You might now try to get your favored dealer(s) to sweeten the pot by throwing in mats (and any other accessories you'd like to have) at no cost to close your deal.
The point is that price competition is stiff at present in various locations, making now a great time to buy.
Which dealership quoted you $1000 below invoice?
thanks
I paid:
Vehicle: $35,000
destination: $550
dealer processing: $99.00
tire recycling fee: $4.00
Honda Care 6yr/120K with 0 Ded.: $1080
plus taxes and tags for OTD: $37,903.
I started on Saturday Dec. 24, by e mailing 15 dealers (all outside the DC beltway, as they do not seem to be interested in "dealing.") I located them on the Honda website. I said I was looking for offers at or below invoice and that i was going to buy on Monday. I listed colors and advised that i was looking for a warranty at the prices listed on www.collegehillshonda.com
As i went, I found it easier to e mail the dealers at their "contact us" addresses rather than go through all the annoying mandatory fields on their "request quote" features. I got fast responses via both methods.
I got three serious responses, offering the car i wanted at invoice from: Brown's Honda City of Baltimore, Pohanka of Marlow Heights MD and Ourisman of Laurel MD. I got a phone call from another MD dealer offering at invoice, but it was in the middle of my transaction and i cannot remember who it was.
The Ourisman salesman called me first, so i went there after getting an offer for my 98 Sienna from carmax. He would not meet my the carmax offer, so we closed the deal on the Odyssey and i went back to carmax. He had told me on the phone my Sienna had so many miles they would not be interested, so i cannot complain. He then drove my new van to carmax after they paid me for my Sienna.
The deal on the Odyssey went very smoothly and the salesman and Ourisman staff were very professional. I took advantage of Hondas 2.9 % financing. Only hitches were that they had sold the Silver one (my favorite color) that day, but they got one from another dealer in an hour. He wanted to charge me for the appearance package (wheel locks, pin stripes and mud flaps), saying that he would have to eat the cost as it came from another dealer, but I declined and we went forward after he threw this in.
I love the car. The NAV amazes me, though I do resent having to purchase it with the RES. I hope I never regret the PAX tires - I have some concern they will become the "Betamax" system of run flat tires, but liked the rest of the touring package. Even minivan haters have been impressed with this car.
I tried to find the buyers delivery checklist that was posted here a while back, but the link had expired. Perhaps someone can repost it for others?
The salespeople seemed motivated and the financing is great, so happy hunting!

My plan is similar to what many here have suggested... to cover many local dealers with e-mail requests for an Odyssey, wait for responses, and work the quotes down from there. After a couple of days here are the best responses: for a 2006 - $32,100; for a 2005 - $29,779. These prices are "out the door", not including tax prices. The '06 we can get in one of our preferred colors (red or ocean mist), but the '05 is in one of our middle choice colors (gold).
What do you think of the prices? Do you think the '06 is that much better to warrant the $2,300 more than the '05. We haven't tried to get the prices knocked down yet, but I'm guessing the '05 is most likely to have more "wiggle room" during negotiations. Thank you for your thoughts. Have a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I bought an EX-L in Sarasota (Wilde Sun) on Dec. 17th. I used the information I learned here and e-mailed/called several interntet departments to see what they would come up with. It turns out that we had a contact at Wilde Sun and I called him and told him I wanted to pay $30K plus tax and tags for an '06 EX-L RES (no nav.) He we had to negotiate down to $30,100 but in the end they ended up giving me $500 more than Carmax would for my late model van.
When I was going to close the deal they tried to add in a $399 dealer fee and I had to threaten walking away from the deal. They ended up adding it onto my trade in but I was fine with that. I did all my homework, knew all the things they were going to try to add on to the price and was very happy with the outcome. Thanks to everyone on this sight!
So here's what I paid for an 06 EX-L w/ RES:
$30,100 - contract price
- $2,500 trade in (Carmax would give me $2k)
+ tax and $40 tag.
The dealer included all the little extras as well as one more wireless headphone for my third child.
I've had my van for two weeks and I have to say I love it. I wasn't very excited about buying another minivan but decided that I still needed one. Now I love it. The sound systme is amazing and the kids love the wireless.
