If money is all you worried about then the Quest is the way to go for sure, however, if you are concerned with safety and quality then the Sienna is unbeatable.

I was interested in a Quest for about a week until I saw it in person and drove it back to back with the Sienna and Honda Odyssey.

The seats seemed thin and made cheap. The center pod is in my opinion not very attractive and very unhandy.
On the other hand it was about 2,000 cheaper than the Sienna we looked at but with good reason. When we visited the Nissan dealership we had just been across the street at the Toyota dealer and when the Nissan dealer asked us what we were looking for I told him either the Quest or Sienna he told us, and I quote, "I am going to be honest here, we cannot beat the Sienna in a lot of areas but the Quest is a solid dependable van with some unique features and we will make you a good deal."

The Sienna beat it quality wise hands down. The safety features on the Sienna are really good and in my opinion the seats and the rest of the interior is very plush. After three months of research, test drives and lots of opinions from minivan drivers on this site and beyond we decided on the Sienna and I can honestly say without any regrets!

dc_driver... I was looking at LE package #5 or #6 at darcars. Their internet prices for #5 are currently around $24400-24600. But, given your information, you bought the car with #7 (this package is about $750 more expensive than #5 in invoice price) at $24243, it seems to be a very good price. Can you let me know more detail about how to get the price? You can contact me for more information. Thanks.

I just drove away with a '05 Limited in Phantom Gray w/ Stone interior from Atlanta Toyota. Without either package (DVD or NAV), I got it for $32136 OTD (rebate included, TTL not). Price includes carmats and a sunroof deflector (about a $350 value). MSRP is about $36450. Invoice was $31588 plus destination brought it to $32153 before accessories. My calculations are the deal was about 2% over invoice when you include the rebate.

I'll admit upfront that I am a total newbie and that I can tell that y'all know what you are doing more than I ever will. So please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I searched and tried to find the answer but did not succeed.

When people talk about prices at invoice, below or above invoice, etc., are you including the total for things like running boards, those ridiculous Groups A,B, and C that include things like first aid kits, or the cost of rear spoilers, mud flaps, etc?

I have been frustrated that most of the Siennas seem to have these little add-ons that add up to several thousand dollars. For example, I am looking at an XLE with package 4 with a MSRP of 34, 952 -- the additional two thousand plus dollars comes from a Group C for $1379 plus running boards for $599 plus some other junk like special coating to make it quiet, etc. The dealer quoted a price of 30,600 after rebate, plus my dh negotiated a $500 product assist direct from Toyota, bringing it to 30,100 (32,555 OTD in Texas). But I am having trouble figuring out if that is a good deal because it is almost 5000 under MSRP or a crummy deal because of all the other little add-ons. We did want a running board, but the other stuff we could live without.

Can you please help us evaluate this deal? Thanks for your help.

Hi Even we bought a Sienna CE with Pkg 1 + Floor Mats + window tint (Atlanta Region) for $21,571, price includes all the rebates without tax and tags. I am very happy with the van. :):)

I am considering leasing a 2005 Sienna....anyone know what the current residual values and money factors are (or a good estimate to use for my calculations)? I am thinking of 36mo lease with 12K miles per year. Thanks!
  • irgirg Member Posts: 197
You are probably better off leasing a 2006 than a 2005. The residual will be better on the newest model. If you were to buy, than getting a 2005 model would be to your advantage. I leased a 2005 XLE (base) in May. The residuals change each month. If I had leased it in March or April, I probably would have gotten a better rate. But still, my lease is $359/month with $0 down, and that included NY state taxes too. 36 month, 12k/year. I leased it from Fitzmall.com in Maryland. The interesting this about my lease (I was their first lease customer from NY) is that I didn't have to pay any acquisition fee. Nothing for NY, and nothing for Maryland. If I had leased this van in NY, the acquisition fee would have been $1050. Nice bit of savings. The price of my XLE was $26,615. It is a base model, but pretty loaded being an XLE. But I would wait for the 2006 models if you want to lease.

Sorry for the late update, but I purchased this vehicle on July 30 and left the country for several weeks. The dealer held it for me until I returned this week to pick it up. Here's how it went for me:

After keeping tabs on this forum for a while, I finally made the leap and sent a request for quotes. All 5 dealers replied something like "we'd love to do business with you, when can we call you or you stop in?" I had to be very firm and replied that all I wanted from them was their lowest price on what I was looking for. This was XLE AWD pkg. 9 (heated seats, curtain airbags) wasn't picky about color. Finally got some real numbers and also called into Fitzmall and Darcar. The lowest price I got was from Toyota North, in Mt. Kisco NY at $31,500 including floormats, wheel locks and 2 wireless headphones, before tax and registration and after deducting the $1000 rebate. Called all other dealers and asked if they could match - they said take the price and run if it's for real. Lastly, I gave my local dealer (Toyota of Greenwich) a chance to match it and without much trouble, they came in at $31,800 (no wheel locks). The $300 difference was well worth dealing with a shop only a few miles from my house versus 45 minute drive, so I took it.

