New Consumer Repts Oct. 2009 article "Road Map to a Great Deal" was good.p.44

There is a MotorTrend article Dec.4, 2006 which says the Oddy was redesigned for 2005 "with improved ride and handling, restyled interior and exterior and considerabel changes to the V6 - a redesign significant enough to qualify ...for our Car of the Year competition." My dealer had a glossy reprint of Car and Driver April 2008 (which I grabbed on my own while he went to his mgr.) Won their Best Van every year but 2004 since 2001 when they started these awards.

We are looking strongly at the 2010 odyssey ex,or maybe,exl/ touring, From what I have read inventory is low right now, Would like to know, what are some of the deals others have gotton lately we live in fla.
  • crimson_greencrimson_green Member Posts: 18
The best quote I have received for 2010 EX is $28,200 + tax, fees, etc. Since we don't really need one at the moment, we're going to wait until incentives are available.
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
At the $28,200 price for a 2010 EX, I think waiting is a very good idea.
  • madams1madams1 Member Posts: 101
Invoice, including destination is 27,808 for a 2010 EX. So the profit for the dealer would be 392.00 plus holdback. How much is holdback? Does it depend on the vehicle? So I guess depending on where you are located and inventory, etc. you can get below invoice plus cash back when available.

30,700 OTD? Can you tell me which dealer? I live in NY but could go to NJ for the right deal. The current offer I'm looking at for a 2010 EX-L is 31,370 which includes destination but not tax or DMV fees.
Also, if I buy in Jersey, do they use my city of residency to calculate the tax?
    Thanks.
  • laplaslaplas Member Posts: 10
$30700 OTD for 2010 EX-L would be a great price! However, I think the $30700 is only invoice+$400 profit alex mentioned in his post, which doesn't include destination and not mention other fees. So the OTD will be much higher than $30700...correct me if I am wrong.

I am getting quote for 2009 EX-L with RES (DVD) for $33400 out of door. But he mentioned this is in showroom.he has to pull when I am ready to look???

This is in south florida.Any inputs on the price?? Thanks

Just picked up the new Odyssey yesterday and paid 33,989 out the door in St. Louis, MO. I hope this helps!
  • joco123joco123 Member Posts: 4
I bought one in Venice, Fl...shipped over from a dealer in Daytona Beach...09 EX-L with RES for $30,400 (plus, tax, tag, dealer fee). So, if your tax/tag/dealer fee is about $3000 then that is about what we paid on 9/14/09.
  • jehstljehstl Member Posts: 2
    Ballas,
Can you tell me where you received this price? I'm in St. Louis too and was just about to pull the trigger on this same exact car but the price you received beats what I'm getting quoted.
    Thanks!

    Jeff,

I did all my negotiations by e-mail and a few phone calls. I dealt with all 4 major Honda dealerships in town and I bought our Odyssey at St. Louis Honda in South County. Stephen Vincel Honda was close in price but I recieved an e-mail from St. Louis Honda on Monday, 9-28-09, asking how close was his price to what I wanted and I told him I wanted to be under 34K. He needed to take an additional 800 off. He came back and took 815 off so I pulled the trigger quickly. He said he had 4 I could choose from on the lot at that price and by Monday night I believe three of them had sold. We got our preferred color and I am very satisfied with the price and ease of transaction. (By the way the C.D. changer is behind the Navigation screen which flips down when loading new C.D.s, the kids think it's cool.) Good luck!

Hi, I got a offer from a local dealer for 2009 Odyssey EX. The OTD price is $26,700. Is it a good deal? I am also considering Toyota Sienna. Do I need to wait for the new incentive for Toyota or just go for this Odyssey? Thanks a lot.
  • madams1madams1 Member Posts: 101
My response/comments were to a post by Crimson Green on 9-29-09. I was just commenting on the invoices price, etc. I belive that his was just standard EX with no leather or dvd.
  • madams1madams1 Member Posts: 101
Sounds like a fantastic deal to me especially if OTD price.
  • kprgroupkprgroup Member Posts: 9

i was comparing a 2010 toyota sienna le w/ #2 option - it seems to be item for item with the 2010 ody ex - it even has more overall room.

