and make an offer...
I am looking at a LX Sedan manual..
What to offer? 16,800 OTD?
Who gets to decide what is reasonable? The dealer, of course. They may decide MSRP is the lowest reasonable price. I think I would ignore these clowns and find another dealership.
Seconds oldest come on: All credit applications accepted
Notes they say ACCEPTED, not APPROVED.
Dennis
KBB: Good 10,330 Fair $9,065
NADA: Trade in $10,450 Retail $12,475
My payoff amount is $9011.36 as of today.
My old car has a few scratches, little dings, scratched windshield... nothing really major. I guess all the little stuff added up. What do you think? Would it be fair to ask for $500 - $1000 off the price of the new car?
I am not sure what the tax rate is in your place. It is 7% in my place. And I just got a quote 18,000 OTD. Dennis told me it should be a good deal. One of my friends just got a 17,600 OTD, but the tax in his place is 5%. So, it should be the same. Not sure about you situation, friend.
Good luck
You COULD look at it as they are saving you that much off the new car and let it go - depending on the amount. If you have a good deal already, then you could take that approach. Just make SURE that they are BUYING your car as is and not just SAYING that they are and actually turning it in. I have heard stories where the dealer did this, then the lesee got a bill in the mail from the lease bank for the charges anyway. So get it in writing for sure - and even follow up with the lease bank that the dealers does the right thing.
You did not say who the lease bank is and how much, just curious.

I researched the car, trim line, and purchased the Honda Civic Sedan Packet from Fightingchance.com. Using Honda’s website, on 6/26/2007, I sent faxes to approximately 25 dealers located in San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino County. I immediately began receiving calls and emails. Most everybody was professional, a few tried waiting to see what others would be offering.
Here are the numbers broken down: Invoice $16,555.71; Doc Fee $55.00; Sales Tax $1287.33; DMV Electronic Filing Fee $28.00, License Fee $107.00; Registration Fee $60.00, CA Tire Fee $8.75 for a total of $18,101.79-- and my cashier’s check was for the same amount. I dealt with the internet manager and it is my understanding that they were very close to hitting a sales goal and my sale was just one more with 3 sales days left.
Yes, I did have to travel 2 hours away, and the whole process took a couple of days. However, it was a calm, stress free transaction. When you go to Costco, Macy’s, Nordstrom, etc, do you wait for the clerk to come back from the manager’s office with his/her best deal on that new polo shirt or color tv?
IMHO you are a fool to go into a dealer to negotiate the price of an automobile. A car is just an expensive commodity; let the dealers fight for your sale.
Timing is everything, increase your odds for price reductions by buying on the the slow days (Tues, Wed, Thurs) of the last week of the month. Think like a dealership. At the end of the month, everybody wants to know how many cars did we sell? Not, how much profit did we make on each car! The dealership will receive additional compensation through hold back and other manufacturer incentive plans.
Finally, if two people paid the same price for the same model and trim, somebody at the dealership made a mistake!

PS. The other post with the goal of an getting an OTD of $17500 is going to be a challenge. :shades:
What is your effect sales tax rate? From the numbers you gave I calculated 7.7%. Is this correct?
I have to say that I am surprised that you paid as much as you did for that car ... not that it is a bad price ... but you paid no "dealer fee" that usually jacks the price through the roof and you still paid over $18K.
Amazing ...
It should be 7.5%. This was the lowest price out of 15 internet/fax quotes. I was receiving OTD quotes up to $18,799.00, especially in San Diego.
I am satisfied, I am having a blast driving the car compared to my old SUV, and I am sure I will be reading "horror" prices that other people paid.
Like I said, it was just my experience. I will try again on my next car purchase!

Thanks Dud.
If your lease has that clause (you should check), then you shouldn't have to fix any of those items.

