I decided to go for a Master's degree in History and a possible topic is the day Cornwallis surrendered to Washington. In doing preliminary research, I came upon an unusual painting of Cornwallis done after the surrender. In contrast to Washington on that day, the sadness really shows in Cornwallis's face, a true "long face" to use the expression for sadness. First, Washington with Lafayette and Col. Tilghman at Yorktown

Congratulations Jim, that is a sweet car. I just got another sports car too (S2K), but in my case, I have a wife around to give me heck about it!

Good luck with the therapy ;-) , those STi 0-60 times ought to help a lot.....

I bet Washington's reaching in to get the keys to his Subie. I think Napoleon drove one, too.

Cornwallis looks like he's at the end of his rope.

Catching up after coming back from vacation in Florida. Serge -how do you stand the heat there? Way too hot where we were (Pompano area).

Ken- Sorry to hear about the accident your siter-in-law and family were invloved in. I was happy to read about the ceremony at the Hospital. I agree with Bob -once everyone is home and healthy have a party to celeberate!

Steve- They keep on saying road rage is on the rise. Glad to hear nothing bad happened out of it.

Jim and Craig -congrats on the new rides.

Pat- sorry to hear about the incident with Titan, but at least no one was hurt.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

    Ken,

That is a great story! Glad it went off well. Maybe you guys could do it again and have that party when everyone is healthy and back on their feet?

BTW: Manuscript for the proceedings passed review, and is filed. Now working on the powerpoint slides. Got to start thinking about reservations.

    Holy cow...

The wife just called, she was driving in her Legacy on Seven Locks Rd and heard a massive crack/pop sound. She thought her engine had blown up it was so loud, but when she looked in her rear view mirror a huge tree had fallen in the road, right behind her!

There was one other car between her and the tree, but she was less than a football field away from it. Whew.

Noone was hurt but the road is closed. That's the 2nd time this month a large tree has fallen across 7 Locks Rd and caused it to be closed.

    Coincidentally, the Legacy's nickname? Lucky.

Wow. I'm glad Lana is okay. I think she needs to smell some roses after a close call like that! Uhh...preferably provided by her grateful husband. :)
  • njswamplandsnjswamplands Member Posts: 1,760
parked the car by the tree when it was still up, get everyone a safe distance and then watch the car get smashed, you could be off the fence and hello female nav voice. :P

really glad everyone is ok. i fear these huge trees surrounding my house crashing down into one of the bedrooms...
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
back in 1987, we had a neighbor's tree fall on our house. We got a complete new roof, and windows and siding for the side that was affected. Fortunately we had scaffolding up on that side, as we were already in the process of getting new cedar siding, so the damage to that side of the house was not as bad as it could have been.

Serge - stay safe (not sure if you are where Katrina is aiming for or not.) BTW - it was just upgraded to a hurricane.

Katrina was headed for us, made landfall at Ft. Lauderdale and then unexpectedly turned SW towards the Keys, the only place in SOuth Florida that had absolutely no Hurrice watch or warning in effect...they are currently getting the brunt of the storm as we speak. Here in Broward county, there are approx 450K people w/o power and 650K in Miami-Dade county. We are ok; just a bunch of dead palm fronds blown off...saved me some work.
Speaking of trees, 3 of the 4 deaths in Broward were caused by trees falling on people or their vehicles; the 4th was caused by a 79-yr old man out driving in the storm, losing control, and crashing into a TREE!

As to the guitar, it is a 1996 Epiphone Les Paul Standard - Ltd Edition (I think the color is rare),,,it's aqua changing to blue by the edges...incredible color which seems to change in various light conditions.

Anybody have the Zoom-Zoom ride and drive website? LMK
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Swampy: don't give me any crazy ideas, now. :P

Besides, The Fence is strong, the tree would have been propped up by it!

We actually took 4 trees down on our property, two dead ones plus two others that leaned over the house a bit much for my liking.

Ken: the true was HUGE, you could not get your arms around the trunk! The Legacy would likely have been a pancake, just like the engine's layout. :surprise:

Bob - wanna go to the Lexus event? E-mail me, it's 9/24-25 in DC. Fun part is they bring several brands of cars, not just Lexii.

Lemme look up the Mazda one, see if I can find it..., yup...

A strange thing happened an hour ago...after 1 1/2 days of being stuck indoors, Michael and I went to the local Sam Ash in Margate FL just to get some air...he's sitting there playing a Gretsch and he says to me.."Dan Marino just walked by". Huh? I'm not a Dolphins fan, but I grab the first magazine I see (Digizine) and walked around the store till I saw him. I borrowed a sharpie from the salesguy and he signed the mag for me...Nice guy (big guy also), was there with his son.

Nice write up on the B9 over at subdriven! I just got around to reading it. If Subaru keeps the contents and improvements up on this vehicle, I may just end up buying one in a couple of years!

Cool Serge. I met an ex-football player in Orlando one time, and he towered over me, it was incredible. Not only was he tall, his shoulders must've been twice as wide, too. He showed me his Super Bowl ring (which he got playing backup).

Don't worry, Bob and I will take photos with our helmets on. ;)

Another tree fell down, this time near me. Actually it was a rotted out branch.

Landed in the lane next to me, scared the CRAP out of me. I just barely managed to avoid swerving to the right and would have hit a stone wall if I'd over-reacted. Yikes.

Guess I was between a rock and a hard place. Literally.

Escaped unscathed, but freaked out a bit.

I think I'll go to church this Sunday. :surprise:
