In our case, they told us it had to be a cashier's check or a certified check. I didn't even ask about a regular bank check. We paid with a cashier's check.
I think your analysis is exactly on target. The MSRP for the '07's is only $100 more than for the '06's. The remaining '06's are being sold for much less right now because of the $750 dealer incentive, which is not applicable for the time being to the 07's. In a couple of months, the incentives will start coming out for the 07's, and their prices will go down by a few hundred dollars, depending, of course, on how well you negotiate.
But in principle, buyers should keep in mind that the '07 is MSRP'd at only $100 than the '06.
We were able to get a good price on an '06 in the trim/color we wanted so we went for it. There are no discernible differences between the '06 and '07, so we thought there was no point in waiting any longer.
I am actually surprised that the '06 and '07 are so similar. Honda even used the same photos in the printed brochure. I know there will be a total redesign for the '08, but I would have thought they would make at least some minor changes for the '07, just to differentiate it from the '06. The only change I could find was that the '07 has a slightly higher curb weight (~100 lbs.) than the '06. I don't know what accounts for it, though, because otherwise the specs are identical.
Yep, 39.2 on my last trip, 38 on the one previous - both with moderate A/C use (on about 70% of the time) and a cruise speed of 75 MPH=2,500RPM.
On trips I'm VERY careful with throttle though, doing my best to keep the car from ever having to downshift (which I can't always do, but often can go 240 miles all in 5th gear). My father's 2005 EX I-4 Auto once gave me 39.96 MPG, but I couldn't break the 40 MPG barrier! LOL, that trip was with no A/C.
Oh yeah, regular gas, Chevron w/Techron always run in our cars.
I am loving this car, on my last tank I went 434.1 miles on 14 gallons - just over $30. Not bad in my opinion, considering that was suburban/urban highway with one high-speed run to the hospital. Everyone is ok (don't worry) but the car was very stable over 105 MPH (low traffic - interstate - flashers going).
Andysd: I'm in the same boat you are--I'm torn between getting an 07 and putting it off until the all-new 08 Accords arrive.
Here are thoughts I'v come up with...
Reasons to get an 07 Lower price Almost completely debugged I get a new car soon
Reasons to get an 08 There's no solid info in public on the 08s but it seems almost likely it will-- get better mpg have stability control across the line have sleek styling a bit like the Civic
But there are reasons to avoid an 08 It will probably have a few more problems than an 07 (1st year cars do, even Hondas and Toyotas--check out the Camry woes board) It will be significantly more expensive. The list price may not be that much higher $500-900, say, but the actual prices will be much higher than the 07s. When a new generation of Accord comes out there's almost always very high demand in the first few months as some people want to be the first on their block to have the new style. Dealers therefore discount very little until production is ramped up.
All in all I'm leaning a bit toward on 08 (perhaps bought in the summer of 08, so that discounts are more likely and at least some of the early bugs are worked out).
But, if there are screaming deals on the last of the 07s in a few months I may go ahead.
Shopping for a car for my daughter and I got these offers.
$21,270 for the SE V-6 . This price includes the car, destination, and dealer fees.
$19,710 for the SE I4. Again, this includes the car, dest, and dealer fees.
Both are automatics. The invoice on the I4 w/auto is $20,097 for the car + dest. The invoice on the v-6 is $21,638 w/auto for the car + dest.
What makes the deals even sweeter is the 36 lease deal you can get on either one. While not as good as some prior lease deals, these are pretty decent (around 5% effective interest). With not much out of pocket, $239 + tax for the i4 and $249 for the v-6.
The dealer is located in the southeast US and other dealers may match or beat the prices. The SE seems a sweet spot on the lineup - just a little more than an LX but adds rear disc brakes, 6 disc in dash changer, and alloy wheels.
07 for both of them - I think these high volume, deep discount dealers don't have any 06 cars left.
In the end, my daughter decided she would rather have the Civic EX than either Accord. Her money, her choice. We got a decent deal - about $700 over invoice for the Civic EX including the dealer fee.
One dealer is in GA (Atlanta area) and the other is in northern KY - so not worth your $200 I would not think
Actually, the KY dealer has not confirmed they will meet or beat the GA prices but in the past they always have. I will post when I hear back from them in case they will go lower.
