I got a price of $19,428 for a 2006 4 cylinder LX SE automatic back in August. Bought a 2007 V6 Hyundai Sonata Limited loaded with leather and Infinity stereo for about the same price and couldn't be happier.

Finally, got 2007 accord LX auto sedan for 18580+tax+dmv fee=$20380. It is possibly not a super deal, but I am tired to do more bargain.

What FEES did you pay? There is no way a dealer made any money at $1,500 below invoice. When you are an invoice buyer, they will get you with fees. On most cars their cost is about $400 to $900 below invoice. They can get you with fees if you are another type of buyer.

I use the OTD price and buy cars in minutes for a fair price. That would usually be about $2,000 off MSRP on honda or toyota cars in the $25,000 range. I have NEVER paid a dealer FEE.

I see little point in having dealers compete. I have tried it. It takes too much time. Use the OTD and the fees will disappear.

Help! I walked into a dealer and recently got a quote for 20,580 'out the door' after some haggling. Can someone tell me if this is a good deal for a '07 Accord LX AT? I just realized the '08 model will be a new design so I'm having second thoughts about whether this is a good deal or not. Shouldn't the price on the current model drop some? What would be a good price (total out the door, I'm no good with the +taxes/fees they tack on).

Btw, I'm new with the online pricing they give out. What's the usual amount you should add to the online quote to figure out final price out of pocket, 10%? I'm in Southern CA. Thanks!

I'd like to avoid being sold a relatively 'old' new car (hope that made sense). I'm not able to tell if one has been sitting on the lot being demo'd etc., except by the miles on it. What's a reasonable number of miles I can expect to see for a NEW car?

On the driver's door jamb there is a sticker that has the month and year of manufacture.. For instance.. 05/06 for May, 2006..

The tax is dependent on zip code, I guess. But add about 10% over the car price. According your OTD price, I guess they gave you about $18780, including the destination fee. I am not sure it is good deal or not because I got similar price.

Thank you so much for the links, robinmd. I have bookmarked them for future use. Looks like they cover almost everything (minus normal wear and tear items).

    Thanks again!!!!

Did your car include an alarm installed? Now they say alarm is an extra $600/700. I thought that was built in. Is that right??
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
If you're talking about an LX Accord, no alarm comes with the car, only a "panic" button on the remote that will activate the horn/lights.

The security system comes on models "EX" and up, if I'm not mistaken. TO make sure, check automobiles.honda.com and look at the "trim summary" for the Accord to see what specifically comes on each specific trim level.
  • pgrunnerpgrunner Member Posts: 25
Thanks for the link! You're right, no alarm on the LX. Any idea what an alarm addition should cost?
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
Well, an alarm through Honda would cost a LOT more than getting an aftermarket system.

A standard Viper alarm system installed (a good quality system) would run about $200-$250 if I had to guess, just by going by this website.

I finally received my HSBC loan package today. HSBC doesn't send a draft, they send a real check and they require the dealer to call them at the time of purchase to get an authorization code for the check. I'm going to buy my coupe tomorrow and will report back, but have been told that the great price that I was quoted in El Cerrito still stands. If that falls through I have a deal in Dublin for just $600 more. Thank you again for your help Dennis.

Does anybody know if there are any incentives on the Accord or if they will be reinstated soon? They don't seem to be listed on this web site, but it seems that some people are getting prices that suggest there is some kind of incentive.

Yesterday I got the quote of $20,750 for 2007 4 cylinder LX SE automatic Accord. Is this is the good deal? I am a new buyer. This is my first car. I am in CA. Please suggest me I am getting good deal or not?

    Thanks

    Dear Dennis

We purchased a Honda at Dublin years ago and I believe they still offer an extended warranty that IF you do not drive over 75k over I believe six years, you will get your money back without interest.

    We got our money back.

I also remember that the finance rep tried the old trick of changing the contract just before we were to sign. I always bring my calculator with me and I knew what the payments were to be, and I called him on it. He tried to add $ 1000 onto the contract.

    Good luck to all

I noticed there is no check box for AC on the TMV custom appraisal for the 2001 Accord DX. It is also not listed as a standard feature. I am pretty sure it wasn't standard and the car I am looking at says it has it but it doesn't appear to have the AC button. What is the price difference for an AC vehicle vs a non-AC vehicle?
At this point it would be very cost prohibitive to install.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,740
huh ... tough one. I think its worth what you are willing to pay. :)

i dunno... on an '01 DX? Maybe $300-500? Just make sure it actually has it.

