Thanks - this was good info,
Do you know if adding such a thing without going thru the dealer affects the warranty? Ours is a 2007....

Do you know if adding such a thing without going thru the dealer affects the warranty?

The only way that you'll affect the warranty is if the dealer can prove the hitch caused the failure.

If your radio dies, the dealer really can't blame the installation of the hitch on it.

OTOH, if your tranny dies and you have a hitch but don't have the tranny cooler then Honda may have a case to deny warranty coverage.

Talk to the dealer. What my dealer told me on my 2000 was that if I had a hitch installed but didn't install a wiring harness, then they would go to bat for me with Honda if I had an issue. No harness would show that I either didn't hook up a trailer/lights or that I'm a complete idiot and would do such a thing. It also helps that I have had 100% of my service work done at the dealer and have a great relationship with them. They've taken care of many things for me under goodwill and they would help me out with Honda.

Remember - don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

Just purchased an 07 EXL. I know we can get the plus one console that attaches to the seat, but I would like to store the seat and put the full center row console that comes in the touring model. Good place for the kids DVD's. If you pulled out the plus one seat would the console fit? Is it the same set up as the touring model and it would snap right into place? That way if I need the plus one seat, I can pop out the console and put the seat back in. I'm not wild about the attachment for the plus one seat as it seems very shallow and I would like the storage for the kids stuff.

Any thoughts on this? Any one add this item aftermarket and if so, where did you find it?

    Thanks!

    Good news.

According to THIS, the 2nd row center console (which they sell) will fit the EX models (but not the LX model).

FWIW, i noted that pepboys in our area is running a special on these backup color camera systems for 99.00USD, with a $20 mail in rebate (eff $79.00).

recently, i had to replace the camera which was collecting condensation for a replacement. i hope a one-off problem.

Is there any concerns/issues with Warranty or extended Warranty if this camera is installed.

Also, any ideas who could/would possibly do the installation(Pepboys , Midas, etc...) for ignoramus like me...

    Thanks!
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
pepboys has a 90day money back policy i think, so there was no issue.

however, i purchased with AMEX so that got me an additional year warranty anyway. ;)

depending on the vehicle you drive, it is not so difficult to install the camera. your biggest hurdle, can you route the camera power wires over to a rear-light assembly?

for our odyssey (your vehicle may be different):

i needed to drill a tiny hole in the hatch behind the license plate (never seen by anyone, won't see water). you end up putting a rubber grommet in the hole anyway which the power wire (2 conductor snakes through).

this requires a drill and proper size drill-bit... if you don't have that, you may be sunk.

then, you need to mount the camera on the license plate screws. only a screwdriver required there. no big deal.

ok, you need to snake the power wire for the camera over to a rear / reverse lightbulb socket, because the camera is powered when you put the car in reverse.

to snake it over to the bulb area from where i made the hole... in my wife's Odyssey, i found this fairly easy to do:
1). remove hatch handle screw covers with putty knife
2). remove hatch handle with screwdriver
3). remove plastic snap rivets (down near lock assembly on hatch) with screwdriver (back plastic screws out) and remove with fingers.
4). gently pull the interior hatch covering (plastic) at 2 locations on both sides of the hatch (down near the lowest part of the hatch at the corners), and about 1/2 way up from the corners and the square access panels for the lightbulb. as you pull, plastic snaps or rivets will let-go from the metal hatch. this detaches the plastic hatch covering from the metal hatch just enough for using your hands.
5). now with the plastic hatch covering loose enough you can move it away from the hatch body, you can snake the wire over to the bulb area. route the wire so it doesn't interfere with the mechanicals for the hatch handle.
6). remove the plastic access panel in the hatch covering behind the light assembly you'll be making the connection for power.
7). snake the power wire through the hatch. reseat the hatch platic pop rivets by pushing the hatch covering back against the metal hatch till they pop back in and hold.
8). re-install the plastic rivets near the lock assembly. re-install the hatch handle.
9). using a very sharp knife or wire strippers, back the insulation off the black (12V ground) and green (12V power) wires going to the backup bulb so the conductor is exposed. no need to cut the wires. remove insulation from the black (12V ground) power wire of the camera, and red (12V power) wire of the camera.
10). black to black. red to green. make a good physical connection. finish with black electrical tape (home depot, lowes, radioshack).
11). re-install bulb and access panel.

now, the rest is easy: decide where to mount the display. on the ODY, i found it works well mounted on the dash using velcro on the back of the display right above the mirror controls to the left of the steering wheel.

