The emoticons don't work with all browsers. I use Opera and I don't see them.

Glad to here Beth is home, I'm sure she's more comfy there. :-)

Got a flat tire on the drive back from the beach - and had to ride on the spare for about 120 miles! I'm sure glad I didn't have a donut, even though it's not a perfect match for my aftermarket tires it worked just fine the whole way.

Puncture looks like a big nail, not sure if it can be patched, we'll see. Tires have 55k miles on them so I may get new ones even though there is plenty of tread left.

    juice,

Glad the full (OEM) sized worked well. Did you worry about the circumference difference?

Time to get new tires! 55K is a long way to go.

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I've only seen it in the dark, as it happened last night.

I'll probably get one of those tread guages and measure to see how much is left and if they're worn evenly. If either of those or the hole itself is a problem, they're history.

Lemme think - 73k - 28k is actually 45k, got a little ahead of myself there.

The irony is that if we had a new Tribeca we would have been stranded and had to call for roadside assistance. No way could that donut have gone 120 miles.

I carry an air pump in it all the time, but I should bring my patch kit as well. I don't like Fix-a-Flat.

Yes, she is feeling much better about life now that it is (hopefully....) over, and is very glad to be home.

    Steve,

Glad to hear that Beth is back home. Did you screen her again with the Geiger counter before bringing her home? :P

Ed, listen to Dave. He speaks from experience. :)

Elmer, glad you made it down ok and hope you settle in nicely.

Steve, good that Beth is home now!!

Speaking of not posting, where's Colin? Is he a 100% Mitsu-head now? :)

So yesterday I removed a nail that looked like one these:

    http://www.tremontnail.com/

Those things are HUGE. It was easy to find.

But the good news is I plugged it up nicely and passed a leak test, plus it held its pressure overnight.

Tires are pretty evenly worn, slightly more on the outer sides from cornering, but they are in good shape. I think I'll start tire shopping soon but I won't rush out and buy them now.

I was just treated to a very nice dinner by Serge at the Capital City Brewery in DC. Finally got to meet his wife Susan and Michael their son—all good people. :) It's always great to "actually" meet Crew members, but as usual the time was just too short. :( Serge took some photos, so when I get them I'll post them.

Seal concert last night was great, too. AWD came in handy in the wet grass, too. Luckily the rain stopped before the show because we had lawn seats! :-)

Wow, it's been unbelieveable how out of touch you feel when you have no internet connection. Almost felt third world.... it's good to be back, though we're still adjusting. But I'm starting to like Atlanta ;)

Just spent June 10-June 22 in the 'grown-up car' (shhhh you guys know what that is) driving 2700 miles. This includes driving to League City, TX (between Houston and Galveston), seeing my parents, my 2 daughters down there and the 5 grandchildren they have between them, some friends, the DH's sister's family, bringing a 17 year old back with us to work at the family popcorn stand at Indiana Beach, and working one day making taffy strips at the same stand. We got home about midnight on Wed and we're still decompressing, although HE had to go to work today.

My mother looks 'well', although there are lingering issues. They have changed some medications, including the one for her thyroid. She was released from the hospital the day after we arrived. We stayed to see her for four days of the trip, and I talked to her again last night. She still feels 'ok' for the most part. I'm worried that they really haven't been able to find the underlying cause of all the problems, though. She will be 70 next month - not that 'old', but she and my dad are very old before they should be due to inactivity and lack of interest in life in general.

We enjoyed our trip and enjoyed seeing everyone. AGAIN, I passed SAI twice on the trip on the highway.... when are we going to actually MEET up there????

glad to be back and there are a ton of messages in other boards here to catch up on, although I did read this one while I was gone ..

glad to see Elm is over his surgery and moved ... but summer in Atlanta isn't the best time to get acquainted with the south! The day we arrived in Texas it was so hot that about 8 counties just north of Houston ended up without electrical power (and A/C) due to the heat overloads which caused a mini-blackout. You'll love winter, though!

    See ya!

LOL... it's ok. I was raised in Puerto Rico; I've experienced it many times before ;) The heat doesn't bother me at all. As a matter of fact, I'm enjoying these 90+ degrees weather :D

WB Elm and Brenda. It's been (noticeably) slower without you. ;)

2700 miles? Yowsah. Must've been nice to bring the whole Townhouse with you. LOL

Perfect weather here in DC, it's been sunny and mild the last couple of days. I may go for a walk at lunch.

    How was the chat?

I had a end-of-year dinner with my work buddies, should've snuck in Serge! LOL

We went to Seqouia, a nice place on the Georgetown Waterfront. You see all the planes coming in towards National Airport, plus all the boats on the Potomac. Some times I forget how close I work to the water.

Got home well past the end of the chat so I missed the whole thing.

Don't know what part of Atlanta you live in but I enjoyed 80 degrees today. Though it rained in the morning and early afternoon. But we're going back to high 80's, low 90's.... whoooo-hoooooooo.

    How 'bout damn Yankees!

Sorry, folks, I washed the fleet on Saturday. All 3 cars.

Checked the forecast today for DC - rain (already had some), tomorrow rain. Just to make sure my cars get dirty, there will also be rain on Wednesday and Thursday. 100% chance on all 4 days.

    Am I jinxed or what?

    Juice-

Now I am glad I didn't wash my car this weekend :) .

