I am looking at the LE with option package #7. I am basically in the same position where they cannot give a definitive number on the trade-in until we are ready to sign papers. That seems fair to me considering that things can change in the time it takes to get the car on the lot. If there is a drastic change on their end (without a change in the trade-in itself) I will simply walk away from the deal.

We have not talked about a deposit yet, but I would not mind a refundable deposit to hold my spot.

Just bought LE AWD with BI,CF packages with a trade-in(in MA area). If I apply the KBB book value(around $7000) on my trade-in, I paid $915 over invoice on the new vehicle. Is it something good or just so-so? Usually how much can people get on their trade-in comparing to KBB value? Also does anyone have idea about the $400 incentive Toyota is paying to dealer?

Document fees are legit but they can be a big profit center for the dealer. Anything over $50 is suspect, and 50 bucks is probably too generous.

As usual, focus on your out the door price :-)

Rodland said thier deposit was not refundable. Lake-city said they will refund your money at anytime. I have not seen it in writing. I would make sure it is in writing. You just never know what they will try to pull when the van comes in.

I've been in the market for an XLE Limited in Seattle. Lake-city said they would give it to me for $2k over invoice, but Heartland (in Bremerton) said they would do it for only $1k over invoice, and a decent deal on my trade. I know Bremerton is far, but I'm willing to go an extra 30 minutes for $1k. Let's just hope they don't try to pull a quick one when I go to actually pick it up.

I've been following Edmund's Toyota forums for the past two years and found the information shared to be helpful.

However, I don't understand why anyone would consider the purchase of an extended warranty at $1,500 or even $500. You're purchasing a Toyota...a vehicle known for reliability. Chances are very slim that you'll ever have covered repairs that equal the cost of the warranty. My '97 Avalon has 140,000 miles. The only nonstandard-maintenance expense I've had was to replace the eccentric on the windshield wiper motor...$187. And that was at 110,000 miles and would not have been covered by an extended warranty. Other than scheduled fluids/filters/plugs replacement, the only expenses I've incurred are for new brake pads at 125,000 miles and new struts at 135,000 miles.

Save your hard-earned bucks and forego the extended warranty!

I just read my platinum warranty fine print (always a good idea !).
STEP 1 says: Contact your selling dealer for all repair work. If this is not possible, then you must contact the Administrator PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH REPAIRS.

The dealership I bought mine from (for $925) is 2 miles from my home. The dealerships mentioned in post 3604 (KC summers etc.) are several thousand miles away. This seems to imply that I will have to get a clearance from Toyota before I get anything done using the warranty if I were to buy it from KC summers etc. A very annoying "feature". I'm not sure whether its the difference. I'll have to think about it.

THe toyota warranties can be canceled in the first 30 days for full refund, but only if you have paid for it separately in cash, and not as part of the car financing deal. Don't put the two items on the same sales contract ! The dealer will automatically put the warranty as a financed item and then if you go to get a refund, he will say that the "bank" will take payments off the end of your loan, i.e. you have to wait 3-5 years (whatever the length of your loan) to get the money back.
  • amritsariamritsari Member Posts: 6
Err.... I've been paying $700-$1000 per year for auto insurance for the last ten years. I've never been in an accident. Does that mean it was a bad deal ? Bottom line is how much is peace of mind worth ? $500-$900 over seven years doesn't sound bad for sleeping soundly at night.
  • jdeibjdeib Member Posts: 70
I have the same thought on extended warranties on Toyota's. I would agree that usually they seem in my opinion to be a waste of money. However I disagree when it comes to the Sienna, I think it is worth it.

On my 1992 Camry, I did 137,xxx in 10 years with no major problems. The minor things weren't that bad(new power antenna, new power window regulator). My 2002 Camry is at 46,xxx with nothing so far, major or minor.

However, my parents purchased a new Sienna XLE in March and I recommended that they get the extended warranty. My mother, who is a one of smartest shoppers I know, asked me why I would recommend a warranty when I didn't get one on any of my Toyotas?

My response was that the level of power equipment on the Sienna concerned me, especially the three power doors and the six disc changer in the dash. No matter how good Toyotas are, those motors, relays, etc. in the doors have a good possibility to be a source of failure in the time they will own the van. And if they go just once in the time they own the van, the warranty will have paid for itself.