I also did all the research on the Sienna Limited and really liked it but in the end there were a few things we liked better in the Honda:
- rear seats fold a little easier
- the second row buckets with the option of the little jump seat in between is great. We just took six kids and two adults to the zoo and everyone had plenty of room.
- the sound system was great in the odyssey
- the price was much better for the same options.
I hope this helps!
Also, got a decent trade-in amount for my 03 Accord. They didn't low ball it and offered slightly more than Blue Book.
Thanks for all the info.
My advice is drive for the best bargain you can on the 05...then add in the MSRP difference between MY 05 and 06, and make that your offer. You may have to wiggle a few hundred but you should have no troubles, if so then change dealers.
Good luck & HNY!
Does anybody have any recent buying experiences in Phoenix area? Any recommendations?
Can internet quoted prices be negotiated lower? Are internet buying experiences as simple as (almost) everyone makes it to be: get a quote and pick the vehicle?
Browsing through honda website for add-ons, the only useful stuff (my preference)was roof rack cross bars for bicycles. Are there any must haves at the time of purchase like door edge guards, splash guards, wheel locks, all season floor mats, ..? I came across the following website referred to in this forum for after the fact purchases http://www.collegehillshonda.com/odyssey/05_06_electronics.htm
I am trying to get a feel for a price that I can commit. One forum member mentioned to switch roles and sell it to self. I could if I knew what it cost me (true dealer cost, not factory invoice) and add 3-5% profit? Any numbers out there? The best sales price (not including TTL) I have seen on this forum recently is around $27,800.
Any help/tips/advice is deeply appreciated.
Happy New Year.
I have to drive 2 hours to pick it up. I live in the Atlanta area. This was the best deal I could find the rest were all in the $34-$35,000.00 range.
Is this a good deal?
Mentor, OH
$27,164 for EX-L
Bottom line - if you can buy the car tomorrow (or today, depending on whether you can find a dealer who is open), you should be able to get an EX for about $24,900.
1. Any other NC EX-L quotes?
2. How difficult is it to buy a minivan in one state when you are going to register it and pay taxes in another state. Do you end up paying taxes in both states? In NC we have to pay a 3% tax on cars.
Regarding EX-L (w/o RES & NAV) I think you should get it around 31K - 32K OTD.
Probably you can use this number for your benchmark & start negotiating.
Can you please post your final numbers
Unfortunately, they did not have my color/trim choice. Assuming this is a good price and with 2.9% financing, is it feasible to complete the transaction, but inform the dealer that I can wait for my color/trim to show up from factory assuming it arrives in 2-3 weeks?
I have been reading this forum for a few days now and am very impressed with the knowledge and info being shared. Thank you to everyone that has posted. I am convinced that the more dealers I contact, the better the chance I have of getting a great price. Can I get advice on how to word my email that will go to dealers? Is there a link to a FAQ or something?
Thanks in advance,
Neal
Salesman asked if they could get us into an EX-L would we buy? My wife said if the price was right, sure. Sale manager came back with a price that was 1300 less then anything we had been quoted for an EX-L.
$27,554.00 + TT + REG.
Got a great trade in price also. Best deal I've ever gotten on a new car.
Happy as a clam. Happy motoring.....
Happy New Year
Thanx everyone for posting their buying experiences. It sure helps to know how much other paid for the vehicle that you are looking for.
I paid 29,600+ tax and license for exl/res from hayward honda. San leandro honda and berkeley honda would have matched the same price.
This was by far the fastest and smoothest transaction among all 3 vehicles i have purchased. The hayward honda guys were really nice and did not try any pressure tactics.
They gave me a really good deal for my trade in too. Overall a very happy experience. I would recommend those
in-market for an Odssey to drive up to hayward.
IF you are in the market, i would suggest you to take a look at the consumer reports vehicle price service report which you can buy for $12 per make/model.
Based on your zipcode consumer reports will give your msrp,
invoice and lowest transaction price for Honda odyssey or any other vehicle. I highly recommend this guide.
Happy new year.
Just bought an Ody 2006 EX-L with Nav & Res for $30,765 including Destination ( that makes it appx 900 below Invoice ) on Friday.
