If that were true, we’d all be rich. Buy 2 tickets and you now have a 2 in 302M chance, not 1 in 151M.
A 2 in 302m chance is a 1 in 151M chance however the odds are still heavily against you. But let's face it, if you buy 5 tickets every drawing for your entire life and live to 80 you still only have a 0.0135% chance of winning. So yes buying more tickets gets you better odds but you go from really, really bad odds to well still really, really bad odds.
Lets put it this way. if the lottery was a flip of a coin and I buy one ticket for heads I have a 1 in 2 chance of winning, but if I buy two tickets each a different outcome that means I have a ticket for heads and one for tails so now I have a 2 in 2 chance or a 1 in 1 chance of winning or a 100% chance of winning.
Or you can look at it this way, you can buy up every possible combination (if you had the time and money) you will win and if you're they only winner come away a few hundred million richer after taxes and taking into account the money spent on the tickets. But if someone else wins you are screwed.
————————————————- Don’t make it so complex. Just buy one ticket, OK, maybe 2 and resign yourself to the fact that you contributed to the pot for the winner. That person will be forever grateful.
FWIW, if I ever had the second place ticket, I’d jump off a low bridge.

btw....the chance of winning the MegaMillion Jackpot is 1 in 302,575, 380. The chance of getting struck by lightning is 1 in 15,000. The next draw since there wasn't a winner Tuesday is on Friday, for $1.15 Billion. If I win I may not be posting for a week or two. I'll have a lot to sort out. Oh, since I don't buy lottery tickets I found it interesting you can't use a credit card to buy a ticket....cash only!
The odds of being struck by lightning is one in 15,300 over an 80 year life span, the 1 in 302,575,380 chance is for one ticket for one drawing. Buy two tickets and your odds decrease by half, buy tickets for more than one drawing you have a better chance of winning. But it is still is an extremely tiny chance of winning during your lifetime.
Each lottery ticket has the same odds of winning no matter how many you buy. Each one has independent probability not altered by the frequency of play or how many other tickets you bought for the same drawing

My friends wife wanted a Cadillac Lyriq. The were going to Toronto for a day trip....50 miles away. The car said the range was 150 miles (it was a cold day, about 35F). They got to the mall in Toronto and when they came out they had 60 miles to get home (50 mile trip) They looked at the charging stations at the mall, 20 of them, only one worked and it was being used. The called Cadillac and the closest dealer was too far to go to. They went to a Ford dealer figuring the two would use the same chargers. The Ford chargers were being fixed, they weren't working. The service guy said take an Uber to the mall, call at 4 p.m. if I can charge it I will, or you can take an Uber home (50 miles) and come back tomorrow. It was charged at 4 p.m. but only to 110 mile range. The service manager said you can drive it home but don't use the heater, it uses 40% more charge in the cold weather. They drove home freezing, but they made it. The Lyriqs are beautiful, I saw one today. Not my thing though.

What if the two tickets have exactly the same numbers?
Anyone else bought 10 tickets in these high value lottery times only to not see even one number drawn on any of the 10 rows?
I remember when the lottery in OHIO was from 1 to 40. Now the max number is 70 or so for the 5 numbers and 1 up to 25 on the Gold Ball. Dramatically reduces your odds of winning.

Sort of--I've never bought ten at once, but it's amazing how often I get zero of my numbers drawn on a ticket. Also, I get dismayed when I get a cluster of numbers on a quick pick that are "too close" together, despite knowing that they have the same chances of being drawn as numbers that are spread further apart.

i guess it is true but it is deceiving. Twice as much chance of winning when there is already a 1 in 302 million chances to 1 of winning. It is probably something that people who buy lots of lottery tickets tell themselves.
One tennis guy said they make you pay cash for lottery tickets so that you don't buy $1000 worth, and then lose, and then claim that someone stole your card, so you don't want the $1000 charged to you.
I haven't checked it, but I am sure there are people who would try that!

Back in the 80's when the Illinois lottery was 6 out of 40 numbers I would drop $5 a week on the numbers and I was winning $50 - $80 about once a month for about a year and a half or so. Since then I haven't won a dime on the lottery. I have maybe played it 5 times in the last 30 years.

Some states allow buying lottery tickets with a credit card but I would strongly advise against it. #1. you should never gamble on credit #2. Many processors treat it as a cash advance which has different, more expensive, fees and conditions.

A cosmetic option? I don't think so, But that being said a few years ago BMW started making M series sports bikes. On paper the M series was identical to the normal bike, Same engine size, same horsepower at torque at the same RPM same vehicle weight all the same. The only thing that I could think of was that it was all cosmetic differences and/or some minor settings for pegs and handlebars and the like.

