There were Edmunds reps at the show???!!!!

    I'll never tell. ;-)
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
It depends on how you define "rep." ;)

    One ticket to autoshow: $10
Food & Drink at autoshow: $10

Getting to see the STi up-close while the general public watches (irregardless of 'representation'): priceless

    ;-)

    Yeah, it made our day.

It's funny, I go to both the Baltimore and Washington cars shows. Baltimore is often thought of as a blue-collar town, as well as Washington's sometimes forgotten step-child. However, when it comes to car shows, the Baltimore show is so much better than the Washington show.

It really is a matter of timing. The Washington show is right after Christmas, but before the Detroit or LA shows. It is the "last" of last year's shows, whereas the Baltimore show follows the Detroit and LA shows by a couple of weeks, thereby allowing some of he new vehicles that were announced at those shows to appear at Baltimore. That couldn't have been more true than in the case of this year's Baltimore show.

    DC gets last year's left-overs.

Baltimore at least gets a few of the new debuts from Detriot, just a few weeks later. They had lots of cars I had not seen before, and that's great considering I'd been to the NY Auto Show in April of last year.

Still, I was bummed that they did not show the new Quest or Sienna, but then again we did see the F150 and Titan.

The only new car at the DC show (of any interest to me) was the Honda Element and 4Runner V6. There may have been a few other new models, but if there were, they were models dues shortly for release, as was the case with the Element and 4Runner V6.

Not so for Baltimore. Besides what you mentioned, there were the Subies, Chevy Malabu and cladding-free Avalanche, new Caddys, Maxima, GMC XUV, '04 Grand Cherokee, FX45 Infiniti, as well as a few others that currently escape my memory.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Element had arrived in dealers by then, no? So DC had almost nothing new to offer.

Baltimore also had the Endeavor and the New Beetle Cabrio. That's a good dozen or more debuts for the Mid-Atlantic region.

Plus there were some models that were open for the first time, so you could crawl inside.

Just wanted to thank Hypov for helping put in my dad's WRX stereo for the '97 Legacy L. Also thanks for the wood trim pieces from Al-Gator :)

Here are some pics from the installfest...

Great Auto-x despite the cold, rainy conditions on sunday @ giant's stadium.

Hypov's wagon did great and I pulled in times faster than a lot of the other WRXs with the AT in his wagon!

His wheels are WRX wheels. Maybe you are seeing a pic of a different car?

This one. The wheels look dark from this angle.

I thought he had blue for some reason. At first I was thinking, "Wow, Dave's really moving on his mods". :-)

    Nah...
Probably won't. At least not for a while. :)

Auto-X, as usual, at the bottom of the pack. :D Should get better as the season move along. Getting a feel of the car, and (especially) rebuilding my confidence. Got to rid that roll jitters everytime the rear kicks out.

I wish it was my car...unfortunately, I am still here in the hinterlands of Florida; however, you can take those fog light covers and send them to me :.)

I realize it's a couple of weeks away, but when are you folks planning on going to the Show this year? Day, or evening?

    Mark
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Did we already decide? I think we discussed this a while back. I just wanted any weekday, that's fine with me.

I'm going April 18th during the day, figured the DC folks can train it up and we can all meet up. Afterward I'm going to Limerock :)

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
18th? Seems like I saw some posts on here suggesting the 25th. I'll try to make one or the other.

I was hoping for Friday 4/25. I will be in and out of town traveling the days prior. If this works for everyone, great. If not I will make the trek solo, or take a pass this year.

I don't want to hold anyone up if you want to go earlier.

Whatever the majority wants. Juice (and any other Marylanders) are you in?

I'm off of work already so it's easier for me personally.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
18 or 25 works for me. So it's a coin toss. If we get one more person that can only go on one of those days, we'll go with the majority, I guess.

Actually, I just noticed that the 18th is Good Friday - which means I am off and can go during the day, without losing a day!

Since quite a few people have off work on 4/18 (Good Friday), won't it be extra crowded?

As an aside, one of these days I'll introduce myself in MTM.

    DaveM
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Actually, it should be fairly empty on Good Friday since more people are leaving the city.

A co-worker went last year on Good Friday at 4 p.m. and said the crowds were very light.

I'll be in SC that day.

You're probably right. So, now back to minding my own business.

Actually, I was thinking about joining up with the crew and going to the show. I live west of Philly. I don't want to drive and I think Amtrak is like $80 RT. I could take SEPTA & NJT; not sure how much that would be but of course it probably takes a day and a half going that route.

Are any PA, DE, MD or S. Jersey members driving?
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
If that suites everyone. Any other folks from the MD area interested (Hutch, Loosh, Mike S., Dave Sattler, Mike Donnelly)?

If we get several, maybe do a R O A D T R I P. We could all meet up at that Park-'n-Ride that Hutch suggested when we went to Philly a couple of years ago. I don't mind driving if several share driving duties. It's a very long and tiring drive to do by yourself, after spending much of the day at the show. I know because I've done it before.

I gotta double-check on the 18th. I think my daughter may be home from college. I need to get verification from she (who must be obeyed) first.

I'll join you, Bob, driving or train, whichever.

could be a problem for me. My daughter will be driving back to college on Easter. She has classes Monday, and it's an all-day drive for her. So that means we may have our "big" dinner on Good Friday instead. I'll keep you posted.

I actually met up with Ed (lark6) from SE PA for lunch yesterday. I believe he drove to somewhere in South Jersey and picked up an express NJ Transit train to Manhattan that took 1 hour.

Oh, he was in NY on business and didn't come all this way for lunch. :)

    -Dennis
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Someone should put up a poll. Oh wait, wrong board.

    -Dennis
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
I took NJTransit into NYC yesterday, made an appearance at a trade show and met Dennis for lunch. I picked up a 7:08am express train from Hamilton, NJ into NY Penn Station.

FWIW, I live 35 miles NNE of Philadelphia.

And yeah, I am cross-shopping the Forester XT and WRX wagon and really disappointed there's no AWP in the latter...oops, again wrong board. ;-)

I'll probably head up with Bob, but again, either day is fine.

Though I don't want to split up the Crew, there are certain advantages to going on different days. We get a full report from the 1st group, and then follow-up with things we missed with the 2nd group.

Last year I went up early with Bob, but paisan and others went a few days later and picked up on some major items we overlooked. That was key, actually.

So, no harm done if we cover both days. Doesn't seem like anyone will have to go alone, FWIW.

I've been given the go-ahead, so if that's the day everyone wants to go, I'm good.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    OK, then. 18th.

For those that cannot go, please do go ahead and attend on the 25th, like I said we always miss some things.

Last year was hilarious, paisan went "on assignment" and caught everything we missed. :-)

    Bob-
I asked SoA yesterday, and their Marketing People advised today that it won't be there.

Hello Marketing People Geneva is only Switzerland.
New York... New York is the Capital of the World.
    Show it to the World.

"Hello Marketing People Geneva is only Switzerland.
New York... New York is the Capital of the World."

An English co-worker asked me why the heck Subaru unveiled it in Geneva. I dunno ...

    -Dennis
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Because it's viewed as the design capital of the world, at least among car shows. I can understand why they did that.

However, not bringing it over to NY, in their biggest market (USA), given they're gauging reactions to it, is unexplicable. Maybe it was logistics or something.