If it were not for the dealer fees, it might be worth a flight in and a drive back - those things are just getting out of hand. Every place I check you have to be sure they tell you what the fee/fees is/are as some folks will give you a good price then "forget" to tell you they have several hundred in "prep" or "doc" fees. I have heard tails of some dealers that will give quotes and leave out destination and dealer fees - hoping to get you to come in then add those on. Hoping that once you have made the trip you will shut up and pay them. So always ask When I post prices I try to do it for the car+dest+fees since everyone would pay that price and everyone has different tax and tag fees.
Hi, I am new to this thread and I just saw your post today regarding Accord SE V4 and can you please let me know the dealer name in ATL. I live in ATL and looking for Accord SE 06 or 07. If I get 2007 SE for the rate you mentioned 19,700 including dest and documentation fees I want to go for it.
The GA dealer is Hennessy in Woodstock. Forums rules prevent me from saying the person's name or her contact info, but if you go to the dealership's web page at this link and click on specials, their names and an e-mail address will come up.
In e-mails they give the price for the car + dest you have to ask about the "prep fee" which is pretty high, but all that matters is the total of the car+dest+fee which is what I posted and was good as of just a few days ago.
I have no connection with the folks there or the dealership, other than I get quotes from them a lot when helping people find deals. They are normally VERY competitive on Internet quotes.
I heard back from the northern KY dealer today. They can do invoice for either the I4 SE Accord or the v6 SE Accord - these are for 07 cars - and that price includes the dealer doc/prep fee - so it would be invoice + tax/title/license and you are done.
I4 SE w/auto $20,087 V6 SE w/auto $21,638
That is a little higher than the GA dealer, but still not a bad price for a new 07 car at the start of the model year. You can couple these prices with the $239 or $249 a month lease deals for a lot of car for a little down and a little each month.
Hi Dennis, thanks for your quick input. I went to a dealer in Gwinnett and need to negotiate in the weekend. I saw the website you mentioned and in the inventory they had some SE's for 20,477.00. I need to do some home work before going for negotiating in the weekend. Do you have internet quotes for that price (19,710.00) which includes dest and doc fees? If you have it please let me know. Again thanks for your input.
I posted the prices from the GA dealer that INCLUDES the car + destination + doc fee + GA lemon law fee. That plus your taxes, tags, and registration is it. I don't know where you get your numbers and wacky math with the decimals in the wrong place.
$21,270 for the SE V-6 . This price includes the car, destination, and dealer fees.
$19,710 for the SE I4. Again, this includes the car, dest, and dealer fees.
Those are the numbers I was given and includes what I said.
Don't call them, don't stop in. Go to the web page, get the link for the e-mail address. Compose an email to them for a price quote on the car you want. Ask them to include the car + destination + dealer prep fee in your quote. Don't mention where you are or anything else. You should get back the same numbers I got if you ask for the same car. That is all I do when I want a price from them, just send them and e-mail and tell them what I want. The prices they give are usually "non negotiable" - normally because they are so cheap you can't see how they are making much money
Hi, thanks for your suggestions. I will request the email quote and update you in this forum. Meanwhile update me if you have any suggestions. I will decide something by this weekend.
I have no idea, I guess they make it up in high volume. There is a hold back from Honda so invoice is not actually dealer cost. There could also be some factory to dealer incentive money on these cars that we don't know about - or if they sell more than their quota, etc.
If you find a left-over 06 there is $750 in "marketing assistance" on those, so getting one for $750 under invoice would be possible now.
As far as I know, all Accords are made in Ohio with some MAYBE being imported from Japan.
Your profile does not show where in the country you are located. I would post that info and see if someone in your area can recommend a dealer known to discount. If you are not far from GA or KY then get one from those dealers and save bucks. Holmes Honda in Shreveport is known to deal (but not on Civics) and there are a couple in the NJ area known to deal. There is a dealer in the NE that claims to be the "largest" and "will not be undersold" but I can't remember the dealer's name. I think the largest volume dealer is in CA, but I have no idea if they deal low or not - but one would assume so. I think one or two Chicago area dealers are known for really cheap prices as well.
In my area, none of the dealers really deal unless you just get lucky (last day of the month and they need one more unit to help make quota) so I go out of area or state and send folks out as well. Sometimes if you want a deal, you have to travel to get it.
