Update on the SiriusXM saga. Success.

@kyfdx posted that he had called for help when a free trial like mine didn't work.

I hadn't gotten to that point, but after calling them, today I got a survey by email.
    I filled them in completely.

Later today I got a phone call I couldn't answer. They sent an email with a reference
number and special number to call back.
I talked to a person, easy-to-understand with no dialect, who set everything up
and said there were some manual settings that had to be changed so it would
set up. I wondered if my account had been "marked" after my not-so-friendly
    last interactions with them.
No credit card. An old cancelled card was deleted and account was set
to e-billing, per her suggestion, since the solicitation said no credit card required.
Their attitude seems to have changed.
I did mention the bait and switch from the trial offer and then the person
on the earlier call started making offers where I paid.

I have SXM now to decide if I want to bite on a later billing or stay with CD and USB.

When I didn't renew mine, I thought I would miss it because I listened to it all the time. I didn't and don't.

Our taxes are divided between school and property taxes. Just paid my school that of about $3200 and expect the property tax to be about $2000

Went to CarMax (in person) and Carvana for an on line quote. They both came in $30K (I think Carvana was actually $29,800). So, I'm close on my private seller asking price....maybe a tad high, but right there at $33k-$34k.

Mr PITA tire kicker bugged the s#!t out of me yesterday. He finally agreed to $33.2K. He wanted to write a personal check. I told him I would accept it if we'd drive to his bank and cash it.

He said it was an out of state bank. Told him if it was within the 275 loop (which goes around Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky), I'd follow him to the bank if he'd give me a ride home. He didn't like that idea.

At this point he could tell I was getting irritated. He acted like this was a normal way to do business.

I finally told him it was a cash deal at that price.

He said he wouldn't be able to get cash until Monday. I told him to leave a $1,000 cash deposit and I'd hold it until Monday. We could go to my bank and get him a notarized receipt for the deposit. He said he had the money but didn't want to do that.

Tired, I finally just thanked him for his interest but I decided not to sell it.

Ruined what was a beautiful day in the Ohio Valley putzing around with this guy.

I always wondered how to handle the payoff on a private sale like that. Personal check seemed very risky. Even a bank check could be forged. A big bag of cash seemed like an invitation for the buyer’s friends to pay a visit after dark.

I decided that if I ever sold a car for more than a few thousand it would be in the buyer’s bank with a bank check that I saw the teller produce.

That flakey buyer might have been a scammer. Wears you down to the point where you take a private check and then he and the car vanish.😫

I did find it weird when I moved up to old farmer land that I now get 2 tax bills. School taxes (the bigger one) is due in September, and the county/town portion gets billed in the fall to pay in January. I guess it spaces it out a little so it does not seem to be as big a hit!

also a lot different when you aren't paying your taxes through mortgage escrow. Having to cut one huge check each year really points out how high they are!

I will say that based on my experience, a mild (aka non-plug in) hybrid is a fantastic drivetrain for normal use. No plugging in, for the people that can't handle that.

Me personally, wouldn’t have the ability to e-transfer anything. Part of the limitations of my low tech lifestyle. Can banks do that for you? It would make it easier if a buyer could just electronically put money in my account but then I’d be paranoid giving out my banking information.

Forgot to close the loop on the screwed up service appointment story on the Caddy from last week. The rescheduled appointment was this past Wednesday. When I walked in the service writer greeted me by name and knew why I was there. He noted from his computer that the every-three-years govt vehicle safety inspection was due and would I like that done while I was there? Sure thing. They paged me after an enjoyable 90 minutes sitting in the part of their showroom they jokingly call a customer lounge where I ran into a coworker I hadn’t seen in years who in turn got a veteran car salesman he deals with (complete with fedora even indoors) to join us for some candid conversation about GM offerings and the whole gas/hybrid/electric dilemma. His take was that hybrids are what customers want the most and was lamenting how GM no longer has any to offer.

When I went back to the service desk he handed me my key, handed me the paperwork, said the bill was taken care of, and that my car was outside the door waiting for me. Two thumbs up!

BTW, @driver100 , I sent a thank you to the lady who made it happen, but sadly, no dinner date. My perfect record of ineptitude remains intact. :)

I was hoping for a good romantic ending to that story.

