Actually with the elevation change, the Skyline Drive climate will probably still be in early spring.

I think Luray Caverns is a must see, but my wife was bored.... Skyline is fun to drive.

Everyone owes it to themselves to visit Carlsbad once in their lifetime. Yes it's out of the way in the middle of nowhere but well worth it.

I still remember it from a trip there when I was a kid about 40 years ago. I want to go again, maybe with grandkids in another decade or more.

I see in your profile that you are driving a Mitsu. Oh no!!! Tell me it isn't so!! First we lose you as a Subaru salesperson and now this? How are we going to woo you back with us?? So tell me, when you're selling one of the "others" are you tempted to talk about Subaru's?

For some reason I had the Smokies in my mind. Yeah, less bugs there. :-)

A co-worker just bought a Saturn Vue and I was surprised to discover that it had a manual transmission. Not being very familiar with the Vue, I decided to check Edmunds and learned that the MT is only available with the puny engine. It's odd how manufacturer's use MTs, they are most often found in performance type vehicles but are also used in base models to achieve the lowest possible sticker price which can then be used in advertising. This is of course a misleading tactic since the vast majority of buyers will want an automatic but the lower "false" price gets them in the dealer's door. Another advantage of offering a MT with a base model is to get the most oomph out of a weak engine. So you can find MTs at either end of the performance spectrum but seldom will you see them in mainstream vehicles.

Back to the Vue, the following are excerpts from the Edmunds’ review:

“the Vue is easily the fastest of the mini-utes for 2004” and “top-notch crash test scores”

Excuse me? Did the Edmunds' reviewer bother to compare the 0-60 times or crash test scores with the Forester?

Well the mt in the low line RAV 4 gives it the best gas mileage for any SUV. That's another common reason for putting the rare mt in a car--so it ranks the highest in class in EPA numbers. The VUE would be awesome with a manual and the 6. After all the 6 is a Honda and with a sweet shifting Honda mt the car would be worthwhile. But what can we say, you can't get a mt with Honda's 6 on anything other thean the Accord coupe.

Frank, I presume the Vue V6 was reviewed well before the Forester XT was available and the comments were appropriate (acceleration at least) at the time.

I'm not so sure about that. I thought the Vue didn't get the Honda 3.5L V6 until last summer.

and I do talk about them along with my current product. They are my positive example for people, along with the not so positives from my experience with other lines. I strongly believe in driving what you sell although this will be my last vehicle change for a while. When it's time to change again I hope to be finished with paralegal studies and get the STi that I want.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Bruce: true, but Toyota cheated. That best mileage is for the FWD RAV4 (technically shouldn't that be called a RAV2?).

The Forester is just as efficient when you compare AWD to AWD.

no pics today, will get some tomorrow when it's sunny!

    It's an ASI 840 FF from http://americansunroofsinalfa.com/moonroof.html

It's programmable for the open positions and has the pinch protection. Vent mode (not available on the OEM Forester moonroof ;-) and a illuminated switch. The roof closes automatically (can be overridden) when the ignition is turned off.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Should look good. Will that be the first XT MT5 with a moonroof in the Crew? Think so...

Frank was the first with leather on an MT5.

Of course the 2005s might offer both from the factory, we'll see.

a 'first' on probably the last '04 purchased by the crew too.

Juice, it looks like it's the next model up on the one you have on your Legacy. Looks great, way better "OEM" looking than the Webasto spoiler one I had on my Stratus.

a new poster sharing their love of the WRX with us, see? They were also very complimentary towards me and say that I'm one of the reasons they love Subaru. It was a nice, feel good moment. The poster (midfieldlax) was also commenting on how late I work. Then, they disappeared. Soon after, I had to leave the boards to pick up my son. I come home and my daughter is having a good laugh. You see, I did not bring her to an activity with her friends because I was going to do the chat. She had been grumbling about my working and not paying attention to her. Guess who "midfieldlax" was? It was her - sitting next to me on our home PC! Her screen name referred to her lacrosse position. Uggghhh - talk about feeling like an idiot. She had a good chuckle at my expense! I guess I learned not to try to ignore her for an hour! I thought you all would get a kick out of that so I had to share it.

Have a great weekend! I'm going to play with my girl for a bit!

Luckily my boys are a little young for that. AND they're boys - nowhere near as well developped in the cunning department as girls are. Still, it's a good reminder to the rest of us about where our time and attention should be spent. I'm clean - just put the boys to bed.

Just wanted to take a sec and say Thanks for the well wishes. Everything went well on Wed, although it was a long day. Doctors should be held responsible for schedules.
Since then there has been a very long "honey do" list. Matter of fact I got back a short time ago from Lowes with 3 new doors to be installed this weekend. I have to say that driving with 80" long doors inside the wagon is not too comfortable. My knees were hitting the dash every time I had to shift. Thankfully it was not too far to get home.

Congrats Brian on finally getting your new baby, lots of luck keeping it clean:-)

Welcome back Hutch, hang in there things will get better.

