www.hondawarranty.com is the official site by Honda, as far as I can tell. That's a pretty good price for 7/100, I think. I bought the 7/75 one for 695 since I drive only about 8-10k a year. It's unlikely that anything will go wrong with your engine or transmission, but if it does you're covered (as long as you do your oil changes per the owner's manual and keep your records). I don't know what an engine or tranny would cost, but I bet it would be at least 3,000 (and probably more for the engine). It's quite possible to have a power window (or something like that) fail sometime in 7 years, however, and those alone probably cost something like 700 to fix. If you want peace of mind, like me, it's probably worth it.

I paid $18,900 for a 2002 Accord EX Sedan, 4 Cylinder, Automatic in the NW Ohio area. The out-the-door price was $20,154.13 which included a $50 DOC Fee, $1,184.38 Tax (6.25% Rate), and $19.75 Title and Temporary Tag Fees. I also got the 4.75% Finance Rate for 60 months. Thanks to all who have previously posted their prices paid.

...is NOT an official site of Honda, just a storefront for a dealer: Curry Honda - 765 Memorial Drive Chicopee, Ma 01020, as it says on the bottom of the website. BTW - I got cheaper quotes for Honda Care warranty from the dealers that post on the odyclub.com website forum than what is quoted by hondawarranty.com.

What does the current inventory of 2002 Accords look like at the dealerships? How long can I expect dealerships to carry the 2002 Accord model until they run out of inventory? August? September? October?

I am considering buying a 2002 Accord but am willing to wait as long as possible to get the lowest price. How much can I expect 2002 Accord prices to drop between now and when inventory runs out?
  • ljgusaljgusa Member Posts: 6
Right now 2002 EX V6 is selling at around $21000.
If you want the color you like, better hurry up.
No doubt 2003 model is superb, but 200 hp on 2002 should be more than adaquate for a family sedan. If you want a nice car with a bargin, the 2002 Accord should be the right choice ....

Jump if you're gonna jump! I'm seeing some models depleted already.

He may not have lost out just yet, there are still dealers willing to sell a car cheap enough.

Just saw a TV ads - Altima is on sale at $18900 MRSP $25000! You are really spoiled if you are in the market for a car now. Happy car shopping!!!
  • asethiasethi Member Posts: 76
Which Altima trim are you talking about? Here in Massachusetts, the base (with no ABS, roof...no nothing) is selling for over 18000. It's not really worth it. We've been out shopping for a family car (already have a roadster and an SUV) and the Altima is way overpriced for what it offeres. How can they expect people to pay the same money for a V6 Altima and a Maxima? We got an 02 4-cyl accord EX instead, yes it's got 20 less horses than the 4-cyl Altima, but who really cares about that in this class of cars when we're getting a 6 dish built in disk changer, power seats, powered roof, ABS, side airbags, alloy wheels........ Got it all for 17.5K, not to mention 0% APR for 60 months compared to the 8.5% that nissan was offering.
  • ljgusaljgusa Member Posts: 6
It should be a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 4A) with some sorts of options - MSRP around $25000. It was on a TV ad here (Michigan Area) but I didn't go to the dealer for confirmation - I bought a 2002 Honda EX V6 a week ago at 21.3K. Thought it was a good deal and enjoy it everyday now. Anyway, congralts on your new Honda!!!

Dealer suggests $18600 for Accord SE.
    Is this good deal?

    Thanks in advance.

might want to check out www.herbchambers.com at seekonk for some other specials or other big dealers and see what they have...looks like they may have a EX AT for 18388...which might be even more car...looks like the big dealers have better prices...good luck....
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Good not great. There's a $1250 incentive from Honda to your dealer to help them move the car. It really depends on where you're located, the market may not be as competetive where you live.

