I have just requested quotes for the Accord Sedan LX & SE from 3 dealers and am getting the following:
LX: $18,764 (includes $595 destination charge) $149 documentation fee will be added.
SE: $19,396 (includes $595 destination charge) $149 documentation fee will be added.
I have never gone about purchasing a car this way before. These are St. Louis dealers and I'm getting the same quote from each one.
Are these reasonable quotes or should I expect to be able to haggle more from the price? Are there other hidden costs that I should be aware of? If anyone has some advice, I am all ears right now! Thanks everyone!
Hey everyone, Here's the internet deal I got at Ourisman Honda (Laurel) for an Accord LX, automatic. They send you an instant internet quote, and you can leverage that with other dealers for a better deal:
I did a lot of email back & forth between them & Hendricks Honda, finally went with Ourisman because closer & probably will service with them. We had agreed on an 'appearance package' included in the price (mud/door/wheel guards, pinstripes), but when I got there, they tried to get me to 'split the difference' on the package. I got up to walk, and they let me have it.
Hendricks might have been smoother buy (can't say for sure). They're both selling way below invoice to move enough Accords by the end of the month and get their sales/volume bonus from Honda. My rec is to go between Aug 20-30, and wheel & deal.
Amshere helped me a lot (post #16390), and got the same deal except VA tax was cheaper and came to $17,500 out-the-door.
Good luck. Feel free to contact me at vkirti2000 at yahoo dot com if you want to buy from Ourisman.
If you don't mind, what amount was the initial internet quote for? I'm just starting this process and am wondering how much fluff is built into the first quote. I plan on buying at the end of month. My quote was for $18,764 (which included $595 destination charge). Thanks!!
Although partly kidding, I need to say that if you found it a joy doing business with a dealer, then you probably didnt get the best deal you could have. Let's all be honest, buying a car is a good natured battle with dealers to find their bottom line. You can only find their bottom line by playing hard ball, working dealers off each other's quotes, and being prepared to walk off a lot when the dealer says "Whoa, if you can find a dealer to sell for that price, I'll buy their whole inventory!!" I LOVE that line, its a standard in the biz, and one of many to beat you down and get you to cave in.
I'll give out my info after i pick up my car...i was told not to tell anyone about the deal. What should I make sure they do not doo?
The tires were bridgestone i believe? What do they usually come with? What else can they screw me with before delivering my car?
My dad warned me of them changing the battery, tires, ect. if I got such a deal...i am just wondering what I should check for...i will help people out after i pick it up in a few days
Two weeks ago my wife and I bought a odessey the price quota in St Louis were $1500 over what we paid but it was a lot of hard bargaining back and for between dealers. I have family in Chicago and got price quotas from there also which started $700 less
I've been to two Honda dealerships, not really enamored with any vehicle in my price range so was hoping to get an Accord EX-L at a price listed in some of these posts, looked like I should be shooting for $19k, but the cheapest I've gotten someone was over 22k and that is the lowest they would budge. Then they start spewing me BS when I mention invoice from an internet site saying it's not true then showing me the "real" invoice price, saying how the next gen is going to cost so much more (not even close to the same msrp as it currently is), blah blah.
I'm seriously considering going back to leasing an Acura TL, so indecisive but doesn't look like I will be able to get the car as cheap as you guys
was hoping to get an Accord EX-L at a price listed in some of these posts, looked like I should be shooting for $19k
I think your hope is too high. I don't see that many people are able to get around $4300 off invoice. You really need a lot of luck to get that much of. It depends on area and how many cars the dealer still have in their lot.
In Philly area, there's only 1 dealer is willing to do 2.5K off and that's only for a couple days or so. All other dealers only do 1 to 1.5K of invoice even though they have 150 Accord on the lot.
I asked earlier in this thread what to shoot for and was told 18.5-19k, thought it was too low, and was I guess. 3 months of car shopping and I have no idea what I'm going to do heh.
Well, you can always ask but there's no guaranty that you're going to get it. I think if you want really cheap you need to look at those around your area and be willing to drive/fly over to get the car. This is easier if you don't have a trade in.
I don't want to start a debate between the Accord, Camry or Altima here. However, the Accord was never on my shopping list. I want either the Altima or the Camry but I back of the Camry b/c of too many problems w/ the engine.
The reason I look at the Accord b/c I think I can get a good deal as many others here but like I mentioned earlier that dealers here in Philly don't want to get rid of their Accords. I went to a dealer that offered 2.5K but they offered my trade really low at start.
So, I decided to get an Altima instead at the end.
Hi I am also from the twin cities area did you get any good deal on Accord. I am looking for Accord EX-L V4. Did you get any OTD price, I got one price quote at 23,165 OTD . Did you get a better deal ?
Hi All, I have been looking for an Accord EX-L from Minneapolis/St Paul area, I haven't got a good deal till now,the best I have got is 23,165 OTD. Did anyone else got a better deal in Twin Cities.
I am in the DC/MD/VA area- do you think there will still be deals to be had on 2007s in Sept/Oct/Nov? Is there enough inventory on the lot for that? When will the 2008s start arriving?
Thanks for the reply mikesch!!! I'm going to hit it hard this weekend in St Louis and see how much headway I can make. I'm also checking out of state dealers to compare price quotes. Does anyone know if it is a big headache to buy out of state?
Not a big headache,IF you're buying outright w/no trade for the dealer to adjust. IF you get it firmly in writing from the dealer. IF the dealer offers you several to choose from. Just my .02.
Okay, $20k. Is exactly what they should be charging around for the EX-L I4. Not 23k, there crazy, because o8's are here very soon! Tell them, you know what others are paying and $23k is high right now! You will sign the papers and drive off now, but not for that. I would just laugh, and say, well do you plan on keeping these cars on the lots with the 08's? Name your price, after all its on your terms, not theirs.
Okay, well what you need to do is send in several email quotes, with what you what you want, and pick the best one, and counter offer if you need to. Than that way you have it documented. Even a dealer further away, won't matter, most dealers will match, they will want your business. Log on to Honda, and it will give you local dealers. You will totally get a good deal, and save you all the run around. Some dealers might not reply, but send in several, and you should get what you want. You shouldn't have to haggle, if one dealer doesn't want to work with ya, move on!Also call dealers too, and name a price like 20k, right off the bat, Say you'll come in right now if they give you 20k for it!
I send off emails to Honda Dealers around twin cities asking for quotes on EX-L 4cyl w/o navi and this is what I get. Richfield Bloomington - 21588 plus TTL Honda Hopkins - 22391 plus TTL Buerkle - 22645 plus TTL
Still waiting for a quote from Burnsville Walser and Luther Brookdale. Though Walser offered me 22091 plus TTL when I went for a test drive couple of days ago.
I requested a quote from Hopkins Honda and got $22391 plus TTL. Also got a quote from Richfield Bloomington ($21588 plus TTL) and Buerkle ($22645 plus TTL). So far Richfield is the cheapest for me, but nothing less then what you got from Hopkins Honda.
Your price for EX Coupe Auto: $17395(sale price) / $23450(MSRP) = 0.75 That's 25% off MSRP. The model I'm interested in is EX-L Sedan I4 Auto without Navi. Take your price into consideration, I should aim for $24250(MSRP) x 0.75 = $18187.50 + destination, document fee, and TTL from that dealer. Wow, please tell me the name of the dealer and where is it located. Thanks.
All the other dealers a very high, I am also trying to get the quotes from North Dakota, let see if we get a good price from them, let me know you mail id so that I can mail you if I get a better deal. I am also planning for a EX-L 4 cylinder so if we buy two cars may be we can get a better deal.
I contacted Boch Honda in MA this afternoon. For Accord SE, they ask for $18,397. It is much higher than the price other guys on this borad got. Any suggestiones on how I can negociate with them. Thanks a lot.
Did you request a quote from their internet sales manager or did you just call them or walk in to get that price? Their internet sales manager should be able to do a lot better than that.

