Seatcover manufacturers usually have a cutout for those autos with seat airbags, so as an answer to your question...go install seatcovers if you want...just be sure that your seatcovers slit matches the one in the seats.

I put the auto-dim mirror in my 05 Accord 4 dr...initially I said it did not work, the dealer said it did. To not get into a debate with the service department, I asked the dealer to order a new mirror at my expense and to install it at my expense. When I went to pick it up, the dealer profusely apologized and said the original unit was defective and that there was no charge...more flies with honey! It works great and now I have a couple of other people who have driven my car at night interested in getting the auto-dimming mirror for their auto. It is a good deal. Prices are as low as $175 at one of the Honda dealer internet sites I looked up. That plus Honda installation should be your cheapest bet if you want. Otherwise, if money is not an issue, then just order from your local Honda dealer.

I also just put the Gold Colored badges on my Red Accord EX and they look great...to me. The dealer service manager liked them so much he took off the white dealer logo and replaced it with a gold one., he said that he would start to recommend the Gold Honda badges for all of the Red Hondas he would be selling. Seems that they never had a customer put the badges on the Red Hondas...nice dealer.

The rear mounted spoiler kit from Honda has a new set of trunk springs and installation instructions included in the kit. If your dealer installer the rear spoiler, then the stronger trunk springs were already installed.

    My add-ons.

    Rear Trunk Spoiler
    Fog Lights
    Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror
    Gold Honda Badges
    Trunk Liner to protect rug
    Dashboard cover
    Locking Wheel Lugs
Sylvania SilverStar Low and High Beam Headlights

Everything except the nice dashboard cover and headlight replacements are genuine Honda parts either ordered from the dealer or through the internet.

Good luck on your Honda...enjoy it. It is my first Honda...I figured if I couldn't find an auto to keep its resale value and low maintenance for over 100,000 miles like Honda, I might as well join them...no regrets. 30-35 MPG on trips and 25-27 MPG around town...sure beats the gas-guzzling 2002 Ford Escape I have, and I have about the same acceleration from an I4 as the Escape's V6 with about a 25-50% increase in gas mileage.. .
  • oldjoeoldjoe Member Posts: 132
The Honda spoiler comes with alraedy painted to match your car color, all necessary cables, installation instructions AND a new heavey duty set of trunk springs.

I have some experience with a K&N air filter on my 2002 Escape...seems to be a waste of money to me. It made the engine sound louder, but no greater pickup and definitely no greater gas mileage, plus some owners were having problems with the oil in the K&N filter screwing up the IAC sensor. My two cents would say forget it...better to spend the money on a summer of milkshakes from Shake and Steak to keep the driver cooler!
  • haefrhaefr Member Posts: 600
Your experience mirrors what I've read on a motor oil forum. On the other hand, if the K&Ns aren't oiled sufficiently, they'll pass dirt into the engine. Dirt is fine silica. Silica is very abrasive. Common paper media air filters may not be sexy, but they do filter well.

Anyone get their windows tinted? Any issues with scratching the film when the windows go up/down? Did your installer put felt or moleskin in the window track to prevent this?

    Thanks!
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
got windows tinted at Honda they have lifetime guarantee. No felt or moleskin, but no problems either. On Honda Accord the bumps at the top of the back window do not ahdere well to the tint film. You have two choices: (1) only tint up to the bumps and leave a slight light gap or (2) tint over the bumps and have it not look like it is adhereing completely when viewed outside. I chose the later after they did the formaer. I did not like the light gap.

Do not get any tint that is metallic. If has will cause an eletrical phenomena know as "skin effect" , i.e. all electrons will go ot the surface of the sphere/enclosure, in this case the car window body and it will shield transmission and reception of enclosed electicalsignals, e.g radio, PDA, cell phone, BlackBerry, etc.

    Tint On,

    hey mid,

yea im concerned about the matrix at the top of the window. i dont want my job to look half-a$$ed. do you have any pix you could share?

and thanx for the heads-up on the metallic. i looked into this before and decided on a ceramic film.

My tint shop put felt on my car to keep the tint from scratching over the long haul...It may not scratch immediately but they said over a year it would if I didn't have it. I used the shop that my Honda dealer recommended. I used non-metallic for the back window and metallic on the sides. I have black interior so the metallic reflects the sun/heat better.
  • dynamitedandynamitedan Member Posts: 8
Do you have light reflection from headlights at night off each individual defrost line?

It happens on my car but the tint guy says it's normal.
  • rbevz67rbevz67 Member Posts: 69
Could you clue me in on how much extra they charged for felt please?
  • dynamitedandynamitedan Member Posts: 8
They charged me an extra $30 per door because they have to take the door panel off. The total for the tint job for the rear window and all 4 door windows and the felt cost $345. The tint came with a lifetime Guarantee from bubbling or turning color...because I got the felt the shop also gave a lifetime guarantee on scratching caused by the window going up and down. The installation is also guaranteed for life. I would be weary of any tint shop that doesn't at least suggest the felt for 03 and up Hondas. I called Honda to confirm before getting it because I thought the tint shop was trying to sell me extra stuff but Honda confirmed that the went to a plastic only piece and my service guy at the dealership also confirmed that it was preferable.

