Could you email me the dealer info from whom you got the quote on the XLE to sarithavk@hotmail.com? Thanks a lot!

I'm looking to purchase a Sienna XLE Limited within the next several weeks. Has anyone been able to beat MSRP in the Las Vegas area (i.e., Las Vegas/Henderson)?. If so, by how much and with whom? I have no problem ordering the car and waiting on delivery.

Finally got my XLE Blue mirage with pk5 and some litte things after more than 7 weeks.
    msrp 32084
    edmunds invoice 28437
    dealer invoice 28997
    paid 29711+89 doc fee

I live in Charlotte NC and could not find any deals near what i got from this dealer in SC. It took me 2 1/2 hour get there and saved more than 1500. I nego with dealers in my surrounding area outside of charlotte vie email and this is the best deal i got ( it beat 2nd best by $400). They are very professional and handle my order, questions well and all my experience with them was very pleasent. IF you are close to south carolina and willing to drive a little bit. try them out in Sumter, SC first before elsewhere.

Anyone have any good luck experiences in the DFW area? I am looking for an XLE with no options. I have not had any luck negotiating up from invoice, everyone wants to come down from MSRP. Anywhere from $500 - $2000

Can you share the dealer info to banums@acm.org

    Thanks

the dealer was 355 toyota. You can probably go through their internet inventory to see if they have anything you like. They are much more likely to negotiate if the car is actually in their lot. Also
the sale person was a newbie and it was the manager who kind of controlled the negotiations.

Have order in for XLE Limited AWD HO,Z4 package. Picking up before XMAS.
Dealer took 2k off MSRP, down to $39k.
Good deal? Another dealer wanted same for HE package.

I finally received my Sienna! It's a beauty!!

MSRP $36,035 (with rear spoiler, towing package, carpet mats and all weather rubber mats), and my out the door price is $33,400. A savings of $2635.00. This price includes TTL and all other "junk" fees. (Spoiler looks awesome!)

I live in VA, but after having no success locally, and emailing 50+ dealerships nationwide, I purchased from Eddie Wiggins Toyota in GA. They shipped the car to my door with 3 miles on it for $300. I am very pleased with Eddie Wiggins, the salesman was responsive and honest. It was actually a pleasant experience.
I used the delivery checklist (1.06) and had Eddie Wiggins change several door lock and gear settings for me. Email me if you want additional info.
Thank you everbody, as I never could have done this without all your help!

Was the difference between the Edmunds invoce and what the dealer said was the invoice ($556 if my math is right) the regional advertising fee?

If you're going to pretend to be someone else, at least use a different user profile.

    racewalker,

    Congratulations on your Great deal!!!

please let me know the name of the sales person at eddiewiggins toyota. Also, how can i send email to you to get more information on this deal.

Also, what is the delivery checklist that you are referring to?

    Thanks,

The sales person posting his own advertisement on this board and getting caught because he didn't have the foresight to create a different user profile is about the funniest thing I've seen here! Nice catch.

After reviewing all the edmunds data and reading all the posting for the last 6 to 8 weeks I went to buy my Sienna. A dealer had almost the perfect van for me. Sienna LE 8 passenger with the BW(#7) options and some other minor options like floor mats. It was missing the upgraded stereo and DVD. The dealer sticker was $28,119 and their website listed invoice at $25,446, edmunds has the invoice at $24,873.
After an hour and a half of negotiations we agreed on $27,500 with an after market Audiovox dvd system installed with 4 wireless headsets. I was happy enough. Until the standard $349 charge for dealer prep showed up. I refused to pay it and he refused to take it off. Via phone he told me that if I toke delivery that day that the $349 would be taken off. When I arrived to pickup the van they refused to remove the $349. After a much heated discussion I WALKED!!! Millenium Toyota in Hempstead NY.....BUYER BEWARE!!
  • mrzhangweimrzhangwei Member Posts: 4
I emailed back and forth with 20+ dealers about the price and finally asked the top 5 to FAX me a price sheet with walk-away price. Some junk fees showed up on some dealer's fax. So always ask for a walk-away price not the vechile price before you strick a deal. Seems to me some people on this board has been trapped by dealers' trick.
  • snichosnicho Member Posts: 2
Bought from the GJ Toyota dealership for 4.5% over invoice and pretty good deal on my trade. XLE with pkg #16.
  • hombreverdehombreverde Member Posts: 4
I thought it was quite humorous as well... He didn't leave the post up very long. After seriously starting to shop deals, I now realize how many "internet managers" dealers have that say "come in and ask for me, only I can give you this deal." It makes you wonder if dealers have sales people sitting around waiting for an internet inquiry to "walk up" and then be the first one to pounce, just like a virtual show room floor.
  • popcornmompopcornmom Member Posts: 5
We test-drove last weekend and I've placed a bunch of calls (mostly to the internet/fleet managers) in the area to obtain walk-out pricing. I'm consistently finding the local invoice here to be a $733 difference from the Edmunds list invoice (perhaps the regional ad fee?). We're looking to close on a deal this weekend and if we close, I'll post details of the experience and best offer then (which has been quite interesting so far).