Sure, you can offer $16,800 for the LX Sedan manual but unless you have some sort of trade-in involved in the deal I would be totally amazed if the didn't laugh in your face. I was quoted almost $19,000 for the same car (7% sales tax and a whopping $600 dealer fee included).
If I could get that deal from a local dealer I would buy it ... whether I needed the car or not.
Let us know how it goes ...
Good price considering your tax rate. Those getting the car for less than $18K OTD either have a lower tax rate or no tax at all.
Some states have NO sales tax (they get taxed in other ways) so their OTD price could conceivably be less than $17K OTD!
You can get all the info you need on the LX auto sedan at EDMUNDS.COM. Your numbers may look different than these because I do not know where you live:
MSRP = $18,355
invoice = $16,944
True Market Price = $17,361 (what others are paying)
Based upon the above I would say that is a good price.
16,700 with dealer fee
179 doc fee
7.25% tax
$16,700 (with fee) X 1.0725 (tax) = $17,910 + 179 doc fee = $18,089.75
If you can get the car for this price then consider yourself successful. That is a good price for someone paying 7.25% tax.
Now, if you tell me that the $16,700 includes the doc fee AND tax, I'd have a really hard time believing it.
Let me know ...
I have a dealer worksheet in front of me that was just faxed over. This is for a 36 month lease for an EX AT. I'm in NJ with 7% sales tax.
MSRP $20,105
Base Invoice $18,549.57
Vehicle Price $18,220.57
Sales Tax $559.77
Acq fee $595 (Do you think this is a Dealer fee? And it coincidentally matches the destination fee which is already added into the MSRP and Base Invoice cost?)
Gross cap $19,375.34
Cash reduc $614.80 (I don't know where that came from)
Net cap cost $18,760.54
Residual is 63% at $12,666.15
Money factor .00155
Doc Fee 125
Title Fee 234
Tire Fee 7.50
Misc fee 7.70
No security deposit. Due at signing is $1207 which should be taxes, tags and first payment but my numbers aren't matching theirs. This is for 12K per year.
Does this seem right? Good deal or can I do better? My head is swimming! lol
Aren't I already paying the tax in the money due at signing? At least some of it with the $559.77?
My effective sales tax is 7%. At that rate I am targeting $17,900 to $18,100 as my OTD price. You are right on target with your quote.
Good luck ...
The sales tax and the acquisition fee were added to the selling price to get the Gross CAP..
The $614.80 is a CAP cost reduction... a down-payment.. which is probably part of the $1207 you are paying upfront..
I think your $1207 is 1st payment, fees, and $614.80 in downpayment....
Hope that helps,
kyfdx

You bought the same car I'm looking for. Seems like a good deal for Southern Calif. Did you buy it from Spreen Honda? Can you tell me the name of the internet manager you worked with?
Thanks for your help!
Got a decent deal on trade. Nissan Altima 2002 auto 110,000 miles poor condition 3,000
Check you carspace email. Santa came early this year

This price includes the destination charge, but not include TTL. This price is way below than the prices I have seen in this forum. Is this too good to be true? I am in Seattle area. Really need some suggestion. Thanks.
Sadly NJ dealers seem to want more than anyone else regardless of make, so I don't see it happening anytime soon.
The prices below are for an LX AT 4 door sedan in Seattle (from Edmunds website):
MSRP: $18,355
Invoice: $16,944
TMV price: $17,499 (what others are paying including dest. charge)
The price you were quoted is $1,300 BELOW invoice. Unless Honda is offering one hell of an incentive right now I have a hard time believing this is a valid quote. If it were then I should be able to go down to my local dealer and pick up the same car (only with MT) for about $14,800. Highly unlikely.
Let us know how it turns out ...
I am new to this great forum and have a few questions. Your quick response is greatly appreciated.
I was quoted the following;
No extra options
Price: $16995
Destanation: $595
Total: $17590
Tax: 8.375% (NY)
DMV: ` $220
Tire/s: $12.50
OTD: $19,295
1)Is this a good/fare price?
2)Also, this price was quoted to me today (6/30th end of the month), will the price change if buying at the begging of the month if yes by how much (~)?
3) Should I wait about 2 weeks? To try and get a better price? (Maybe they will try to get read of the 2007's to make room for 2008's)
Thank you
I am in the NY market for an ex coupe at and an ex 5 speed for my friend. Can you please tell me which dealership is giving you this offer? I am getting a price of 18799 for an ex sedan auto in Poughkeepsie.
Thanks
There are two dealership that made the same offer;
Bay Ridge and on Nostrand both in Brooklyn
Thanks
Which dealership you bought from?
Do you think/ know if the prices will be different in the upcoming week (begging of the month)?
Thanks
I live in california and I got $21,950 OTD. I believe the negotiated price was $20,000. The sales tax is 8.25 in california. I leased the car for 3 years and put no money down(I didn't pay anything at all) and paying $339 a month for 35 months($20 for alarm system). 15k a year.
I hope this information helps the next person looking for prices for civic si prices.

>>>> $22,700 OTD (Dallas 6.25% Sales Tax)
I thought this was a good deal (until I did some reading here :surprise: ) and put 2K down but have not yet taken possession. So if I hear quickly from you guys I guess I can still back out if needed :confuse:
Much appreciated!
You may have posted in the wrong forum. This forum is specifically for the Honda Civic. The Civic definitely does not come in an SE-V6 model ... they only produce it in 4-cylinder versions.
So what car are you trying to buy?

The DX has no radio at all, but the dealer can add one - and in addition can add a 6 disc in dash changer.
The EX with Nav you are interested in comes with a 6 speaker stereo with in-dash CD/MP3/WMA player, XM satellite radio (first 3 months free), and aux in jack to hook up an ipod or whatever, and the card reader. No need to a changer at all, just rip your CD collection and burn them onto blanks as MP3 or WMA files. Even with a very high bit rate you can get 6 or more CDs on ONE MP3/WMA disc. Then you could also dump them onto memory cards and play them that way, or onto a portable MP3 player (e.g. ipod) and play them that way - or just enjoy XM sat radio.
If all of that is not enough, you can get an accessory 6 disc trunk mounted changer - MSRP is $611 + install or get it online for $442 + shipping. Me, I sure would not spend the money on a changer when you have so many options in the EX w/Nav already.