Exactly. 2 in 302M doesn’t reduce to 1 in 151M. They don’t divide, they subtract. So if the first number is wrong, the 2nd, assuming it is a different combination, has a 1 in 301,999,999 chance. Buying 2 tickets doesn’t magically erase half the possible combinations.

BMW makes M versions in three levels: M Sport is usually just a trim package, although some come with a standard M Sport suspension. M Performance cars have the most powerful non M motor in the range- M240, M340, M550, etc. they also get added suspension tweaks, bigger brakes and usually a true locking diff. M Cars get an exclusive engine, body panels, and usually M compound brakes. M Performance models are often called M Lites as they are one rung down on the pecking order (much like AMG cars without hand built engines). On the BMW M website BMW touts the M Performance cars, but if you try to join the M Owners group with the VIN of an M Performance model you are rejected. When I owned my M235i I never referred to it as an M car because it simply wasn't one. In contrast, even though I don't own a "real" AMG I was admitted into the AMG Private Lounge's owners forum- but again, it isnt a true AMG model.

Independent Probability Each lottery ticket has the same odds of winning no matter how many you buy. Each one has independent probability not altered by the frequency of play or how many other tickets you bought for the same drawing.
I take that as each ticket has a 1 in 302 million chance of winning. It isn't like heads and tales....every ticket has variable numbers. Every ticket, is independent of the other tickets.

No, it really isn’t. Each of those tix does not have a 1:150M chance. Let’s try a smaller example. Let’s say you have a carton of 12 eggs. 11 white and 1 blue. Blindfolded, you have to pick the blue. On your first chance, you have a 1 in 12 shot. On your 2nd chance, what do you think your odds are? I promise you it isn’t 1 in 6.

I was behind a BMW 340i today and I noticed it had a small M badge next the model designation on the trunk lid. I wonder if this was a true M car or just the cosmetic options.
His license plate said: ‘SUPRA V’. Now I’m really confused.
M340i is the model name
No, it isn't an "M" car
Maybe you should contact BMW they think that the M340i is an M series car.
Again BMW has the M340i as a M series car with the 3.0 liter 6 cylinder turbo over the 2.0 liter 4 banger the 330I has and the pictures they have of the M340i has the M badge on it. SO I will go by what I see on BMW's website.

Don’t make it so complex. Just buy one ticket, OK, maybe 2 and resign yourself to the fact that you contributed to the pot for the winner. That person will be forever grateful.
FWIW, if I ever had the second place ticket, I’d jump off a low bridge.

Well I work with numbers so I like to play around with them. Anyways I don't need your stinking lottery. I just got a call from my lawyer and the insurance company is going to settle so I'm going to be a thousandaire. so there.

One ticket is a chance in 302 million
Two tickets is 2 chances in 302 million, a fraction of a fraction of better odds, less than a millionth better odds.

The were going to Toronto for a day trip....50 miles away.
The car said the range was 150 miles (it was a cold day, about 35F).
They got to the mall in Toronto and when they came out they had 60 miles to get home (50 mile trip)
They looked at the charging stations at the mall, 20 of them, only one worked and it was being used.

Everybody who isn’t a math wizard knows that. But maybe because of the overwhelming negative odds he’s going to tell us that 2 times 0 is 0. Maybe?

even one number drawn on any of the 10 rows?
I remember when the lottery in OHIO was from 1 to 40. Now the max number
is 70 or so for the 5 numbers and 1 up to 25 on the Gold Ball. Dramatically reduces your odds of winning.

That’s not hard to believe. And probably the ones who thought of it have a lot of time to think about things like that because they’re not in the work force. Folks who work 8 hours a day are thinking of other things. Like how to feed their families and buy cars.

If you have 2 numbers out of 300 million, your chances of winning are 1 in 150 million.
If you have 10 numbers, then 1 in 30 million.
If you have 150 million numbers out of 300 million, your chances are 1 in 2. 50/50.
That’s exactly the way it works.

The Dublin Murder Squad Series, The Searcher, and The Hunter by Tana French- I love British and Irish detective novels.

The King of Late Night by Greg Gutfeld- my wife and several of my friends think Gutfeld and I were separated at birth; I consider that to be a high honor.
Sports Car and Competition Driving by Paul Frere- a mandatory re-read; Retirement 2.0 begins on January 5th, and I plan to get back into instructing track driving in a few months.

Each lottery ticket has the same odds of winning no matter how many you buy. Each one has independent probability not altered by the frequency of play or how many other tickets you bought for the same drawing.
I take that as each ticket has a 1 in 302 million chance of winning.
It isn't like heads and tales....every ticket has variable numbers. Every ticket, is independent of the other tickets.