They all have the Doc fee that is not negotiable. Did you get a qoute from Deland Honda? They are the easiest dealer to deal with in the Orlando area.

Can some one illuminate me on how taxes work when buying in another state? What tax will the dealer collect, his state's or mine?

I am targeting an OTD price of $20200 for 07 SE manual. Is this a good target? My state tax is 5%, and I factored $300 for tags and other fees.
  • slazengerslazenger Member Posts: 99
It is not a good deal. I am assuming there are no other accessories on this car. You should be able get one for about $19,500+TTL. Try other dealers.
  • slazengerslazenger Member Posts: 99
Well, some dealers don't collect tax from out-of-state customers at all. You just pay it at DMV when registering your car. However, if you want to include taxes in financing, then you can ask the dealer to include 5% tax in the paper work and cut you a check to pay taxes at your local DMV.

$20200 OTD means the car the price is around $18950. It is an OK deal but not a great deal. See if you can bring it down to 19800~19900 OTD.

Bought my 2007 Accord Coupe EX-L with/navi today for just a hair over 28k (including taxes, destination, registration, etc.)

I highly recommend Honda of El Cerrito in El Cerrito, California.
  • ramanath_mramanath_m Member Posts: 7
    Hi Slazenger,

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what TTL means. I have got quote for Accord 2007 SE(Special Edition) with out any other accessories for $20750.00 including taxes, registration and DMV fee etc... I am located in Walnut Creek, CA. I am not sure whether am I getting good deal or not?

Is any one got less than this price? Please let me know? Any other suggestions will be greately appreciated.

    Thanks
  • slazengerslazenger Member Posts: 99
TTL stands for title, taxes and license. Out-the-door price (OTD) = negotiated car price + documentation fees + TTL. 20750 out-the-door is a good deal. I am assuming taxes in CA is over 7%. If you are planning to negotiate, try during last week of the month. If the dealer hasn't met their monthly target, they will seriously consider your offer.
  • eponineeponine Member Posts: 3
I received a quote of $22,755.65/OTD $24,779.04 a good deal? I haven't been in the market in such a long time for a car.
  • slazengerslazenger Member Posts: 99
It depends on your location. $22755 is a fair price (approximately $400 below invoice). Some others have been able to get EX-L for $22500.
  • eponineeponine Member Posts: 3
    I am located in Florida.
  • mi2kshopmi2kshop Member Posts: 19
I am in the market for a SE manual. From the prices that I have seen here, it appears that the best 07 prices are about $1000 below invoice. One dealer has told me that he has a few 06 EX-L MT. There is a mfr to dealer $750 incentive for 06 models.

What should be a good target (relative to invoice) for this model? Thanks, slazenger, for your earlier response.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Edmunds says $750 on left over 06 Accord sedans and $1,250 on 06 Accord coupes. The 07 money is not shown and may vary by region. It would seem likely there is some kind of incentive since some dealers will do invoice (for the car + dest + dealer fees) and others will go under invoice.

Given that, I would probably not be interested in a new 06 car. I don't THINK they could make it worth my while to buy it. If they sold it to you for invoice including dealer fees less the $750 incentive then you get a model year older car an only save $750. The only way I would consider it would be at a $0 profit price. Take the invoice (around $22,300 for the 06, I think) less the $750 incentive and less all the hold back (3% of the MSRP or about $740) and you would be around $20,810 for the car with destination and dealer fees. Since you could get an 07 for $22,446 (or less) then this price to take the 06 off the lot might be worth considering to YOU. Now, getting the DEALER it accept that price might be a problem.

Pretty much any dealer willing to make sweet deals should have run out of 06 cars long ago. This one has "a few" still on the lot? I would make a run at a no profit price with the dealer and then just move on to someone who will sell you an 07 for invoice or less once this dealer tells you "no". :D

  • mi2kshopmi2kshop Member Posts: 19
Dennis, thanks for your very informed opinion. Even after wringing out all the profit like you suggest, the difference may still not be all that great. The best prices for 07 EX-Ls I have seen on this board are about $750 less than the invoice. If I am able to get something close, the difference between 06 & 07 will still be only around $1000 (or less).
  • mi2kshopmi2kshop Member Posts: 19
More on the same topic. I just compared 01 and 02 EX/Leather prices for the same mileage. There is a difference of about $1600 in trade-in values. So, I think I should look for a difference of $1600 :surprise: before I buy an 06 if I intend to sell it around that time. Does this sound right?
  • octormoctorm Member Posts: 9
    "Does this sound right?"

