I wish your daughter speedy recovery, and best of luck. I wonder if that person who cut them off on the road, realizes what he/she has done.

It is wonderful to have the support of friends like you. It was amazing to see the number of people who came to say goodbye to my mom. The place was simply packed for two days. She was loved dearly. It has given me a wake up call to try and do more for others, get closer to my family and understand what others might be going through. Again, thanks for your thoughts. It is truly appreciated.

    Greg

P.S. Juice - sorry I wasn't able to get the Patti letter out in time.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's OK, we actually ended up with *twenty* letters in support of Patti's presence here. I'm impressed! Well beyond my original goal of a dozen, even my revised optimistic goal of 16.

They went out in a Priority Mail package and should arrive Saturday or Monday at the latest. We sent copies to a VP and a Senior VP, so I trust it'll attract the attention we want.

    The package included letters from:

    AJ Teixeira
    Bob Holland
    Jim Pearson
    Ed Johnson
    Craig Hunter
    Robert Woolston
    Dennis McClellan
    Brian Bear
    Don Braverman
    Ken Suzuki
    Kate Gordeeva
    Pat McCartney
    Martin Korn
    Mark Rothberger
    Frank Patton
    Brenda Beck
    Ronald Skleney
    Steve Herschbein
    Mike Torricelli
    Serge Small

Rather unbelievably, no Daves are on that list!? LOL

I included a note from me to call me, so I'll either here from them, or we'll here from Patti. Hopefully the latter!

Twenty! Good job, Crew! And, thanks to juice for doing the work to support this.

Who did the letters go out to? Perhaps we should invite that individual to participate in the Subaru Crew to meet some of us on-line. That would also give a chance for some who couldn't get the letters out in time to chime in as well.

I can't wait to see what the response is!

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'll use their first names only, so they don't get spammed (you can derive a Subaru e-mail address quite easiy).

Bob met one of them, Keith, and has had some dialogue with him via e-mail. He's "just" a VP, so we went even higher up.

We found an Executive VP, Fred, who is more directly managing Patti's group, and sent the 2nd copy to him.

I don't think 20 letters can just be ignored, so I'm sure we'll hear at least something. Either a "welcome back, heeeeere's Patti" or a full explanantion as to why she cannot participate.

So for now we await some kind of response.

From a close friend of mine...

On the way into the office this AM, I was passing a Silver Forester, and after I had gone around it, I noticed a hood scoop on the front. “Huh,” I says to myself “ I thought that the hood scoop was only on the turbos for cooling the intercoolers.” So I slow down and let him pass me… New Jersey plates, and clear as day, the badge said Forester XT. Too cool…
    Cheers

I called and he said he could not keep up with the guy! :-) This in his Volvo 2.3LPT!

if they were manufacturer license tags, from Cherry Hill?

We should be seeing them at the dealers any time now. Someone at nasioc had pictures on an XT on a dealer's lot in Florida (of all places!).

  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Sweet! It seems a bit early for a customer to be driving one -- perhaps it was an SOA employee or a car mag taking one out on a test spin. Speaking of which, does anyone know if the XT will get press coverage?

  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
I saw a pretty little silve WRX wagon this morning on my way to work ... every so often the driver would put a MOVE on it and speed up, but every time (3 that I witnessed) the car would backfire about 3 times ... !!! that's not 'normal' is it?
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
a Big exhaust? Generally a backfire is going to be related to not enough back-pressure if his exhaust is too big it could do that or perhaps he has some kind of computer controlling the car, which can also cause backfires as well.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'm sure the XT will get coverage. They may wait until the Saturn Vue Redline is out, it's the only thing for even twice that price that could hope to compare.

Brenda: bet he had a coffee can exhaust. ;-)

    Chat starts any minute...

What in the h-e-double-toothpicks is going on with the chat? There are at least 5 chat rooms open under Subaru Crew. The moderator is chatting with juice and Pat, Brenda and I are off in a room by ourselves!?!

Wow, we had 8 chat rooms, I was a clone, and we had a lot of trouble keeping everyone together.

Still, it was fun and reminded me of the long overdue membership drive for the OCD club. So here goes.

Have you washed your car on consecutive days? Do you have a car duster? Two, one for inside, one for outside?

Do you measure fender height (note: brilliant idea I cannot claim credit for) to see if your suspension is even?

Do you check the oil more often than you check the fuel gauge? Can you tell if your tires are off by 1 psi?

Is your engine clean enough to eat off of, though you'd never consider getting those polished heads dirty?