i purchased a 12volt power Y-Adapter from BELL(also pepboys, about $5) so that we could power the backup camera and my wife's cell phone charger cord at the same time, and physical swapping of plugs wouldn't be necessary. backup display plugs into the Y-adapter. so does wife's cell phone cord. Y-adapter plugs into the convenience outlet. easy.

i snaked the power cable for the camera up alongside but tucked behind the center dash material, up over the wires behind the stearing wheel, over to the fuse area at the driver's door, and up the dash to the display. installation looks pretty good. you cannot see the power cord when the door is closed. no problems there.

one thing i noted, in the south it gets very hot. the velcro material they provide in the box has a very poor adhesive, and the display would slip off the dash after a few days as my wife parked the car in the sun.

i went to home depot and for $3-$4 or so, i purchased some "Automobile Velcro" which has a much better adhesive and sticks well. one piece on the dash, mating piece on the back of the display.

so, who could help you if you're not comfortable doing it yourself? a mechanically inclined neighbor with some readily available tools. it's pretty easy once you get over the mini-trama of drilling a hole, snaking the wire, and making the electrical connection for camera power.

a reasonable exchange of gratitude or help in some current or future project he/she may have, a 6-pack of beer, bottle of wine, gift certificate to a bookstore... a simple thank you... neighbors like helping neighbors.

I bought, but haven't installed yet, a Supra Permanent Mount Auto Lockbox hide-a-key so I'll never accidentally lock my keys in the car (and can still drive even if I lose my keys). It's made to be screwed (using self-taping screws) to any metal surface. I'd planned to have someone weld a 3" x 2-1/2" steel plate to my Hidden-Hitch trailer hitch receiver (which is made of round tube steel). The welded plate would just be to give a flat place to screw the lockbox to. I don't believe that the metal that the lockbox itself is made of is suitable for welding, or I'd just have the box welded to the hitch tube. Furthermore, the rubber all-weather cover for the box is made such that it must be behind the lockbox anyway.

I mentioned my plans a buddy who said that he'd bet a decent sledge hammer could knock the lockbox off the Hidden-Hitch and a few more blows on the box could open it. I'm not sure he's right, but now I'm hesitant to install a lockbox where it can be easily seen by anyone with a view of my hitch (basically, anyone walking or driving behind me). On the other hand, I can't think of another place where I could mount a lockbox securely (and still be able to see the buttons to open it when needed).

The only other options which come to mind are:

    1. Use a velcro hide-a-key and put the key under the bumper where nobody can see it. This is ok, but I suppose any oil change jockey may see it and make note for future use.

    2. Have an auxiliary all-weather switch wired to the electric door locks. The switch would probably be installed under the front or back bumper. Hit the switch and the doors unlock. I'd hide my extra key inside the van where I wouldn't expect anyone to look (e.g. in a velcro hide-a-key under the driver seat, under the carpet in the under-floor well (lazy susan) or in the spare tire door). Again, someone at ultralube might see the switch, but would be less likely to pay attention to it.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?

Call me paranoid, but (1) my Ody was stolen (and recovered, damaged) earlier this year, (2) In 30 years of driving, I've locked my keys in the car a few times (3) I've lost my only keys in the river and been with others who have. I just don't want to be stuck again.

Get the Honda hitch online because it's the only one that doesn't hang low below your bumpper. It's an easy do-it-yourself job as long as you have a friend to help you because it is heavy.

BUMPER COVER NOTCH - TEMPLATE IS TOO BIG
Also, you have to cut a notch in the bottom of the bumpper cover. The installation instruction come with a template for cutting the notch. It's easy to cut. However, the template for cutting the notch is actually a little bigger than necessary. If I did it again, I would only cut the notch on the BOTTOM of the rear bumpper. The template extends the notch to part of the rear/back side of the bumpper so you can see it a little bit from behind. It's not a big deal - still looks okay.

Thanks a lot, the motivations and help is greatly appreciated. I finally got the time & the right deal for the camera to get this project done.

It was'nt that bad, once i got over the fact that I would need to drill a hole into my new minivan.
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
right, drilling the hole is the toughest part. ;)

interestingly, the other day i was driving down the road by a drug store and the display on the dash came to life (as if i were backing up the vehicle). for about 3 or 4 seconds i could see people shopping in the isles of the drug store. :surprise:

Have a 2007 EX. I know there is no MP3 plug in connection on the front, but I heard about some kind of attachment cable that connects behind the dash to the radio and plugs right into an iPod port that Honda was making.

