Thanks for the feedback myfunkycoupe. Let's see how low I can go. One of the dealers just flat out said bring me your lowest quote and we'll beat it. There seems to be one or two '07 EXL-Nav Accords at pretty much each dealer so I still have inventory on my side for a few more days.

Any suggestions on accessories though? Where I get stuck in price, I'm sure I can squeeze in something. Backup camera? I don't need something like an mp3 CD player when I have the aux in and can just hook up an ipod.

Thanks for the review. It has now made me think twice about buying a 2007 model. Ugh. :confuse:

Can anyone give me the price experience of Accord 2008 EXL 4 cyclinder AT?
  • recadanrecadan Member Posts: 10
If you are looking for automatic, you might be disappointed. An 07 LX auto's invoice is 19.6K and your target price is 16K. That is like $3600 under invoice.

I jsut got a discount of $1000 the MSRP of any 08

Can you help me negotiate financing, extra options, and anything else I could get to make it a better deal.

I purchased on 07 EX-L V6 and it has a rattle coming from the back. The dealer is working on fixing it and is stumped. Did your dealer figure out what was rattling? If so, I'd appreciate you sharing what it was or at least giving me a name of someone who the service mgr working on my car can call. Thanks!

First you should drive both cars to see if, for the model you are considering, the price difference leads you to one or the other.

No doubt the 07 is a great car too. We looked at both. The deals on the 07s were and are incredible. But we concluded that all of the discounts on the 07s would impact the resale (and insurance) value of the car. Plus we keep our cars for 7-10 years, depending on mileage, and long term, we concluded that it was worth paying more for the 08 than taking the discount. It all depends on your model to model comparison (EXL V6 Navi 07 vs. 08 there are many differences), how you are paying (cash, loan, lease), and your usage. It made sense for us to wait and then get the best deal on the 08.

I continue to see how much the local market is influencing the pricing on the new cars. So in CA they are charging well over MSRP, while on the east coast they are at MSRP, just over, or maybe $500 under. Never really thought of it, but YOU CAN PLAY THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!!! We drove 1 1/2 hours each way to get the car, and saved big. The rural dealer we bought from had to take one EXL V6 Navi on his allocation from Honda, and I think he would have sat on the car if it wasn't for us. Depending on where you live, use the Honda website to locate dealers, and then go outside your local area to a place where you think they might have the car, but would not sell it because of their local market.

I would get the "door edge guards," and the "rear view camera." These are 'dealer installed' options, so perhaps you can get a dealer to 'throw-in' one, or both, on your purchase.

    Aniously awaiting my 08!

Can you please email me the dealership's name and location. Thanks. QDOI@yahoo.com

One of them. They have the one we do plus this one called the Aurion which is a combination of our Camry SE/XLE with Se interior among other things. Will probably show up in our shores as a "refresh" for the Camry for model year 2010.

The sticker price on the 2008 EX-L V6 is 28,600 at the dealership I visited. any tips on negotiating a lower price or finding a dealership where I can get a better deal?
  • srizvi1srizvi1 Member Posts: 265
    Hey George,

as this in response to my question on what options to get for when I hit a standstill on price? I'm not sure what door edge guards are, but maybe I'll go with that rear view camera at least.

Do you know if this option can be put in an '07 Civic w/ Nav? That's the other car we're considering.

Again, the goal is to get the Civic around $19k OTD because I'm pretty sure I can get the Accord for under $24k out the door. At my current best price on the '07 Civic coupe auto w/ nav of $19,390 + dealer processing, tax, & tags, It's not worth it for me to get the Civic if I can do an '07 Accord for only $3500 more.

I have leased many cars from American Honda. Never an issue. They also cover up to $1500.00 in wear and tear dings at no charge. That is 3 different body problems etc that total 1500 max. Not a single $1500.00 dent. I have never been assesed a penny at closing of the lease. I have ZERO deposit with them. Deposit may depend on your credit. I am very established with them so no fee. I dont know about new leases for others. NEVER NEVER NEVER pay a cap cost reduction. That is for SUCKERS. Sign and drive only. If a car lease is 300.00 plus 3600 down (36 month lease) cost is really 400 a month. If that same lease was 400 a month zero down that is a better deal. You are leasing so why pay anything down? I have never paid one red cent down other than tag/tax and I have donw at least 20+ leases. I will wait on the 08s as they seem a little high now as there are ZERO lease programs. If you can wait until nov/dec things should get better.

