we broke down and got a mini when the 2nd child was born. That's what put us over the top, junk wise.

At least we got a short wheel base model (Plymouth) at that time, so it was still kinda "mini"!

I am shopping for a 2006 EX-L in the Atlanta area. I thought I was doing pretty good until I saw your numbers. I'm hoping the numbers you are quoting are not "out the door" numbers. Can you tell me what is the drive away price you are paying. I'm getting quotes between $28,900 - $29,400 but once you add the tax tag and title the out the door price is between $31,300 - $31,900.

I would try to see if he can do better. I got a 2006 Slate Green Touring R&N for $35600 here is WA
  • davantdavant Member Posts: 294
    Ody'06,

$35,173 is the dealer invoice price (including $550) destination according to Consumer Reports for a 2005 Touring R&N. Since the MSRP only went up MSRP $300 for 2006 one can safely come up with a invoice price of $35,473 (this is actual dealer cost plus holdback). Edmunds has TMV at $37,657 in my FL zip. The MSRP is $39,345 and I got one for $37,500 cash (before T&T). You getting one for $35.6 is an incredible deal. My educated guess is there was a trade-in, was there and if so, what was it (mileage, year, model, trim, etc.)? Dealers tend to keep the price up on this premium trim level, possibly because it is the crown jewel of vandom, (sorry Sienna XLE Limited fans). What was your OTD price and... even though I got a good deal on the exact same vehicle from Hennessy Honda in Atlanta, can you fax or email me the invoice so I can cry on it?

"I soon will be a soccer daddy and lose my "bimmer drive" title. Sigh....... "

I am in the same boat. I have a Z4/525. The Z4 might go for the Ody. How long did you wait after your first child to get the minivan?

God, I know the feeling.....Bought my Minivan last Dec, thought I'd sell me 325ci but I couldn't. I've never loved a car like I do my BMW
  • dmaxwellhdmaxwellh Member Posts: 11
I just purchased my new van, an '06 EX with leather, DVD, and navigation. The MSRP was 35,145. I paid 32,173 for the vehicle. My local dealer would only discount the same van $650 dollars, so I drove 30 miles to the next town and bought one. I believe this is $500 over invoice. I am quite happy with this price.

what site did you use to request the quotes? there are so many out there and I'd really like to figure this out by the end of the month!
  • coolguy3coolguy3 Member Posts: 6
Just got the van!! Absolutely great experience....3 miles on odometer...took 1 hr at the dealership to finish paperwork, get a quick overview of features and to drive away...

I used the Honda website...go to odyssey page and then go to locate dealers given a zip code - this will show all dealers in 100 mile radius - i sent about 30 quote requests and got this one from Valley Honda - no haggling whatsoever..am really happy with my new 2006 Odyssey!
  • odyssey06odyssey06 Member Posts: 5
Actually here are the accurate numbers:

2006 Odyssey Touring w/ NAV & DVD Dealer Invoice Price: $34897
    Destination & Handling: $550
    Total (incld. destination): $35347

No. I did not have any trade in

My total OTD price is $39750 (including all taxes & fees)
  • odyssey06odyssey06 Member Posts: 5
You need to find a good offer and make them an offer & see if they are interested in beating it. Try the following dealers - they are all willing to accept a good offer

    Apple Valley Honda
    Burien Honda
    Northwest Honda
    Discovery Honda
    Griffith Honda

They did nothing but waste our time after purportedly "agreeing" to terms by phone and fax. Find another dealership which is on the level!
  • minivanguyminivanguy Member Posts: 85
If your in the Georgia area, check out Grainger Honda in Garden City. These guys are a WONDER to work with. My OTD price was $34,782 for a Touring without R/N. That was with $3000 down of coarse. ;)
  • tunractunrac Member Posts: 19
Question on this deal, what are taxes and fees in WA. I ask because either taxes and registration in WA is much higher than CA or you must have added stuff?

Your OTD price is similar to what I got in CA, but my sale price was much higher than $35,600... unless this does not include destination.
  • krs1krs1 Member Posts: 36
    Hi swmobley...

What dealership did you buy from?

    BTW; Congrats on your purchase...
  • odyssey06odyssey06 Member Posts: 5
Did I say $35600? Sorry that was a typo. My deal was $36500 (including destination) for 2006 Touring with RES & NAV in Slate Green color.
  • sanjaybsanjayb Member Posts: 2
I travelled to Lancaster, PA and saved $2000.00 off the sticker for ex-l with res and nav. $34,000 otd in the northern va area. took a one way car rental and drove back in my new van.