Except that I doubt if U did the used car pricing for the same mileage between 01 and 02 EX/Ls.. maybe I am wrong, but $1600 seems a big difference

I am shopping around for a 2007 Honda Accord LX, 4 cylinder, automatic...and the best price quote so far that i have received is $20,575 Out The Door. Is this considered a good deal? If not, then what would be a good deal..out the door? What are the possibilites of receiving a price quote of less than $20,000? Maybe i will wait till closer to the end of month for a better deal.
  • pgrunnerpgrunner Member Posts: 25
The inside of the trunk hood on my LX looks like a plain metal frame with no soft mat finishing to cover it (hope that makes sense). I'm trying to figure out if that's the way it's supposed to look or if they forgot to install the mat covering. Can anyone share whether their trunk hood has a soft gray 'cover' on the inside so you don't see the holes and metals of the frame? I'd hate to hear my dealer say that was an 'extra'.
  • pgrunnerpgrunner Member Posts: 25
I'd say it depends on your area. That's pretty much what I got but taxes for me is around 8%. If I had to do my purchase over again, I'd throw in a bunch of 'extras' like the protection package and alarm etc. prior to haggling. If you can wait you'll probably get a better offer towards the end of the month but choices of certain colors etc. might also be less.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
It doesn't come with a mat like you are talking about. I have a 2006 EX Accord, and it looks exactly like you said...metal framing lookk to it.
  • pgrunnerpgrunner Member Posts: 25
I'm looking at this photo of the trunk at the Honda site (last pic in the gallery) and it shows that there's this grey material on the underside of the trunk 'door'. Is that not standard?

I just looked at my 2006 EX V6, and the inside of the trunk lid is covered with the fuzzy, molded type gray material that covers the rest of the trunk. I didn't pay any extra for it, and it doesn't appear to be anything special.

    Hope this helps.
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
Hmm, my 2006 Ex doesn't have it. Maybe it doesn't come on 4-cylinder models. I dunno. It's not exactly at the top of my must have list for car options.
  • mi2kshopmi2kshop Member Posts: 19
I was also surprised. I looked at the number again -- it is around 1500-1600. I checked kbb as well, there it is close to 1100. It may be hard to put a firm number to used prices. Ultimately would depend on to what extent edmunds or kbb numbers drive the used market.
  • mi2kshopmi2kshop Member Posts: 19
Is their a website that would let me select all (or many) dealerships in a local area to request a quote? Honda's site does it only one at a time. Edmunds and KBB seem to allow a few, but I dont think they let you pass a brief message along with the request. There are many others that contact just one preferred dealership. So, what would be a good choice? :confuse:
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Get the fax numbers from the Honda dealer locator and just fax them over what you are looking for and invite them to fax you back their offer. If you don't have a fax line then you can ask them to call you but tell them you want their bottom line price for the car with destination and dealer fees included. If someone calls and does not give you that info right off, tell them to buzz off and cross them off your list.

Contacting them via internet or e-mail will usually meet with a lot less success. In a lot of dealerships they never check the web or their e-mail much. My daughter was looking at a Scion before she decided to get her new Civic and I e-mailed all the local dealers asking what they had in stock for her to test drive. A couple of the mail boxes were full (for days on end) so my message never got through. Of the ones that did, only a single dealership answered it.

It is normally a lot less work just to ask around in your area and find out which dealers will deal low prices - and work with them.

Is 24,500 OTD for a 2007 accord EX-L with tint and wheel locks considered a good deal?
  • kingrkingr Member Posts: 62
My 2006 LX V6 also has this material on the inside of the trunk hood, It must be there in an attempt to keep the car quieter inside.
  • pgrunnerpgrunner Member Posts: 25
You're right. It looks like the cover only comes with the V6 model to muffle sound. Too bad, I just hate to see the raw metal paneling with wires sticking out. Looks unfinished.
