I wish I had the snow blower that @stickguy bought. Still snowing steadily here in Colorado. Lots of roads are closed to the east.
Wife and stepdaughter just left for the cooking studio. They have a class and three birthday parties scheduled today. Glad they have the Kia and not the MINI - more ground clearance.
It makes me glad to be in Florida. I arrived on Monday and the temperature has been in the high 80s all week and for next week, it is 8 to 10 degrees above normal. I feel for you man I think I'll head over to the pool (87F).
Oh yeah rub it in why don't ya.

I thought it would cheer you up. btw, the water in the pool is 87F.
That’s not a pool, that’s a sauna.
Not really, 87F is still a bit cool when you get in, especially when it reaches a certain level A sauna can be 150 to 195F, and a hot tub 104F......not supposed to go higher or we might have to fish you out.
@graphicguy Don't make the mistake I made; I listed my Wrangler on my FB page at too low a price and I had dozens of offers within the first 10 minutes.

I live in a condo and I have an EV. Currently charge it at a mall about a mile from me around once a month. It’s pretty easy and is less expensive than gas. Just check out what the options are.
The dark bands are getting worse, think it's about time for a new TV. Any suggestions on brands, mainly ones to stay away from? I've always wanted a Sony for some reason, not really sure why...

Need help from you car buying sleuths who might know a good deal. Not going to get into the weeds on this, but my older sister and I have been supporting our younger sister for a little while. Younger sister has made some questionable car purchases over the years.
She has a Jeep Wrangler now. I think it has 150K+ miles on it and there are LOTS of things wrong with it. Repairs would be throwing good money on opt of bad. So, I say it's time to move on. Only this time, instead of little sister picking the car, older sister and I are.
We are looking for the cheapest new car/lease (probably lease as we're only going to put the minimum down payment on it) anyone has run across.
EVs, like a Leaf, would be perfect. But, little sis lives in a condo with no way to charge an EV.
Thoughts?
I just drove a Nissan Versa several hundred miles and it wasn’t that bad. It even had auto headlight dimmers. Nissan seems to be putting a lot of tech into all their cars these days.

@dad23 - the 55" Insignia Roku TV I bought at Best Buy in 2015 is still going strong, although I have installed a newer Roku on it to replace the built-in one, which got very slow a few years back.

we bought a Samsung 65" 2 years ago. very nice picture. got the matching wireless sub and sound bar so sounds good too. We have an LG in the bedroom (maybe 10 years old now) that has a nice picture also.
pretty much any name brand now will have a good picture and lots of smart features. I would say get something above the base level for a little extra $ but unless you are going over the top with a home theatre or very high def digital inputs an exotic very expensive model will be a waste of money.

Agreed! The "little" 43" LG 4K unit we bought from Sam's Club as a returned sale (e.g., someone else brought it back without the packaging, so they set it up on a back shelf and sold it for cheap) for $150 back in 2016 is still working great! Nothing fancy about it, but it does its job perfectly.

This go round, my input will be minimal for my younger sister. This is her "thing". I'll kick in $1,000 and my older sister will kick in another $1,000. I'll send her your suggestions for Tacoma and Nissan Versa. But, other than that, she chooses.

TVs....I am an audio and visual hobbyist. I have an LG OLED in my Home Theater. 4 years old? In my den, I have another LG OLED, one of the first ones out there. Curved screen, etc. Maybe 8 years old? In my bedroom, I have a Panasonic Plasma TV that's at least 12 years old. I've never had an issue with any of them.
Samsung used to have the best TVs on the market. Now, they've fallen by the way side. I'd stick with LG or Sony brands. And, now's a good time to buy one with Black Friday approaching and the expected tariffs to raise prices dramatically on all of them next year.

Thanks for all of the TV feedback! I've been shopping around this morning, so many choices. I'm making a short list, will see what comes up in Black Friday sales as suggested.
Plasma screens typically lose screen brightness as they age, which is why I got rid of my Panasonic plasma a few years ago. At the time I bought it, the picture was unmatched. I remember it took 3 guys to bring it inside from the delivery truck because it was so heavy. It also sucked up lots of electricity and threw a lot of heat. It got replaced with a TCL 6-series from Amazon which has a better picture for 1/3rd of the price.

got my new shed today. Interesting watching one guy deliver it and set it up. Tow rig was something like an F450 custom bed with a shed mover on it. Didn't even need to take that off. The trailer was quite the purpose built contraption (must have cost a fortune). all kinds of hydraulic sliding and tilting parts. And the coolest part, it had sideways facing wheels in the center that could be lowered to scoot it side to side. he was able to get it backed most of the way in (required a 90 degree turn at the top of the driveway) and articulated it out over the pad and dropped it on some boards. Then fine tuned it with a big and jack that he used to get it centered, then lifted up the back to level it with some blocks.
the options to place it were either close to the driveway with a short, almost flat ramp up to the doors, or out a ways in the lawn where it was flatter but would require a down sloping ramp then running a bit across the lawn. it ended up by the driveway, but ended up needed more lift then expected in the back. So will now have a project over the winter to retrofit a small retaining wall or lattice work to fill in the gap.
Very excited though to finally be able to get all the shed stuff out of the garage this week. Going to be a busy weekend since I also have to gut the pantry, repair the holes from the shelving, and paint it so the new cabinets can go in on the following Tuesday.

Trying to remember, but I think my Panasonic Plasma was actually a Pioneer Kuro that was rebadged right after Panasonic took them over. Still has the same picture as when it was new. However, I don't want to drag it downstairs from the upstairs bedroom if it ever goes south. As you know, it's a beast.
My LGs have been great. Every time I go to Costco, they always have the new TVs right by the entrance. I can't really noticed a discernible difference in pic quality to mine, which is generations removed from the new OLEDs.

Reminds me of the good old days. In the 90s we had a Sony trinitron. Top line, I think it could do 9 PIPs at the same time. Built like a tank and weighed some absurd amount like 175pounds. These new flat panels are wonderful.
My parents had a Sony WEGA flat screen tube television--I think it was 36", or whatever was the largest they made those that would fit through a standard door. Absurdly heavy, and it got dropped whilst being moved. The picture was never right after that. Now, a lot of people want the older sets to complete their retro console game setups.
The last time I took the C250 in for an oil change the dealer said we don't just do an oil change, you have to do an A Service. The A Service cost over almost $500, includes checking the lights and oiling hinges etc. The other thing I wasn't happy about was they tried to sell me extras...and I had to keep saying no to the pretty young lady, and it took 3 1/2 hours because they have so many cars getting service they do it when they have time. This time I went to an Indie garage, it took the 1 hour and 30 minutes, they did just an oil change, it cost $180, they gave me a list of things they recommended be done but no pressure, I said maybe next time around Once the car is past warranty and gets a bit older, the C250 is 10 years old......it is better to go to a good indie garage. There was no free coffee and cookies, but I could buy those at the coffee shop down the street with the $300 I saved.

Funny you bring this up. A friend has a 2007 S-class bought from the local Mercedes dealer. Over the years he had taken it to their service department for service and repairs except for a few years after he felt they ripped him off after botching a repair and then charging him again to finally fix it correctly. He then took it to a local indie shop for a number of years with no issue until the owner retired and the shop closed.
Recently he returned to the dealer for just an oil change. Initially they said they didn’t work on cars that old and told him to take it elsewhere. He knew of nowhere else to go so he deferred it for a while and then ran into one of the higher-ups at the dealership and told his story. This fellow reassured him that they would do the service for him and gave him a name/number to call for the appointment. When he arrived, he again had some pushback from the service writer but eventually they deigned to do it despite insisting it needed an A service for much more money as you say. I don’t know what he will do the next time it needs service unless he finds a new indie shop in the interim.

A few things. My friend/neighbour in Florida has a 1986 BMW that he bought new in 1986, and he has kept it running and it looks perfect. He takes his car to a European Indie garage, and he said the dealerships won't work on older models, the young "technicians" don't know anything about older cars, and they don't want to look around for special parts. My friend had to order a speedometer from Germany, it took him a while to locate it.
In another conversation with a Mercedes owner who doesn't go to the dealer for service, he said any independent garage will do most repairs to MBs, no need to go to the dealer. He was asking about brake pads, one indie said it would cost about $2000 for 4 wheels, the guy he goes to said $500 for the fronts, and $500 for the rears...he is going to that one and that is his go-to garage.
The C250 is getting up there in years, I hope there are enough of these old European guy garages around, it is becoming a lost art.
The guys in Florida mentioned that if you buy certain parts like a cabin filter, or wipers from a place like NAPA, Total, Advance etc they will install the item for free. If you get them at the dealer they cost more and they charge garage rates to install, $110 - $180 an hour.

My coworker at big E also works at a multi-line lux dealer that handles Mercedes. They are happy to take all sorts of older cars in for service but they do charge a higher hourly rate.

I have a 24 inch flat screen tube type Toshiba with built in VHS and DVD we bought for the bonus room in 2005. I bet it has less than 100 hrs on it. It has been sitting neatly tucked away for years as it was replaced by a 1080p 32 inch some years ago, which is also barely used.

I really like the picture on our 65” Sony. The Android based Smart TV functions are nowhere near as slick as Roku but not as bad as Samsung.
IMO Roku devices (either integrated or a box/stick) are the best interfaces. I even use one in my theater room now. The picture even improved from the Xfinity box.

My TCL is a Roku tv and I recently discovered that my cable provider has a YouTube channel which seems identical to the one offered thru Roku but seems to have a sharper picture. A YT account named Voti recently uploaded HD broadcasts of NASCAR races from 2007 and 2008 (with 2009 coming soon apparently) which he seems to have tweaked somehow as they are just super-crisp. A great way to pass those long winter nights when there is nothing on worth watching.

I haven’t driven much the past few months. 3K miles on the Ariya, and I filled up the Maverick for the first time since July.

I’ve been satisfied with the Samsung I got about 12 years ago. The crazy thing about it is it’s a 3-D job and I’ve never once used that feature. And another crazy thing about it is it came with a blue ray player and I never set that gizmo up either.

pretty much any name brand now will have a good picture and lots of smart features. I would say get something above the base level for a little extra $ but unless you are going over the top with a home theatre or very high def digital inputs an exotic very expensive model will be a waste of money.

If daylight glare is an issue, some TVs are better than others in that regard.

I think LG is better, and Sony is best. But, Sony tends to be pricy.
If they have what you want, Costco has good prices. I've had good luck shopping at Best Buy, though.

And, now's a good time to buy one with Black Friday approaching and the expected tariffs to raise prices dramatically on all of them next year.

the options to place it were either close to the driveway with a short, almost flat ramp up to the doors, or out a ways in the lawn where it was flatter but would require a down sloping ramp then running a bit across the lawn. it ended up by the driveway, but ended up needed more lift then expected in the back.

This time I went to an Indie garage, it took the 1 hour and 30 minutes, they did just an oil change, it cost $180, they gave me a list of things they recommended be done but no pressure, I said maybe next time around
Once the car is past warranty and gets a bit older, the C250 is 10 years old......it is better to go to a good indie garage.
There was no free coffee and cookies, but I could buy those at the coffee shop down the street with the $300 I saved.