I live in Hudson valley area and the best quote I got so far is 33750 incl dest. I think I can do better and I am willing to travel. Can any one suggest good dealers around this area.
  • jvalhajvalha Member Posts: 18
Best I could do (with minimal negotiation via email) in the Chicago western suburbs for a 2006 Touring w/DVD and Navi was $37,300 inc. destination. I'm pretty happy with the price and very happy with the car.
  • srikanth2305srikanth2305 Member Posts: 22
The best I got so far is 33167 which is exactly 1500 over invoice for 2006 EXL R & N. I think I have seen people mentioning 500 above invoice. Please shed some light about those dealers who will do about that price in NY/NJ/CT area. Thanks.
  • tunractunrac Member Posts: 19
$36,500 is still a good price on a fully loaded Touring with R+N and then the numbers add up very nicely. I received a similar price last month on an '06 Touring R+N.

I think some have been successful geting a few hundred less than this on this model in some areas (and one place offered a enthusiast club $99 over invoice on orders last month, with delivery in Oct/Nov), but it sounds like you got a nice deal.

    Enjoy your new van!
  • allygallyg Member Posts: 18
We are in the market for an Odyssey EXL RES and NAV. Sent email to 7 local dealers, and the price we got back form 3 dealers so far is over $35500 which is about MSRP. Anyone here had better luck?

    Thanks.
  • haskell1haskell1 Member Posts: 2
best quote I got in my area for '06 ex-l with dvd was $495, this was for 48 mo and 12,000 miles per year. does this seem reasonable?
  • hound97hound97 Member Posts: 22
Picked up my 2006 EX-L (Silver Pear with Gray interior) on Thursday. Traded in my 01 Maxima SE since the family is growing and I was really disappointed in the quality of the Maxima.

My buying experience wasn't spectacular. I was in the dealership over two hours with my wife and two-year-old daughter. The car had the dealer emblem on it, which I didn't want (they took it off for me) and also had 17 miles on it (I was only expecting 3 since it was just delivered, I didn't ask why, but I'd guess either they used it for a test drive or the service department took it for a test drive).

I have to say, despite many of the negative comments I've heard in these forums, so far I've been really impressed by the Odyssey. It's even better than I expected.

Very pleased that Honda went to 60k miles with their powertrain warranty for 2006, especially with the VCM, which I expect will be the most likely source of any trouble with the car.

Buying a car stinks no matter where you buy it. The process is terrible. However, I have to say that I'm thrilled with the results since I do love this vehicle, even if it is a minivan!

Hard to say what my final number was. The dealer wrote up the deal as sticker including destination =$31,410 minus $14,060 for my trade. I'd prefer to look at it as $2,000 off sticker and $12,060 for my trade, which is not a great deal, but certainly a fair one.

Where is the Hennessy dealership? Can you elaborate on the FWB and P'cola locations in your email, i.e. 'don't play nice.'

    Thanks.
  • davantdavant Member Posts: 294
Hennessy Honda gave me a fair & honest deal. They had the exact exterior/interior color combo, Slate Green/Olive (putty), '06 Touring R&N that I wanted allocated to align with time critical availability because we were selling our Expedition to family (bad idea). They are located in Woodstock, GA, just North of Atlanta proper. Gwinnett is their only competition so they say but I found them to be to large for their britches, (cold, slow, generic, indifferent). I can't mention names of Hennessy contacts here but try e-mailing them a request for quote with your druthers. I don't recommend calling and asking for a new care salesman, if you like phones, try the ISM's. Give them a chance to beat your best deal, no perks for me (in FL) if you buy other than personal satisfaction of knowing there'll be one more happy Ody owner out there. I shared the Consumer Reports data with them so no secrets on what they made. I've purchased over 20 vehicles and this was the most pleasant experience to date hands down, mostly because we haggled by e-mail with some phone stuff at the end. Ours was a cash deal and you probably want to avoid an internet transaction if you have a trade, too risky.

To elaborate on my FWB and P'cola, "don't play nice" statement, they don't swap vehicles, and won't speak to each other. Competitors may be the wrong word, perhaps rivals or adversaries? Matters none to me, both have decent service departments. Neither could compete with ATL dealers by their own admission and recent posts here have my deal beat by a substantial amount.