Anyone heard of such a thing - or know another way for a direct connection (not one of those FM transmitters)?

    thanks.

here's an option for you to consider:
    http://www.handaaccessories.com/odyelec05.html

look at the owner's manual using the link.

there's probably something even cheaper that just provides AUX audio in to the radio. you might want to seek out an installer at say a BestBuy or even a high-end audio store, or do some work via Google to research it.
  • bdc2020bdc2020 Member Posts: 58
thanks for the link! Didn't know about that site as I'm new to Honda's. Looks like all the same genuine Honda accessories but at cheaper prices.
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
yeah, i think it's basically a honda dealership with a website for it's parts department. i purchased a CD player for my '03 because all i had was the cassette deck. good product, good instructions, good prices for someone capable of DIY.

and here's another site you should know about because of the nice exploded views of various sub-systems:
    http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/PartsSearch.jsp

    enjoy that honda.

I actually got to see the cargo tray in person - that has to be the most flimsey thing I have every seen. Felt like a tough paper. I thought it would be made out of a rubber material like the all season floor mats or something.

So I will not order the honda one - and hopefully be able to find a 3rd party item to put in there instead.

We go to the beach a lot and throw all of our sandy/salty/wet items in the trunk.
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
maybe they cheapened the tray considerably. i think the -'04s were made of plastic. hmmm.

there are companies that produce really serious WX mats. the names excape me but you can google for them.

We go to the beach a lot and throw all of our sandy/salty/wet items in the trunk.

can your whole family fit in there? :shades:

If you could think of the name of an aftermarket tray please let me know.

Meanwhile I'll try searching on them. I know I always used to see ads in the back of car mags for the SUV trays but don't recall a lot, if any, ads for minivans.

I have the Honda piece (came with the van) and it seems plenty sturdy to me. No idea what it sells for though, but at least it fits right, and says "Odyssey" right on it!

look for the ad for Macneil (SP?) that is in most of the car magazines. I think they have a web site at mats.com They probably have one.

Has anyone bought and installed a full towing package (hitch, harness, ATF, power steering cooler, deflector) by yourself? How much did you pay for the package? How easy/hard was it to install (I am not a mechanic)? Thanks for any tips.

what to buy for your new Honda, here is what I know

where you can find lots of Honda parts you might need.

i have the OEM aftermarket tray....it's black thick plastic, probably HDPE if i had to guess (the kind milk and detergent bottles are made from).

I can't imagine needing anything sturdier than this in the cargo well. Vaccuums out easily. I did look at a couple of different aftermarket liners but they were all shallower than the oem liner....that was my deciding factor.

Anyone considering the OEM iPod connection might want to read reviews first....they are universally *horrible*.

It's no longer on my list of options. Supposedly, it's being redesigned..... I'll have another look when it's re released.

Autoanything.com should have one to suit you. They have custom WeatherTech, Huskies, etc. with low to high price. These are trays with lips up 4 sides to avoid liquid spills to the carpet area.
  • sreisssreiss Member Posts: 65
I had the cargo tray in our 2001 Ody and wanted to use it in the 2007 Ody we just bought, but it is too small for the cargo area. So, I got a new one (OEM) and it is noticeably less sturdy than the one I got in 2001. They have made the plastic much less thick and sturdy. It will still do the job, but it is not as rugged as the earlier one.

Does anyone know how I can get the all weather mats cheaper than buying them at the dealer? I just think it's crazy to spend over $200 for car mats.

    BTW: I have a 07'Touring
  • sebring95sebring95 Member Posts: 3,241
Should be able to find them on Ebay for around $160 or so delivered. Also a good place for lower priced accessories is http://www.handa-accessories.com/odyssey05.html

Good mats are expensive, period. The Honda OEM mats are a very good quality and worth the money IMHO, although it always pays to shop around. Good aftermarkets are in the $150 range and I'm not sure I've seen any that offer the access to the 2nd row floor storage like the OEM's do.
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
I don't know whether this is OEM's or not ....

This All season mat trim (with Odyssey logo) has exactly OEM carpet access to 2nd row floor storage. One thing to be aware of is they don't have lips on side like the weathertech or huskies.

Keep carpet free from wet, messy tracks
Functional design ridges trap dirt, sand, mud and water
Tough rubber material has a long lifespan
Easily cleaned with mild soap and water
Floor-mat pattern matches the trunk tray for a coordinated look
Not intended for use with standard carpet floor mats
    color : black, saddle
    All 3 rows are included.