If you show a cheap quote to a local dealer they will usually tell you to go get it. SOME dealers will tell you any price and when you try to get the car they hit you with more stuff. They know you drove or flew and will not want to leave empty handed. So posting your locale and getting a recommendation from someone that has dealt with them is a big plus.
Hey Dennis, which dealers in NJ are known to deal? Also, it seems like you really know Accord well so that I have one extra question. I am debating really hard between the I4 and the V6 SE. Is it true that the engine/tranny on V6 is more problem prone than the I4 and the Honda/Accord is not known for the V6 engine? Everybody is welcome for input.
Grand Honda I think is one of them. Someone used to post the ads from Chicago over on an s2000 board and I think it was them. In the print I ad I linked to they are showing $21,444 for the 2007 SE v6. That is under invoice by about $200 and in the fine print their doc fee is $57 or so.
A guy from O'Hare Honda posted a decent price on a Civic ($1k over invoice) in the Civic price thread, so they might to invoice or less on an Accord.
Keep in mind, if you can get close to the same price from a dealer that is fairly close to home take it - don't try to squeeze the last nickel out of every deal (or from every dealer). Sometimes you can't and just make yourself and the dealer angry
It was posted here about a year or more back, when I was shopping for an Accord for my wife. I can try to dig back through my e-mails and try to find who I "talked" to back then.
I have not heard of that many Accord problems. CR has the v6 as the top rated family sedan for this year (over the I4). They do show in 03 worse than normal repair ratings for the transmission which has improved to much better than normal.
What most folks say: Drive the I4 and see if it feels under powered to you. If not, then buy it - don't drive the V6. If you think the I4 would not be enough power, then drive the V6. The v6 costs more and drinks the gas at a little faster rate (a little more in the city and a lot more on the highway). Probably has a better resale value for the v6 as well. All the v6 Accords come with stability control included, which is not available on the I4 Accord - but is likely of limited benefit for a FWD sedan.
I would not let rumors scare you off if you want the v6. Get the one you want and slap a 8yr/120k mile HondaCare warranty on it and have years and miles of smiles.
What most folks say: Drive the I4 and see if it feels under powered to you. If not, then buy it - don't drive the V6.
Very true. The Accord felt great to me (having not driven the V-6). I've driven a V6 since I bought mine, and it is much quicker on the highway, but offers no real benefit in town below, say, 40 MPH. It's real strengths lie in highway passing power. Needless to say, I'm still very happy I got a I-4 model, especially since I'm going to the beach Friday, and routinely get 38-39 MPG on those trips!
Swope in Louisville told me they would do either 07 SE model for invoice including dealer fees - which is not a bad deal at all and less than two hours drive for you.
Cincy is about the same distance from you. You might try faxing all the dealers there a request for price quote (car+dest+dealer fees) and see what you get back. I would be surprised if you got back any for invoice or less, but you will not know until you try. You can also check the dealer web pages to get a feel for their pricing. Do they have a current ad online or current specials? If neither, then they don't update the page much and may not be into "Internet pricing". If they do, you can see what they are offering. For example, on the Hennessy (GA) page they have the 2 SE lease special that Honda offers, but $20 or so per month less with about the same out of pocket money. The lower price is due to their deeper discount. You can also try e-mailing all the dealers for a quote. Some will have closed or full mail boxes, the better ones (and more likely to deal?) will get you a price back right away.
I looked in my notes and it was Open Road in Edison and Jersey Honda. Open Road is still there and has a web page up. The Jerseyhonda.com domain is still registered but nothing comes up there and they don't appear in the dealer locator, so I assume a name change....
You said The remaining '06's are being sold for much less right now. How much do you think is a good OTD price on an O6? I dont care what they charge for all the add on's, I just want the bottom line. I am getting quite the run around from dealers. thanks
Hi i am very new to acr purchasing, You said: If you find a left-over 06 there is $750 in "marketing assistance" on those, so getting one for $750 under invoice would be possible now.
How do I know the invoice price the dealer is quoting me is correct? where would I look to find it for my self? thanks.