A little ironic, my friend's wife bought a Lyriq and there aren't many charging stations around, and any that are around, have slow chargers, it takes 4 hours to get 60 miles. They won't be able to use the Lyriq to go from Toronto to Arizona, it would take a month to get there. And what if he can't find a station or if he gets there and the equipment is broken...which he says happens a lot.
He said his wife wanted it and she gets what she wants, but if he was to do it over again he'd talk her into a hybrid....it seems that is the way to go!

Took the Blazer EV on a 200+ mi.trip to San Diego to see folks and attend a memorial service for a relative. What a great road trip car this is! Very quick and a gem on the highway. Learned one fun fact — traffic jams are an opportunity for an EV! When we hit the usual 405 parking lot pretending to be a freeway, the Blazer actually recharged during that portion, so I ended up with more than 90 miles charge remaining when we reached our destination. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons! The google maps route planner was very accurate in estimating range left.
I can see why you decided to sell the Accord after spending some time with your EV, @graphicguy . These are just amazing vehicles.
We were beat after all that time in traffic, but consoled ourselves with G and Ts at the Palomar Airport bar and restaurant. Now we are at the hotel, charging the Blazer at one of the hotel charging stations.
Icing on the cake — we can actually watch the Dodgers at our hotel! Dodgers fans have been blacked out of all TV games for years now by some weird argument between the cable folks and Dodger ownership. GAME 5 — GO BLUE!

The 2024 Petit Le Mans is tomorrow. It's one of my favorite IMSA events- especially after instructing at Road Atlanta a couple of times. BMW and Mercedes-AMG look to be very competitive in GTP, GTD Pro, and GTD. If they can't win I'll be happy to see Porsche on the podium.
Next year my son and I hope to drive Road Atlanta again at an AMG event.

You could easily go from Toronto to Arizona. It’s not that hard. Lots of fast chargers along the way and now you can use Tesla too. Slow chargers are for overnight charging. We are on a trip right now and doing that from our hotel.
Get the right apps that will tell you the best and closest charging stations, and they will also tell you if any weren’t working. I doubt that many are broken, it maybe your friend has to learn how to use them. I certainly did.
    It really isn’t that hard.

When I sold my Cutlass to a buyer in Germany via a broker in Florida, they paid for it with an e-transfer. I had no idea how to do it in those circumstances so I contacted my bank and they sent me all the particulars. I sent the broker that info and got notified by my bank the next day that the money was in my account. The car stayed here for a few weeks while they arranged shipping so the money was safe in my account all that time.

Day 2 trip. Charged overnight at the hotel to 80%. Cost $16. Very easy. I notice several EVs here at the hotel, including a Ford F 150 Lightning. We may see if later today we can find a fast charger around here so we can charge to the full 100%.

I’m afraid even if we did make a deal, is he going to bug me to death about some perceived issue!

Think I’ll just cool any thought of selling the Accord for the time being. It’s not hurting anything sitting in the garage and driving it on weekends!

Unboxed my latest motorized purchase. Picked up an Ego blower. One of the lower level models (615 cfm) but plenty for our needs. Works pretty good. Much easier than a broom to clean the garage and did a good job on the front porch, driveway and back patio. We get a lot of crap off the trees so going to get plenty of use.

Next weekend I unbox the Skil chain saw and see if I can cut off one of my limbs (wait, I meant section up branches so I can take them to the transfer station).

Made 2 more trips over today with a load of branches and yard debris and 2 more tires the first time, then went back with a truck tire and more branches. The blower will also do a great job clearing the bed of all the dirt. very glad to have a truck with the amount of dirty hauling needed. Not sure what I would have done without it. Probably paid an absurd amount of
Money to someone to come take it all.

OK, that’s it. No million for you!😤

I took the convertible out on what will probably be the last drive this year. I won’t put it away until I’m sure there will be no more warm days but the odds are against it. Hard to believe I’ve had it 6 years now.

Glorious day here, went topless too. Which I'll continue to do until temps consistently stay below ~55 (depending upon sunshine). I will drive it in the winter, keep engine/brakes/tires happy. As I did last winter, which was basically sans snow.

Washed the M240 and applied a coat of ceramic spray in a bottle (from the good folks at Nu Finish). I'll probably put a coat of the good ol' Nu Finish on top of that tomorrow.