I can definitely recommend (at least in this area) getting quotes over the phone via the internet/fleet managers if you like the less pressure, intelligent, no-nonsense style.[Actually, faxed is better!] You still have to go over the details (and extra fees) and negotiate. But it beats in-face, heavy pressure, etc. Having said that, the best deal is coming in so far from a motivated salesperson (which would save us several hundred over the best internet deal). I'll post more end of the weekend.

Members can remove their own posts at any time. Hosts can also remove posts if they violate the Member Agreement. Guess who deleted the shill post :-)

I also have to remove too many posts that tout individuals. Please read the blurb at the top and limit the contact info to the dealer and location. That discourages shill posts by ringers too. Thanks!

My post got edited out, so I'm reposting sanitized version, w/o names. I got Metro Toyota in Chicago to do XLE limited at $2K below MSRP, internet deal. If anyone needs info, email me at rencapcorp@aol.com, I'll forward it. One dealer in Philadelphia that I spoke with told me they'd be doing me a favor if they sold the LTD at $500 off. It's a sweet van and the dealers can't keep em in stock. So getting the discount is pretty tough.

I found a van that I want but the dealer is quite a distance away. Can I buy it without a visit, is that even safe to do?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Assuming you've driven one locally and the seats and ride appeal to you, I don't think there's much risk in buying one from across the country.

You'll need to consider the cost of transport and whether you want it driven to you or carried on a truck (and whether you want it enclosed or not).

The paperwork should have some sort of back out clause so you can refuse delivery if the van arrives damaged or doesn't confirm to the purchase order.

You may want to shop the deal locally one last time before signing on the dotted line too; maybe a local dealer will meet the price to keep your business in town. Good luck!

Just thought I'd add: we've been experiencing problems getting an actual written final price (faxed). This may be because the dealers fear we'd take that to other dealers (although we truthfully don't want to; preferring to hammer out the deal first over the phone and save time). Instead, they're saying X is the base (whatever% over invoice) plus sales tax plus [insert your fee here]. Dealer prep is an example.

My concern is without the literal walk-away number (which they're happy to provide verbally over the phone), there's a high potential "their" final figure won't match "our" final figure. We don't want to end up playing games once we're at the dealership ready to sign. Though we will walk away if it's not the right price.

Also, can anyone confirm we shouldn't pay tax on a dealer prep fee?
  • racewalkerracewalker Member Posts: 20
I just took delivery of an XLE AWD. I live in northern VA and purchased from GA, 12 hours away. I had no problem with the negotiation or delivery of the van, even though the dealer was OOT.
The dealer shipped the van on a trailer for $300.00. The driver had all the paper work. If I had a problem with it, I planned on simply refusing delivery. I faxed the delivery checklist to them in advance and asked them to use it and that I would be using it. The van arrived with 3 miles on it.
The whole experience went very smooooth!
  • fbattlefbattle Member Posts: 40
The only price that matters is the drive out price. If the salesman commits to a specific dollar amount that he says is the drive out price for a specific vehicle, he should honor it. Good luck.
  • shmunsonshmunson Member Posts: 20
As soon as their amount doesn't jive with what they told you earlier, politely get up and leave. Don't look back and hope that the salesman lays down in the road as you try to drive off. But in case he doesn't, make sure you leave your telephone number and politely suggest they call if THEY change their minds. Don't let them control the situation. Its your money.
  • mackabeemackabee Member Posts: 4,709
Before you drive the salesman over remember most salespersons DO NOT have the authority to give you a price, out the door or otherwise. Sales managers determine the final selling price.