I would like to put an 08 Accord coupe on reserve, but I don't want to commit if I know it may be that I end paying $1000 over MSRP for it. I know have very little negotiating power buying a brand new model that's not even out yet, but can I expect SOME dealers to budge somewhat on the MSRP before reserving? Would they laugh if I emailed saying that I will reserve the car if I can get it $1000 below MSRP? Thanks

I already received internet quotes the first week for $1,000 under MSRP. You should use the link on the Honda web-site to get a quote from all Honda dealers in your area. Play the quotes off of each other and when you got a dealer who is willing to work with you, go face to face, tell him what color and trim level you want and that you're willing to wait for it to come in as long as he gives you the best deal. If not, you'll buy down the street.
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
Just wait for them to get stocked up and don't be so desperate that you have to have them "hold" one for you. Of course, they are not going to discount it to someone so desperate to get the car ASAP.
If you have to have the first one they get on the lot, you will pay the price.
Most Honda dealers still have 90% 2007s for Accord sedans.

If you're willing to wait for it to come in, then obviously by definition, you're not desperate to get it ASAP.

I've found that some dealers are short-sighted in that if you don't want to buy a car that's on their lot right now, then they don't want your business. Other dealers have a more long-term view and realize that an easy sale down the road is beneficial to them, and they'll get the car you want added to their allocation.

You can't make a blanket statement that applies to all dealers. You have to shop around because dealers behave in a wide variety of ways.
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
Putting a deposit down shows you don't want a 2007, but you are desperate to get the first 2008 Accord coupe that arrives because you are scared they might all be gone before you can rush to their lot.
The first ones probably will sell fast since they might only get one or two at a time the first few shipments.
If you must have one of those first few cars, you will pay premium for that.

Rob, since you lease so many cars, I just wonder what's the typical number for these with 0 down:

    Accord (22K MSRP) 24 months/36 months:
    Altima (22K MSRP) 24 months/36 months:

    rickytick,
I did not buy the car from that dealer. But the salesman figured out what the problem is. I am so not knowledgeable about car parts but here I go...

He tapped on the panel behind the seats (adjacent to the rear windshield) and was able to reproduce the rattle. Then he lifted open the trunk, and figured it is something coming from the trunk's ceiling. He held the part that was suspect with this hands, and asked me to tap on the panel. No more rattle. He said the service guy had it fixed.

Speaking of rattles, I cannot believe my 2007 Accord EX-L I4 Auto. It is rattle galore. I hear it from the back sometimes and then from the front. Really disappointed with the quality. I blindly thought Honda's are the best after reading all the user reviews. Lesson learnt.

Can anyone give a a good target price for a 2008 Accord EX-L automatic 4 cylinder? I've searched through this thread and saw that a target of $25,550 for the 2008 EX-L V6 might be doable, but I was curious what a good target for the 4 cyl version would be.
  • george123george123 Member Posts: 16
Sorry about that, it is NOT the "door edge guards," but the "body side molding" that I would suggest. I know nothing about the Civic, except that it too is an excellent vehicle.

    All good things,
    George

I am looking to buy 2007 Accord SE 4cyl AT this weekend. The best price that I have received is around $18,500 + destination and taxes. Is this a good price? I live in NJ. Also, is there any point in waiting for the Columbus day weekend, just in case there are some extra sales or something?

most of incentives and rebates are ends on Oct 1st. anybody know if there will be new incentives and rebates come out after Oct 1st if still want buy 2007 models? Thanks
  • newhonda07newhonda07 Member Posts: 17
    lxaly,
I am not sure if you are going to get a definitive answer one way or the other. To me, the incentives that are publicized/published are only an indication, who knows exactly what goes on behind the scenes between the manufacturer and the dealer.

I just bought a 2007 EX-L I4 Auto this week, because I needed one for next week. When I bought it, there were no incentives publicized on this model, but I got about $2500 discount below the invoice.

If you are not in a real rush, I would wait out or at least try to get the best deal out of these dealers.

