I was interested in a Quest for about a week until I saw it in person and drove it back to back with the Sienna and Honda Odyssey.
The seats seemed thin and made cheap. The center pod is in my opinion not very attractive and very unhandy.
On the other hand it was about 2,000 cheaper than the Sienna we looked at but with good reason. When we visited the Nissan dealership we had just been across the street at the Toyota dealer and when the Nissan dealer asked us what we were looking for I told him either the Quest or Sienna he told us, and I quote, "I am going to be honest here, we cannot beat the Sienna in a lot of areas but the Quest is a solid dependable van with some unique features and we will make you a good deal."
The Sienna beat it quality wise hands down. The safety features on the Sienna are really good and in my opinion the seats and the rest of the interior is very plush. After three months of research, test drives and lots of opinions from minivan drivers on this site and beyond we decided on the Sienna and I can honestly say without any regrets!
When people talk about prices at invoice, below or above invoice, etc., are you including the total for things like running boards, those ridiculous Groups A,B, and C that include things like first aid kits, or the cost of rear spoilers, mud flaps, etc?
I have been frustrated that most of the Siennas seem to have these little add-ons that add up to several thousand dollars. For example, I am looking at an XLE with package 4 with a MSRP of 34, 952 -- the additional two thousand plus dollars comes from a Group C for $1379 plus running boards for $599 plus some other junk like special coating to make it quiet, etc. The dealer quoted a price of 30,600 after rebate, plus my dh negotiated a $500 product assist direct from Toyota, bringing it to 30,100 (32,555 OTD in Texas). But I am having trouble figuring out if that is a good deal because it is almost 5000 under MSRP or a crummy deal because of all the other little add-ons. We did want a running board, but the other stuff we could live without.
Can you please help us evaluate this deal? Thanks for your help.
Thanks,
Jeannine Fallon

After keeping tabs on this forum for a while, I finally made the leap and sent a request for quotes. All 5 dealers replied something like "we'd love to do business with you, when can we call you or you stop in?" I had to be very firm and replied that all I wanted from them was their lowest price on what I was looking for. This was XLE AWD pkg. 9 (heated seats, curtain airbags) wasn't picky about color. Finally got some real numbers and also called into Fitzmall and Darcar. The lowest price I got was from Toyota North, in Mt. Kisco NY at $31,500 including floormats, wheel locks and 2 wireless headphones, before tax and registration and after deducting the $1000 rebate. Called all other dealers and asked if they could match - they said take the price and run if it's for real. Lastly, I gave my local dealer (Toyota of Greenwich) a chance to match it and without much trouble, they came in at $31,800 (no wheel locks). The $300 difference was well worth dealing with a shop only a few miles from my house versus 45 minute drive, so I took it.
Here are the exact numbers:
XLE AWD pkg. 9 + floormats and 2 headphones Silver shadow pearl
$32800 (base price)
-$1000 (rebate)
+1979 (tax)
+ 163 (registration)
+ 195 (dealer conveyancefee)
$34,137 OTD INCLUDING EVERYTHING
Now that it's a done deal, I probably wont' be checking this forum, but good luck to all and hope this helps. The info in here really helped me.
Let us know how you faired.

Last Fall I was selected to be on an opinion poll where I got to see and drive four minivans. The vans were: Saturn Relay, Freestar, Town and Country and Odyssey. The Saturn rode the best AFTER the Honda. None of the van could come close to the fit and finish of the Odyssey.
I am now in the market, after only 50,000 miles, for a new van. I have driven the almost perfect Sienna and will soon again drive an Odyssey. I have learned my lesson.
BTW: My van is only worth about $11,000 in trade (I paid $29,000). A similar 3 year old Odyssey or Sienna is worth about $6,000 more.