Patti, at least you did not strangle her for setting you up:-)

as well as a few profile shots too. Freshly AIO'd (again) to remove the 'attractant' leftover by the Mr. Clean Autodry.

    Brian,

    Nicely done!
BTW, what's the "attractant" you write about?

    Ken
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I'm calling the 'attractant' (at a loss for what else to call it) the thing that made my Forester 'negatively charged', attracting every minute piece of lint/dust, including from my California car duster. I know that duster is not 'broken' as I can proceed to use in on our MPV (not Mr. Clean'd) and leave no dust/lint. The MPV is dark metallic blue (pic in profile), so it's not a color thing.

After plowing thru hundreds of messages in MTM alone (still got a bunch to go on the other boards), I finally have some time to write a bit. Susan finished with chemo a while back and her hair is growing back slowly but surely...think Annie Lennow with salt and pepper hair...I call her Fuzzy Wuzzy and rub her head....Dina gets jealous!

Still no full-time position but I am hopeful...I was recently made one of the pool subs at Westglades; I'm here everyday, and this week I'm teaching Holocaust education the the 6th graders. I passed my High School Social Sciences exam so I am now certfied for both Middle and High schools. The schools in Broward County are starting to post their requirements for next year and I've sent away a bunch of reusmes and documentation; there is a school job fair on the 28th, but I hope to have a position before then.

We are getting ready to take Michael to camp at the end of June and will be in Washington from June 23rd thru the 27th, so I hope some f us can get together for dinner one evening. We will be at the Homewood Suites on Massachussetts Ave downtown.
Then we are off to see Mom in Jersey and then with frineds in Suffern. We'll be doing some sightseeing. Should be a good trip.

To all those who recently went thru medical stuff, we hope all went well and recoveries on on the way; to all who got new Subies, good luck with them; lucky you guys are all OCD...

    SPEAK TO Y'ALL SOON

Where'd you guys disappear to? We're all dying to hear your report from this past weekend (OK, I may be speaking for myself on that one).

Did Subaru decide to throw you in the dungeon? Did you get lost in the Balagio?

Hope you guys had a fun trip!

    Cheers!

I got a message from Juice tonight. They are on their way home - but they won't be in until very late EDT. It seems like they had fun - and even some special access to the dealer meeting. They seem stoked to post. It sounds like they did an incredible job for us (the Edmunds family) and look forward to some great post, photo's and more......

I was just thinking about you and Susan. I'm so glad that the chemo is behind her. Give her a fuzzy wuzzy rub for me? Please keep us informed. When you come through NJ, let me know? Maybe we can meet up for a bit if I can free myself up?

Thanks for posting - and love to Michael too!

Okay, I'm getting ready to jump from the fence. I called my local dealer and if I place an order for a Leg GT wagon by the end of next week, they will be able to get me a vehicle by early July.

Any reason why I should avoid a 1st allocation vehicle?

my very first clients as a lawyer, 24 years ago, were an Italian family from the NE suburbs of Detroit. The father took the youngest son to Vegas for his 18th birthday. They were at the tables in Caesers Palace...Dad went to the bathroom and his body was found three days later in the desert, in his pajamas. Do bob and juice owe the SoA folks any money?????

Swampy..you got any inside connections in Vegas...subaru owners, that is?

I dont know why we're so anxious - Bob and Juice cant tell us anything, anyway:" What happens in Vegas...Stays in Vegas!"

Like you, I would be inclined to jump right off the fence and onto the boat! If there are first model year issues, they likely won't be fixed for several months, or even the next model year. I bought a 2000 Outback late in the 2000 model year, and it still had all the known issues for that run. They fixed most of the bugs on the 01 models that came down the line a month later (had I known better, I would have waited for an 01 and gotten LSD and the cold weather package as standard).

Since the new Legacy has been on sale elsewhere for the last year, I would expect any major bugs to be worked out. Any remaining issues would probably be unique to the US version and/or US assembly line.

So, I would not expect the first allocation of cars to be any worse than what you can get a few months from now. Whether that's good or bad, who knows!

I'm going to look at a 2.5i Ltd as soon as I can. If the car compares favorably to an Accord EX, I'll probably get one for my wife as soon as the prices settle out. Fitzmall.com already has decent prices, so hopefully my local dealer will catch up soon.

you shouldn't be worried about the 1st batches to the U.S., I think you'll be fine. Be the first Crew member with a new one!

Good points. I guess there really wouldn't be any major change until MY06 -- and I can't wait that long!

I was just wondering if there might be any subtle differences between 1st and 2nd batches.

3 days in Sunnyvale, then 3 in Portland before returning home. I was going to hook up with our Bay Area crew (Ken, Jim & Kate) as I did in November, but we are just cramming in too much in too short a time to break free. And anyhow, Ken skipped town and went to Colorado within hours of my arrival (was he trying to tell me something??).

    Greg: David Lee says 'hi'.

Mark: Great News!!!! Fingers crossed for the path results.

Patti: Wonderful story! Hate to bug you, but any schedule yet? Airfare jumped in the week that I waited.

We're back Ian! Just last night, 2:30am at home, I'm pooped!