I'm interested in purchasing a manufacturer's extended warranty (the 7yr/100K, zero deductible Platinum Plan - Toyota suggested retail cost $1425) for my new Sienna LE.

Does anyone have experience buying extended warranties?

I presume it's possible to negotiate a discount, perhaps a substantial one. If so, can anyone recommend a good buy/negotiating strategy?

My first thought: contact the dealer I purchased my LE from and offer to purchase the warranty thru it, but only if I can do so at a discount. My second: send faxes or emails to local dealerships (of which there are many in the SF Bay and Sacramento areas).
  • cpstechcpstech Member Posts: 24
I ordered an XLE FWD W/ pkg 14/GH, CF, FE for 30,871 from Autofair in Manchester. I won't see it until Feb. Prices on all Siennas are set so I didn't have to negotiate at all...We will have a DVD player installed aftermarket...probably from CARTUNES (lifetime warranty) in Hudson/Pelham.
  • popcornmompopcornmom Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the responses. One of the deals crashed late yesterday. After being told all week the deal was 2% over invoice (but refusing to put it in writing), we were flatly told by salesguy's manager the true final price (which with fees) came out to be 6% over Edmunds invoice, and a little over 3% over the Colorado invoice. [But it was ugly. And given that experience, convinced me we would never buy from this dealer or deal with them.]

The whole thing's made me feel ill- which convinces me to take a little time off to get some balance and perspective. We do have another offer at 1.5% over Colorado invoice on a preorder at a different dealer where they seemed more upfront the entire time; but I qualify that by adding once you add in their fees, etc., the reality is it comes in at 3% over invoice for the final price plus tax.

Mackabee's totally right about the manager's power. Again, what annoys me is sales' implication the final walk-out-the-door is X (whatever percent over invoice, plus sales tax) and in reality, it's NOT. Those extra fees add up and can make a large difference.

Anyone else looking to buy in this area should feel free to request my email if they have questions or want to share experiences. Currently, I'm finding 3% over Colorado invoice to be the best deal. And I'll keep this board posted if we go ahead with the preorder (and what that experience is like).

Note: the pricing I'm using (when I do % over invoice) is final amount before taxes, then add the tax of wherever you live. This seems a clearer figure to use for calculations of the deal being negotiated.

After reading posts here and tried to nego. to invoice+3%, most of dealer in Los Angeles are not welling to do. The most I can get off from MSRP are between $500-$2000. Finally I got a new low offer from dealer 70miles away from LA and he is welling to do $33,000+T&L for MSRP$35,764 (XLE Ltd with package #3). That's close to invoice+4%. I only want Pearl White and they seems to be the only dealer have this color so far. (one dealer has it but only give $500 off MSRP) Anyway I will visit the dealer tomorrow and will follow up with the deal when I got the car.
    Cheers....

Ok I finally had a dealer fax me "their invoice" so i could compare it to edmunds invoice and here it is.
    XLE Limited: $29,652
    Limited Pkge #5: $1,560
    Carpet/Door Sill: $119
    Running Boards: $399
    Destination Charge: 540
    TDA: 593
    Gasoline: 6
    Dealer Holdback: 689
    Whsl. Financial Reserve: 344
    Total: $33,902

So basically the gap between edmunds and what the Northern Calif dealers are saying their invoice is is TDA (what is this-ad fees?), Dealer Holdback (?) and Whsl Financial Reserve (what is this?)
So i would appreciate any comments on specficiallly what the Financial Reserve is and why they would put Holdback into the invoice price.
I do have a dealer who will sell for $500 over this price, but this price already is jam packed with dealer profit-right? thanks.
  • dl_c32dl_c32 Member Posts: 16
If you add the Invoice + Dealer Holdback and Whsl Financial Reserve, it will come to $30685 invoice that we see on edmunds or KBB. I think most dealer are base on this as the XLE Limited FWD's invoice.