    $153

Based on the pic, those look like the OEM's we have. I don't think they have the right MSRP though. Price seems about right though.

:) Non-Slip Neoprene pads – Great Accessory! Found the ebay PadsPlus store referenced on the OdyClub site. Reviews were great, so I contacted Wilson for a set. We just finished installing all the Deluxe Pad set in my 07 Ody w/ R&N. There are so many nooks and crannies in this vehicle that I discovered new spaces when installing the pads. The pads were clearly labeled, and easy to install. Peeling the backing off the pads with the adhesive backing was a little tricky – be sure you don’t peel off the adhesive by accident – just keep working and you will get under the paper peel-away. We purchased the full "deluxe" kit, and got the front row storage drawer pad as an extra. Wilson’s workmanship was really impressive and his responsive customer service was a real pleasure to deal with. The pads shipped via USPS out on Friday, arrived from West Coast to our East Coast address on Tuesday. These really look like a factory-installed accessory. The CDs I had rattling around in my Driver’s side compartment before are now a quiet accompaniment to my daily drive. Thanks Wilson – highly recommend! :shades:

Has anyone installed the optional/OEM 3rd row sunshades? If so, how easy or difficult were they to install? Also, how is the fit and damage to the interior? We really like the 2nd row, so thinking about putting the 3rd in our 07 Touring.

Also, I was very concerned about the potential damage to the A/C condenser from road debris. So, I installed a set of custom stainless steel grill guards. I have included pictures, if anyone is interested:

    link title

These are the Stainless Steel Grill Inserts, Combo Package, All Season-Round, Mirror Stainless (28-991); $209+35S&H=$244. A little expensive, but cheaper than a $600 A/C condenser replacement. Plus it gives the Ody an individualized, sporty look. They took about 3 weeks from order to arrival. Supposedly, each order is made individually.

    Also, the company is www.cloud-rider.com.

I am very pleased with the product!

Just bought via internet the Honda All Season Mats. When I got them I was a bit disappointed as they "look" like they will not hold much water from melting snow. Can anyone share real world experience. I am use to the walmart mats where you can dump like a gallon or two or water and it all stays collected as the mats have a high wall that holds liquids. I do not want to throw in the towel just yet on the Honda mats just need some feedback from real world users. Also do you pull out the honda carpet mats or do you put the rubber mats on top. Thanks
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
If you didn't use it, return it, then order the weathertech or huskies at autoanything.com they have walls or lips to hold extra water and complete customs fit your ody. It is just a little higher. I ordered a set for my wife's 07 RAV4 and I like it.

As my all season honda mat does not have lips/walls I will make sure I brush off as much snow as possible to not spill the water over the edge to the carpet. You have to pull away the honda floor mats.

I bought fog lights as a stand-alone option in my 2007 EX-L, and the dealer installed them. However, I think there may be a problem with their alignment: there is a horizontal black line between where the light from the fog lights end and the light from the regular front lamps begin. In my other car with fog lights, there is no such gap; i.e., the light from the fog lights meets or perhaps overlaps a bit the light from the regular front lamps.

Should there be this gap? Perhaps someone who has fog lights could let me know? :confuse:

    Thanks greatly for the advice.

I bought the Honda All Season Mats for our 06'. They are useless for winter use. Water from melting snow runs everywhere. For some reason the passenger side floor on our car seems to be sloped towards the door. Water runs under the plastic piece on the door sill. I had to buy a set of large Pants Saver floor mats from Walmart to put in the front to catch all the water. Also the middle row is useless for winter use also. It comes in 3 pieces and has the cutouts for the in-floor storage bin. With so many cutouts in the middle row you might as well not having them there at all. What I did was buy another set of the large Pants Savers and put them on top of the Honda ones sideways, 2 of them fit just perfectly across and does a great job catching all the water. I take the Pants Saver ones out after winter. As far as the carpet ones, you do have to remove them.

