March '99? I don't recall if I had another user name before that, maybe I did. I bought my Forester in August 1998, and I think I joined right after that, so probably.

One thing is that I joined Edmunds and started posting right away. Many are lurkers for a while first. I dove right in!

Subaru Crew was founded, officially, on April 3, 2000. First post was from Bonnie Rick of Edmunds, 2nd was mine, 3rd was Mike Smith. We suggested to them that we wanted a central place for Subaru fans to gather, they liked it.

They asked for volunteers to head the club, and when I offered, they actually said they were hoping I would volunteer. I came up with the name "Subaru Crew" because I felt it was catchy, and we called ourselves "Crew Chiefs" in line with the same thinking.

Cougar Support Group was actually the first such club, we were 2nd. But ours was more successful by far, we have the longest running chat, and still have a Community Page, and of course we're much more active.

    The Crew rules! :-)

..and we all had a chuckle that, yea no kidding, if you had a Cougar you NEEDED a support group! Our name was so much better. And then remember when it was just those 2 forums, so I would go over there and see what was going on. Here we'd be talking about how to get STi parts and swapping stories. Then I'd go over there and read 10 posts like "Just got done washing my kitty!!!!11!" Yikes.

    hee hee.

I'll give 'em credit for the idea of creating a community. They should have created one for all the cars that share that engine, maybe, and included Contour owners. If so it might have thrived more.

We said any and all Subaru, new or old.

has spanned a few userid's as vehicles and/or jobs changed. I should go to something universal to give a better idea of my citizenship. There may be another job change in just a few days and if so I'll probably change then.

I joined before I owned a Subaru and like juice I started posting and asking all sorts of questions right from the start, at the time I joined I was researching what I was going to replace my Accord wagon with.

I had pretty much narrowed it to a Passat wagon, Volvo V70, or Subaru either outback or GT.

Have never regretted buying the Titan.

      Cheers Pat.

Do I get credit for the four years I had a Forester and hung out on the Vmag Subaru board?

if they could list the number of posts made too.

Hey, Edmunds should start a Letterman-like "Top 10" list of those with the most posts and/or visits! :)

You'd have to factor in the usefullness of the content, or the Mazda boys would take all 10 spots. They're boards are very active, with lots of short posts.

At one time we could access the number of posts we made, don't remember how but something sticks in my mind that we could.

     Cheers Pat.

We asked them and the hosts told us, I think.

I was thinking about you guys yesterday. Wish Susan luck. My daughter has been growing her hair to donate. Decided this and has been working on it for a long time all on her own. She's 10!

I guess I am one of the babies of the group, having officially joined in Feb, 01 after lurking for 6 months or so.

before I ran out of letters. I thought about using Tex or TX but I threw out Tex since I don't like that nickname for Texans and no caps in the name made the TX less obvious.

I'm thinking about houstonsales if it isn't already taken since it works for any line of cars. That's if my pending change happens, otherwise it will remain as is.

KarenS told us how many posts we had. Please don't flood her with requests for your count though, she'll kill me for mentioning it! :D

I have something like 3200 posts over at MPVClub (I'm an admin over there), making me 3rd in the top 10.

I put a request in over here for the post count and not the login/visit count: subearu "Our Software! Your Questions Answered..." Jan 23, 2004 10:43am

FYI - It seems that my e-mail at Subaru has been under "attack" for the past few days with all kinds of nasty things. So...if you need to reach me and we haven't communicated directly in the past, please go through Subaru.com or our 800 number. I won't be opening any e-mails from names I don't have already. It's pretty sad that this happened. I'm not sure if it's someone here (I kind of doubt it), but our IT group is going to be screening and blocking some that are coming in. Thanks.

you could turn off the email visual in your profile, at least then it'd be hidden to those who don't already have it. if someone needs to contact you, they can call or post here.

Sad to hear that in spite of all you do there are still some nasties around, I don't think for a minute it would be any of the regulars here.

In the past month or so there were a couple of rabble rousers who have since seem to have disappeared, hope the bit of trouble blows over quickly.

      Cheers Pat.

we have a good firewall. However, one "thing" that I received this week was very upsetting. I won't let the few influence me more than the many good folks out there.

that kind of stuff, Patti. We realize that your position puts you at risk, in a way.

Perhaps the sender will eventually grow up, especially once he realizes he (or she) is just wasting time.

Will always be the few disaffected who will only be too happy to take advantage of any situation for their own personal gratification.

They are usually cowardly types who will hide behind anonymous phone calls letters and E-mails,or by making flying visits to these boards in order to stir up trouble that way.

It is easy to say ignore it, and that is the only way to handle it, unless of course you have the opportunity of a personal meeting and give them a good swat up the side of the head, but it is hard to ignore when the attack is of a personal nature.

      Cheers Pat.

Susan again is doing well after chemo#2; no nausea and only 4 to go!
Well, Cavallino was great as usual...lots of beautiful Ferraris dating back to 1947, 3 old Alfas from the 30's, 6 Enzos, 1 yellow 330P4(value around $8 million, 2 250GTOs(also around $8 million each). This is held on the front green of the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach. We got Derek Bell's autograph on a poster which contains Jusitn Bell, Dominck Dobson, and Barry Meguiar(See Below), Michael's Ferrari hat, and my WRX hat (both hats are now offiically retired!). Best of all, Michael got interviewed by Barry Meguiar (yes that one from the car care products) for the Speed show Car Crazy. We dont know if his segment will make it past "the cutting room floor"(electronically speaking) but in the interview prior with someone named Chris Parr, Michael and I were in the background, so either way, we should get our 2 seconds of fame. They said they would call us when the show airs; will let all of you know when; we will tape it of course.

    Serge-
Glad to hear that everything is going well for Susan. More well wishes are sent her way.

I can definitely empathize with what you are going through. My wife recently went for an exam because she found something. The Doctors are pretty sure it is benign, but she goes for the biopsy tomorrow to make sure. We're keeping our fingers crossed in the mean time.
It's kind of weird, and alarming, the number of people that are being diagnosed with this problem recently. Between the people on this board, and friends and family it is a rather large amount. The good news is that there have been huge advancements in the last 20 years or so.

It looks like I signed up just about 4 years ago. I lurked for a while doing research on the vehicles I was considering (Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Pathfinder, Outback Wagon or Forester). I remember getting advice from Juice, Bob, and Mike on the different vehicles; as a matter of fact I bought my OB with Mike's help! I even received emails from Juice on what to look for in the Forester before I officially became a crew member. All this helped me to decide on my OB; and I've been happy ever since. This board is a definite benefit for anyone looking into a Subaru, and I'm happy to be a member.

Mark: Hope it turns out well, keep us posted.

I joined in June 2000, which must have been right before I got my first Subaru. I was shopping for a Forester and ended up in an Outback. I remember getting advice from Juice and Bob, and a couple others. Been coming back ever since, with a few 1-2 month absences. The crew is probably partly responsible for me buying three other Subarus since that first one.

We got some snow and ice overnight, and it gave me a chance to appreciate the Outback when I went out for bagels this morning. I was supposed to go skiing today and tomorrow, but the forecast is for a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain on the mountain and I decided to punt. I used to have to ski in conditions like that (and rain) all the time when I did ski patrol, but it's nice to stay home for a change!

Wow, I guess I don't always keep track of what I've said, but I'm glad I was able to help "recruit" more Crew members.

It's gotten kind of quiet, we're in that period of time between the Legacy intro and the Outback intro, I guess.

Nice amount of snow last night, had about 6" or so to shovel away. Took a full hour with my big/wide driveway. Made it to work OK, one of the few people here...