Not that you asked for advice but... if a dealer has what you want coming in, don't be afraid to commit and drive a few hundred miles or do what I did, fly there for 50 bucks. Fed-Ex'd signed docs (preceded by fax) purchase orders eliminate surprises, especially if you have your own financing ahead of time.

I was able to purchase my van for 500 over invoice at Friendly Honda in Poughkeepsie (32,174 + tax and motor vehicle). Nice people, simple transaction. . .
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
It takes time to buy a car. The paperwork just continues to increase every year it seems. Getting a babysitter is a great idea. I get people "in a hurry" all of the time and this only makes the process miserable for both of us.

17 miles is nothing. The cars arrive from the factory with 4-10 miles on them. They drive them on a test track. When the Pre Delivery Inspection is done, the techs drive them to insure everything is in good shape.

I just hope my customers don't feel "the process is terrible". I try to make it easy and fun.
  • srikanth2305srikanth2305 Member Posts: 22
Thanks will try them. I have got a better quote on 2006 EXL RES&NAV for 32600 incl dest. Can any one comment whether it is a fair price in NY NJ area?

I didn't do my homework on the extended warranty. I got hosed. My fault. $1,800. Ouch.

    Hey swmobley...

I think we broke the law within the edmunds post. Because I posted a reply that contained my email address, and I dont see it on here any more, nor do I see your initial reply saying you got the Ody at Williams Honda in Hampton, think that got pulled off the posts too because a reference was made in which you offered to give me details of your Williams experience off-line via email.(non edmunds...)

in any event I will try to remember what my reply was and do it again, this time without the Referee throwing RED Flags.

    Question
Did you get the DVD or Navi?
What color did you end up getting?

9/25/05 I went to Checkered Flag Honda in Norfolk VA, did test drive (no intention to buy then and didn't) ... Salesman was not that good, it seemed like I knew more about the Ody then he did, asked him a lot of questions about the car & features and he seemed to fumble. As a salesman he did not give me the Warm & Fuzzy about the vehicle but he seemed like a nice guy...

Was originally going for the 06 ODY EX-L + DVD, after test drive, I want a 06 ODY EX-L DVD + NAV.
When I am ready to buy, I plan on going to Williams Honda first since they are part of the Costco Auto Buying Program here in Hapmton Roads. Curios to see what the "Negotiated" ;) Member price is... But if it is not close to my OTD, then I will go forward with Williams Honda & the other dealers via eMail and ask for a quote on the 06 Ody EX-L DVD + NAV.

I am still a little nervous about the OTD I came up with. Your post helped me get a good idea of the Fees Taxes & Such.. Here is what I came up with.

As Reference points: 06 ODY EX-L DVD & Nav
    Edmunds TMV= $33,848
    MSRP/Destination (Edmunds) : $35,145

OTD = Invoice & Destination (per Costco Auto Program) $31,673 + $1,270 (Fees Taxes & Such... per your post) = $32,942

Last Question to All is ....

OTD $32,942 an Unrealistic Price to be Paid???
I want to be viewed as a serious buyer & not viewed as ridicuous, brushed off by the dealerships I email.

Help me out here Ya'll... All comments welcome.

bobst got a opinion?? You taught me a lot via these posts.... :)
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
No, that lease quote seems high, even assuming this is with zero out of pocket at signing. You'll be paying $24,760 to use the vehicle for just 4 years. For not much more per month you should be able to buy it.

I got a deal in Ohio from Apostolakis Honda: $32100(OTD), and O'Neill honda in Arizona is willing to match $32100 but I don't know their processing fees. Ciocca honda quoted me for $32174 in PA. I hope this helps.
  • swmobleyswmobley Member Posts: 6
My Advice to you is 1000 over invoice is a fair deal for you and the dealer. I see some people on here getting lower but I'm not sure about the market in there area. I gave you the fees and tax is 3% in Virginia on new cars add it all up and come up with a out the door price and stick to your guns. The dealers will give it to you for that price after they realize you are not going any higher. I told them my price was set in CONCRETE.