Honda is presently offering 4.75% (upto five year) financing on the '02 accords. Any info. on what interest rate they may offer starting september/labor day when they start rolling out the 03 accords (9/10)?

what are the current incentives for the 2002 clearance cars? financing options etc... i'm looking at either trading in my '00 accord coupe-auto for the '02 accord coupe-5speed, or selling my car outright, getting more for it, and dropping all that cash on the new car. i know i want the '02... before the 7th gen's come out.. deals should be good for the end of the month, and the end of this body style. what should i be looking to pay realistically etc..

i'm about to go peruse the rest of edmunds.. haven't had to do this in so long. have to get back into the current swing of things. thanks!

Looking to buy a 02 EX V-6 and have found a wide array of prices just for the car and the Options I want are the wood trimmed steering wheel, moonroof visor, splash guards, wood trimed audio panel, and tinting. Anybody out there found a good deal somewhere in Houston? Will prices get any better in September? What price is a good base to go by? 21K? Anybody get it for lower? Say 20K?(meaning just the base price before the options?)

Mustbuy - I purchased an SE for $17800 out the door from Herb Chambers the last week in July. The interest was 4.75 for 5 years. Check Clair prices they had been advertising for $17,199. Honda Cars of Boston may give you a good deal but I think Herb Chambers is more willing to vary from their advertised price than the others. When I first went in, they offered the car for $20,810(not including tax, reg etc) Later we agreed on $16,700. and with tax and etc. the final out the door price was 17,800. Just remember to check all amounts and information on documents before signing with business administrator. The price I agreed on was not on the first document they were going to have me sign. Also they did not offer the 4.75 at first. Before going in use one of those handy calculators on honda websites and decide on how much you want to pay then deduct your down payment and how long you want the loan for and use 4.75. That way when they tell you your monthly payment you will know if the correct amounts are being placed on documents. Good Luck and remember do not sign anything until you have checked every line including insurance information.

Jimmyx2 - Very much appreciate you info. Looks like you drove a very good bargain at Herb Chambers. Was it real hard and what kind of info did you use while bargaining? Any particular reason as to why you didn't buy the 7yr/100k extended warranty on the car? Thanx once again,

Before I went in to the dealer I had been checking all the Sunday papers for about 6 weeks. (you can go to the library and check the Sunday Boston Globe for these ads) I find the paper often has more price info than the internet sites of dealers. Next I read all the emails from this site about prices. Raybear was helpful in telling me about the incentives. I was unable to find any current incentive information on any sites. So I was really fortunate Raybear told the website. I also checked websites outside Boston and Massachusetts. Just so I had a pretty good idea what I felt would be a fair price. I had intended to purchase from Honda Cars of Boston and was still looking when I purchased the car from Herb Chambers. When the salesman asked what price I wanted to purchase the car for - I told him $16,700. (I had really wanted to say $16,500 but at the last minute I said $16,700) who knows maybe I could have purchased it for l6,500 - but I'm happy with my deal). Some one in my office just paid 17,500 (not including tax etc) at Weymouth Honda. Do not recommend buying from that dealer and not just because of price.

This is my first experience with Herb Chambers but have purchased from Honda Cars of Boston - top notch service department and sales person was helpful but I don't think they can go below their advertised price - which is usually on their website. Clair and Bernardi usually have their prices on website also. Boch doesn't neither does Herb Chambers, Silko, Cambridge, Honda Village, Honda Barn, Honda North, or Kelly Honda.

As far as the warrenty, my son had purchased one for his car - not a Honda - and when he went to use it for the first time he was told the repair was not covered. It's a lot of money you are giving to someone and may not be able or need to use it. Put it in the bank and let the money grow! I didn't need to buy the car the day I did and I think the dealer realized that. How badly you need the car will factor in. Can you wait long enough to haggle with more than one dealer? Don't forget read, read, and read everything before you sign! Good Luck!
    Good Luck!
  • mustbuymustbuy Member Posts: 5
Can you confirm that price again for me?? Also any info on the dealer in MA and haggling techniques would be much appreciated.

JimmyX2 -- You have been a great help. Could you possibly provide me with the name of the sales guys at Herb who help you out. Tx.