Purchase price would have been 21,740. Dealer cash in California is about $1,500 but the above deal (because of the phenomenal Money Factor Rate) includes only about $500 dealer cash...still under invoice.
I made an offer on their website and one of the sales(He called him Business Development Manager) sent me an email back. Do you have other way to contact with their internet sales manager? Thanks.
Anyone know what they are on 4door AT accords right now? My sister is looking for a VP or a LX. Would like to know so when I deal for her I can try to get a good deal.
It is automatic and the exact price was 17,497 but this was back on 8/2 and I the guy that emailed me said he was one of the Senior Internet and Phone Sales Managers.
I emailed you my ID on your email address that I found from one of your posts here at edmunds. Please check it out. Let me know when you are planning to buy your car? Did you get any other quotes?
Happy to report I got my royal blue LX 4 cyl. manual today in Cincinnati for $16,800 +doc fee $250 +TTL. This cars purrs like a kitty cat. I could not be more pleased, though now I need to find a new hobby. Shopping for a car has been a full time hobby for 2 months+. My search included BMW and Volvo bec I wanted a new look, though I read too much about repair issues with those cars. My search always came back to honda, the bulletproof reliability car. Was also offerred 17,400 for SE manual.

Make sure the dealer don't remove the michelins and put on subpar tires. I have heard of this happening.
Congratulations on your deal!!!
Here's the internet deal I got at Ourisman Honda (Laurel) for an Accord LX, automatic. They send you an instant internet quote, and you can leverage that with other dealers for a better deal:

What area did you purchase the vehicle?