I doubt that they would ever have a problem with the powertrain, but who knows? This is a new Transmission and Engine.

If you get a good deal on the Toyota warranty I would go for it.

The bottom line is that IT'S GOOD ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA (including Canada). "Selling dealer" here means the one sold you the vehicle not the warranty. However, whoever takes on the repair job is the one who will contact the Administrator.

One more point, the finance guy might still be holding a grudge against you. But the service department will not care as who sold you the vehicle, who sold you the contract, or for how much. They will NOT care if the finance guy had made enough! All they want is more work!!

The dealer I bought mine from is about 10 miles away because they had better pricing. But that's the end of the relationship I have with them. I will be using the dealer a few city blocks away for all my service needs. Again, it's YOUR choice, not the selling dealer's.

[THe toyota warranties can be canceled in the first 30 days for full refund, but only if you have paid for it separately in cash, and not as part of the car financing deal. It sounds like making a $925 prepayment to your loan. It does not change the monthly payment. But it will shorten the life of the loan as well as the total interests you'll be paying. IMHO, not a bad way to get more than four hundred dollars back.

I'm wondering if anyone has recently purchased a CE model with the trim package that includes the side curtain airbags (I believe it is package A1) and if so what the purchase price was.

I am in Louisiana but I'd be interested to know what people are paying anywhere. Thank you.

Just ordered a Sienna LTD with the HO package from Autofair in New Hampshire for $35400 + Tax + Title. Is this a reasonable deal now? I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get in my choice of color (Salsa Red)!

I used to think like you, but when I purchased my Sienna in March I decided to go with the Platinum extended warranty because:

It's an AWD model, has three power doors, and is the first year of production. I paid $800 for the 7yr/100K/$0ded warranty, and I figure it will more than pay for itself if even one of these power door motors fail within 100K miles. It's hardly a fool's bet, as you imply.

'97 Avalons weren't that complicated-- I'd have skipped the warranty back then, too.

I am starting the looking process and can seem to get quotes from dealers within about 50 miles from my house. How can I compare prices with different states as I can travel anywhere for a good deal.

Don't come to the seattle area. Sienna's are few and far between. When you can find one here the want 1200-2000 over invoice for them. Good luck

I can get the CE with package #3(all the airbags, traction control, 4 wheel disc antilock etc) for $25,476 out the door. Does this seem like a good deal?

The KBB value is around $7000. Should I expect more or less from dealership? And usually how much?
  • rhopfrhopf Member Posts: 29
I just tried to trade in my car KBB said 10,250 they offered 9,500 and would not come up at all. It all depends if they have the car you want and how motivated they are to sell it. If the car you want has been on there lot for awhile they might give you more for your trade-in than they would if the car you want is hard to get. Good luck

I will be purchasing a Phanton Gray 2004 Sienna XLE with option package #13(GC) in the next week or so. I have contacted a few dealerships and all have agreed that I am going to have order it. The best price I have recieved so far is 35k including tax/license. Is this a good price or should I keep looking? Any other tips you have would be appreciated. I live in the san diego area. Thanks. Great site by the way.

I live in Carlsbad and drove 100 miles North for my deal. It's the largest Toyota dealer (26K) total units annually. Your chances of getting something off the lot are greater using this dealer. If they don't have it, most likely it's already ordered and on it's way. If you're willing to drive up, you could do a fleet deal over the phone with the guy I dealt with, let me know.

Thanks for the info. You can shoot me an email at anyinfo4me@yahoo.com. Details would be great. Thanks again.

Without knowing your sales tax rate, I'm assuming as the following:

    30259--invoice (XLE w/pkg 13)
    00500--above invoice (shouldn't pay more)
    00045--doc fee (pretty standard)
    00200--registration (0.65%)
    00005--tire fee ($1 each)
    02465--sales tax (8%, guessing)
    -------------------------------
    33474--grand total

    Hope this helps!

I purchased it from my dealer, Diehl Toyota in western PA, if that's what you mean by 'agent.' Based on info from this board, I think $800 for the 7/100/zero Platainum warranty is $25 over dealer cost. I have no idea if they'll sell it to you at that price if you don't purchase the vehicle there.
  • rcegglrceggl Member Posts: 31
Just saw this--sure hope you did not pay this price. The $1345 is simply a gift to the dealer.

