Not to mention the added in cab resonance from the FIPK tube.
Silverado? At least I took mine out when I saw it didn't help.
December and sent it back a couple of weeks ago.I called them and told them that it did not perform like their ad stated and wanted a refund.I'm sticking with the stock one
and just replace it when needed.I saw a program that says all the products out there that claim more power and mpg
are a waste of money, and if they worked the manufactors would use them.
As a trade-off, automakers might build a slight restriction into the air boxes to a) cut down on annoying intake noise, so that your new car doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner, and b) to protect the engine from sucking up water from the road, causing a hydro-lock.
But whether 2-3 HP at only an extremely high rpm is worth the price of a filter and the noise it makes is debatable.
Plus I lost performance with the K&N.So I would say K&N doesn't work for 06 Charger 3.5 V6.Its a waste of money.It
did help on my wifes Tribute,so it depends on application.
I drive a 1998 Ford Ranger with a 2.5L 4cylinder engine. I am looking into putting a performance exhaust on it. Right now the exhaust is bone stock. I'm a college student so funds are tight so i can't be spending on muchas bucks on a polished cat back or something. I was thinking just simply replacing the stock muffler and work from there.
Now I have been doing some extensive research and learned that 4cylinders need baffling and louvers to prevent them from sounding like a fartcan weedwacker. I'm looking for a deep powerful clean cut sound. Not thrashy, raspy or junk. I want a stainless muffler because here in town in Ohio, the city has alittle too much fun with the salt trucks so i stainless is for sure. Magnaflow is at the top of my list right now but i'm not convinced. I admire Flowmaster but there not stainless and that's a big drawback for me.
I've looked into hedman glasspacks. I like there glasspacks the best of all glasspacks i've seen because they have louvered baffles and 2stage packing, which leads me to thinking they will give me a good deep powerful sound. I understand glasspacks are not exactly "tuned" like Flowmaster or Magnaflow but that's ok, I accept that.
Sorry for the long post, i just wanted to be detailed as possible. IF anyone has a muffler suggestion, advice or anything I'm all ears. Thank you and great forum! -Mike-
Not sure but it may not be entirely feasible to make a 4cyl sound like a V8 no matter what's done to the exhaust...
In addition to any answers you get here check-out www.rangerpowersports.com.
Amsoil already has some available for several makes.
The AEM are aimed at the sport compact market, so are largely cone filters, not panel or ring.
I used K&N on a lot cars and admittedly did not do much logging of mileage or any performance tests per se.
I will say they always seemed to produce slightly more response at initial throttle tip-in..and of course, were generally louder. Very subjective, I know.
I use a TrueFlow in my present cars, and actually like it better. It promises the same low flow restrictions but has a much greater capacity for holding contamination (being foam based). But still has to be oiled to work.
I've read a couple of online tests that show K&N passing a lot of dirt that others contain.
On the other hand, paper clogs up much faster, reducing efficiency and affecting mileage as well as power.
It's easy to come to the conclusion the K&N and it's cousins pass more dirt. And it's easy to say, any dirt is too much. But on a real scale, I've never seen anything that says how much (or kind of..) dirt is TOO much.
And let's face. K&N has been around for over 30 years, I tend to doubt a lot of cars out there sporting their filters have badly scored cylinders and high oil consumption. But maybe it's something you will never know depending on where you live, how you drive, and how many miles on your car...
Sorry if I treaded over old discussions..
I've used K&N over some 15 years with about 4 different vehicles, and have not had one vehicle with a defective sensor.
I wonder if proper filter maintenance is not a key here.. just a thought.
The nanofibres are also being produced by Amsoil (same thing?). and AEM who specializes in sport compacts, mostly hondas.
I like the idea of no oil, and also cleanability with low restriction.
Bought a '05 Titan last year. After all the mods done to my previous truck, the only ones I've done to this one was to add nerf bars and mudguards. I'll pass on the bolt ons for any performance or mileage increases.
Anyone interested in a K&N FIPK kit for a 99-02 Silverado/GMC is welcome to have it for free only paying for shipping as I would rather dump it than having it cost me any more money. Note that I had modded it a little to fit my '02 Denali(took it out after a few days). My email address is in my profile.
I hope I'm not violating the Edmund's terms of agreement as I'm not trying to sell rather to give it away.
please, anyone heard of this or know where i can start??
thanks in advance!!
The short term solution is to fight the citation in court. Chances are the cops won't even show up because they know they can't win. Long term solution is to contact others who have been victims through car clubs or whatnot and go to the city councils to complain.
I think it would be interesting to know how widespread this problem is.
Anyway, any help with header/muffler selectionwould be great. Like if there is a kit out there with all the gasgets and stuff and if I need a Y pipe or not.
Thanks

i'm hearing a screeching noise as i'm driving when the gas pedal is in a certain position. (i know, weird) everything sounds normal when the pedal is before that certain spot or after it and i cant get it to make the noise when not driving and sitting in the driveway when i could actually look for the source.
anyone else have this issue or an idea of what i could look for? its really driving me nuts.
Induction kits, body kits, car accessories, performance Parts
i think he's full of it so I think i'm going to try putting the stock intake tube in and see if maybe its just the k&n intake tube since its made of cheap plastic. though the plastic wouldn't really account for a metalic shrieking noise.

Doesn't look too hard but you should call 'em up!
ps: fan works ok
there's more information here

Actually it is a resister insalled in Air Intake Sensor. It is installed in parallal to the thermister (connecting both terminals of thermister with this resistor) so decrease the resistance of thermister of sensor. Lowering this resistance engine assumes it as hot start. Car computer compares temp or Engine coolant and air intake temp and if difference is greater it pushes more fuel to heatup the engine (I guess). As the resistance decreases with the with air intake temperature.
I am not auto expert but somoe knowledge of electrical circuits.
My question is it good to use this "module " and is really helpful in increasing torque and fuel economy.

They work, but they dont work for long. They are connected to your IAT (inlet air temperature) sensor that connects to your ECU. Tricking the ECU into believe the engine is full of cold air, more dense and packed with oxygen. The ECU responds by telling the injectors to inject slightly more fuel into your cylinders, resulting in a slighty bigger detonation in power. However, this will only work for....ummm....3 minutes at most before it goes into closed loop.
I suppose you could always look cool by telling people you have a performance resistor in your car, sounds good :P
Hope this helps

If I were fitting an induction kit to a 1.4 16v twin cam fuel injected engine. Which induction kit would give me the best bhp increase, while keeping the filteration at a high level?
Many Thanks, Chris.
