I'll take a Z06 and a Miata track edition.
But tomorrow I might want a 911 and a Miata.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Well, just went to my little brother's and sister's college graduation. She's a year older but took 5 years to finish an engineering degree (biological resources). My brother got a BS in government and politics. Pretty cool, I felt pretty proud of them, both were Terps like I was.
Old-timers here may recall my brother hopped in for a couple of posts, using a screen name of Teddy-something, way back when, probably before he started high school. He's also the one that got the '03 Legacy SE sedan (sis has an '02 Forester X).
So I poppped in for the end of the chat, but it looks like it ended just when I joined, oh well. Next week, I guess.

Please convey my congratulations to both. Nice to hear god things happening. And tell your sister 5 years is not bad for a degree - I did the 13 year plan for a BA in Business Management (3yrs semi-full time, the rest at night).
Happy Holidays to all!

Happy Holidays to all! Rob M.
i can not think of a better degree for government and politics
Knowledge, of course.
Gave all 3 cars fresh oil and filters for Christmas. Sadly, no Tribeca keys in my stocking, but that's OK, the kids had a blast and we have a lot to be thankful for.

This is awesome - this guy ran hot water to his garage so he could bathe his Tribeca with warm water.
I granted him lifetime membership in the OCD Club.

Cheers Pat.

there would be an upside to it. You could bath the dog without buckets of hot water or sending it to the grooming parlour.
Cheers

Chat link is on the left; last chance this year to talk live with your fellow Subbieites.

Also, it looks like Subaru's offering a new option on some models (Legacy & Outback sedans, Tribeca w/out DVD, and...?). $59 gets you rear reading lights.
A Happy and Healthy New Year to one and all!
Mark
I got new matching booster seats for my kids. The tan color matches Sandy's interior, plus it has slide-out trays and built-in lights on each side, pretty nifty.
Happy New Year to all. My resolution is to get my finances back in order and start saving up for my next Subie! Maybe not for 2006, but we'll see.

Last night, we were hit with one huge Pacific storm. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph on the bridges and 7-8" of rain in some areas. The rivers in the Napa area are expected to flood today with some areas exceeding flood levels by 10'.
Hope things are a little drier for the rest of you!

Should I keep my 98 Legacy GT with 120K (it will need timing belt- I did it at 60K , not 90 last time; water pump and is in need of some new camseals for a tiny oil leak), otherwise it drives great. All brakes recently done in last year. Last oil analysis shows engine is still doing great. Daughter gets to driving age in a year, this could be a good "beater" for her to beat up! But it doesn't have all the modern safety stuff like side airbags etc. Or should I get a 4cyl 06 and then let her use it in a year or two?? She actually has her eye on the WRX but no way on earth is she getting something with more than 10hp/year of her age! That also means no 3.0 or turbos, though I would really like to get VDC which means I may have to break that rule! Heck, my first car had 55hp! So what do ya all think???
It's not going to be worth much on a trade and you know how the car has been maintained. The one thing to keep in mind is the headgasket issue. But then again my advice would be to have a maintainance account in the event a gasket goes.
Even to replace both headgaskets is less than one years depreciation on a new car.
My 2 cents.
Cheers Pat.
I've been down in SoCal visiting the folks and there's something very unnatural about it being 80 and sunny in the middle of December! I'm actually glad to be back in Seattle where it's raining!
tom
I definitely agree with the hp limit- they should have a car with 'adequate' power, but nothing to get them into trouble or be tempted to streetrace.
Good luck!
tom
Pat is right about the headgaskets. This seems to be the weakest point on these models.
I traded my 99 Legacy GT with 125k last May. It was very clean, and mechanically sound. Other than normal maintenance, all I did was a set of tires and brakes all around.
My reason to update to an 05 Legacy was the allure of the newer model. I like my new car, and at times still miss my old one.
I would keep yours and shoot for 200k. Good Luck! Rob M.
Anyway, I was stopped at a light going the opposite direction, otherwise I would have chased him down for a little bit and asked.

my third daughter (last year in college) is still driving the 93 oldsmobile cutlass ciera with almost 200,000 miles on it .. even with a rebuilt transmission put on it about 2 1/2 years ago it's still a bargain compared to buying something newer .. it's worth nothing to anyone but us .. and it was well maintained while *I* drove it the first 7 years .. and it's not nearly as well built as the subie ...
my advice is to make sure she has good brakes ... keep the 'beater' for her .. and when she's able and willing to make a commitment to help pay for something newer .. THEN get something newer ....
my 2 cents
Brenda
celebrate SAFELY !!!
Brenda
thanks for the advice on the 98 for the daughter, I'm leaning to a new one for the safety aspects. the ultimate authority will decide the issue as she will need a new minivan soon and it'll be tough getting a new Legacy and new minivan plus the kitchen redo she wants!!!!
If you go new, just go the extra mile and take her to an advanced driving course, for many reasons.

Then I have to go through 4 steps to get in, Anyone else have this problem?
Cheers Pat.

2 weeks gone and there are 1,200,369,000 message to read!
Michael and I had a great time in NJ and NY, where every other car we saw was a Subie!; I had some really useful interviews with administrators in Union, West Orange, Basking Ridge and Green Brook school systems, thanks to Michael's friend's father, a dentist in Cranford. They gave me lots of encouragement and possibilities for September.
I've sent away my paperwork to NJ Dept of Education for my certificate of eligibility.
Meanwhile, I passed my Reading K-12 exam here in Florida and am taking reading endorsement classes online. I hope to have both my Social Studies and Reading certifications when I go back up to Jersey.
We went to NY for some sight-seeing, Observation deck of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Museum of Modern Art, Soho for dinner at Tennessee Mountain and desert at Bruno's Bakery, Hard rock Cafe in Times Square to look at their collection, and hit every guitar store on 48th Street...Manny's, Rudy's, Sam Ash, as well as 2 different Guitar Centers in NJ. Michael got to try out all of his dream guitars, including an American Telecaster, Gibson Jimmy Page Les Paul, Rickenbacker 12-string, Gibson ES 356 and 335, as well as a vintage Gibson TV Yellow Double Cut(around $12,000). His favorites were the Jimmy Page and the vintage ES 356, the size of a Les Paul , but semi-hollow body. Michael and his buddy Dan both play guitar and spent the second week of vacation jamming. No complaints there!;
Anyway, I have some good vibes about the trip and look forward to coming back North.
Was one actually in the movie?
tom
Hope everyone is having a wonderful new year!

It seems like everytime Edmunds upgrades, the bugs have all got worked out, when bang here we go again, I really wish that when things are working fine they would just leave it alone.
Cheers Pat.
So Brenda, what are all the things I need to do to avoid being jinxed???
