Can't remember if I mentioned this, but I asked her about winter tires for the Sportage, and she turned me down. We've never run winter specific tires on any of our cars in the past, but I'm pretty sure the OEMs on the Sportage were picked for fuel efficiency, not all season traction. Guess we'll find out today and tomorrow.

A little while back I mentioned I liked to watch Adam The Woo's YouTube channel sometimes. This week has been entertaining as he decided to visit @xwesx up in Alaska, the only state he had never been to before. He has lived most of his adult life in warmer climes, so his worries about and reaction to being in actual snow are fun. He arrived in Anchorage a few days ago and the most recent videos are him taking a helicopter tour, driving to Seward, and then becoming anxious about driving in snow or ice which looked like a big overreaction to actual conditions, but I can't be too critical if he has zero experience with it. His first morning in Anchorage he was fascinated by a municipal worker with a snowblower using it to clear sidewalks, which I gather he had never witnessed before.
My one and only trip to Alaska was for work - was lucky enough to have the wife accompany me, and it was in May. Also drove to Seward and visited the aquarium there, and did a glacier viewing day trip out of Whittier.
Haven't watched any of them yet, but there are some video's on YT about the EPA getting dismantled.
I'm sure. I predict individual tax credits for EVs are probably going to sunset, but there will probably be new incentives for manufacturing domestically, which might get passed down.
The last day of the 2000 ALCAN Winter Rally We had a TSD stage starting outside Anchorage and ending at Big Lake with an ice autocross. There had been some freezing rain in the morning and traffic was so screwed up that the organizers cut several miles off the TSD stage. My editor, who at the time lived in Anchorage, was riding shotgun and opined, "Winter always catches Alaskans by surprise."

I dunno if I mentioned it but around the end of October my Mastercard (my primary CC that I use most often) statement arrived carrying 2 USD charges on it from a merchant in Phoenix that I didn't recognize. I called my bank and after a short back-and-forth they cancelled that card and issued a replacement with a different number, a bit of a pain. They also reversed those charges. I have that new card now and it works fine so I hope there aren't too many recurring charges that will now fail and need to be switched.
The scam merchant in Arizona is called ClickCart so watch out. I suspect but do not know that they either tapped into or are in cahoots with a supposedly legit US merchant from whom I made an online purchase.
I had to cancel a card after a 2nd Netflix account appeared on it. Was easy enough. Good thing is recurring payments (autopays) still work. I think if the bank recognizes it as a legit charge it keeps happening and shows up in your statement the same.
Makes sense since they are not cancelling your account,, just issuing a new card number to it. Same as if you have multiple cards with their own numbers on one account.

I do all my own interior painting so it will never be a whole house at once. Generally one room or section at a time, over a weekend. So Friday night move stuff and prep, Saturday do the trim and ceiling, Sunday walls and clean up. Something like that. Or ceiling in the morning, walls afternoon on Saturday. Depends on my energy level! Not hard on a normal weekend for one room though I’ve done 2 bedrooms at the same time.
We also usually paint each room a different color. Just gets tricky when doing the halls and stairwells, those are one color and usually take longer. Just less stuff to move! And I hate stairwells.

We are keeping it simple - the whole house (save beds and baths) are getting the same color. I went back to the paint store this morning for more samples - trim and doors.
We will eventually get around to painting the other rooms, but probably after our senior dogs cross the rainbow bridge, as we are likely to replace the carpet in those rooms as well.

I don’t follow. The autopay vendor no longer has a valid link to my CC since it no longer exists on my account. I had to remove the old card from my PayPal account and add the new one to let that keep working.

Awhile ago I asked for opinions on snow tires on modern RWD trucks because I was concerned that the big box stores would try to pressure me into buying four when IMO you really only need two. I got mixed opinions with one suggestion to just go to the indie guy and get what I wanted.
In the meantime I was listening to a local mechanic’s radio show and gave them a call on air. His conclusion was that there was no real concern with putting snows on the drive wheels and leaving the all seasons on the front.
So that’s what I’m doing. My indie guy will be slapping two snows on the rear wheels of the F-150 this week.

Yeah, I guess I left you hanging on that one. For me, it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If it is about trying to keep/get yourself moving, then putting the tires only on the drive wheels is the way to go. However, especially on RWD, this does nothing for steering and very little for braking, and that can be a big deal depending how often you see slick roads (along with where you drive).
Personally, I will always go with a set of four because I want my tires to offer predicable and versatile performance, and two imposes a lot of limitations.

@oldfarmer50 The worst possible scenario is having less traction for your rear tires than your front tires.
With winter tires on the rear, that will be the case in every instance, except when snow is on the ground.
Good luck to you.

