So I hooked up the Carver to the ADC speakers and I immediately noticed that neither tweeter was working. I got out my digital multimeter and verified that the tweeters were receiving a signal, but when I disconnected a speaker and put the test leads on the speaker's connections it showed an open circuit. That said, it's strange that both tweeters failed, but I suppose it is possible (I replaced both over 20 years ago). I'm going to do a bit more detective work but it looks like I'll be in the tweeter market.

Hmmmmmm...that would be quite the coincidence. Not sure what those tweeters are. I would think some sound would be coming out, even if it's not very pleasing. Leads are good? Crossover? Parts Express would be my first call.

I'm like you. I think I can fix ANYTHING related to my media set ups. That said, my desire often exceeds my capabilities and my stubbornness exceeds everything. Plus, I'll spend 3x to fix something rather than buy something that works.

Sounds painful. Was it a 8' ladder? You didn't go past the 3rd to last rung did you?

When I broke my arms years ago I had to joke "you should see the other guy." Unfortunately, not as interesting when you hurt yourself.

It was a 6’ stepladder. I figure because I’m 6’5” and was eye level with the door opener panel, my chest was approx 10’ off the ground. Not that far but when you fall flat onto a ladder lying sideways on concrete, something’s gotta give.

It is hard to recall exact details. I do remember looking down and seeing the ladder on the floor. One of those slow motion things I guess. And I remember thinking “don’t wanna land on that.” I believe I tried to move out of the way, but like Wile E Coyote, I just spun my wheels in the air and moved my feet out from under me thinking the rest of me would follow. Gravity had other ideas.

As the docs and nurses were all saying, I suppose I should consider myself lucky that I didn’t hit my head or spine.

Well, I’m glad to see the spam attack has been successfully defended against. I wonder was it orchestrated by a disgruntled poster angry over the dues increase? 🤪

    . . . . and is supposed to last for 6 weeks.

I'll be interested in hearing how that actually turns out.

Yeah. The schedule is usually the first casualty in any reno project. I consider myself lucky that my "3-month" kitchen project only took an extra 6 weeks. I'm still looking for a few things that they moved.

Back about 7-8 years ago I had the old 1960s/70s DIY basement rec room torn out. Some of it was left unfinished for storage and tools, while the remainder got redone properly with a bedroom, bath/laundry and a small sitting area. The only problem now is that my creaky knees make it challenging going to/from there.

our only big reno was back in NJ in 2011, and I don't recall them getting behind at all. Actually went pretty quickly once the real work started. And that was pretty extensive (kitchen was a full gut and remodel, with moving some plumbing, and the master bath was the same complete rework. Powder room plumbing did not move at least). We prior to that added a laundry room upstairs (closet conversion) and later redid the hall bath upstairs (same guy did all of them) and those both zipped right along. Maybe we just got lucky on who we hired! Actually think we did. He had done a few houses in the neighborhood with good references (and we saw some of his work) and he was surprisingly inexpensive, being a small operation with good subs.

at least with a new build (think of it as one giant reno!) you get everything over with at one shot (at least inside) though we considered finishing the basement, but decided to pass on spending lots of $ to add more SF when we already have double what we need. Maybe when the grandkids are more numerous and older to give them a place to go. But we would likely never use it for more than exercising.

I think if you use a contractor with a lot of jobs on the go and good relationships with subs they are much more likely to stick to a schedule. In my kitchen job it was just 2 guys who did most everything themselves except for a couple of things. The tradeoff for me was that one of them was a cabinetmaker so I got custom cabinets that are well-made for probably less than I would have paid otherwise.

The flip side was illustrated to me over the last month. My neighbor and buddy up the street seemed to come into some money after his mom passed away a while ago. This is a guy who has owned his house for over 30 years and spent next to nothing on it because I presume he didn't have a lot of it. But over the last year he got a new roof, added a bathroom, replaced all the doors and windows, and most recently had the exterior re-sided. Our houses are the same size, and earlier this year I had new siding put on both the house and the garage which took about 5 days total. He hired 2 guys he apparently knew to do the siding and bought it through a another guy he knew, getting it at wholesale. It is a different kind of siding, made of composite, and goes on a bit differently, which these guys really seemed to struggle with. Not being vinyl it can't be cut with shears but requires a cutoff saw. It looks good on the house though, seeming to go on almost flat in the vertical plane without much of an angle to each course, if any. They 2 guys pulled out of there today after working on it for 5 weeks, yikes! I hope he wasn't paying them by the hour.

We have a full construction schedule in place. Kickoff meeting on Monday morning. Wife and daughter picked out tile and carpet already, so that’s done.

Each day is mapped out with what’s supposed to happen. We shall see.

