    ...and congrats fibber2/Steve!

Here's an interesting auto trivia question. Does anyone know who holds the patent for the automobile in the United States? AND, what year was the patent granted?
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
...can beat me to the punch...here's the answer. :-)

Sure..... Just add a 'Mr. Fusion' to supply the 1.1 gigawatts of power (or something like that, quoted from "Back to the Future"), and off you go!
Your ion drive engine will cook right along.

Dave: We will have to get Craig Hunter (our resident NASA rocket scientist) to answer that one.

in the country that's down here but that's as close to a patent as I have. Not enough time or money to get things out of the idea stage.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I worked in NIH's patent office for a while, documenting a program they used.

My boss was a car guy, a radical Mustang fan, owned several new and classic. It was a cool (but short-term) assignment.

Remember when the French sued to get royalties on that AIDS test NIH developed? I was there the day the Americans won that law suit.

    Where are the Daves?

Where's Dave Zartman? Prolly took his Outback off road and got lost? :o)

I forget the other Dave's last name, the one with the Outback hauling that 4Runner out of the mud?

And what about the Dave that owned the JDM Forester turbo well before we had one here?

Now we know why swampy doesn't use many words in his posts. Did anybody actually try reading that patent? Ouch! My brain hurts and I only read a few lines! ;-)

Yes, there are some very large Knowledge's on the Subaru Crew!

My brain started to swell up so I had to stop...

Though I do have several patents:

    * Procrastinating about procrastinating: don't leave for tomorrow what you can leave for the day after tomorrow
    * I've patented the 2 hour lunch break
    * Laziness: I outsource the decision to outsource
    * Collectively, our OCD club holds several patents on waxing several surfaces that are never visible

and yes that is but a summary of the patent which is thousands of pages long. so i am worded out and unless legally forced too, love to keep it short and fun

I see the perfect use for an ion cannon in an automobile. Set it up so that if somebody cuts you off and then stops right in front of you then with one push of a button your ion cannon etches "I'm an @sshole" on their trunk.
Given our 'IN', I'm hoping Subies get it first.
  • nygregnygreg Member Posts: 1,936
but unfortunately when you strike the ion plasma the car will thrust backwards and stike the Saturn Ion following you smashing its plastic panels. You will then be forced to sue (isn't the car behind you always wrong?) because you scratched your new Gary Fisher bike on the Yakima rack because your roof is filled with kayaks and your trunk will LLBean camping gear.

Looks like I may be visiting friends of yours on my favorite subject very soon out in San Jose. OK, the truth - I only agreed to go because I want to go shopping at Fry's across the street, but don't tell your crew that!!

    G'day

I have the sad patent story of a chicken farmer friend who hit on the perfect fisherman tool - a line meter that would attach to a reel and tell how far a fish had run, preventing the fisherman losing the whole line. It would be particulaarly appeaing to sports fishermen.

He developed the idea to working model, lodged the patent and started productinising.

Hard luck that a Japanese fisherman came up with the same idea and lodged his patent on the same day - unfortunately a little earlier.

    Back to the chicken farm.

    Cheers

Tentative plans are to arrive in San Jose around noon on Monday, 5/17 and fly out either Wednesday evening or eary Thursday morning for Portland, then home on Sunday. Quickie eval trip to two suppliers. More fibbing for me!

Maybe we can grab dinner one night? Ken & Kate as well? I have to tell you - dinner with you guys was one of the highlights of my November trip out West. Now if I could only drag Greg out with me, but he works on another tool set.

Prolly at the dealer, or out driving.

They always disappear for a day or two when they get a turbo.

I'm not jealous. Nah. Not one bit. I'm totally fine. Never mind the fact that the founder of this club now probably owns the last remaining Forester that can't outrun a Porsche Cayenne S.

    Bitter? Me? Noooooo.

OK, I give up. I need therapy. Where's Ross?

about Mike. With his new status, he's had to let go of his 5 year dream of a Legacy turbo wagon, just as the dream can finally be a reality! I don't think there's any way out of his dw buying an A4 and handing off the GT wagon to him.

Reading the post from last night I had visions of him standing with his face pressed up against the dealer's window at 7 am today. You know with that forlorn look of the kid who has to practise violin while his frineds are out playing.
Sure he's gonna be able to stay off boost for 1000 miles. Attention SOA void the warranty now, if he can't control himself waiting for it, what's the chance of an easy break-in? LOL
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'm surprised the didn't bring bolt cutters and break into the dealer last night to verify the VIN.

6 weeks is a looong wait.

I caught a hammerhead question JUST as I closed the chat room tonight... YES... the chat room has ALWAYS opened 15 minutes early. The Crew just seems to be VERY punctual and doesn't take advatage of the bonus time!

    Set an alarm next week!!!

I am not sure which was more entertaining - the conversation on the left, or the continual name changing on the right!
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
I couldn't even get to first base last night. I had a ton of office work to do and was planning to pop over to the chat in between. But we had a server down, and I couldn't go anywhere. So nothing got accomplished.

Beth's preliminary report came back clean. They say they always do a double check with another lab on lymph issues, but they don't expect the decision to be overturned! Dodged another of life's bullets....

Actaully, today we go for pre-screening, and Wed is the outpatient procedure. Hopefully that will be the end of that.

So, how about a small fusion generator to fit in the WRX for the ion cannon?
Oooo the fusion generator could double for a hybrid :D
