

Is this real or is it memorex? Oh, wrong generation: Is it real or is it AI?
Just me, but it doesn't look like she is really holding the hose the right way. How would the gas go up the side of the car, over the trunk, and then come down in the middle under the car? There isn't a place to fill the car up on that side. It's a poor PhotoShop IMHO:
Thursday night felt inordinately tired early in the evening. Unusual for me but I went to bed bout 9:30 p.m. Developed a blinding headache. Started feeling dizzy. Shortly thereafter, I realized I couldn't move and then became very nauseous upchucking all over the bed. Freaked, because I couldn't even say " Siri" to tell my iPhone on the night table to call 911.
I remember thinking, I have a brain aneurism. This is it. This is how my lights are turned out. I don't know the amount of time that transpired, but I remember time not being something I was aware of. Finally, I was able to yell "Siri dial 911". The speaker on the phone came on and I heard a dispatcher. Don't know how I communicated, but I was able to tell them I needed help because I couldn't move. They told me my address, which I confirmed with a weak "uh huh". ...fire truck, ambulance, the whole shebang with lights and sirens penetrated the house.
My doors were locked. They asked me the code to my garage door but I couldn't communicate that to them. Not sure why. They ended up busting in the front door. I "Squeak-yelled" my location (upstairs and to the rear of the house). They tried to get me on a gurney but was dead weight as I still couldn't move. Another EMT person helped put me on a gurney, asked me questions (which I could not answer). One gave me some sort of IV (they told me what it was, but they could have well just said it was peanut butter as I don't recall). Loaded me up, and while they were doing so, I remember seeing all the lights from the firetruck and ambulance lighting up my cul-de-sac. Remember neighbors kind of hovering around.
I do remember the bumpy ride to the hospital.
Got there, again more questions that I did not have the capacity to answer. Drs (nurses) swarmed, machines were hooked up to me. Lots of whirs, buzzes and beeps ensued. I recall getting a shot in my belly (later found out it was a drug to dissolve blood clots) At some point, my son showed up. He later told me he freaked that he got a call from the hospital as he's listed as my emergency contact (something I listed a long time ago and forgot about).
Finally got my speech back. Still was wobbly all day Friday and could not stand. Saturday, they got me sitting up in a chair. Yesterday I started walking and was discharged last night.
Diagnosis? Combination of "mini stroke" and "vestibular vertigo" combined. As best I can tell, I'm walking OK, at least not wobbly. Little direction corrections I notice I have to make. Headaches are 1/10th of what they were but still there. Speech is getting better and better, to the point my son says he can't tell a difference (although internally I can tell I'm putting a huge effort in to say certain words). I think my son maybe trying to minimize my concern. Obviously my fingers work as I'm. typing this.
They (Drs) say with therapy and meds I should be "OK". Therapy starts today in home. They don't want me to drive until the therapists give me their battery of tests and clear me.
The majority of what transpired Thursday/Friday I don't remember. They said that's not unusual. Hell, I could have bought a new car and don't remember. I should probably look in the garage to make sure.
Scared the living s#!t out of me but I'm still here to tell the tale. Feeling quite fortunate as a matter of fact.

Very scary. Glad you were able to summon help. Definitely a downside to living alone though. Hopefully the treatments do the job.
My dad had a stroke a few years ago that scared us all, but after a few days in the hospital and meds he bounced back and no lingering effects.
I did not realize your iPhone could tell 911 an address. I thought that was something that didn’t happen but maybe that was the old days.
The wireless carriers have to transmit enhanced location info to 911. Also if you’re connected to WiFi and WiFi calling on they can find you that way as well. When you turn WiFi calling on you have to input an address.

Yes, but I did write, "at least at businesses that report to Carfax."
If I'm buying someone else car, I prefer to have proof of maintenance. Rentals are always out. Leases, maybe with written records. People generally take better care of cars they own.

Oh I agree, written records are a big plus when buying a used car but in all my used car buying I never once had a seller (private or dealer) have any service records. I have always given any buyer of my cars a complete package of service receipts but that the exception rather than the rule.

Glad everything has worked out for you, so far. And yes, that's quite the scary tale.

Details are sketchy over the course of that time. Some I remember, some I remember bits and pieces, some I don't remember at all (and was relayed back to me later).
Good grief! I never heard a story like that. Glad you are around to share.