Actually no time for that. Spent Thurs thru Sunday in 3 different hospitals for most of the time :( defintely not a fun weekend. Took my mom in to the hospital Thursday with chest pains, spent all day in the ER till she was admitted. Friday, she was transferred to Cornell Medical in Manhattan (across form Sloan) for an Angiogram that did not take place till late Friday. Thankfully everything is ok, although we're still concerned about the chest pains.
Then, to top it off, spent last night in the ER with my wife. We recently adopted another cat after putting our oldest to sleep about 3 weeks ago. The youngster was getting restless so we decided to get a friend. Well, Saturday while I was taking my mom home, the new cat scratched, and bit my wife. We cleaned it up and thought that was all. Yesterday I was in a defensive driver class and get a call saying my wife wants to go the ER. Seems the bites got infected. After a tetnaus shot and some antibiotics she's fine, but I have to say I am getting sick of hospitals. And to add to it- the hospital first gave her penicillin which she is allergic to. So they had to give her Benadryl as well!

It seems I wasn't the only one with a bad weekend though. A friend in the local Porsche club was at Watkins Glen for a track weekend, and wound up wrecking his car. Now he's looking for a new ride.

What a weekend! Hope it was better for everyone else!

sounds like a lousy weekend all the way round ... hope everyone is fine now!
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
Oh, Mark! Definitely a weekend to pretend never happened. Hope your wife and mom are on the mend. Is that the campus between York and the river? That is a beautiful area (if you need to be in a hospital....).

    Steve-

Yeah, that's the place. They have a nice walkway along the East river. My mom even kept looking at all the boats going by. Made us promise to go with her on the Circle Line boat. CAn you beleive she's going to be 79 and never on it; then again I'm almost 44 and haven't either. I guess we never see the stuff in our own "backyard".

Take a half day and do the circle line cruise. It is not to be missed.

Just bought a new one for the wife. It is nice and I guess and example of why US manufactures are losing market share. If the old Taurus wagon was AWD it would have been a good car. They have the Freestyle but nothing smaller in a car. The Fusion will be nice but AWD is at least a year away. The OBS is just the right size, nice option package (upgraded stereo, mirror with compass, temp gauge) and my wife likes how it drives. It can fit two of our Greyhounds along with my wife and myself. It only has 300 miles on it but seems like it will do just fine.

Hi all, I posted in here a few months ago about the ALC ride that I was participating in (riding from San Francisco to Los Angeles) and thought I'd post a follow up.

First, to those who donated, thank you again for your support. My partner and I raised over $6,000 for the cause, and collectively the 1,600 riders this year were able to raise $6.8 million the SF AIDS Foundation and the LA Gay and Lesbian Center. A huge success by any measure!

The event was June 5-11th, and it was without question the most fulfilling week vacation of my life. The ride was grueling (585 miles) but we all survived and felt absolutely fantastic on day 7 when we rolled into LA.

Subaru was again one of the primary sponsors of the event and they maintained a high profile throughout the week. SOA provided a fleet of 2005-2006 Subarus (mostly Tribecas, but there were several 06 Forester XT/LL Beans and a handfull of Legacy GT's and Outback XT/LL Beans) to serve as support vehicles for the crew. There were nearly 500 volunteers/roadies on hand to support the riders throughout the week, and many were driving the Subarus from camp to camp. It was neat to see all the new Subaru's working the route.

I cannot stress enough how proud I am to be a Subaru customer -- they support "my" community in ways that go far beyond the typical marketing efforts put forth by other companies. For 15 years now, Subaru has led the way by not only marketing to the GLBT community, but also actively supporting it with substantial financial committments such as the AIDS/Lifecycle event. Their progressive leadership has made a customer for life out of me.

Anyways, there are pics and blogs of the event posted at www.experience.aidslifecycle.org -- and thanks again for your support!

    Regards,
    Brian Kaiser

That's really good news Brian, and for a very worthy cause. Glad you enjoyed the ride, and that SOA played a big role in it. :)

ok .. once the big flurry of activity hit in about april, I haven't had time to read all the posts in all the forums in my message center ... as of this morning, there were something like 1500 messages unread on about 5 boards .. there are almost 1000 in the tribeca board still unread ...

right now ... I have skimmed all but two boards ... and there are about 1100 to go .... lol

I'm going to make a valiant attempt to remember chat tomorrow night .. as there is no reason at this point for me to not be there ...

    see ya!

Congrats on the OBS, 5greyhounds. You know it's a pre-requisite to have a pet to become a Crew member, right? ;-)

Brian: I'll add my congrats as well.

I'm sure you're familiar with The L Word and Subaru seems to be a sponsor for that show, in fact they talk about Subaru sponsoring the tennis playing character in that show. Great show BTW.

Automotive News had an article about the subject of targeted marketing recently if you want to look it up. Or ask me and I'll e-mail you a copy.

Wow I have not been on the forum for a couple of months . Glad to here all is will with everyone . It has been a very busy time for me . Mother had back surgery for bone spurs on her lower spine pressing on her siatica nerve . All is well with her . My step father had bypass surgery on his legs for poor circulation . When I was down there they got a letter in the mail form the group of owners that own the park that live in saying it was sold and they have 6 months to move . They live in a 55 and older park ,they own their house but not the land it sits on . I spent 2 weeks looking at other places but most are the same as they live in now . It looks like they are going to move to a retirement community( like sun city in arizona) south of San Francsico . My brother lives there and he wants to invest in some property so he is going in on a duplex in the community with them .
I had the outback in for service at my saleman came over to try to sell me a new car . I will not sit in a new subby due to the fact I will want one . So I looked at a Chevy equinox due to the emp discont thing going on now . Nice but very cheap materials used on the inside . To make a long story short they only offered my 9900.00 for my 02 outback with 55k miles on it . I laughed in their face and walked back over to service area .

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
So you looked at a Chevy because you were pretty confident that you would *not* want to buy a new one? Hilarious.

I'll give you 9901 for that Outback. ;-)