Are we close enough that if we wait a few weeks we will get a significant discount on a new 2005 model?
thanks!
Thanks!
- Is this a good deal?
- What questions do I need to ask before showing up at the dealership?
Please advise. This will be our first minivan, not to mention the first Toyota in our household. We've never bought a new car before so this is like a totally new experience for us.
We fell in love with the Sienna after renting one for a trip to Florida. We put close to 2000 miles on it without as much as a squeak.
I need all the help I can get. Thanks.
Can someone please tell me what are the following charge/fee for:
T.D.A. $376
M.A.F. $349
2%HoldBack MSRP $501
PIO holdBack $91
1%Finance Reserve MSRP $250
thanks in advance.
M.A.F. Not sure.. Possibly a regional advertising fund?
The holdbacks and finance reserves are rebated to the dealer later, to help pay for inventory financing..
Those numbers are all part of the dealer's invoice price.... If you deal from "invoice plus", then they will be part of the price.. But, if you negotiate a straight dollar amount for the car, they shouldn't be adding any of these to your deal...

Dealer agree to give me LE 8 passenger $200 above invoice.
However, the invoice he gave me for a standard LE 8 passenger is:
MFG Base Prices $21819
+ Detination$595
+ Total holdback/fee(TDA,MAF,2%HB,PIOHB,1%FinanceReserve)$1567
= $23981.
The invoice from edmunds.com is $23135.
What could have been the difference between these two numbers($846)?
thanks

If you are looking at a $30K car, and you find here on Edmunds that the invoice price is $26,700... then, you follow the follow the prices paid thread, and find that the low end of selling prices is $27,200-$27,500... then you have all you need to know...
Go to the dealer and offer $27K... Hopefully, end up with a price between there and $27,500... If not, move on to the next dealer and try again.. Assuming you don't have a trade-in, it is a pretty simple process.... though, it may be somewhat frustrating...
Conversely, you go to the dealer.... Offer him "Invoice plus $500".. He agrees... You agree... But, when the offer gets down on paper, it isn't the $27,200 that you thought... It is $28,400!! On his invoice, there are advertising fees, PDI fees, sales training fees, etc, etc... He says his invoice is $27,900.. maybe it is.. but, who cares? If you are reasonably certain that the car is selling for $27,500 or under, why would you pay that much?
Having a good idea of the dealer's cost is a good thing... Basing your offer on what the dealer's interpretation of his cost is just asking for trouble... Let him worry about his cost... you concentrate on what you want to pay (that you've learned from your research).
I make it sound easier than what it is.... The dealer's job is to get you to pay the most that he can... Your job is to pay the least... It isn't always easy, but it can be done..

I am planning to buy a new 2006 Sienna XLE Ltd FWD with HT package and running boards. After reading this absolutely great forum and other articles I went to the dealer and got a quote of $37500 before TTL. Edmunds.com does not have yet the invoice prices for the 2006 models, but I checked the kbb.com and they show an invoice of $36449. $1000 above the kbb invoice is a decent price or should I negotiate for less?
Thank you very much,
Durano
I know 06 Odyssey is sell at MSRP or close to MSRP now. So $1000 over invoice for 06 Sienna seems to be a good deal. But I would try to negotiate more. It won't hurt.
Would it be worth it to go to the regular sales floor of another dealer that has this vehicle and offer $35,131 for the vehicle and settle for anything less than $36,900?
PLEASE HELP.
I would recommend sending out email or faxes to dealers stating the price you want under invoice and ask them to send you a confirmation on the vechicle and out the door price broken out. Hope this helps...
I solicited qoutes from many dealerships within and without my state. Let me know what State you are in.
Thanks.
I decided to use Edmund's TMV as my benchmark on LE package #5. I contacted many dealerships soliciting qoutes. Figures given ranged between 25-27k (rebate included). I thought to try one more and that last one clinched my business. Offered me $24,811 (freight and $750.00 rebate included). This was about &700.00 below TMV. I thought this was too good to be true. Showed up, test drove the van. No hidden fees, hussles etc.
Picked my van today. Very happy with the deal I got.
MSRP (including destination and 750 rebate): $28950, Invoice (including destination and 750 rebate): $25077.
Edited to add: also includes floor mats/door sill protector list at $196 on the window sticker.
