Bob
And I was the one that suggested Wednesday. Can you do another night?
If not, I'd say go ahead and meet up with Bob, and I'll be on stand-by and try to grab lunch with you one day, since I'm already downtown every day for work.

PS And we're never gonna survive, unless, we get a little Crazy

Just catching up after a couple of days and wanted to add my well wishes for your mom. I know what you are going through - a few years ago my dad had the fluid problem for quite a while. With him it was caused by two things: his weight/diabetes, and his kidneys (caused by a severe heart attack). I'm sure that everything will work out. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Mark
If I tried that with my wife she would have hit me with the Geiger counter

Isn't NYC water actually very clean?

The truth of the matter is I was laid off from my job in April. It wasn't for cause as a number of other people got their pink slips and, from what I understand, others have followed. Mergers and acquistions the cause - new parent company decided to insource my role to the home office and eliminate my position. Funny that HR and CEO didn't foresee that when I interviewed there last summer.
It's ironic in that I took that job last summer in order to get some stability and predictability in my life. Given that my last job required a lot of travel with very little notice - often trips cancelled or postponed at the last minute - and we had an infant at home, it was not something I wanted a part of anymore. So I don;t know about the stability part, but things are starting to get predictable.
Financially things are fine for now; I did receive a severance package and I did have a bit of an egg saved. Psychologically is another story. I'm still looking for work and leads are slow to develop, even for part time work. I'm 42 and I'm beginning to fear the worst. I don't foresee having to get rid of the XT but the Studebaker may be another story before too long. (At that point I may have to change my screen name!) I know others among you have gone through similar hardships and worse; in particular I've been following Beth's story and wish for the best for her.
I feel that I've become very much out of touch with current developments not only with Subaru but with automobiles in general. Make one mistake in describing something and the marque fanatics who live online are quick to jump on you. I guess that's what happens when you use the bulk of your online time job hunting and networking rather than keeping up with changes in model years, paint codes and part numbers.
Anyway, sorry for the whiny rant. I haven't been here on a regular basis in a long time and I figured it was time you all knew why.
Ed
Are you getting leads? How's the networking going? Have you been in touch with any headhunters, etc.? What about some of the Internet job sites? I hope these don't sound like silly questions.
Bob
I'm sure your skills are needed somewhere, just keep in mind it takes longer to fill specialty positions like yours. One rule of thumb is it takes 1 month for every $10k in salary, so a lot of folks spend quite a long time in transition and it's normal.

I am extremely sorry to hear of your situation. Any abrupt change (move, illness, job loss, etc.) plays havoc with our lives, our emotions, our sense of stability. My brother-in-law recently got canned in a shuffle, so did a long time acquantance at work. I wish you well.
I stay away from certain threads for a reason. Not sure what happened in response to your post, but it was probably not deserved. Here's to hoping that you can ignore the hurt and find time to rejoin us.
Steve
from my experience...
"Throw that fear and worries out the door!"
That's not going to do you or anyone around you any good.
Relax and enjoy the moment. Here's your chance for quality time with your son
I'd seized my moment and enjoyed everyday of it.

Ed,
As far as the fanatics are concerned, three words of advice: "Consider the source".
Sounds like you're making the best use of your on-line time.
Drop in here when you can, but like Dave suggested, its "Daddy Time" too!
Cheers!
Paul
Things have a way of working out, although it can be tough at times. Hopefully you'll enjoy the time off and look ahead to bigger and better times.
DaveM
Good to read you back with the crew!
A lot of us have gone thru the lay-off track. I was out MUCH longer than I ever expected. But in the end, I was offered a job that paid more than my previous one!
Hang in there. I'll be praying for you.
Jim
Is there a market for re-fabbed Little Tikes WRX cars? :shades:

I was 'downsized' at the 10 year mark after giving everything to the company I worked for. Nobody's fault really - the company was going into the tank.
I jumped industries, from high tech to healthcare, and discovered an untapped wealth of opportunities. I guess I got complacent, and never knew what was in the outside world.
Three years ago, my wife lost her job of 17 years. Her's was not as predictable. She worked for an insurance company, based out of New York. Then 9/11 came along and the company suffered losses of massive proportions from the payouts. She now stays at home with our 10 year old. She volunteers at the school, and is the 'neighborhood mom' that everyone seems to rely on. I occasionally travel, and it is so much easier for her without dealing with a job, the boy, and everything else.
I guess I won't say it's been easy. My wife and I had to reassess everything, and reprioritize our lifestyle and goals. As it has been said in other posts, sometimes these things happen for a reason. It always seems to work out in the end.
All of us have a lot of transferrable skills. Now is the time to reassess, and maybe take a risk on an opportunity that you never would have considered. You would be surprised - the rewards outweigh the risks.
Sorry for the long post. I hope this is an encouragement to you. Good Luck! Rob M.
Sorry to hear about the job, but I will join with everyone else saying to hang in there and enjoy the time with your family for now. My wife calls me the eternal optimist since I feel that things have a way of working out.
And I'll echo Frank, that as someone who saw 42 a couple of years ago, it's not that old!
Keeping the fingers crossed.
Mark
May it be sunny and great for what ever you do. Enjoy the weekend.
Mark
Took my kid to work this morning, the 2 year old, boy was he a handfull! Ever get embarassed by how loud they get in a professional situation?
We wore matching hawaiian shirts, thought, so noone seemed to mind. :-)

By the way.. I hear the water is better in Atlanta... LOL!
I'm in temporary housing, so this drama won't be over until we finally settle in our apt. next month.
Brenda.. I missed your post, sorry. Best wishes and positive thoughts sent your way. Everything will be fine!
P.S. what happened to the little car emoticons?
I think they still work...
