My first (ok, maybe second) thought mimicked @kyfdx. In the latter few years of his life, my father had to slide along the side of the car for support to retrieve his walker from the trunk. So, while inelegant, it would appear to be a functional solution.

I can tell you that my father in law has terrible balance. He needs a walker which obviously doesn't fit in the front seat. So there is obviously some sort of mobility device in the trunk.

I have been canned from 6 jobs.....can anyone top that? The first time I was canned I was 19 years old working in a warehouse picking orders. The guys went out for lunch on payday, which was every other Friday. When we got back there were about 8 in line to get our cards time stamped. I was near the end of the line and one guy did my card - I didn't ask him to do it. The supervisor saw him do it and fired me. I went up to the main office and asked to speak to the president. I explained that I was a student completing two courses and would be going back to school full time in 3 months. He reinstated me. It did teach me I didn't want to work in a warehouse. btw....that was before computers. It was a warehouse for hardware stores. To do inventory you walked around with a desk and counted inventory....like it could be 1053 screws, 546 bolts etc., this was before they did reordering when you reached a minimum. Mind numbing work!!!!!!
Don't they usually do inventory for things like screws, nails and the like by weight?
Not in those days. I had a pulpit like device with wheels, and I'd walk along and fill out the inventory card. Later, companies used a mini/maxi system. If you need 500 screws on hand, you'd say that when it gets down to 100, you need to order 400 more. But weight might have been one way to do it.

As the aforementioned sandwich maker we had to inventory EVERYTHING nightly. Cups, bread, jars of mayo, pounds of meat, you name it. If it was in the store we had to count it.

On our trip to Burlington VT this morning we had a nice view of the snow covered mountains across the lake in NY. This picture doesn’t do it justice. It was a more brilliant white in person.
In the afternoon we were down in Monticello NY near the casino and they must have still had 6” of snow in some places.
Our run of unusually nice weather is over.🥲

I find it amusing that what you call “mountains” back east is the elevation at which I live (5900’).

Here's the view of Mt. Mansfield from out lakefront. I know that @Michaell will scoff that it's only 4500' high, but it is higher than the lake, so it looks impressive from here.
It's about time! And, right ON time for Thanksgiving holiday travel. All is right in the world again.
I don’t look forward to driving in that “all is right with the world” for the next four months. 😫 that picture is so nice because the snow is where it belongs, up on a mountain, far, far away.

Oh, yeah? Well at least our mountains offer much icier skiing than yours! In your face! Wait, not ice. Extremely frozen granular...

Booked a D-car from Thrifty for my trip to LA later this week. Here's hoping it's a VW Jetta (as suggested) and not an "or similar" (Sentra, Corolla, etc.)... Either that, or they give me an upgrade. Was considering booking a full size, but "Malibu or similar" did not make me reach for my credit card.
@laurasdada - I’m sorry, but the combination of snow, gravity, and trees does not make for a good time.
Ask Sonny Bono. Or the Kennedy progeny who died in a skiing accident.
They are adding an extra lane to I-70 in the mountains to help alleviate the congestion to and from the ski resorts, however.
Au contraire, mon frere. Don't knock it till you've tried it! More dangerous to be on the roads, likely. But, to each.
introduced the wife to skiing. She enjoyed, but is hesitant to go to the top of the mountain. Even though I told her there are easy trails from the top (I just want her to see the beauty). But she wants to jump out of an airplane... To each.

I'm driving down to daughter in Albany for Thanksgiving tomorrow. The forecast makes it look like a sloppy trip down 22A and the rest of the way. Ugh.

What's a D-car?
Thrifty is certainly a choice. Are you renting from LAX?
I’ve done a lot of car renting over the years and have to say National has treated me best.
Emerald aisle is fantastic and when I traveled heavier the executive selection (where available) was great.
They are also very flexible. You pay for the mid size tier and select whatever was on the aisle. A few months back there was nothing left on the aisle, so I just grabbed something from the exec side and they waived me right through

You should have booked with Enterprise, you could have gotten an Aston Martin, Maserati or Jaguar with an exotic rental available at LAX.🚗

When we had friends visiting this summer, the only rental they could get at LAX was a jeep with off-road tires! Not exactly a freeway cruiser. I usually use Costco Travel for rentals. I don’t see much difference in most of the companies.
Drove from MA to Jersey City, NJ yesterday. Not as bad as I expected, usually a ~5 hour drive, this time ~8.5 with a gas/lunch stop. MA/RI/CT were ok, but as soon as we hit the Hutch in NYS, parking lot. Including the Cross County, Saw Mill and West Side of Manhattan. The two blocks to the Hollandaise Tunnel were brutal, that was probably 20-30 minutes! But once in the tunnel, it moved. As always, the A7 was an excellent companion.