I am looking for an original(OEM/factory) 1995 Honda Accord keyless entry system. If anyone has one, or knows were I can purchase one, please e-mail me. Thanks a lot.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    milobmx,

For something that old, your best bet would be to visit your local auto wrecking yards. (Be sure to bring your own set of tools and some hand cleaner.) If they don't have what you need, they can surely do a national search using their database and network.

    Hey all,

Just bought a black accord LX, first I need to get all weather mats, as I am in NJ and winter is coming soon. Can anyone suggest a place to get them for a good price as well as which one should I get, honda OEM or some other brand? Also looking to get mud flaps if anyone can suggest a place to get those from as well and also if I should go with OEM or not. BTW are there any other places on the net aside from here where there are honda fans specifically accord owners?

    Thanks for the help.
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Not true. Metallic will also afftect you telcommunications: radio reception, cell phone reception. Electronic phenomena called "skin effect" will effectively shile electronic signals goinf in and out of inside of car.

Any decent reputable window tint manaufacturer now has lifetime warratny. However uusally costs around $300.

Whatever you do , do not get metallic tint unless you don't talk on a cell hpone and only listen to CDs.

U want ceramic tint. Pay the extra $.
  • another_personanother_person Member Posts: 93
For floor mats, I just went to costco and got a set for $20 which seem to fit the accord perfectly, and the dark color match my dark interior and they don't really stand out. If you want the honda ones, then check out http://www.handa-accessories.com/accord.html or http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/home.htm it list everything on your list for what is suppose to be below the price of the dealers. If those prices are too high, theres always ebay.

I get a slight reflection from the defroster lines on my Accord as well as an earlier model Maxima. Got used to it so it is no big deal.

Does anyone have the optional Honda MP3 player installed in their Accord? If so, I need to know about one particular feature.

If you are playing a disk full of mp3 files, will the it start playing the files exactly where it left off - since the last time you turned the car off? I believe this is called the "resume" feature. This feature exists on my Panasonic CD/MP3 player I had installed in my 95 Civic. It is a very handy feature. If you are playing 150 songs, you don't have to scroll through fifty songs to get back to the song you were listening to the last time you were in the car. I downloaded the manual for the Honda mp3 player, but it doesn't say anyting about this.

Hi, I was wondering which one should i get for my 1997 honda accord. Any suggestions? If i were to get ngk or denso, would iridium last as long as the platinums? Thanks
  • haefrhaefr Member Posts: 600
Either will do fine. Iridium isn't quite as hard a metal as platinum*, but it exhibits slightly less electrical resistance. Chemically, it's in the "platinum series" of the Periodic Table, too. My '03 Sonata V-6 came from the factory with NGK platinum spark plugs, but Hyundai issued a TSB last year advising its dealers to use NGK iridium spark plugs as service replacements.

    *They're both very hard metals.

(This from babcox.com: "Denso and NGK have both introduced new premium plugs with iridium alloy electrodes. NGK says iridium is even better than platinum in terms of corrosion, and resistance and ignition performance.")

    davehonda,

There are no "essential" accessories that you should buy. Your new vehicle came very well equipped straight off the assembly line. Of course there are personal preference items that you might want to consider. The only item that I'd recommend for winter use in your area might be snow tires. Boston is not considered a severe weather area. If you were further north in the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, that would be a different situation.

Here's a link for accessories that will be less costly than buying from your local dealer:

    Hi blane,

Thanks for the link...I got a cheap floor mats from wal-mart ..what other thing i am thinking of is splash guard..what do you suggest. Some people say that it will protect your car from getting dirty..to be honest I have no idea on any kind of accessories...
    Thanks
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    davehonda,

I bought and installed splash guards from H&A. They took about a half hour to screw on. They also keep some gravel or stones from kicking up to damage the paint at the rear of your wheel wells. As I wrote earlier, it's personal preference. No accessories are necessary for your EX.

If it's not a Honda accessory, you can bet you will take a hit when you trade the car in.

A dealer will look at them and know they are not factory original, and take off for that. How much, hard to say. Now, that upgrade may actually make the car easier to sell, but they aren't going to tell you that. They will argue that they have to spend $ to replace the rims.

With that said, if you do have them chromed, post a link to pictures of them. I was tossing around the idea having the same thing done, and I'm curious how they look.

  • haefrhaefr Member Posts: 600
So sell the stupid car privately. With a high-demand car like an Accord, doing that is neither difficult nor will it result in the inevitable "hit" that trading through a stealership results in. (Just don't make any verbal guarantees about mechanical condition, finance the sale yourself, or take a personal check. ;))
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
Amen. I wonder why there is so much concern about trade in value. By practice you will almost always get more for a sale than a trade with the dealer.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
I always sell my cars outright, but some people won't do it no matter what.