Right here on Edmunds is one place. Go to the 2006 Accord page at this link and pick out the model you are interested in. For example, we click on the I4 LX Special edition sedan w/auto. The numbers $21,525 and $19,378 come up - this is MSRP and invoice (not including destination). Click on price with options, there are no options so pick a color or say not sure, then click on the TMV button. The numbers $22,120 $19,973 $19,963 come up - this is MSRP, invoice, and Edmunds "what others are paying" prices including destination. Below the prices is a link for the available incentives. Click on that and it should take you to a page showing the $750 cast to dealer on 06 Accords that expires 10/02.
So at TMV price the dealer is still making $740 plus any dealer fees. A lot of times the factory money is tiered based on sales VS quota for the month. So the $750 could be an "up to" number. A dealer that has made their numbers for the month will get $750 off of each one sold, while another dealer may be under quote and get $0 or something between $0 and $750 per car. Sounds like room to negotiate to me.
I have posted prices in the Southeast US for 2007 Accords for invoice or a little less including destination and dealer fees. Before I would pay invoice for a 2006 I would take a 2007 at invoice. Heck, paying invoice for a 2007 may be better than paying $750 under for a left over 2006.
Your profile does not show your location. If you tell everyone the part of the country you are in then perhaps someone could jump in a recommend a good dealer in your area? Me telling about invoice or less in KY or GA does you no good if you are in Washington state
Thanks this is very helpful. I am in New York/New Jersey. So far I have tried to contact 5 local dealers via e-mail. They send back generic e-mails and only 2 followed up with phone calls. Of those 2 I have only gotten a run around. I cannot get anyone to talk seroiusly about prices. they say they will call back then if they do, they dont remember anything I have told them. I find it all very frustrating. I would appreicate all advice.
Try Open Road in Edison. Someone posted here a year or more back they were good to deal with. Their online current ad shows good prices.
You can also try going to carsdirect.com and pricing out a car like you want from a local dealer based on your zip code. If the price is good, then fill out the "have a dealer contact me" form online. "In theory" an area dealer should contact you and sell you the car for the carsdirect.com price shown for your area plus a (modest, we hop) dealer fee.
Or fly to Louisville and drive back a new 07 for invoice - it looks like 720 miles or so. The GA dealer is cheaper, but is 120 more miles away (and is a long way from the Atlanta airport).
Yes. The price is supposed to be the car with dest and dealer prep fee included - at the price I quoted.
Someone else got an online quote THIS week from them and was given $18,993 + $477 prep fee = $19,470 for the I4 SE with auto. A little better ($240 on the I4) than I got last week. This is in the Atlanta, GA area.
Not sure which dealer you were referring to but the best price I've received on the 07 Accord SE 4 cylinder is $20,999.00 plus TT&L here in San Antonio
asked initially if they would accept 19,428. the first dealership salesman started throwing a fit saying that is not possible. i can only sell at my invoiceof 20000. went to the next dealership and they countered with 20000 too and they will lose money as they have the protection package on it. i then suggested 19740 and they finally accepted for 19800, but managed to sneak up a documentation fee of $55.
being a new model i am not sure if i got a good deal or not. seems like i overpaid by about 380 on top of what their real invoice is. But the number of sales people coming and talking about the price to me asking me to go up on my offer has been surprising not to say the least,

I-4 SE-
$20,087 including $595 transportation fee.
sales tax -$ 1255.44
reg.,title,lic.,fees- $173.55
$21515.99 Out the door.
Again, on a 07 Accord SE.
The dealer is in Central Texas.
Someone else got an online quote THIS week from them and was given $18,993 + $477 prep fee = $19,470 for the I4 SE with auto. A little better ($240 on the I4) than I got last week. This is in the Atlanta, GA area.

so here is my experience in dallas area.
model - accord se 4 cyl 2007
msrp - 22,220
invoice - 20,087
price paid - 19,800
documentation fee - 55 + TTL - total otd 21,270
including dealer added protection package - wheel locks , cargo tray , splash guards
asked initially if they would accept 19,428. the first dealership salesman started throwing a fit saying that is not possible. i can only sell at my invoiceof 20000. went to the next dealership and they countered with 20000 too and they will lose money as they have the protection package on it.
i then suggested 19740 and they finally accepted for 19800, but managed to sneak up a documentation fee of $55.
being a new model i am not sure if i got a good deal or not. seems like i overpaid by about 380 on top of what their real invoice is. But the number of sales people coming and talking about the price to me asking me to go up on my offer has been surprising not to say the least,
let me know what you think,