I do miss Zaino, perhaps I should dip my toes again in those expensive waters!

I’ve never used any Zaino products. So I know nothing about them but I’ve only heard good things about them. I’ve been satisfied with the Collinite 845 that I’ve used for more than 10 years now.

As I understand it, you can only get Zaino online so I don’t know how it’s packaged. What I’ve noticed at the auto parts stores with wax products, the fancier the package the faster the wax leaves the shelf. Collinite is in a very plain/dull beige bottle so it’s always on the shelf when I go to get it. So far, I’ve been more than happy with the results. But, everyone seems to have their favorite and I’ve found mine.

WOW…are they level 1 chargers? Even 220-240 chargers are faster than that!

He went to a charging station, there is only one company in the area that has chargers for Lyriqs. He plugs it in and it takes 4 hours to get 60 miles (100 kms). Apparently this company, the only one around, only has the slow chargers at this time.

I’ve been using Griots ceramic wax on the Club Sport- along with their matching car wash and detail spray. I’m pretty happy with it so far.

I bought a maintenance care pkg years ago, then my life kinda changed in a big way. Lost my home car washing option. But through several moves, the Zaino came with me. I'm just about out of the Z6 and down to my final bottle of Z7. One of the bottles of Z7 broke at some point, making a gooey mess in the container.
The Z6 does a great job for a quick detail.

At a car show, I got a sample bottle of Griot's Speed Shine, that also does a really nice quick detail job. So, on my list to replace the Z6. Unless I join the cult of Zaino personality again. And for the '95 TL, I had it bad...

Years ago I bought a corded B&D blower from Amazon for cheap.. Don’t use it much but it’s handy for certain things. Back in the spring I replaced a couple of deck boards out back. The deck is built over a set of original concrete steps that were abandoned long before I got here. When I removed the bad boards I found the old steps were covered with 40 years of rotted debris. You couldn’t easily get at it with a rake because of the deck frame so I used the blower on it and problem solved.

31 years with the post office, 6 years with Hertz, and now closing in on 5 years with Enterprise. Not sure how long I'll stay here but, like the job, so can see me doing maybe another 5 or so. Did make a major move at work though. Since I fell backwards out of the 15 pack about 7 weeks ago, have been thinking of seeing if I could go back to a minivan, which has much easier ingress/egress for me. Asked the boss for a meeting last Friday and finally got in on Monday. He closed the door so figure he thought it might be serious. Asked for a move and then he said funny, I was going to talk to you about that. Seems the weekend guy quit so they need a dedicated weekend person and he remembers I had asked to change to weekends. So he was thrilled and we decided on a T, F, Sat & Sun schedule, basically the same hours since the weekends are shorter days with no lunch.

So, am very pleased right now. Working with different crews on my 8 hour days which is fine, nice to mix it up a bit. Like a change every now & then.

We made out fine with the hurricane. We were a bit concerned when it started a southernly turn but ended up with not much rain but a windy Wednesday night and all day Thursday. The kids in Orlando went through the eye but were just fine with power just flickering a bit. The kid in St. Augustine lost power at 4 am and got it back by 1pm but she was on the dirty side of the storm, the NE quadrant. Strongest winds and squalls are in this area as hurricanes move counter clockwise.

So we basically dodged another bullet in South Florida though tornados did quite a lot of damage just 90 miles up the road from us. Our hearts go out to all those who had issues. But living in Florida, we all know the risks of hurricane season and I know I always ask myself each year, why do we stay? Why don't we just move for good? Maybe we should get a full home generator? All valid questions we never really discuss as by the end of November, hurricane season is done. But after this year, and after living through David, Andrew, Wilma & Irma, might be time to really consider one of those options. Mentally, I don't think I could go through another major storm but truth is, I really don't want to! Moving would be difficult but with some help from the kids, know we could do it. I will look into the logistics of a generator though as I think their sales will be going up. Definitely have the room out back to fit one and the peace of mind might just be worth it now. And it probably wouldn't hurt the resale value at all, might even add to the value for certain folks knowing it's already there.

One thing stands true, Mother Nature will always win, she basically rules our world. And she can be destructive as hell but at the same time, make some parts of the earth a paradise!!! We need to respect her power everyday.
