I used to wonder the same thing until I bought my Mazdaspeed3. I thought I'd try something a bit different from my usual diet of RWD sport sedans. Bad mistake. I'm bored to tears with it, and I'm the type of guy who usually keeps a car for five years or more- I still have the 3 Series I special ordered in 1995. Purchase in haste...

What about it is boring you?
I made friends yesterday with a guy at the autoX who runs his red MS3 in my class. He ALWAYS gets first place. He really loves the car.

FWD, mostly. It's actually pretty pleasant to drive as a grocery getter. It's a dog at HPDE's.

Exactly. I just want to make sure that whatever I replace it with will suit my needs for a very long time. Like I said, this is the first car ever that's turned me off after just one year.

I think you have those descriptions reversed. Read on.
While I usually keep a car for at least 6/7 years before I get rid of it that in no way is indicative of cheapness or frugality. When I do think it's the end of the line for them they have always been very clean cars for their age and under the typical miles for their age. I have never had a problem selling any of them. Plus I now own 2 relatively new beautiful cars (05' and 06'). I've never, even once, had 2 cars so new at the same time. It must be a sign of my wealth and I ain't makin no excuses for that. :P I believe, if anything, I'm the one that is frugal not cheap.
On the other hand, 'oldfarmer', has said he's owned cars and trucks much longer than 6/7 years and IIRC he's mentioned that they've had manure ground into the mats and that's if the vehicles even had a floor to hold them. I'm positive that the ones that didn't, were the result of the corrosive affects of the manure. Now that's what I call cheap.
I don't mind being cited as having a particular trait on these board but lets get the facts straight. There is nothing that gripes me more than being mentioned in the same sentence with a farming cheapskate.
Have a nice day.

Just so there's absolutely no misunderstanding.
I have no understanding of what you just copied and pasted.
I just buy things when I want them. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later. :P

On the contrary, when you have so much "wealth" and you still cheap out on your cars that is truly the definition of a cheapskate. When, like me, you're poorer than Jed Clampett before the oil, you buy cheap because there is no other choice.
If you and Jipster want to send a little green my way I'll be glad to roll in some really fine sheet metal. ( I'm thinkin' something from Aston Martin)

I'd have to search ... but I seem to recall several of the mags finding the MS3 to be the fastest car at the track for under $30k. ??

At Putnam Park Road Course I was able to keep up with a couple of Mini Coopers during the instructor sessions, but I had to give a point-by to just about everything else. On top of that, I felt like I was fighting with the car at every turn(pun intended). I just don't think I will ever be happy with a FWD car- no matter how fast it is.

Who said I “cheaped out”? I bought exactly what I wanted as I always do. Because it didn’t cost what others think you have to spend to get quality/reliability is not my problem. Having a buying attitude like mine helps to achieve wealth. Try it for 40 + years then you’ll know what I’m talking about. However, given you’re an old farmer you probably don’t have the time for this but you should pass this philosophy onto your youngins. It’s not too late for them.

You must be harvesting some pretty good stuff to even think that’ll happen. :P

Now it becomes clear as to why your wife needs to hint about getting a dinette set. She needs to somehow make you think it's your idea. Car salespeople are pretty good at that.

Perhaps they are being penurious. Or would that be parsimonious?

Nope, neither of those. Just understanding of what something is worth, will be worth and what it can do for you.
Things on wheels usually depreciate.

Except for hot dog stands. Those usually appreciate and so do the customers.

sorry, folks. just had to do it. for those scratching their heads, this is a Kevin Bacon movie reference.

Now I just have to talk down the potential seller. I'll let you know if he misleads me.
I'm actually going on a limb and negotiating a deal on a burrito stand. It's probably going to be tougher since we just got our own Chipotle grill in downtown Va Beach and there is also a plethora of Mexican restaurants!
However comma I think I might have a chance though with the catchy name I'll put on my stand:
"Pacolito's Burritos, where the only thing that runs on beans is the cart!" I'm thinking of making it a hybrid and running it on jalapeno peppers, beans, and tortilla chips. Emissions will be silent but deadly, but only to pests.
:shades:
Either that or they are doing such a great job of it that no one even realizes they've been misled! :P
Just kidding, of course.
It will pick up as it always does at the end of the Summer.

If a salesman gets that good he usually goes right into politics and we lose him to the dark side.

I have a question. We purchased an EX-L yesterday in Southern California and the "finance guy" told us that the alarm in the odyssey was a piece of junk that only sounds when the door opens....he said NOTHING about the fact that it comes with an ignition immobilizer or that it has basically all of the features that the Karr upgrade alarm has other than the shock sensors and starter disable. The dealer already has the Karr alarm preinstalled and just activates it or deactivates upon the car leaving the lot so its pretty much a scam. We were misled into thinking that the Odyssey did not have an ignition security system....what legally are allowed as a refund on the upgraded dealer installed alarm if we just purchased the vehicle..I know warranties can be cancelled in 30 days...does the same go for the dealer alarm? The dealer says they don't know how to remove the alarm.
Thanks
If the alarm is already preinstalled on all their vehicles, then they are incurring the costs for this. If they can turn it off and on, then just have them turn it off and give you your money back. No harm, no foul. Do not ask them to remove anything from the vehicle as I'm sure even more electrical problems will emerge from that.
How much did they charge you? Have you already had a discussion with them about refunding your money? Keep going up the chain of command until you get the answer you need.
Good luck!
In this day and age of sales the consumer is sometimes more educated than the saleperson on the product that they are buying. Not so true in the case of the gentleman who purchased the Acura. I do think that the saleperson made a product knowledge mistake, but needless to say, it was a costly mistake to his repuation, the dealer's reputation, and to the customer's pocketbook.

I agree. It would be nice if there were a forum where these knowledgeable sales people could share their stories and experiences. I'm sure it would be popular.

Just the other day my salesman told me that there was such a place. So far all I have found is a corn field in Iowa. I have been misled.
A few have taken up the cause over in the "Lost -- Ask a host for help" forum. I'm not sure about the progress being made though.
Be assured that we are taking all the comments provided quite seriously. Intractable problems require finite time to resolve.

Don't worry old farmer. I think the powers that be just want us to sweat for a little bit. I think after a couple weeks of letting us go through withdrawal, the Stories From the Sales Frontline discussion will be reinstated. That discussion is one of the most popular forums on Edmunds. They can't lose all the advertising money that comes with that. Of course yours truly gets a piece of the pie, for his daily postings. To supplement my income, during this time of transition, I'm helping Click and Clack with their column over at Cars.com.
Thanks a bunch for the input.
Sounds like a good idea for a new discussion... if they don't bring "Stories from the Sales Frontline" back.
I would like to see that as well. If handled correctly, there's room for a topic like this and Stories to exist successfully without overlap.
I'm like a rudderless ship. I have no idea where to post and what to read......
What to do?

Thanks for the thought though.