The 07' models came with the coin holder in the center cupholder in the dash. The 05' and 06' didn't come with this. I was going to buy the cup holder from a 07' and install it into my 06'. Has anybody done this before or does anybody know how to remove the center pull out cuphholder? Both types are basically the same thing except the 07 has the integrated coin holder inside.
  • poocatpoocat Member Posts: 35
You can remove the Plus One seat. It's really easy to do and it folds up so you can store it in the floor compartment, or at home. On the 06' you have to remove the lazy susan first otherwise the seat won't fit inside. I store mine in the floor, comes in handy when you need it, actually used it about 3 times already.
  • poocatpoocat Member Posts: 35
I have a defect in the rubber seal on our 06' in the rear drivers side quarter glass. The seal was not installed properly and it looks like it's pushed in about 3 inches long. It really bothers me and still does after a year and a half. The dealer said that it only cosmetic, sure it is but I don't like it. I checked with the parts department and they said that the seal is part of the glass assembly. The service dept. agreed to change the glass panel/seal and said that I still have 1 1/2 years warranty and he said that if it was his he would leave it for now. I'm still thinking about whether to get it done or not. Main reason is that they have to take the spare tire out and 1/2 of the inside of the car apart to remove the glass. Then you wonder if they will put it all back together again correctly. My Honda dealer tells me that they have to send it to a local glass shop to get it done. Those guys have probably never even taken one of these cars apart before and is the seal on the glass going to be as good a a factory seal. I'm kind of leaning towards not getting it done for these reasons, it might cause me more grief later.

I bought the tray for our 06'. It's made that way for a reason, so you can drop the 3rd row seat down without having to remove the tray first.

When we bought our 06' EXL-RES it came with a small piece of carpet that is about 14" long and 9" wide. I think it had a couple of plastic tabs and a couple of snaps. I could never figure out what this thing is for , does anyone know where it goes? Thanks.

Took forums advice and I returned all the OEM Honda "Not" So All Season Floor mats and trunk tray. I was a bit reluctant to make the purchase of the WeatherTech Hvy Duty Floor liners because I already got burned once make decision based on photos and I read some mixed reviews on the internet about the true fit of the WeatherTech mats. I found out WeatherTech has a showroom in my backyard, Downers Grove IL 10 miles away so I rode their and asked if I can try all their floor liners and trunk liner in the parking lot which they did support. The WeatherTech product fit as described in my 07 Ody. They were the best fit I can find out there so I made the purchase. Now I just need to wait for it to snow to update on real world test. Thanks for forum advise once again.

    I had a 2005 and traded in for a 2007.

The small piece of carpet cover I believe is for the middle seat (Honda calls it Plus-1 seat) in the second row. If you decide to store the this seat in the foor storage, this piece of carpet is to cover where the plus-1 seat is located. I hope I have explained it well.

The running boards on the 08 model don't retrofit the 05-07 models. They didn't add the hardware to mount it on the 05-07. like the mounting holes. Unless somebody wants to try retrofitting it. The bluetooth accessory will retrofit on the older ones but may not match the interior even if it's the same color. Hope this helps.

    Hi there,
I am about to close on a 2007 EX. I don't think it comes with the roofrack crossbars. Does anyone have any suggestions for purchasing. Do I have to buy from Honda? Also is there an alternative maker for the cargo area liner? I am guessing it is best to get them from Honda, I may try to get a discount on them when I close.
Also does anyone have any issues with the EX cloth seats? should I spray them with Scotch guard or other treatment or leave them alone :confuse:
  • angelchicagoangelchicago Member Posts: 38
I would recommend NOT buying any accessories during your negotiations as it can complicate the issue at hand which is getting a good deal on the 25K plus car. However it is helpful to know the best prices where you can get main accessories elsewhere via the internet. This way if the accessories "you" want come up during the van negotiations you know true street value of what they are trying to get you to buy. Below is a list of Honda OEM accessories I bought on internet from outfit called dealerfit.com.

I did end up returning the Honda OEM mats and tray as they were very disappointing, see post 813. I instead went with company called weathertech, search them online. They have the floor liners you truly want for long term for about the same price.

    Cross Bars $153.26US
Cargo Tray $89.10US (not good product)
Floor Mats, All-Season $154.33US (not good product)
    RES Headphones $62.64US

If you know you are going to end up with the van you may want to buy your floor liners online now as it will take a week for them to arrive... so you kindof want to avoid having new car w/o mats.

Cannot comment on your cloth seats. I however purchase 7 cans of scotch guard at Walmart to spray all my floor carpetting while still new. I put my roof cross bars on last weekend and it was well worth the cost savings.

I am considering buying all weHater floormats for my 2007 Odyssey. The interior is olive leather. Wondering if those w/ olive have bought the tan or the black mats? Are you happy w/ the mats in general?

google honda accessories. i found a site called handa-accessories.com. They are a dealer, but sell accessories at a much cheaper price (seems to be about 60% of retail). Do this for any accessories you are interested in.

The load bars are about 160 - the cargo tray is 90.

They are a dealer - so maybe you can get your local dealer to match the price.
