I've heard anecdotal remarks that EVs burn through tires quickly, but a lot of those complaints seem to be related to EVs that are both heavy and high performance, such as the Model S. I only have a little over 2,000 miles on the Ariya, and it's too soon to tell, but preliminarily, I think the OE tires should be good for the entire 15,000 miles / 18 months of the lease.
@corvette, That's a joke, right? I went on tirerack and the oem tires are about $290 each(just the tire) and the smaller option, out of stock, is rated for 40K.

In a past life I was a dairy farmer. When I left that in my 20's, I eventually ran a small business. The early rising was a fact of life. Now that I don't have to get up early, I still can't not! Today was 4:30. If I sleep past 5:30 I'm happy.
FYI, I re-titled the original discussion to include (archived), so the slightly annoying "part 2" has been removed from this one.

That is an option. A few are in the way of where we want to run the fence and reclaim space into the yard. But I can always relocate them to the forever wild back corners of the yard!

EV tires cost 20-30-in some cases 50% more, and mileage will be about 20% less. Heavier weight, faster acceleration, different materials to get a quieter ride.
Electric vehicles raise safety concerns as to whether guardrails can handle car's excess weight Guardrails on U.S. roads are typically tested against vehicles weighing up to 5,000 lbs. However, many electric vehicles weigh up to 30% more than that, raising safety concerns on whether guardrails would hold up in a collision.
the slew of oversized pickups and big SUVs weigh more than that and seem to do OK
Most cars weigh under 5000 pounds. Barriers are made to keep a majority of cars on the road. A Ford F-150 is on the heavier side, and it weighs in at just under 5000 pounds. Obviously, barriers are not made to keep every vehicle on the road. You build for the 80%.

I am in Canada nyc, I go to Florida on Nov 4th...just before your election (I hope that isn't considered political). I had to convert to non-metric as that is what the majority here use.
I have a car announcement - just got home from my Genesis dealer with my new 2024 Genesis G90 V6 twin turbo with electric supercharger. MSRP was just under $102,000. Truly beautiful and drives better than any car I’ve ever owned or leased. It’s charcoal grey with a medium brownish leather interior. It has the sport wheels with Michelin tires.
I leased this one because of the astounding incentive ($10,500) + ($5,000) for loyalty which I’d deducted from the agreed upon capital cost of the G90. They gave me $40,000 for my 2021 Base G90 ($5,000 more than wholesale value) my remaining balance of my loan on the 2021 was $19560 - so my total cap cost reduction was $20,000. My monthly payments are $652 tax included on a 36 month 10K mile lease. The $20,000 cap cost reduction was not taxable because it came from the proceeds of my trade.
I did this because I wanted to reward myself for still being alive after double bypass heart surgery and a horrendous fall and 8-1/2 weeks total in rehab.
That $20,000 cap cost reduction will disappear if the vehicle is totaled and is the equivalent of an additional $555.55 monthly payment. Maybe I am missing something though??
Over $40,000 to borrow a vehicle for 36 months / 30000 miles seems like a lot but they also seem to depreciate rapidly so maybe not so bad??
This short discussion of leasing has left me knowing I'll never understand all the ins-and-outs of leasing.
If it fit your lifestyle, you'd take the time to learn all about it.
Yes. That's right.
I would like to trade to a different car, but can't justify it with all the trouble of finding one my wife can easily enter and exit with her back and body problems.
Leasing might be a good choice the next time. Don't know how long I might be driving or it might be easier for my son to liquidate from my estate.
@laurasdada - it's a sign from the universe to plug it in more!
Too risky...
I actually do try to always have juice in the battery, but with three cars and two garage spaces (yes, thank y'all for the deepest sympathies. Although compared to most CCBA members, I'm a dilettante!) sometimes my laziness overcomes my other sensibilities.
Did I mention that I spent a couple of nights at my DisneyWorld, Mohegan Sun Casino, and they've installed ~20 new charging stations? But they're all Tesla/NACS! And my ancient mariner Audi doesn't play that game. They're down to one working CCS charger and it was being used by a ... Tesla!
I used my portable charger in one of their 120 outlets in the garage, but it either fell out or was removed from the outlet after charging to 50%. That's not happened before.

Over the years chasing the deals has yielded a few vehicles I would have never owned otherwise. Wife’s EQE is definitely one of them.
We leased for a long while, then decided to try and keep cars longer than two or three years.
Didn't always work out, so played the negative equity game for a bit.
Now, we own the Outback outright, and there was enough down payment on the Sportage to skip the GAP insurance so the daughter has a reasonable monthly payment.
Though having a new car in the garage is giving me the itch to go shopping for myself!
Just spent the morning organizing the garage to give us more space for the cars, as the Sportage is much bigger than the MINI it replaced.

I'll guess it's easier to liquidate a car you own, rather than one you leased. At least, if you want to come out ahead.

Yeah maybe someday… as long as we maintain two residences that we drive and forth to I’ll keep leasing. If I get my wish and move down the shore I’ll certainly at that own something because the mileage will be stupid low since we rarely leave the island and drive the golf cart everywhere