Got the car on June 1st from a dealer in Northampton, MA. I really enjoyed the drive home ....

Silver '04 Sienna XLE Ltd AWD with:

Not bad, not bad. Less then 2% over invoice. Congrats on your new ride.

I’m signing the papers tomorrow for XLE Limited FWD with HO and CF for $36,000 + tags ($95) + tax. I’m also adding running boards and rear spoiler for another $700.

    I'm in Staten Island, NY.
  • momstruck1momstruck1 Member Posts: 206
dvd , rear spoiler and 6 disc changer ,floor mats etc . I paid 34,400 but added the extended protection plan and window etching. so it came out to more but I purchased this van and when I was leasing not as concerned as I am now that I purchased. Did you deal with the toyota dealer on SI alex ? I have only had the van 3 weeks but I love it. I was told i paid only $800 over the invoice and I did it all over the internet. Not too many visits to the dealership and with kids that is always a blessing.

I'm planning on buying a Sienna XLE AWD Pkg 17. We live in Denver. I was wondering what kind of deals or which dealerships have given better deals. What kind of %over invoice.
  • alex800alex800 Member Posts: 7
Yes, placed an order today with the dealer in Staten Island. They were pretty good in terms of pricing. Came very close to Autofair.com price. It wasn’t worth it for me to go to NH….

Expecting my new silver Sienna Limited FWD with HO, RB, RF and CF by the end of the month.

Thanks to this great forum. It really helped me to get the best possible price.

We put a deposit on a Sienna LE w/package #7 in NYC area for $25,848. #7 has all the big issue features we wanted (VSC, TRAC, DRL, side curtain airbags, passenger-side power sliding door).

    Base 25,848
    Moonroof 1,500
    Tax/fees 1,985

Total: $29,333 - How does that sound? Did we get a good deal?

We compromised a bit on the package. Originally we wanted #11 or #10 with added sunroof. Sounds like these are almost impossible to get in the the New York region. This was VERY frustrating at first (why print a national brochure if you can't get all trim levels and options nation-wide?). But maybe Toyota did us a favor - maybe our 22 month old (and his sibling due in 4 wks)doesn't need a DVD player. My husband really wanted the in-glass antenna and I wanted the JBL stereo but sacrificing both has saved us $2-$3,000 or more. Plus, we'll have this thing taken care of before the new baby comes.

Anyone care to confirm or dispute our success? Anyone else have similar issues with LE #10 or #11? Thanks!

I just ordered a 2004 Sienna CE with pkg #3 (VSC, traction control, daytime running lights, 3rd row air bags, etc.) and auto-dimming mirror for $23,890. That's including destination and title fees. As best I can figure, that's about $729 over invoice ($20,658 CE + 1,764 pkg 3 + $540 dest. + $199 mirror). (I couldn't find invoice on the mirror which sells, unistalled, for $199.) What's weird is that my first offer of +5% (about $1,100) over invoice was flatly turned down. Then two days later, this offer of +3%. . . The dealer is an independent specializing in Hondas and Toyotas in a mid-sized town in beautiful South Dakota.

I am looking for the same package and live in Northern, NJ. What dealer did you purchase from?
    Was this thru the internet?

    Thanks

We're also looking at this model. We live in northern Indiana now and will move to the Seattle area this summer. From the on-line research I've done, it seems like we can get a better deal in the midwest than in the pacific northwest. Is this true? Could somebody from the Seattle region on this board give us some idea? Thanks!
  • bshawnbshawn Member Posts: 8
Invoice reported by Toyota dealers includes ~$500 in advt which the dealers make on top of the usual 3% holdback, performance allowances (on made-to-order models), and dealer incentives (for June/July). On the $25K LE model invoice, they make atleast $1800. That is a good margin for internet customers.

Be a smart buyer and stick to invoice (or below!). Be firm and tell them - "This is my last offer. For me this car is worth $xx,xxx. If you accept this offer, I will buy the van from you ASAP. If not, I am not in a hurry and can wait for the 05 Odyssey to be released."