    Here are the exact numbers:

XLE AWD pkg. 9 + floormats and 2 headphones Silver shadow pearl

    $32800 (base price)
    -$1000 (rebate)
    +1979 (tax)
    + 163 (registration)
    + 195 (dealer conveyancefee)

    $34,137 OTD INCLUDING EVERYTHING

Now that it's a done deal, I probably wont' be checking this forum, but good luck to all and hope this helps. The info in here really helped me.

I was wondering how you experience is going. I am also looking for a Toyota, Did you try Kirkland toyota, they have a web site that looks good. Also if you do a search of this forum on Seattle, A person lists all there experiences with various Toyota dealerships. It was posted I believe in January. They liked Appleway in Spokane, which is where I am from.

Let us know how you faired.

We looked today and got the salesperson down to $20,500 Out the Door price, but that was for the base CE 8 passenger; no window tint, carpet mats, etc. Still a great deal, but the Saturn people gave us a better deal. I wanted to go with the Toyota and my husband wanted the Relay; he won. We came home tonight with a 2005 Relay with dvd, dark tint and some other cool things the Toyota didn't have. I do kind of have buyers remorse, though, and I really, really was looking forward to fitting 8 into our van!

I am in the process of buying an XLE with package 13 - HX. This package 13 is different from the package 13 (CP) listed at Edmunds. The HX appears to be the same as the package 14 (CX) at Edmunds - has the same features and the same MSRP. Toyota makes things really confusing, doesn't it. The brochures that the dealers hand out don't even go beyond package 12.

    Anway, the numbers are
    MSRP: 33,863 (base + dest+package HX+ floor mats)
    Edmund's invoice (with package 14): 26,009 + 565 +3148 = 29,722
    Price paid: 28,674 (after 1000 rebate) + 270 (registration + title + inspection + documentation) + 5% tax

    Paying cash, no trade-in.

I am not going to tell you you made a mistake with the Relay. I have an '03 Olds Silhouette which, aside from a safer front end and some freshening, is the same thing. The Relay is built on a 1997 platform that has had little changes over the years except for the '05 safer front. The Olds was the top of the line for GM in '03. It rides quietly and comfortably and gets decent mpg. It rattles, squeaks and has terrible fit and finish. In two years the leather seats cracked along the seat base. I would not buy another GM van.

Last Fall I was selected to be on an opinion poll where I got to see and drive four minivans. The vans were: Saturn Relay, Freestar, Town and Country and Odyssey. The Saturn rode the best AFTER the Honda. None of the van could come close to the fit and finish of the Odyssey.

I am now in the market, after only 50,000 miles, for a new van. I have driven the almost perfect Sienna and will soon again drive an Odyssey. I have learned my lesson.

BTW: My van is only worth about $11,000 in trade (I paid $29,000). A similar 3 year old Odyssey or Sienna is worth about $6,000 more.

Are we close enough that if we wait a few weeks we will get a significant discount on a new 2005 model?

This forum has proved invaluable to our search for a minivan. Its a foregone conclusion that our minds are settled on a Sienna minivan. We are leaning towards the LE pkg #5. I have contacted a number of dealers for quotes. The Lowest quote I got was $24,772.+ tax & tags (internet price).

    - Is this a good deal?
    - What questions do I need to ask before showing up at the dealership?

Please advise. This will be our first minivan, not to mention the first Toyota in our household. We've never bought a new car before so this is like a totally new experience for us.

We fell in love with the Sienna after renting one for a trip to Florida. We put close to 2000 miles on it without as much as a squeak.

I need all the help I can get. Thanks.

Dealer show me the vehicle price and standard equipment lists for a LE.
Can someone please tell me what are the following charge/fee for:

    T.D.A. $376
    M.A.F. $349
    2%HoldBack MSRP $501
    PIO holdBack $91
    1%Finance Reserve MSRP $250

    thanks in advance.

    T.D.A. Toyota Dealer Advertising

M.A.F. Not sure.. Possibly a regional advertising fund?

The holdbacks and finance reserves are rebated to the dealer later, to help pay for inventory financing..

Those numbers are all part of the dealer's invoice price.... If you deal from "invoice plus", then they will be part of the price.. But, if you negotiate a straight dollar amount for the car, they shouldn't be adding any of these to your deal...

    Thanks for your fast response.

Dealer agree to give me LE 8 passenger $200 above invoice.
However, the invoice he gave me for a standard LE 8 passenger is:
    MFG Base Prices $21819
    + Detination$595
    + Total holdback/fee(TDA,MAF,2%HB,PIOHB,1%FinanceReserve)$1567
    = $23981.
The invoice from edmunds.com is $23135.
What could have been the difference between these two numbers($846)?

    thanks
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,589
Edmunds invoice numbers will definitely not include advertising fees, as those are usually regional in nature and will vary... I would say that is most likely the difference between the two invoice prices..

Pardon my asking, but can you please say alittle more about 'invoice plus' versus straight dollar amount negotiated for a car?

    Thanks
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,589
I see it this way.... Do the research on the car.. Get all of the info you can on the dealer's cost structure and what other's are paying for the same vehicle.. Determine a fair price... offer a little less, and settle for what is fair..