  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
I guess you're right mrbill. I think that taking the trade out of consideration before you consider buying makes dealing for a new car easier as a bonus. I can see time being a problem for some, but if you have a car that at least runs, someone will buy it and the only way the dealer will top what you sell it for is by inflating the price of the car you're buying.

Just bought 05 Accord; checked the HandaAccessories.com and found out that installing the door edge guard required scrapping the paint of the door edges. I am new to installing accessories, would greatly appreciate the help.

Make sure your new Accord has Remote Start...many auto makers are making it standard, but I don't really know if the Honda Accord 2006's have it stock. Replace your high and low beam headlights with Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. It's an easy option that really adds more light. Winter set of floor mats will save your standard mats from being screwed up by snow, ice and road salt. If your Accord is Red, add the gold badges...they look great. The automatic rear view mirror is great for my driving, plus it gives you basic compass directions...keeps the !@#$%^ people who drive unconscious behind you on high beam out of your hair. Add the rubber fender flares that keep slush and crap on the road and not on your car.
Add locking wheel nuts for keeping your tires out of "Southies" hands. Add the trunk storage box to keep crap off the rug in your trunk.

I have my first Honda too after 50 years of driving and I am constantly surprised by how many people ask questions about it.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my expreance with the metal look trim kit for our 05 Accord EX sedan, I4, 5AT.

Spent $180 for this piece of junk <<< ( see that host ). :shades: I was appauled at what I saw in the box-o $180. About $2 in cheap cheap plastic trim with even cheaper looking adhisive strips on it. We have owned the car since new. I really wanted this trim kit so I sucked it up knowing Honda had burnt me for about $160. I cleaned the dash mounting areas with windex and followed that with alcohol wipes, three times each and let dry. Trim went on easy and looked great! Held very good. I was feeling good. Went in to eat dinner. Brought the wife out after dinner to admire the trim install. All but one piece was laying in the floor. I tested the surface with masking tape, 3M dubble sided tape and duct tape over night with afew of the parts. They all stuck and stayed overnight. Now counting my time, shiping and the cost to ship it back or go buy a good 3M auto dubble sided tape honda has basicly ruined the whole mess and cost me about $250 bucks no matter how its looked at. I logged a offical complaint with honda. As if they cared at all. And told the rep. that I would never buy another overprice under engineered honda accssery ever again. And to think I was about to pop for one of there auto day/night mirrors for a ungodly high price.

Beware of there over priced junk.

There as never been any armor all or any other protectant or sealer ever applied to this car. I knew it would be a problem with a trim kit sticking to the dash. When we bought the car I asked if any had been used during the prep of the car before we picked it up. I was asured none had been used.

Such a waiste of money and time.

Here is some info about the optional MP3 player, which I had installed on my 06 Accord. Not many people get this option - probably because it's so expensive. I'm posting this for future reference - because I could find little about it here. But I've been playing MP3's for years, and it was important to me. I didn't want to have to rig any other alternative to playing MP3s. Hopefully, the next generation Accord will play MP3s like the new Civics.

Anyway, it works exactly as I hoped. It has only one button (eject), and is controlled through the main radio/CD unit. I have an LX (without CD changer). Because the MP3 player also plays normal audio CD's, you can now have two CD's loaded into the dash at any time - and switch between them. The MP3 player always remembers exactly where it left off (track or middle of track), when you park your car. It will start playing exactly where it left off the next time you get into your car. It has no problem playing CD-RWs. I did notice that the track numbers displayed on the main CD unit can only display two digits. When you get to mp3 file number 101, 102, etc, the display starts over at 01, 02. This is not much of an issue, except there might be some confusion as to whether your playing track 2 or 102.

On other note, I hope someone will post a way to disable the daytime running lights.

    Hi oldjoe...
No Remote start is not standard on HA 2006. For mats I got a cheap one from SAM's club. They are very thick and made of rubber (sorry I read your post very late)..
By rubber fender you mean splash gurad on front and back...I already have the locking wheels ...
Just for curiosity: I often find car wet in the mornings (because of early morning dew) and then those drops leave the scar as they dry up during the day. I am living in an apartment wiht no covered parking and worried about this. Please let me know what people usually do for this...I know of quick detailing but is it good...

As far as I know, there is no locking cap available for the Accord (or any Honda for that matter). Access to the gas cap can only be had from inside the passenger cabin (opening the cover door). For all intents and purposes, the lock on the gas cap is the lock on all 2/4 doors.
  • mrbill1957mrbill1957 Member Posts: 823
They are available at many auto parts stores. Partsamerica.com shows one for $14.99

Do you honestly believe that pry-able plastic door will stop a determined Escalade-driving soccer mom once the price of unleaded gasoline hits $4.75/gallon? ;)