Anyone have any idea whether incentives, including the 4.75% financing and $1,250 cash back to the dealers will continue in September?
  • tanveermtanveerm Member Posts: 42
Almost no chance it'll go past the Sept. 9th 2003-model introduction. There isn't going to be any cash back on the 2003 model. Not sure about discount financing. Depends on Honda's strategy to compete against Toyota. If Toyota offers discount financing on 2003 Camry, Honda may follow.

After Sept. 9th, not sure what will be offered on any remaining 2002 model Accords. Even without a nation-wide cash-back policy, any dealers left with 2002 models in their lot will need to discount aggresively since the car will be officially one model year older. No way anyone should buy a 2002 model without a generous discount.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
I work with Honda customers and dealers every day.

Prices have already started to recover as inventories diminish. If you haven't bought a new Accord yet, you may have missed the best discounts already.
  • pegasus17pegasus17 Member Posts: 536
As supplies of the 2002 Accord diminish, dealers will be less likely to deal aggressively. Now is the time to buy BEFORE the new model arrives. Dealers know there will be people who don't like the new model and will buy a 2002 in September. Supply will be down and pricing is anybody's guess. Here in Ohio this week, you can buy any 2002 Accord at 1250 under invoice without much hassle. It's a tough choice...

mustbuy - the salesman was Johnny Dang at Herb Connelly. Before going in determine exactly what you want=model, color, any extra's. Then try to determine what would be a fair price =based on the incentives and quota incentive. Also this is the end of the month = read most of the items if possible on this forum (how much did you pay) to get a better feel as to what others have paid. Understand that the dealership is going to try to get the best price as well as you. Do not get angry but be willing to say thank you but tell the dealership that you feel your offer is fair and you want to check other dealerships. Check other dealerships for their inventory =how many same models still on the lot will help or stop you from purchasing at the price you want. Earlier raybear warned everyone to buy soon or there may not be much negotiating as the inventories dwindle. What model were you interested in?
  • mustbuymustbuy Member Posts: 5
I just agreed to buy an Accord EX V6 for 21.3k. The color is Green although my first choice was Silver. Just wondering if I paid too much?? The dealer is also throwing in a 5yr/100k miles PowerTrain warranty if all services were done at their location and free every other oil change. Would you think it would be wise of me to get the 7yr/75 or 7yr/100k miles extended warranty considering the powertrain problems people are experiencing on their EX V6 models? Also, what would be a fair price for the warranty ?
  • dls2002dls2002 Member Posts: 2
priced out a 2002 SE. most dealers did not want to go under 17800. Finally accepted a black one at Honda Cincinnati East for 17.5k. then I added back on the spoiler for another 500 so it worked out ;-). Most dealers had 2 or 3 SE's on the lot. Choice of colors is narrowing quickly. There also seemed to be many 2002 accords in general of different varieties.