the best pricing i could get for the ex was over 28 k...the toyota was 25,700.

i have had and liked both toyota and honda but could not justify the extra cost for the ody.

did i miss something on the ody that is not on the sienna?
  • strawberry5921strawberry5921 Member Posts: 15
Totally understand about the $ end. Don't know what #2 is on Sienna, but will tell you from memory what I know. Big thing is 5 star rating on Ody for front and side impact - I like that! Sienna does not have. 4 star rating on rollover. Don't know for Sienna. Also better resale value on Ody. Standard options on Ody (I should say EXL not sure about others. I bought 2010 EXL) alloy wheels. By the way someone said on here earlier no curtain airbags for 3rd row on Ody. Not true, at least for the 2010 which I bought. The sales brochure from dealer covers all this. The Honda website you can click for a comparison with the Sienna or Town& Country, I just don't have it with me. So there are differences, but may be on #2 option on Sienna. Personally I like the feel of the Ody a little better. It is #1 in the category. One feature important to me is I liked the tray in the middle folding down. Small thing, but important to me. Love the sound proofing in the EXL (not on lower models), because you can talk on the phone great etc. I noticed the more space you mentioned on Sienna, too. I don't know where it is exactly. The Ody is wider than my Ford Windstar. I have room left over on the sides and in the very back. (I use car for business.) Another very small thing I happened to notice the other day. I parked right next to a Sienna, but I don't know the year. I was looking at the 2 cars. My car was lower to the ground as far as loading things into it, which I have to do. Not much, but it is good for me. The Sienna is beautiful, no question.
Someone said they liked the looks better. I see them all over and agree they look great. But I see more Ody's all over
  • islandvanislandvan Member Posts: 23
hi strawberry, what i was trying to say was a comparitively equipped sienna (#2 option package) to a odyssey ex was about 2500.00 less than the odyssey.

sienna has 5 star side and 4 star front impact ratings.

i also have the alloy wheels and a folding tray between the seats.

i liked the 8 passenger seating and all the middle row seats tumble and / or come out rather than the sideways slide which i did like.

in terms of size i was going by the cubic feet ratings overall and the "behind each row of seats" catagory. it is not a lot but toyota is a little bigger on each count.

either way i think they are both great vehicles w/ good resale value but do not love honda $2,000 more.

    continued success with your ody.
  • crimson_greencrimson_green Member Posts: 18
There are two #2 option package for the Sienna LE. I assume you looked at the one which includes alloy wheels. Here are the differences I can remember when I was comparing the Sienna LE with option #2 (with alloy wheels) and Odyssel EX.

    Sienna does not have:

    1. Floor Mats = $250 (dealer said this will be the cost if I want it)
    2. Security System = $500
    3. Three-zone automatic climate control
    4. 8-passenger
    5. In-floor storage and trunk tray
    6. 5-star front crash rating

At the end, I chose the Odyssey. I definitely value the front safety rating. I've read testimonies of owners walking away with just airbag burn after a head-on collission. I also like the in-floor storage and the trunk tray. The three-zone climate control is something I can probably live without.

I like how the Odyssey looks too. There is something about the Sienna I don't like. It feels old to me.

Of course, I like that the Odyssey ranks #1. I was disappointed that Sienna was not even on the recommended list at the consumer guide website.

Is the money factor so bad that no one is leasing Odysseys anymore? I would post to the "leasing forum" but there is zero activity. I have leased my last two, but last time i checked (July 2009) the money factor caused my current lease rate on an EX-L RES to go from $409 to $540 per month if I were to lease again.

We just picked up our 2010 Odyssey Touring at Peters Honda in Nashua, NH on Saturday and paid $37,247 ($36,290 + $710 destination + $247 documentation/inspection and we do not have sales tax). I did not think that was a bad price and there was no back-and-forth. I said I would buy it for $37k and they said okay.

We also had quotes of $31,916 for a 2010 EX-L w/ RES and $30,470 for a 2010 EX-L from Peters. This includes destination but there is a $247 documentation fee.

Does anyone have experience purchasing a 2009 Odyssey EX-L in the Detroit Metro, MI area?

