thanks!
I just sent this to Patti. Maybe SOA will have a change of heart on her position once they see this.
Bob (crossing fingers and toes)
I drove to work yesterday and was fine, leaving plenty of room in front to stop.
Swelling is down but I still wear a brace they gave me to prevent re-injury.

Glad to hear the ankle is coming along so well. I would still take it easy - you do not need to have that messed up any further than it already is.
Mark
Do I have to go over there and tell you with my hand? Uh.. .um.... okay.. sorry... that was the Puerto Rican in me.... still traumatized from my mom... :-p

I sprained my left ankle on the 4th playing volleyball (although for me it's like the 8th time). Elevation, anti-inflammatories, and ice immediately controlled the swelling and I was walking and driving the next day (with a limp). I am wearing an aircast though (I'm assuming that's what you have- they're great, they give you stability and actually help in the healing process) Just don't cheat and not wear it- you are more likely to re-sprain your ankle until you regain strength and kinesthetic sense (when you sprain your ankle you injure the nerves that tell your body the location of your foot so your body doesn't know the position of your foot as well). Start range of motion exercises and retrain your foot/ankle- try spelling out the alphabet with your foot- a good rehab exercise. You sound like your sprain is worse than mine- figure 4-6 weeks to recover, and your ankle will never be as good as it was, unfortunately. If you are active, I'd suggest investing in an ankle brace (my favorite is called the Malleoloc- very light weight but strong) I've never sprained an ankle while I was wearing it- only while I wasn't (stuipid me!)
Hope you get better soon!
I've been really busy with work and kids and church and stuff- trying to keep up with all that's going on! Hope everyone's having a good summer.
Rob, how's the GT? I'll have to try to make one of the chat's! (tough in the summer for me!)

Thanks, that's the type of advice I was looking for. I'm getting around pretty well now and I did get an ankle brace, it helps if only to remind me not to push it.
Went to the beach this weekend and had a really nice time, the weather was perfect. We're going again next week in a Tribeca loaner. :-)
We'll also have a family of 3 coming with us, so we'll be testing that 7 passenger capacity. It'll be 3 adults and 4 kids, so I'm hoping we fit OK for about a 3 hour drive each way.

Sorry to hear about the surgery. I'm sure you'll be good as new in no time.
Mark
Even at your worst, I'm sure you can out type me.
Jim
You sound like you're a trooper so I'm not concerned about your recovery.
Get well soon!

We actually went down to help Beth's aging Aunt and Uncle out, as nobody in the family can seem to find the time to attend to some of their basic needs these days. But while there, we did see other family and some very dear friends. And the kids and I got into the water every available moment, from early morning, till close to 11pm.
Hurricane Dennis passed to our West and churned up the sea pretty well, along with some moderately robust but warm winds and a bit of rain. All around, pretty tame, but exciting. We watched the crazy surfers from the pavilian at Boca Raton on Friday night. Other than a little rain on Saturday, we had an 8 day spell of near perfect sunbathing and touring weather. We had an ocean view room at the Deerfield Beach Embassy Suites which was pretty nice. Hertz car was an Altima. Very nice overall, but a bit quirky in some areas. Flew American drawing from my bank of frequent flyer miles, so at least that part was free.
Juice, Tom & Brenda: sorry to hear about your collective misfortunes, but hope everyone is on the mend.
On the terrorist front, my cousin was in his office near the Liverpool station, and they felt the place rock. No physical damage, but they knew that something had happened - earthquake, gas explosion, etc. It is a scarry world....

Sorry I missed the chat. The Tribeca has this hypnotic feature that keeps you driving even if you have nowhere to go.
Gotta run...she's calling me again!

I did have a chance to ride in a brand new Acura RL (JDM Honda Legacy), however. My cousin who lives there gave me a ride to the airport the day I left. Very nice vehicle. I loved the little indicator in the dash that shows what SH-AWD is doing. You could see the torque going to each wheel change as you rounded a corner on the highway. The Nav system was great. It gets real-time traffic info through 3 sources (Honda, local traffic reports and internet). The only thing I didn't like about the RL was some of the interior trim. While the leather seating surfaces were superb, some of the dash and door trim material didn't seem to flow together very well.