Well, then, WE WANT YOU...for the OCD club.

Benefits include endless ideas to obsess over, idea shared with and by other members. You can plea insanity to ignored significant others, and they'll agree! You may lose sleep, but hey! More time to wax the inner side of your alloys rims!

Call now, we're handing out free tape measure to the first ten callers that promise to measure tire diameters at least weekly!

If you wax your wheels, both sides, then you are welcome in the OCD club.

I finally remember the right time, only to log in and see "subaru crew chat 3" and only me in the list, so I go out and come in again several times ... getting the same message each time ... about the fourth time I got "subaru chat 4" a couple times, then "subaru chat 5" .. somewhere in there I "picked up" Pat and Ed and could see a "ghost" mod_bob along the way .... finally just gave up!!!
  • hammersleyhammersley Member Posts: 684
    about missing the chat!

Reminds me of the old Firesign Theatre line:
"How can you be two places at once, when you're really nowhere at all?"

Besides which, I'm also at work (hi Mike!). I can get through the firewall, but got busy getting dinner going instead. Sigh.

    Cheers!

I decided to try using the internet to get a new car this time. My research has gone well and I have decided (and my wife) on a Subaru Forester. I have been reading the postings here and am confused/concerned on how to get the best price. I found 2 models available in the area and asked for quotes via email. Only 3 dealers responded with quotes (all 3 in different cities) and the quotes are all the same .. not what I expected. The only web site that I could get a quote from was CARSDIRECT.COM without getting sent right back to the same dealer internet manager. One quote is $500 difference and the other is $350 difference. I sent an email to the nearest dealer and asked if he could match either price but got no further response. Is this what you are saying is not worth negotiating (win the battle..lose the war)? Any advice on next step?

subearu and I were stuck in Chat room #8, but he ran as soon as he saw me. LOL!

hammersly: Actually, Bob and I were feeling more like this quote from Firesign, "We're all bozos on this bus."

As Bob mentioned earlier, it looked like the settings were somehow miscombobulated (no...Bob had nothing to do with it) and the room didn't recognize when people were coming and going. So when someone entered chat, it created a whole new room. Definitely weird. Our tech will be taking a look at it asap.

I told Karen I was going to open another door in hopes of rebooting the chatroom matrix...

Anyone near Colorado help out our new friend?

FWIW, the 2004s are around the corner, so you should be able to get invoice price minus whatever regional incentives apply in Colorado. Thing is, demand is higher there due to the climate, so you might not do quite that well.

Another option, if you can wait, is the VIP program. Join the IMBA or ACA, and 6 months later you qualify for the VIP program, which gets you invoice prices minus incentives with absolutely zero haggling.

Good luck. I love my '98 Forester.

    -juice
  • Are you a Costco member, Greg? They "may" have a no-haggle price lower than the ones you're looking at, but you'll have to contact Costco first to find out. If you're a member, go to www.costco.com | Services |Auto Sales.

Here are some other web-based car purchase services:
    1. http://www.invoicedealers.com
    2. http://www.autoweb.com
    3. http://www.stoneage.com
    4. http://autos.msn.com/?src=autolink

If the Internet managers and Costco program don't work out, you may need to do it the old fashion way. Pick the exact vehicle you want including options, price it out using Edmunds' resources and decide what you're willing to pay (don't forget to figure in rebates/incentives/hold back), and walk into a dealer with a set price in mind. Negotiate away. I guarantee that the dealers will pay more attention to you if you're physically on their lot, and given how soft auto sales have been, will work with you on the price.

    Greg,

Don't give up on the rest of the dealers that didn't respond. I believe someone here got the best offer from a dealer that was late to the game.

Try faxing your request for prices to the rest of the dealers. Dealers get tons of e-mail, you'll get more attention using a fax letter.

Are you contacting the dealer in Pueblo and the ones as far north as Boulder-Loveland-Ft. Collins?

I got my July issue of C&D today, about 1 week earlier than normal. *shrug*

Page 25: New Legacy pics and blurbs..."to go on sale in the U.S. by late spring 2004...and yes, it too gets a turbocharger...2.5-liter flat-four...280-plus hp...the 3.0-liter flat-six...upgraded 35hp to 247...new Legacy will offer five-speed automatic and manual transmissions...expect prices to start at $20k and turn up to, perhaps, $35k."

Bummer. And I was really hoping for some quickie review on the Forester XT -- at least a "First Drive" kind of write up.

I guess the media doesn't think it's much of a change. On the bright side, that'll mean that the Forester XT will be an even more stealth vehicle.
