"TSB for Sequoias"
and they will find that there is a solution for the booming base.
So it seems as thought they are aware of this problem and have a solution.
I went to carsdirect.com and bought a LTD the next day at 1700 off sticker. Maybe I could have gotten a better deal in a few weeks or months, but not by much. Plus on the web site, I ordered only the options I wanted. At the dealers you had to buy the cars as they came in, with stuff like bug deflectors on the hood and glass breakage sensors (I can tell if my glass is broken thanks). I have to wait 4 weeks to pick up my car, but it will have exactly all the options I want, including color.
For a hot car with limited inventory I highly recommend carsdirect.com. My sales associate is essentially an auto broker so he does all the arranging and paperwork, all I have to do is go pick up the car.
Anyone else use carsdirect.com? Anyone able to beat 1700 off MSRP with a fully loaded Limited 4WD?
I used CarsDirect.com for an E320 and they delivered it to my driveway.
It was the best deal I could find at the time.
I would not hesitate in using them again.
Now lurking on this board buying a sequoia in 6 months. Looked at ML and Accura but liked the quality and size of this Toyota.
Best of luck with your purchase.

FYI to all I think I may have experienced my first Sequoia tremor (ok vibration--it felt like I was riding over the botts-dots) as a I was accelerating from a light. I have about 350 miles on the 4X4 limited. Has there been any resolution to this issue? I could not find a resolution on sequoia solutions--with any luck maybe it was just the caffeine kicking in???
As for carsdirect in the San Diego area the difference between MSRP and selling price is only about $55.00
The Sequoia scored 1st in 7 out of 10 towing categories. They were handling tongue weight, visibility, flatland towing, launch ramp, braking, ride/control,and fuel economy. The Sequoia also had the highest achieved speed in mountain towing on a 2%,4%,5%and 6%grade.
The Sequoia also scored 1st in 3 out of 5 non-towing categories.
I think this article highlights how there are many factors associated with towing, not just higher horsepower, torque and towing rating.
Factors such as braking, handling and ability to handle tongue weight are very significant.
FYI the boat towed for the test was a 23 foot SeaRay on a tandem axle trailer. Total towed weight was 5840 pounds. No modifications, sway bars or weight distributing hitches.
This is a serious and competent tow vehicle!
If you do may the force be with you!
You obviously chose to ignore one of the key points and that is there is more to being a serious tow vehicle than just tow rating! That rig you use to haul your 14000 lbs probably isn't very practical or comfortable for anything other than excessive towing. My comments pertained to previous posts about not being able to tow "over 2000lbs"etc.
Have a good day.....
I would guess that the number of Yukon/Expedition/Sequoia buyers who tow over
6000#'s is probably about 1 out of 1000.
I think Toyota made the right decision in ignoring that micro-niche market segment and
making the truck more drivable in everyday use.
cheers,jim
I am considering the switch to synthetic motor oil and still have some sorting out to do. I have about 1400 miles on my Sequoia 4x4 Limited (no tapping noise YET) and I was wondering...
1. How many miles before I should make the switch?
2. Any brand better than another? If so - Why?
3. Stick with 10-30W or maybe broaden the range to 5-30W or 10-40W?
4. What about the SAE 0W5 stuff - any better?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
My problem is passenger space. With 2 kids, carpooling, dog and grandparents toting to dinner 2 or 3 times per month, we need 3rd row seating. I have tested all the new large SUVs and was most impressed with the Expedition and Toyota Sequoia. Although these are really impressively easy to handle, I am really not comfortable driving something as big as these. I also searched the midsize SUV market, but I haven't seen any with REAL back seat room. Many 2002 midsize SUVs are coming out with 3rd rows, but I don't know if I should wait to see how roomy they are compared to the Expe. and Sequoia. I just want some feedback about this 3-part delemma.
1. Exped. vs Sequoia...which is better and why?
2. Wait for the 2002 midsize SUVs
3. Get another minivan with dependable ease for passengers.
Safety is my main concern, while the other needs above are to be factored in also.......someone help!