If you are looking at a $30K car, and you find here on Edmunds that the invoice price is $26,700... then, you follow the follow the prices paid thread, and find that the low end of selling prices is $27,200-$27,500... then you have all you need to know...

Go to the dealer and offer $27K... Hopefully, end up with a price between there and $27,500... If not, move on to the next dealer and try again.. Assuming you don't have a trade-in, it is a pretty simple process.... though, it may be somewhat frustrating...

Conversely, you go to the dealer.... Offer him "Invoice plus $500".. He agrees... You agree... But, when the offer gets down on paper, it isn't the $27,200 that you thought... It is $28,400!! On his invoice, there are advertising fees, PDI fees, sales training fees, etc, etc... He says his invoice is $27,900.. maybe it is.. but, who cares? If you are reasonably certain that the car is selling for $27,500 or under, why would you pay that much?

Having a good idea of the dealer's cost is a good thing... Basing your offer on what the dealer's interpretation of his cost is just asking for trouble... Let him worry about his cost... you concentrate on what you want to pay (that you've learned from your research).

I make it sound easier than what it is.... The dealer's job is to get you to pay the most that he can... Your job is to pay the least... It isn't always easy, but it can be done..

    regards,
    kyfdx

    Hello,

I am planning to buy a new 2006 Sienna XLE Ltd FWD with HT package and running boards. After reading this absolutely great forum and other articles I went to the dealer and got a quote of $37500 before TTL. Edmunds.com does not have yet the invoice prices for the 2006 models, but I checked the kbb.com and they show an invoice of $36449. $1000 above the kbb invoice is a decent price or should I negotiate for less?

    Thank you very much,
    Durano

Are any dealers selling 06 Sienna already? I am waiting to buy one too.

I know 06 Odyssey is sell at MSRP or close to MSRP now. So $1000 over invoice for 06 Sienna seems to be a good deal. But I would try to negotiate more. It won't hurt.

I am looking at buying the vehicle above and have contacted fleet dealers in my area. Now after reading this forum I am questioning if the $500.00 over invoice through the fleet department is actually a good deal or not (because of all the holdbacks, etc.). They are offering $36,900 ($36,400 + $500), but Edmunds is showing $35,131 for invoice of same vehicle.

Would it be worth it to go to the regular sales floor of another dealer that has this vehicle and offer $35,131 for the vehicle and settle for anything less than $36,900?

I just got a XLE w/ Nav and DVD for 500 under invoice (Package 8 I think). Beware the Edmunds invoice price does not include the Toyota advertising fee that can run around $500.

I would recommend sending out email or faxes to dealers stating the price you want under invoice and ask them to send you a confirmation on the vechicle and out the door price broken out. Hope this helps...

Yes, help is on the way. I think $24,500 for package 1 is a little too high. I just picked my 2005 Sienna LE package 5 today. Paid $24,811.00 (freight, cargo net and a pair of cordless phones included).

I solicited qoutes from many dealerships within and without my state. Let me know what State you are in.

    Thanks.
  • mamimami Member Posts: 8
Thanks for helping me out. You'd make a good sales consultant! Followed your advise. My initial goal was to spend $23,000 on a 2005 model with 3 row curtain airbags, traction and stability control as must have. Of course, I realized too quickly that I'd have to wait long to purchase one at that price.

I decided to use Edmund's TMV as my benchmark on LE package #5. I contacted many dealerships soliciting qoutes. Figures given ranged between 25-27k (rebate included). I thought to try one more and that last one clinched my business. Offered me $24,811 (freight and $750.00 rebate included). This was about &700.00 below TMV. I thought this was too good to be true. Showed up, test drove the van. No hidden fees, hussles etc.

Picked my van today. Very happy with the deal I got.

Have a quote for 2005 XLE w/ Package #6 for 29,192 which seems to be $1000 under invoice....is this a good deal? I'm debating spending $300 more to get a 2006 Odyssey EXL which i believe has same feature set but will be 2006 model - why is sienna invoice so much higher for same features as Odyssey? - Any thoughts?

Bought a New 05 Sienna LE 8-PASS Package #6 today from CARMAX in MD for $25,218($750 rebate and destination included, this is a no-haggling price)) plus TTL and $99 precessing fee. The whole experience is wondeful, no different from buying a appliance from sears. Here are the pricing information from Edmunds for this model:
MSRP (including destination and 750 rebate): $28950, Invoice (including destination and 750 rebate): $25077.

Edited to add: also includes floor mats/door sill protector list at $196 on the window sticker.

I live near Houston, TX and I'm looking for a 2005 Toyota Sienna LE with package # 4 or 5. I'd like to be at or below $25,000 before TTL. I've been quoted $27,500 less $600 rebate, but that's the best I've found so far. Anyone have any suggestions?

FYI, for those of you looking at a Sienna, you do not have to buy a package to get the Daytime Running Lights, there is a way to activate them on all models. If you want to know how leave me a post and I'll email you with the instructions.