Midwest dealers are offering Siennas at $100 over invoice or even lower after some deliberation.

Best of luck and lets show them its a buyer's market.
  • kyleetwinskyleetwins Member Posts: 4
Where in the Midwest are they offering $100 over invoice? I've been looking in Ohio and Indiana and all I find is $1000-$1500 off MSRP.
  • tamu2002tamu2002 Member Posts: 758
Thanks for the info! So it IS a lot cheaper to buy in the midwest huh?

I didn't know it's a buyer's market when it comes to imports too :) Frankly, I've been looking at domestic vans and never really checked out Honda and Toyota. And when I finally checked the prices, wow, they're not that much higher than the Windstar and Venture, for a reasonably loaded van anyway.
BTW, from what I read, can a Sienna be made to your specific order?
  • artiedartied Member Posts: 2
There seems to be a low supply of these minivans in the Phoenix area. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a dealership with good availability and prices in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe areas?
  • bshawnbshawn Member Posts: 8
Don't look at newspaper ads. Those are for lathargic couch potatoes who wouldn't mind paying MSRP. Almost all dealerships I know look at internet customers as additional topping on their sales budgets. So even if they make marginal profits - they are satisfied.

Did you try edmunds.com, invoicedealers.com, autobytel.com or similar services. U should be offered $500 over invoice off the bat and then you can work ur way down. I strongly recommend you find emails for all local dealerships and then approach them with your best offer.

Performance Toyota, Beechmont Toyota, Ed Martin Toyota and Butler Toyota are your best bets.

Tamu, YES you can order your Sienna with different options. Usually it takes around 3-4 weeks turnaround time. And U are right - Domestics just don't offer the quality or value.

    Best of luck.
  • rhopfrhopf Member Posts: 29
Don't wait tell you get to Seattle to get your van. I have been trying to buy one for a month now. The dealers don't have them and when they do the best price I have found is $1200 over invoice for a CE $1500 over invoice for a LE. Anybody that say's they can get one for $100 over or at invoice has not gone out and tried yet. At least not in the seattle area.

Hudson Toyota in Jersey City. We went to Autoland (Rt. 22 in Springfield) first but they never seemed to have much in stock (and weren't very good at calling us back). Morrisstown was even worse - one Sienna on the lot. For some reason Hudson had many more Sienna's in stock - not sure if that's because it's a bigger dealership or because demand is not as high for minivans closer to the city?

I think we got a good deal - for the NYC region, anyway. Seems like car buyers around here are willing to pay up so they don't offer LE with packages 10 or 11 because they know they can talk buyers into going for the XLE for 5,000 more. Have you had a similar experience? I would be intersted to hear what you think. Good luck!
  • tamu2002tamu2002 Member Posts: 758
Thanks! Everything seems to be more expensive there. It only makes sense that cars are too I guess. The thing is, I'm starting a new job in the Seattle area and we can only afford this auto loan with my new income. Chances are we won't get a good rate or any offer for that matter if we apply now in Indiana. I just called a few lenders and confirmed that. Looks like we're gonna have to wait till we get to Seattle this fall. Hopefull the supply situation will get better by the end of the year there?

    Hi all,
With the birth of our second child, we are suddenly in the market for a minivan (our current 2002 elantra gt is pretty tight w/ two car seats and a stroller). I will prolly be buying an 04 odyssey or 04 sienna. My question is, when do you guys think would be the best time to buy the 04 sienna...seems like the prices our getting better and better everyday (although you guys in seattle seem to have it tough), and with the 05 odyssey coming out, i've got to think the deals will be getting even better. I'm looking at a CE or LE (not more than around 25k), and i can wait for a few more months if that will save me a significant amount of money. Whaddya think? In august/september w/ the new oddy out, are the prices going to be that much better? How about 4-6 months from now? I guess, ultimately, when is the best time to strike? Thanks to all in advance...

    -shrink

btw-- i live in southern ohio, in case anyone's gotten a good deal near there lately.

    momstruck1,

Would you mind sending along the email address of the salesperson you dealt with? Sounds like you got a great deal on something very similar to what I'd like. Dealership shopping with the kids isn't very much fun. Also, how much did they charge for your extended protection? Thanks!