It looks like I’m going ahead with a full reno of my little kitchen which means choosing colors, among other things. I don’t really want white cabinets, though I might go for an off white with cream or green or even a slight blue tone, though who knows. Then there’s greige… and I hesitate to mention this, but I saw a pic from a magazine of pale blue cabinets with brushed gold-color hardware that really looked good to me, which probably means nobody else would like it.
The other thing is that since the space is small, I might need all new appliances that fit the space better. One thing I learned today is that a “counter depth” refrigerator isn’t 24” as you might reasonably expect given the name, but usually more like 29”. In the words of Nancy Kerrigan, “Whyyyyyyyy???”
why? Mostly because it has to stick out that far so you can open the doors! we got one of those and proportionally it looks better since the fridge is in a run of counters. If it was more by itself where the depth was not an issue I would want normal depth to get the extra interior capacity.
we have white cabinets with a navy blue Island. Looks really sharp. But I actually like a light wood tone. We did that in our bathrooms and the cabinets look really good. Much nicer than plain white. if we had to do it again I might push for that. Would lose, but would give it a try!
electrician came by again today. confirmed the obvious that the outlet was dead. so he went down to the basement to check the breaker (was fine) and the GFI that is was connected to. pulled that out, and quickly found that something had not been connected before the insulation crew put up the vapor barrier paper and they didn't realize it. Of course, that means the outlet was never tested but I did not point that out. He connected the missing link, and everything works fine now. Too bad our fence did not go in a couple of days earlier, so he could have fixed the outlet when I had him out already. His problem though.
@ab348 - bought a "counter depth" Frigidaire when I moved into my current place in 2015. The LEDs in the control board failed once it was out of warranty. Later, a spring in the "through the door" icemaker failed and jammed the chute open. At that point, I bought a new chute mechanism and new control board. Cost about $500 in parts and my labor was free. The LEDs in the control board began failing again about a year later.
I'm a one person (and one pet) household... when that thing finally fails to refrigerate, I'm replacing it with one or two dorm room fridges.
@ab348 - if you aren't planning to sell your place - and I'm guessing you're not - get what appeals to you. I know the gold fixtures are starting to come back into vogue, and they match a big variety of cabinet colors.
We painted our cabinets a couple of years ago. Light grey on top, dark grey on the bottom. We used a kit specific to cabinets, and they turned out pretty good.
Trim in the living room was painted this evening - baseboards and windowsills. A little darker than I'd like, but, again, I'm not the designer in the family. They do contrast nicely with the white (excuse me, "Snowbound") paint on the walls.
We redid our kitchen and living room 2 years ago. We hired a designer because I’m terrible with colors. She was fabulous and her price was a tiny part of the overall project. Our kitchen is tiny so white cabinets and white walls make it seem lighter overall. But Californians like everything white. We added a light aqua/mint green tile backsplash going all the way up to the cabinets and ceiling where the cabinets end, really looks nice. We also got a counter depth refrigerator back when we moved because of the small space, it’s been fabulous.
Couldn't remember what the kitchen view was from the loft in the model home from 3 years ago. It's the same layout as our house. Some of the same style houses, has a vaulted ceiling, have sold since we moved here but none of the real estate photo's show the tops of the cabinets. This picture shows the lights in the upper cabinets.

There are some great looking shades of green in cabinets. We were very close to that, before doing white.
As @stickguy noted, it's 4" of door and 1" of handle sticking out, or you couldn't open the door. Counter depth looks great. Also, all CD fridges are 35 3/4" wide, so it's easy to plan for. Not the biggest inside, but if you are a household of one, that shouldn't matter.
I wish I had the snow blower that @stickguy bought. Still snowing steadily here in Colorado. Lots of roads are closed to the east.

we finally found a good deal on a garage ready fridge. Ended up with an LG which made me happy. 18 CF (17.5 maybe?). Normal depth but we have plenty of room for it in the garage bump out (man I love having a way oversized 2 car, about the SF of some new 3 car ones). Fridge seems to work great, and is designed to be their garage fridge (that is all over the advertising for this one). Rated from 38-110 degrees, and given that the garage is fully insulated not worried about getting much lower than that. It is pretty far from the door on an inside wall too.
the Fridgidaire counter depth inside is nice, but a little smaller than would be ideal at about 22 CF maybe. normal use is fine but when my wife cooks extra or just went shopping gets a bit jammed up. Mostly though we got the garage for the holidays. Probably a waste of money but that is all we do these days. New fence looks nice though, and really helps define a back yard! Just have to finish cleaning up the reclaimed space.
the LG we got (top freezer, white, glass shelves, hidden handle, would look fine inside) was only $540 at Lowes courtesy of the 10% off coupon they sent me, and it being on sale.
also, LG makes a counter depth fridge that they tout as having regular fridge capacity (maybe 26CF?) that looks really nice. probably expensive though.
I too love our 2+ car garage. The house across the street from us has a similar configuration and they have three cars parked in it - a Sorento, a Sportage and a Soul.