I got offered invoice pricing of $31,500 for 09 Odyssey EX-L w/ RES (excludes tax, title, fee, delivery charge). Does anyone know if I can do better and which dealership? Thanks...
  • nobonobo Member Posts: 305
That same van could have been purchased for ~$28K in June.

If you going to spend over $30K, get a 2010, not a 2009 that has been sitting forever on dealer lot.
  • 1993umgrad1993umgrad Member Posts: 3
Thanks for replying. 28K in the Detroit metro area? Which dealership is it?
  • crimson_greencrimson_green Member Posts: 18
For us, we would never lease. We consider leasing as the easiest way to waste our money. It is rare to find a case where leasing is better financially than buying.
  • strawberry5921strawberry5921 Member Posts: 15
hey island van. I hear you. i had a gift of some $ or I may have looked closer. i misspoke on the crash rating. I looked again at the Honda site comparison which is kinda helpful. Sienna has 5 star front passenger ,but 4 star front driver. The Ody tray in the middle will fold down which I kinda like cuz i always have stuff and may want it down. It is interesting to figure out the differences cuz they are so close. If you click on the pix for each car on that Honda site which is kinda neat (they show you a close up for each side by side) the back of the cars look the same as far as the height to load something. The other differences are probably moon roof and things of lesser importance.

I've been looking for a 2010 EX-L for a while, and kept reading this forum. Now it's time to report some numbers for you folks and esp. for those who live in Charlotte area.

I purchased a 2010 EX-L Polished Metal with mud guard and wheel locks for $32000 OTD that includes everything ($710 destination, 3% tax, $499 admin fee, $68 tag, etc).

The dealer I bought from is about 40 miles away from Charlotte city. They accepted my offered price and would like to get the vehicle from another dealership for me because they initially didn't have the color I want. By the time I arrived there, everything was ready for test driving and sign up paperworks. Their kind service and quick turn-around are well worth the 80 miles round trip driving.

I arrived at home too late last night so haven't got time to really enjoy the van yet...but will do it soon! By the way, forget about the local "BIG" dealers who wouldn't budge with you, you may find good deals if you are willing to look around and further a little bit. Thanks all for your information.
  • bzsmilebzsmile Member Posts: 2
And you paid $499 for admin fee? Isn't it a bullshxt fee that we should never pay?
  • laplaslaplas Member Posts: 10
Either admin or doc fee whatever they called...you can certainly opt to not pay. But you need to find a dealership that would like to sell you car without such BS fee. Good luck!
  • 2010odybuyer2010odybuyer Member Posts: 6
Hi, I have a quote of $34K OTD (includes Doc fee + tax + title) with 10.5" after market DVD installed. Is this a good deal in Chicagoland area?
  • strawberry5921strawberry5921 Member Posts: 15
The $499 admin fee or process. fee - my dealer said was non negotiable.
When I got another quote across town (richmond, va) and showed him later, he (his mgr.) met the price by lowering the sales price. The $499 never changed.

After some face time with couple dealerships, I'm happy to report that I landed an 09MY Dark Cherry Pearl Odyssey EX-L w/ RES for $30,990. My OTD price comes to $33,100 (includes tax, title, doc fee of $190, 6% state tax, etc). It only has 49 miles and I'm picking it up on Friday.

Am excited and very happy with the deal. There's very few 09MY left in the Michigan area. If you're in the East side of Michigan and looking for one, I'll be glad to share dealership info, etc.

    1993umgrad,

Thanks for posting price in here. Can you share me the dealer name please? You can send an email to libertyleap@gmail.com. I really appreciate your help. I got a price of 34,673.34 OTD for 2010 EX-L/RES from a dealer in Farmington Hills, MI.

    Hi laplas,

    Congrats! Enjoy your minivan!
I believe you got a good price for 2010 model. I paid ~ 31900 OTD price for the car with options in it. Options: pinstripes, wheel locks, all seasoned floor mats, mud guards, cargo tray (useless) from Dealership. Later, trunk tray in ebay.

I was lucky ---> bought my 2009 Odyssey EXL RN in Sterling Gray color with < 2 miles, long in early May 2009, while Honda was offering Cash back (couldn't remember whether it's $2,500 or $3,000) for minivan. I enjoyed a lot!