Got to see Silvxter, his Silver XT, and his new portable Gramin NAV, which looked pretty neat (see the Tribeca thread, I'm hooked on NAV).
We had a too-short chat and said adios, I came back last night but I think he's up there for a week. I'm may go back again on Friday if the weather is nice.
It sure was nice to road trip in the Tribeca, DVD playing movies for the kids and the NAV system allowing us to relax and just sit back and wait for instructions. Plus the space, the heated seats, heated mirrors. I think we used every feature it had!
Then of course I had to do the "walk of shame", from the leather-clad loaded Tribeca to my poor man's Forester, Sandy had a jealous look to her. I think I'll wash her tonight to make up for it.

P.S. I can answer for Juice... boys and their toys :P
I usually go Rt. 113 to 54 east all the way. The Nav system took me on Rt 26 to 20, then 54. It's a diagonal short cut that is fewer miles and avoids 2 towns that go to a 25mph speed limit.
Wish I'd known earlier because that's where I got a speeding ticket last year. 25mph next to a cemetary, I mean, who exactly are the pedestrians at 11pm at night walking by a cemetary? And isn't it safer to have them run over any way? LOL
So it would have saved me from having to slow down to 25mph and cruising slowly thru "Ticketville Cemetary" and Termite Acres.
Sunday nights there are traffic backups that can be awful and it could help find detours. Without NAV I've never even tried because the wife can't read maps well.
Also, for once, the wife could drive and feel relaxed about it. It tells you how many miles until the next turn, and if I'm not paying attention she'd drive right by it. I have to co-pilot for her, but not with Nav. I can even watch a movie with the kids.
"Becky", as I call that voice, also told us how to get to a body shop we'd never been to before (Miata got slight damage), plus a plumbing supply place, both from the yellow pages. We used it to find the address where we returned the car as well.
The Map features is also useful, just drive around and it gives you street names.
I asked Becky to do my taxes but she needed my W2 forms and I had to return her.
Just kidding about that last part.

Bob had heard this rumor but we can now confirm it. :-)

LOL! I gotta admit, I thought I was in Puerto Rico with all this massive rain that would come for 20-30 minutes and leave, then come back again. Speaking of which, we're closing on our new (first ever) house end of month. We're excited and nervous at the sametime. Well, since the house came in the picture, our priorities shifted so I got me a Mazda 3 SP Hatchback and got the wife a Mazda Tribute (21K and 20K OTD, respectively). I'm not a fan of FWD but hey, they're fun to drive, especially the 3. Both have been tested under these crazy rain storms, and I've been pretty happy. Well, at least for now, it'll do.
The 3 and the Tribute are not Ark but I may do some mods to the Tribute. Maybe I'll call it the Arkute
BTW, no rain today
thanks bigelm was waiting a while for that 24999 post lol,
Steve, Host
Congrats on the house! Sounds like Atlanta is a good direction for you and your family. Good luck with the new rides as well (even though they aren't Subies).
Mark
Congrats, you'll feel very proud and deservedly so.
Haven't heard from Bob in 2 days so he's either out driving or trying to figure out the NAV system.

As to the NAV... I'm learning, slowly but surely...
Bob
Congrats! That's one sure way to champion the grille that you have defended all along

Now back down to earth, the fiscal reality is that we just bought a beach condo and can't really fork out that kind of money right now. Maybe in a couple of years I can combine the two mortgages and then the wife can take on a car payment, we'll see. We're too debt-heavy right now.
Fact is we won't be buying anything in that price range for at least a couple of years, and if we did go shopping today our price limit would be around $21-24k ($10k over what the Legacy would trade-in for), which would put us in a van or even a used vehicle.