Only $1100 over Invoice...Can you provide us the dealer name? Thanks.

Sorry about not returning the answer to your post earlier.

I am picking up my Sienna on 12/18. Extremely excited since it is coming directly from the factory.

Since I was asked not to post anything detailing the dealer, contact, FIRST LETTER OF THE CONTACT NAME, etc. I will leave my email.

If you want, I will be more than happy to tell you who I went through.

NoSpamTDML68@yahoo.com (People get confused thinking it is a 1, it is the letter L)

    Just take out the NoSpam.

    In summary,

XLE Limited with the packages below
    FE
    RB
    HO
    GN
    DH
    CF

    MSRP was $39,909.00
    My Cost $36,912.00
    Savings $2,997.00

Good luck to everyone out there.

Steve, did i keep that one by the rules :)

    dl_c32 in #2779 is correct:

If you add the Invoice + Dealer Holdback and Whsl Financial Reserve, it will come to $30685 invoice that we see on edmunds or KBB...

    My comments:

TDA is the regional advertising fee.

Holdback is profit to the dealership's owner and the sales dept. never sees any of it, except perhaps at the annual Xmas party, and can't negotiate it. When a dealer sells below invoice, he is usually compensated in some other way, like an unadvertised factory-to-dealer incentive, or a cash rebate, which would normally go to the customer.

The $6 gasoline charge is fair and reasonable, IMO. The dealer does not take delivery of a vehicle from the factory with much gas in it, yet delivers it to the customer with a full tank (usually). Actually, I'm surprised this fee isn't much higher. (What am I missing?)

I didn't get a good explanation of the Whsl Financial Reserve on the invoice, either. I wonder if it might have something to do with what used to be known as floor planning - the interest charged the dealership on vehicles in stock. (Maybe the floor planning term is still used.) Typically, a dealer did not pay floor planning for the first two weeks after a vehicle arrived from the manufacturer. After that, interest was charged at something like 1% over the prime rate on an annual basis.

Interest is still charged and can add up quickly, but I don't know the mechanics of it in today's market. However, there is some information about the mechanics elsewhere on this Web site. Certainly, the interest will cut into a dealer's profit (e.g., holdback) if a vehicle sits in inventory very long.

All the more reason why the pressure on the sales staff to sell is so intense.

Thanks to everyone that shares info on this site. I have finally purchased my Sienna last night in time to use for the holidays. Here is how I made my purchase here in No. Cal. I contacted the key dealers mentioned here and some others: Dublin, Sanger, Palo Alto, Roseville, Florin & Folsom Toyota. Most sales people were pretty cool via e-mail or the phone. I'm making my purchase at Florin; I liked the salesperson the most and the deal was excellent. I wasn't able to find our first choice which was an XLE AWD with GK package; the GL package which is much more common includes a DVD, BUT does NOT include side curtain airbags in rows 2 + 3; one dealer purchased a GL package himself and didn't even realize that fact. Anyway, Sanger offered me a Limited FWD with GV for $800 over invoice. Folsom was $800 over invoice on any model (he said it was "fixed" pricing). My car is an XLE with package GH + running boards + mats in Phantom Gray. I paid 31,169 + tax, lic, reg, or close to $500 over invoice (if you include TDA in that invoice price; in No. Cal. all dealers were adding TDA, amount depended on their location). Given the responses from the dealers, the number of cars available is starting to grow; the market is becoming less constrained. There seemed to be too many cars with the DVD +/or NAV in XLE & Limited configurations. I did add on the extended warranty (call me risk averse, but this is the first year of that model and 36K mi for my family is nothing) for $1,295 (Anduril, maybe you can get a better deal) for the Platinum (basically extends manuf. warranty). Unlike other regions of the country, No. Cal. dealers are willing to deal now. If you want to know my salespersons name, send me an e-mail (see my profile) and I'll try to respond promptly. Don't be afraid to lowball the dealer; only offer a few hundred over invoice and see if they'll bite. There are more cars everyday and they all will try to hit sales numbers for December and year end. Good luck all!
  • cpstechcpstech Member Posts: 24
You don't even have to go to NH to put the order in, they'll do it all over the phone & via fax/credit card. You might want to wait until it comes in before you take a trip up north. We only went to the dealer so my husband could look at one. We couldn't drive one since they were all sold. I assured my husband he'd love it since I test drove one at another dealer back in June. Good Luck

That's where I purchased my LE three weeks ago (see my post #2623 for pricing info, but basically $500 or 1.9% over dealer's invoice). Pleasant sales staff to work with.