    Hi swmobley

    To clarify, do you mean

    $1,000 + invoice + tax & Fees = OTD
    Or... Invoice + $1,000 = OTD

Need to find out about Williams Honda "specifics" ;) any idea how to do this without getting slammed by edmunds & deleted?
  • sj2000sj2000 Member Posts: 9
    Yes, but that's before tax.
  • vsaxenavsaxena Member Posts: 211
When you have one Bimmer it is fine. But what to do when you have 2?
I tried to convince my wife to swap the 525 for a 2001 740iL. But some how she did not feel comfortable in owning a car which stickered at $70K since most people do not know that I picked it up for $26K :confuse:

I have a person interested in taking over my Z4 lease. I am torn since that is my daily driver, my shark, my baby...

Picking up 06 ODY EXL with DVD in two days
    OTD 31679
    No trade in.
Really straight forward transaction. I email several dealers, specifically stating the OTD price I was willing to pay, and all 3 three dealers contacted me with quotes ( 2 accepted offer). I then request confirmation of quote via email with vin of vehicle, this was promptly done after vehicle was located, + made a $500 deposit over phone and that was it .
I arrive at OTD figure by figuring 3 % tax for VA ( on invoice+ destination + approx 500), + disregard processing fee and other 100% markup fees (other than license/tag) .
I find that determining your OTD price and stating it up front simply the transaction tremendously.
Another point , complete transaction by email exclusively until you literally pick up vehicle. This serve several purpose . It give you a paper trail /verification of quotes, + eliminate's a big dealer negotiating advantage - knowing the adversary.
hagerstown honda and Odonell honda's internet dept were the most receptive.

If you are looking for some way to find the salesperson's name, then this isn't the place to do it....

And, in my experience.... a referral to a good salesperson is nice to have... But, it sure won't guarantee the same kind of deal that the last person received..

Dealers that make good deals will make them for just about anyone, assuming all variables are the same (which they rarely are)... Going in and saying, "I want to talk to Joe Schmo... JQ Public told me you gave him the EX for exactly $XXX, and I want the same thing!!", is not what will make the difference...

    Okay okay...... :D
I gotcha on the part , that this is not the place to get the sale persons name... slap on the wrist was felt...

However, I would never go into a dealership and say... "So and So got this deal give it to me too!" I may be new to the car buying business, but I did not just fall off the pumpkin truck yesterday :P :surprise:

I do strongly believe referral to a "good salesman" in a "good dealership" is helpful not to mention useful. It rewards the consumer, it rewards the salesperson (another possible sale for him doing a good job as a salesperson), and the dealership makes money buy selling more cars.

It this world it is no longer "what you know " its more like... "who you know..." that gets you over the hump these days specially in business..

    All,

So if we plan to keep our car for a long time, should we purchase an extended warranty? If so, at what point? Any sense for pricing in California? Other comments?

    Thanks.
  • ruckterruckter Member Posts: 1
First, I want to thank all of the people who posted their stories on this message board. This information was critical for the purchase of my new 2006 Odyssey.

    Here is my story:

We took delivery of our black 2006 Odyssey EXL on Friday, about a week after sending out 25 on-line requests for quotes.

    Our final pricing was:

Van including destination- $28,358 (~$100 over invoice)
    NC HUT Tax (3%)- $850.74
    Tags- $56
    Doc Fee- $359

    Out the Door-$29,623.74

I did all of my negotiating based on the out the door price so I let the dealer have his unrealistic doc fee. (although is was in line with most other dealers) This was an in stock unit and there were a few dealer accessories already installed that we were not charged for. (wheel locks, mud flaps, a pin stripe that we had them remove)

We had additional offers from other dealers that were $200 below this price but we went with our local dealer since he had the color/trim in stock and we liked the idea of servicing the van where we bought it.

Overall, we are satisfied with this deal. I had worked up a target price before contacting dealers up from invoice taking into account a 3% holdback and a 5% dealer profit, $100 doc fee and we ended up $50 below that number.

Now we are debating if we should add a Honda Care Warranty...
  • swmobleyswmobley Member Posts: 6
    KRS1

    Wiliiams Honda Fees for me
Tax is 3% of sales price (870.00 for 29,000)
    Tags and Title 100.00
Processing Fee 349.00 (I think this is bogus charge but it is on the invoice)
all this equals a little over a 1000 dollars

So You can add 2000 Dollars to the invoice price and that is how you get the OTD Price. Most Dealers will take this price but it may take a week or so for them to realize you won't budge. This is a fair deal for both parties in my opinion.