Open Road Honda in Edison quoted 26,955 for EX-L ( without Nav & Res ).
In the end we decided to go for RES & NAV and the addl $3500 are worth it.
Honda has 2.9 APR for 36 months until Monday as well.
Good luck for your purchase

Be clear with them on whether Destination charge is included in the price or not and better to ask them to send it to you in fax nor email. They tried to play a fast one on me by creating this confusion in the end and get some extra $$.
I ended up purchasing an EX-L with muds/locks/RTA paid by the dealer. My offer was 29,850 including the accessories and I purchased it yesterday - NO games - no pressure. I highly recommend shooting an email to some of the remote locations and Aberdeen treated me great. It was a smooth transaction - they even trucked the car in from OR for me and it only had 30 miles on it!
Although I didnt get the deal many others are getting elsewhere, this was a great deal for WA state and we are happy! Good luck
Honest/straight-shooting dealership with zero extra fees or pressure to purchase add-ons/warranties.
Give highest recommendation--contact Internet Sales Mgr via their website or phone # on their website.

After reading lots of info on this forum, I purchased, and it all went pretty smoothly.
Saturday, Dec 31, I emailed 30 dealers in the area using Honda's 'request for quote' feature on their site. I stated I wanted to pay $28.5 incl destination ($29696 edmunds invoice) for a slate green metallic EX-L with RES. I stated that I would be a very quick sale if my price was matched and to call me on my cell if anyone had a serious offer. I got 3 calls back within 2 hours, ranging from $29,396 to $29896. The dealers that called were all a 45 minute drive. I called each one back to check on color. One had 2 of the color we wanted at $29500. I called our nearest dealer, Stephens Creek Honda in Cupertino (South Bay) who I knew had our color, and allowed them to match the price. The lowest they could go was 30,696, 1K over invoice. The salesmen said someone offered $500 over invoice earlier that day and his manager rejected it. He said that if I could really get my price of 29.5, I should take it. I had read here that all the South Bay dealers were selling over invoice, so I expected this. So I thanked him, and called the 28.5 dealer, checked the Out The Door price, and committed on the phone. I asked him to email me his quote, out the door price, just so I had something in writing before I drove 1 hr to get the car. We drove over on Sunday, and purchased it, and it went very smoothly. They did indeed have 2 of the color we wanted, and we just picked the interior. Also the one we liked had only 4 miles on it, whereas the other had 42. Made it an easy decision.
The dealer we bought from was Honda of El Cerrito. We received the lowest quote from Oakland Honda, and another decent quote from the dealer in Salinas (don't know the dealer name but you can probably look it up on Honda).
We paid
$29,500 incl destination
$32,274.21 out the door, incl tax, dmv, doc, tire fee.
Hope this helps someone. This forum was a great help for me. If I had not read that some East Bay dealers were selling at or below invoice, I probably would have lost about $1200-1500 by buying from a dealer close by. Thanks.

I got calls from Capitol Honda & Los Gatos, and emails from most of the others. Even though my quotes were for more, on the 31st I called my lowest 3, offered invoice $29,146 (not incl. $550 destination) for any of the 3 colors I wanted. This was $800 less than my offers, but Capitol Honda said yes, confirmed they had a few in the correct colors.
I've been saving for this one, got a cashier's check made out to Capitol, then stopped by Stevens Creek since it is close by. Showed them the check & said if they can beat invoice and throw in the Honda Music Link (for iPod), I'd buy it from them on the spot. They said they only had 2 in stock & were going to sell the silver one for $500 over invoice, so couldn't do the deal.
I went to Capitol & got an EX-L RES:
$29,146 vehicle
$550 Honda destination fee (standard for any Odyssey)
$45 Documentation fee
$265 License & tire fees
$2,475 Tax
$32,480 Out the door
The finance guy who goes over the add-ons (extended service, Lo-jack, finish protection, etc) was good-no pressure, just informative.
I recommend Capitol Honda- they have ample inventory and were willing to give a good price on the phone. Everyone else wanted me to come in, then haggle on the price.
Eric
The lowest price I have found so far is Oakland Honda. They just didn't have that much color selection.