"I paid....or close to $500 over invoice (if you include TDA in that invoice price; in No. Cal. all dealers were adding TDA, amount depended on their location)."

    Right.

P.S. Did anyone notice that all four of the Sacramento Toyota dealerships have been sued for price collusion. Lawsuit filed 12/10 (www.da.saccounty.net/pr/021210_toyota.htm). The allegation: that all agreed not to advertise new car price deals in the newspaper.

    For crying out loud.

I finally purchased my car this morning. As I indicated above, XLE Limited in Pearl White with GW package and Z1 package. MSRP$35,740 and final price $33,300+T&L. I ended up paid $300 more...the dealer trick me!! When I arrived, they give me $700 more than we agreed on ($33k+T&L). After further negotiation, we end up paid a bit more... This dealer keep showing me there own dealer invoice which is almost $1000 higher than edmund's invoice price. I actually walk 3 times and started my car ready to leave twice. The total 3 sales and 2 mgrs come out try to renego the price.
Anyway, I guess for $2500 off the MSRP, I'm doing not to bad. I love this car! Thank you all for your help!!
  • fbattlefbattle Member Posts: 40
While a small percentage of buyers have done better, $2500 off MSRP is a pretty good price.

http://www.siennaclub.org has a poll on how much buyers paid relative to MSRP. With 298 responses, only 13% paid $3000 or more below MSRP. The median appears to be around $1500 off MSRP. A few paid over MSRP. If this poll is accurate, Edmund's TMV is way off.

By the way, where is the dealership located?
  • dl_c32dl_c32 Member Posts: 16
The dealership is locate between 10FWY & 215FWY...TofSB. After been trick by the dealership, here is the must before visiting the dealer and stop the dealer's trick. Tell them put it in writing by Sales Manager with VIN#, Options and Color then fax you the Sales Price & Final Out-off-door price. Just tell them Davis with XLE Limited Pearl White refer you and they will give you the good price...just go direct to sales Manager, they all know me by now. (I was pretty MAD there when they they give me the higher price.)
    Anyway, good luck!
  • nematodenematode Member Posts: 448
TMV is MSRP. Even in the casual looking we have done at the XLE #12 or the AWD with #17 EVERY dealer said they were discounting. The only dealer that gave us a hard sell was $1000 below for an "order" (Ackerman Toyota St. Louis near Washington University). So unless you buy into the low supply problem you can easily get $1000 below here if you dont mind waiting 6-12 weeks. The ones on the lot are actually selling for more than orders.

    My goal is to get:
Toyota Sienna XLE All Wheel Drive
Preferred Accessory Package (Cargo Nets, Carpet Floor Mats w/Door Sill Protector, First Aid Kit)
    XLE Package #17
    Auto-Dimming Mirror
    $35,348 MSRP
    $31,491 Inv

For betwen $31,991-$32,491. We HAVE to have the van by next October (04). We CAN buy as early as FEB so I've got lots of time to try and haggle the price down. That also gives me plenty of time to sell my car.

My Sienna LE-7 arrived last week. And I am picking it up tonight. My dealer quoted $875 for 6yr/100k and $985 for 7yr/100k, both $0 deductible. I offered them around $600 for 6yr/100k. I told them I get a similar deal from another dealer and they told they will match it. Is it a good deal? My other dealer offered me $585 for '03 Camry few months ago.
  • greg_ygreg_y Member Posts: 26
I am trying to find a Silver LE with the #8 option package. The lowest price I have been able to find is $1350 below MSRP. This is still an 8% markup above invoice. Is this reasonable for this model with this equipment? I am thinking I will wait six months or a year to get one when the supplies are more plentiful. A 4% markup over invoice should be reasonable.
