I saw a Benzes & Bowties video this AM where he is talking about "crazy" reasons customers have traded cars in and bought new ones. He gave a few plausible reasons such as, "a customer lost their key and didn't want to buy a new key so he traded in the car and bought a new one." "A customer bought a car, 3 weeks later it got a door ding, didn't want to get it fixed, traded in their car for a new one." Then he said: "Let me know in the comments if you know anyone who has traded in a car for a new one for some bizzare or illogical reason."

Took the F-150 in for first seviec today - The Works. Basically, oil/filter change, tire rotation and fluid top off's if needed. Tire tread measured as 12/32's.
About $94. It takes 8 quarts of oil.
I didn't dare walk the lot, especially since my daughter wants to buy my Explorer.

My SIL many years ago (the 90s) traded a very nice accord for a Volvo (740 I think). Stayed reason was it needed new wiper blades and the cassette deck heads needed to be cleaned.

Conceptually I can. It just seems a lot harder than it used to. Part of it is being a retirement portfolio hoarder, but also I don’t know what I would get and car shopping now seems to be way worse than it used to be!

I need to get my driveway bump out extended 4’. That might make it easier to park something outside if I want to go to 3 cars. Not that I would be able to use them all.

Pretty sure too that my wife is packing it in next spring a year before we intended to (and 1 before Medicare, assuming it still exists then). If she makes it that long before snapping. I’ll suck it up 1 more year to keep benefits if needed. So I (um, she) should get a new car to make it worth doing!

I posted on C&C that I took the Wrangler to my dealer for an oil change (oil life was down to 5%). I took advantage of a couple of Jeep service coupons and bought two oil changes and received a free tire rotation. Total cost was $140.58, but the next visit will be free.
The CCBA addendum is that the Jeep dealer has a 1998 M Roadster; Imola Red and just 35k miles. Only $17,500. If it drops to $15,000 I may not be able to resist.

Son kept bugging me all day because their store is coming up REALLY short on their monthly goal. I told him that my offer would be seriously insulting with current lease numbers. I’d take a Kicks for $99/mo with $99 DAS at 10k/yr. Best his boss said he could get to was 200 on an SR. Thankfully he knows enough to tell his boss I don’t negotiate, so my son didn’t even present that to me (only heard once he got home). Good deal, but not good enough to make me take something I don’t need and barely want.

Does the ‘98 have the older motor or the higher hp motor?

What’s your opinion on annual oil changes on a car driven only a thousand miles or so a year and stored for winter?

I saw what I think was an EV fire on I-87 (Northway) up near stickguy’s neighborhood. The reason I think it was an EV is because the firefighters had stopped fighting the fire after putting out the fire in the upper part of the car and passenger cabin. They seemed to be just standing by as fire furiously shot out from underneath the car. I’m guessing that they were at this point just letting itself burn out.

I'll give you my opinion.
Change the oil before winter storage. That way you are driving on new oil in the spring.
Gas is the same thing. Run it down, put in some preservative when you put it away.
In the spring, fill it up with fresh fuel.

Funny, the 740 my parents had included a feature on the tape deck to remind you to clean the heads. I think it lit up every 10 hours of play or something ridiculously short.

I think most USB ports in cars will support a USB CD/DVD drive as an external media device, but I’ve never tried it.

I've browsed some CD devices but the reviews are mixed.
Not interested in taking the time to copy to a USB stick.

I ripped my entire CD collection to MP3 many years ago and put them in my iTunes library. Now, the CDs take up space in the armoire in my living room.

In undergrad, I remember campus police warning students not to use those CD holder covers for car sun visors, because it could attract a break-in.

The older engine- it's a blessing and a curse- the blessing is that the motor is essentially a higher displacement version of the 328i motor with a hotter cam; the curse is that it's not a "real" M motor so the powers is down.

My dad definitely would have qualified as an OG CCBAer.

We had a Jetta GLI, 940 Turbo, 2 Land Cruisers, two Taurus SHOs, an Audi S6 Avant, an Audi V8, an Audi A8, Ford Excursion, Volvo V70 T5, Audi Allroad, and on and on. That was all from ‘93 to ‘03 between both of my parents.

Speaking of SHO, I drove up behind what appeared to be an ex police car. It had a dual exhaust and flex fuel and AWD badging. The license plate said “SHO OFF”

We had the first 3 generations of SHO's. I wanted to get a 4th gen but have not got one, yet.
I would get the plate SHO 4.

Does your car have a 3.5mm Aux input? I’d go that route if it does since you still want your phone connected via Bluetooth

This one looks decent enough. Has skip protection (buffer) Bluetooth and Aux cable.

Doesn’t look like Sony, Panasonic, etc still make them.

I've been doing the annual service/oil change in the fintail since it left DD status almost 25 years ago. It seems to be fine, but I think it might matter less to some old cars as they might not be picky about oil as long as it keeps things oiled. Lately I have also been putting fuel stabilizer in it when it goes into hibernation.

I looked into CD players at one point, but never got one. I do have 4 large boxes of CDs downstairs. Maybe in retirement I burn them all!

I did do a few hundred many years ago, and built a big itunes library. And at some point during a computer crash/replacement I think, everything I added got lost which was very annoying. I do now have another program I found where I collected a bunch of songs I had from various sources on my computer and got them in one place, and copied onto a thumb drive (about 3,000). eventually I will add to that library!

My favorite was my wife's 96. That 3.4 V8 had the best startup sound.
The 92 I had was nicknamed 'Heroin'. It was addicting.

It is much easier when you have several to choose from each day, and when the one you are replacing is a 58hp automatic Kei car.

The kid says the SR Kicks is the only one to get. Far better seats and more spunk. But he particularly likes that it reminds him of our clown car in that it feels massive inside compared to how it looks from outside.

I'd go possibly two years but no longer than that.

Hey- from 1975 to 1978 the State Highway Department was my summer job. Do I have stories. Summer help weren't supposed to even drive the pickups and I ended up driving dump trucks, a water truck, an oil distributor, a grader, and a roller- as well as pickups and mowers. Another college kid and I would drag race the pickups at lunch.