Any word on any potential changes to the 2002 Sequoia. Wondering if its worth the wait to see if any bugs typical with new productions will be worked out, although I have not heard of many. Also, not at all crazy with the current color schemes on the SR5 packages - a little to Expeditioneske. Another complaint I have is that the driver side door has the protruding door handle(not on 4runner)making for inconveniences with electric windows, discomfort (forcing you to grip it when you want to lay your hand flat, etc. Also, I have trouble seeing the gauges in bright sunlight. I'm sure these may seem trivial, but before I secured an order on 2001, would like to confirm what changes will be made in 2002 given production will likely start soon. Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated.
I looked for instructions on how to remove the second row seat in the Sequoia owners manual...AND COULDN'T FIND ANY INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO DO THIS, OR TO WHAT TORQUE TO TIGHTEN THE SEAT BOLTS.
Has anyone removed their second row seats yet? How can I know the bolts are tight enough?
PS: The Automobile Magazine article also said that Toyota and Ford are fighting over how to measure ground clearance. Toyota (and Edmunds) say that the Sequoia is over 10"...Edmunds says the Expedition is only 7.5". But when I measured our 4X4 Sequoia against an Expedition 4X4 I found the Sequoia had only 9" of clearance below the rear axle while the Expedition had 8-3/4" -- about the same! What's up with this?
The MDX is by far the roomiest of the mid-size SUVs. The 2nd row is just as roomy as the SQ and Expy. Granted the 3rd row is not quite as roomy as the SQ, but it is very comporable to the Expy. The MDX 3rd row is more than adequate for the kids, and really not so bad for adults on short trips, such as going out to eat. Remarkably the cargo capacity of the MDX, with its 3rd row folded flat greatly exceeds my Expy with its 3rd row tilted forward. Dito the SQs 3rd row rolled forward.
As far as handling goes it exceeds both the larger vehicles. Faster acceleration, smaller turn radius, more nimble, etc. It should be more comfortable for you to drive than the larger SUVs. It has much better gas mileage as well.
As far as price goes the MDX is in the middle. A comporably equipped SQ Ltd costs more than the MDX and the EB Expy is cheaper.
If you have not considered the MDX, I urge you to do so.
There was a response to your initial (same) request for opinion re Expy-vs-Sequoia purchase. And that is: YOU must first decide what it is you want in the vehicle, research it as much as you can, then YOU should go out and test drive those vehicles that meets some or all of your needs. Ultimately, YOU must decide what is best for you given the totality of the data at your disposal.... Methinks, this is the best advice you could get anywhere...
"A word should be enough for the wise"
Yes, I have been on other boards (only 2) and Yes, as I am NO DUMMY, I have test driven ALL the vehicles, let me REPEAT, ALL THE VEHICLES I have discussed. I just don't have anyone in my life's circle of people who are currently shopping for a vehicle. Message board people are shopping, therefore it is a great source of discussion and information in which I feel is very INTELLIGENT to engage BECAUSE it IS $40K+ of my money!
As for decision making, OF COURSE I will make my own decision. Of course you are all strangers, and so are all the people whose opinions you read in motor magazines, and advertisements, and even the dealers YOU spoke to before YOU purchased a vehicle.
If you don't agree with the way I want to ask my questions (and I am a former news reporter, for YOUR information) then DON't responed to mine with insults!
"Words without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge; fitter to bruise that to polish."
rwelliott...Could you display the URL for the Jim Barkley Toyota please. I've tried a search and haven't been able to find them. We live in Northern Virginia and would be willing to drive to NC or SC for a long weekend to purchase one.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. Just in case, has anyone had a good experience with any Toyota Dealership in the Washington, DC metro area?
I simply wanted to convey the fact that opinions on the Sequoia board comparing this vehicle with the Ford Expedition will be biased bcos many people on this forum are current or potential Seq owners... Nothing elitist about that ! Just a warning to not rely on all that people posts on their comparisons....
Sometimes, however, it is best to simply shut up and that is what I'll do starting now...
Re: $4100 off MSRP
They show zero SEQ inventory and when I built a fairly loaded SR5 4x4 it was $1800 from MSRP.
OTOH, It was a easy site to navigate, pricing right up front, and "build your own" with no haggle pricing shown (aka 6K$ off LC's and a
few K$ off highlanders). The "build your own" app had a little bug in that it wouldn't accept mutiple major (AH/PM/Conv) pacakages at the same time. But the discount prices were there to add in by head.
cheers
Looking at a 99-00 TLC and just curious.
Thanks so much.
Ticking LCs?
That's a new one on me for sure.