I will be really surprised if the deals go down on the 2007 models. If anything, the dealers should be more desperate to get rid of them. On the flip side, you might not get the "exact" car you want because of fewer models in stock.
  • george123george123 Member Posts: 16
The body side moldings are $220, and the camera, about $450. You can go to:

    http://www.honda.com

and "build" your car, with pricing.

    Cheers,

You say you got a 2007 EX-L I4 Auto this week for $2500 below invoice. Edmunds lists the invoice as $22600, does that mean you paid about $20,100 for yours (plus TTL)? Thanks..
  • crikeycrikey Member Posts: 1,041
This may be a regional thing. Edmunds shows the incentives for my area to last until 10/31/2007. But, like many others have pointed out, availability would likely be more of an issue the longer one waits.
  • george123george123 Member Posts: 16
Ray, have you investigated "CarMax?" I was there recently, and they have some very low (6K) mileage 07 Accords. If you want new, I think you should make your move NOW. If there are any "Columbus Day" sales, they will promote 08's.

Anxiously awaiting delivery of my 08.

    Is that a coup, Vital?
Pearl Blue is hot, what color interior did you order?

I ordered a Sedan, though the coupe looks awesome it's not practical (for me anyway) as i'm always hauling things in my back seats... computers, or other equipment.

It's in Royal Blue Pearl (though I like the Belize Blue Pearl better) it's only available in the coupe.

I put down a $200 deposit via credit card - no big deal.

    I'm excited!
  • hondahawkhondahawk Member Posts: 16
well either way, you're getting a great car. Keep in mind depreciation vs. incentive. Are the incentives really worth having a rapidly depreciated vehicle on 1/1/08?
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
The depreciation will be no big deal compared to what it normally is. It's not as if he is paying MSRP for a 2007 or that the 2007 is going to be "avoided" as a used car several years down the road.

I just priced used 2002 and 2003 Accord LX automatics on KBB.com with the same mileage, 70,000 (there is no reason for mileage to be any different for the two model years in this scenario) and good condition and there was only $270 difference in trade in value between the two body styles. You should be able to get a new 2007 discounted several times that difference.

You should be able to get a 2007 today for a MUCH larger price difference compared to a 2008 than any resale difference will be.
So, no, you will not make up the extra cost of the 2008 with better resale value unless you overpay for the 2007.

Since when did Honda have rural dealers? What do you consider a rural dealership? Are all the Hondas there green with a yellow deer on the hood?

So Im still deciding on the Accord SE 2007 4cyl. Ive gotten the price down to 19K + TTL. Invoice is 19601 + theres an 800 dealer incentive. SHould I try to take this price a lot lower or is this a good price to pull the trigger on? Thanks!
  • master_ryumaster_ryu Member Posts: 47
Is anybody buying the 08 Accord coupe at MSRP? I really want the car, but I've been quoted full MSRP for several dealerships already. For the trim I want (EX-L V6 w/Nav)most of them are getting only 1 or 2 for the whole month of October. Heh, I do just want to jump in and buy the car at MSRP, but I would feel a tad bit better knowing that somebody else got suckered in like I am now. Hah.

    Hello all -

Just thought I would send out word to people for an EXL with automatic if they were looking.

Went to dealership yesterday to lease. Came to a price of 24062. Just got an email from another for 23,429. End of the month is a great time to buy!

So I will be leasing the 23429 car, 36 months, 15k per year. Depreciation is 62%, mf is .00285 as has been posted previously. I am putting 2k down to pay out taxes and fees. Lease payments are coming to about $319/mo

    Hope that helps everyone.
  • bvdj84bvdj84 Member Posts: 1,724
Wow!! That is an amazing deal! Great Job! I plan to get the EX-L, possibly one with the navi. Wow that price is great too! Dealers are wanting to show that they have moved some 08's this month. That is totally the payment I want. Although I am going to wait until around Christmas or little after. So really if I wanted the navi, with this deal, I would be paying about $350 or under for payment. That is not bad for being the top of the line. Enjoy your new car! I want the Belize Blue, Black, White, steal gray, those seem to be really good colors that make it look really good! I am excited!

    Good Job!
  • jaxs1jaxs1 Member Posts: 2,697
IF it's really true that they are only going to get 2 the entire month of October, then you aren't going to be able to get a better price than that.
You would be better off waiting until all the 2007s are sold and replaced with a full stock of 2008s.