Haven't had a discussion about car wax in a while.
    Saw the article.
Personally, I use Meguiar's cleaner wax and follow it up with Adam's Buttery wax.

2 waxes? Just doing one coat wipes me out for 2 days now. I like Meguairs also. Cleaner wax (I think it's tech wax?) I like it because you can do the entire car before wiping it off, and I think it does a real nice job and also seems to last well.

My '95 Abyss Blue Acura TL was the beginning of my Zaino obsession. No such thing as too many coats. I think that was also a contributing factor to the end of my marriage...

Now I use NuFinish; first the "ceramic" then the classic synthetic. Looks good, lasts.

What’s the best product for cleaning aluminum wheels?
I can't offer any direct experience with aluminum wheels (which are usually clear-coated) but yesterday I was rooting through my collection of old golf clubs looking possibly to sell some when I found an old Bullseye putter in a golf bag in the basement. I bought it in the '90s out of a used club barrel in the pro shop where I was a member at the time for very little money, probably $10 or maybe less. The pro told me that it had belonged to the former club champion, a great sales line if nothing else.

Bullseye putters were around forever and many tour pros in the '60s and '70s still used them, but they are now largely unseen. They are made of brass and this one was badly tarnished after being down there for probably 25 years. I found a tube of Autosol metal polish and gave it a go. A little elbow grease with it and a rag and it is now extremely shiny, to the point where you probably wouldn't want to use it on a sunny day because of the glare. I doubt it would be in much demand at this point in time but it is a nice souvenir.

Odd thing about it - I used it for most of maybe one season and never made many putts with it, except for one round. That day I went to a seaside course in Lunenburg by myself and got paired with a lady who was also a walk-on. I putted lights-out with it that day. It was ridiculous, making 20-footers like nobody's business. Never happened before and never again as I was always a lousy putter. What a strange game.

    Never had this happen before.
Was putting a bit of air in the tires of the wife's Corsair.
Put some air in the last tire, one which had been previously patched, and when I took off the air pump nozzle, air just started coming out of the valve.
I got it to stop by putting the cap back on.
Hooked up the pump again and ran it for a while to get some extra air in the tire and put the cap back on.
Can't hear any air leaking out but no driving it for now.

My floor jack just showed up yesterday so I think I have it's first job.
Jack up the car a bit and let the air run out of the tire. It won't go all the way flat, though.
Spray some WD40 into the valve and add air. Repeat as necessary.

Might want to have your tire guy check the valve stem, they can sometimes come loose. The one on the spare tire in my Tahoe was either missing or shot. Aired it up and the air instantly came out! Discount Tire fixed it in about two minutes, no charge.

I went three years with my 2022 Ram with no bed liner... I kept a few old blankets back there and somehow it only had one major scratch that wouldn't buff out. I at least want to get a mat and tailgate cover for this truck but since it has the power tailgate my options are limited.

I have a very old bottle of Zaino in my garage. Probably needs to be replaced due to age. Should probably do that whenever I get around to putting sealant on the Maverick.

I'm using a wicked old bottle of Zaino car wash (sole survivor from a treasure trove of their products), it doesn't retain its "soapiness" as much as I recall. Also, not as strong/delightful "bubble-gum" scent. But it still seems to work, I'll use it up and figure out which wash to buy next.

@laurasdada - I liked their soap, but the caps would always crack. Once it was exposed to air, it lost its effectiveness. I just use Dawn now. It will remove wax, but it doesn't seem to hurt modern sealants like Zaino.

I saw more Porsche 911s in an hour today than I have seen all month. This was in the hamlet of Latham NY. I wonder if New Country Porsche building a new store there has something to do with it.

If they are leaving Stickguy’s neighborhood maybe he can get a good deal so they can save transporting every car to the new place.

yeah, that 5 mile drive down route 9 is going to be too much for them.

I had no idea they were building a new place an moving. I did think where they were was a very strange location for a Porsche dealer (odd even for the Toyota store).

That used to be a Pontiac store.

That $10k in lease cash is impressive, but it is expiring very soon on Sept 2nd. Way back in 2018 I got $6250 in lease incentive on my Acura TLX, and I didn't think I'd ever see a lease incentive that was higher, but there it is.

Next door to the new Ford dealership on Rt. 7. What an opportunity for you to take the Maverick in for an oil change and then wander off to shop Porsches.

That’s where I go. Funny about them. They built that new massive building for more room. And found out when it was too late the big empty lot behind them they own that was supposed to be for parking inventory is some kind of wetlands and they can’t pave it. So they have way too little space and have to park stock vehicles someplace else.

Probably includes the $7,500 EV credit that is about to go away