    So, enjoyed your minivan! :)
  • laplaslaplas Member Posts: 10
Thanks for the input! yes, both my wife and I enjoyed the van a lot. Now I am looking for all season floor mats (or floor liners) it and WeatherTech brand comes to my attention. The whole set of floor liners sell for $250...any comments on that would be appreciated. Thanks!

Had to replace my 2006 EX-L R+N due to accident. Insurance total.
    http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ee93eaa/11768#MSG11768

What a difference 3.5 years make.

Best service at Desert Honda in Las Vegas,NV and Earnhardt Honda in Avondale, AZ. No EX-L R/N in the Vegas area and had to head out to CA and AZ. Earnhardt had both colors I wanted in stock but Desert Honda found the van in town at the last minute. A deal fell through at another dealership.

Earnhardt Honda was willing to pay my rental car from the accident since my rental insurance was running out in the next few days. Pay for the transport of the van from AZ to LV and a few other things to keep the deal. Unfortunately, I couldn't wait any longer as it was a replacement to my 2006 van.
Long story short. Earnhardt Honda Internet department will work with you to make the deal.

Desert Honda stayed with the sale to keep trying to locate a van via dealer trade or grabbing another dealers incoming inventory.

Desert Honda - Las Vegas, NV
Polished Metallic EX-L Res + Nav
    Purchase Price $35,277 +Fees,Taxes,etc.
    OTD - was around $38,5xx.
No Add-ons or scotch guard or anything. Factory Fresh w/ 30 miles. 15 driving across town on dealer trade.

I also had the luxury of using a car buying program so no haggling. Highly recommend that.
  • twins134twins134 Member Posts: 2
Have an internet quote for above at 32,290 +TTL. I think it's good but I have been waiting 6 weeks for the van to come in! Anyone else having to wait this long??? We are in the Green Bay WI area.
  • lyaolyao Member Posts: 71
The all season floor mats would be cheaper if you buy online. They're very useful.
I took out the buddy seat a lot, so I bought another cute floor mate for that little space just to make it look nicer. It's very useful esp. when the weather gets bad such as rainy days and snow days (I live in Northern VA, here has 4 seasons in a year).

Mine was bought from the dealership. Yes! I bought the whole set! So, very nice except pricey! Hey, I still think I get a good deal with the purchase of my new minivan though. So, I'm quite happy with that! I should have bought online instead, but I couldn't wait that long since May has lots of rain here (just wanna to protect my new car).

Try ebay or other online site for purchasing. Good luck! Enjoy your minivan! : )

Trunk tray is a must for Odyssey. I bought it on Ebay, very cheap, about $80. Very nice! I highly recommended!

    laplas,

Could you share the name of your dealership in the Charlotte area where you purchased? I got BS quotes from Hickory for 2010 EX-L and Touring, even higher than invoice!! Did you offer a price online, over the phone or in person?
  • laplaslaplas Member Posts: 10
Gerry Wood Honda at Salisbury, NC. All negotiations were done via phone. They are very friendly and would like to lower price to get customers. Good luck!

I bought the VAN last year. have 22K miles on it. After my recent oil change my VAN started shaking at different speed. I came to find out that there was a recall on the car and they updated some software during my recent visit which caused my van to shake.

I just called to complain about the issue and now they are saying they need to replace torque converter..... guys watch out with Hondas.... the van is not even two years old and it needs torque converter replacement.

I was offered a sticker price of $34,900 USD (vs $37,915 MSRP) for the 2010 EX-L with RES and NAV in Westchester County (north of New york City). Does this seem like a good deal?

One good part about their offer which is not mentioned above is that they would take make out of my existing lease (same model - 2007 version with 31,600 miles) with no added costs or fees (I have less than one year remaining). The existing vehicle is in great shape but does have some minor dents, scratches and scuffs that I suspect could run me $1,200-$1,500 in turn-in costs should I elect to turn in the car at lease expiration. I bet they's be able to sell my current vehicle for $24-$24.5K versus my buy-out (balance due) price of $19.5K (which does not include the charges for damages).

Any suggestions on how I should be looking at this or any improvements to the deal? Specifically, if folks have been able to acquire the same car for $31K, maybe I should turn it down.