I just have to relate my story from this evening -- if I don't get a chance to vent, I may actually bomb this guy's house. (j/k, law-enforcement types!)
We went into HONDA CARS OF CLARKSVILLE (Indiana) the other day, looking for a Silver EX V6. They didn't have one, but George, the sales guy said that he would call if he came across one. Well, he called today, and my wife and I went in after work. After they finished pulling the tape off the car, we test drive it, and decided that we wanted to see if we could get it.
HONDA CARS OF CLARKSVILLE is offering the Accords at a pretty good price right now -- $22,055, which is (MSRP - $4500). They are also doubling the manufacturer's warranty to six years, 72K miles. Granted, this is a fairly good price. It's actually close to the price I was going to walk in with, which was $21,978. Given that they were offering it at this price, though, I had to ask for some add-ons.
At first, to see if they would bite, we asked for them to throw in the spoiler ($499 MSRP). Sales guy pretty much nixed that, so we asked for, and stuck to the idea of them throwing in the wood grain kit and moonroof visor ($199 and $79 MSRP). We told them that, if they did this, we would pay MSRP for the spoiler, which we wanted pretty bad.
George seemed a little doubtful, but after confirming a million times that we had a deal if they threw in the wood grain kit and the visor, he decided to write everything up. He wrote down all of our information (contacts/salary/house payment/etc), and asked us for a deposit check. After we confirmed with him a million times that we expected them not to "lose" our check if we decided not to buy, he took it to the sales manager.
Sales manager guy comes up with the usual story about how low priced the car is already, and, in the end, told us that he couldn't do it. We said "ok," took our check back and walked out. This is where it get's interesting.
As we're standing by the car talking, this 6'7" thug-looking guy walks out and tells us, in this booming voice, how we owe George an apology. "He worked for two days on this deal!" "Don't you know he works on commission?!" "For you to sit there and look smug and walk away from the deal is just rude!" Seriously, this guy had his voice raised, and was damn near yelling.
We were darn near speachless. My wife was like "Who *are* you?!?" He said that he was the owner (I don't believe it). After I explained that we weren't there to make George money and that he could be as mean as he wanted and it wouldn't change things. Not only that, but wow, we had never been treated this way before.
Needless to say, we aren't going to be buying a car at HONDA CARS OF CLARKSVILLE, even if they call tomorrow and offer it for free. To be treated this way, no matter if they liked our offer or not, is just ridiculous.
Epilogue: I realize that what we asked for is a lot, but with so many stories on here of people getting $21.5K for this car, we felt like we would just try to see what we could get. We were essentially offering $22,554 for an Accord EX V6, with visor, wood grain kit, and spoiler -- a little low, but not verbally-attack-us low.
    Know what I mean?

Got LX V4 4dr auto for 17.2 k last weekend at Seattle. Not a good deal I think. Most of buyers
here got better prices than mine.

I am considering to install keyless entry myself.
Is it easy to do? any advice?
  • ravynravyn Member Posts: 101
i was quoted a base price of $18,350 + tax, tags, freight and proc. fee which brought the out-the-door price to $19,785 for an accord coupe EX 5-speed with no options, save for wheel locks. i got ripped on trade-in so i didn't do anything yet.. they offered $10k for an '00 accord coupe auto, and i know NADA resale value is between $14-15k. so no dice. but anyway.. is this a good deal?

my main problem will be selling the old car, getting the cash, and taking it to a dealer who has the car i want in stock.

Thanks, kellyima, for posting your carsdirect.com purchase experience. (message 463). I will check with them. It certainly seems easier than negotiating with dealers, which I haven't had much luck getting the discounts. If anyone has any advise or questions I should ask when purchasing through carsdirect, would appreciate your opinions.

I just purchased on '02 Accord LX with AT and no options for $15,750 plus tax, tags, and freight from a dealership in Rockville, MD. I compared prices at over eight dealerships and this was the only one willing to drop below $16K. All the dealerships I talked to only had between 1 to 9 LXs left on their lot. Only a couple indicated they were getting any additional shipments of '02s.

Just bought the 02 LX-A (ABS and alloy wheel). Guess I didnt do that well. Anyone with similar config? whats your price?
  • jmellenbjmellenb Member Posts: 35
I wanted one of these since I like alloy wheels, but don't want a sunroof (like the EX). I was quoted $19500 in Kansas City, so I gave up on it. Our plain LX automatics go for $16900, so I think dahdahdah2000 did great. The LX-A with ABS is also very hard to find.

From what I can tell, the 5 year 4.75% financing for Honda Accords ends Sept 3rd. Does the $1250 cash back also expire Sept. 3rd, or does that expire at the end of August?

    Thanks

I remember recently seeing ads in the Chicago papers for EX-V6's for $20,999 including freight (Jacobs Twin Honda etc). I am just curious what BS you got from the dealers when you went in with the ad. Was it any different than the "oh, that car already sold this morning" :-)

Being offered $18,999 for 02 LX V6 Coupe, sound good? They want a 500 deposit before shipping it from the other dealer, should I be concerned? Thanks
