I am in the LA area and I have a quotes for 19688 and 19800 for an Automatic 4-cyl Accord EX coupe. I think these are good deals, but I thought I'd check in with the board. Also, I got a quote for an LX special edition for high 17's. Is it worth the difference in price for an EX?
The answer is fairly simple...the internet guy will usually provide you with two numbers...the price of the car and the OTD price...if you want more info then just ask them to break the whole thing down.... With posters on here....you are giving people the wrong number when you are posting the price of the car plus all of the junk fees...just post the price of the car...the other fees do not factor in because not all regions are the same... The junk fees they pay in California are not the same we pay here in Florida... If I post the price of the car I bought it is going to be for the car only...some people like to post the price of the car + dest. which I can't figure out...everyone pays the same for the dest. fee...The junk fees you are referring to are by region...and like I said in my last post...if you ask the dealer to breakdown the price then you have a base to work off of...I don't care what junk fees someone pays in California when I live in Florida...what I care about is what they paid for their car...plus any options...
I disagree. If dealer A quotes me $19,800 and dealer B (located in the same area as dealer A) quotes me $20,000 which is cheaper? You don't know unless you know exactly what the "junk fees'" are. For illustration purpose, let's say the rest of the price breaks down as follows (of course they don't mention the rest in the price until you walk in their dealer):
Dealer A: Quoted Price: $19,800 (what you see in their quote) Doc. fee and other junk fees: $600 TTL: $2,000 OTD: $22,400
Dealer B: Quoted Price: $ $20,000 (what you see in their quote) Doc. fee and other junk fees: $100 TTL: $2,000 OTD: $22,100
Now, tell me again who is cheaper and how would you know who is cheaper if you don't include the junk fees. The reality is that even within the same area, dealers will not quote you on the same basis, and dealers in the same area (unless set by law like in CA) may charge different documentation fee, for instance. That's done by design, so that higher priced dealers still get customers to shop at their dealers thinking their prices are lower. Also, they may or may not include destination fee in their "quoted price", which is another trick to make their prices seem lower. So, I don't understand why you're saying that the most useful information on this forum is the price without all the junk fees. If I quote you $10 for the car (and obviously I'm being fictitious here) and then charge $20,000 for junk fees (which you don't think is necessary to include in this forum) is $10 a good price for the car? I would say I don't know unless I find out what the junk fees are.
Also, I should add that if people are comparing prices in the same geographic area, than the most relevant price for comparison purpose would be the OTD price as taxes, title and license would be the same (% wise) within that area (county).
Great Forum! I'm currently looking to buy a 2005 Accord EX AT no leather. After doing lots of HW, a price around $20,500 including dest and option (rear wing spoiler) is sounding like a good deal. This does not include TTL. The current price on Carsdirect is lower. Has anyone ever bought a car online from that site? Easy? Recommended? I'm located in the SF Bay Area and might go that route.
I agree that OTD pricing should be included in these posts. I understand that taxes and other fees may vary so perhaps all figures should be listed i.e.: Car price + Tax + Registration + Dealer Fee + etc. = OTD. I feel that this way everyone can get the information they may need.
By the way my OTD price for a '05 Accord Ex Sedan 4 cyl M/T w/o leather was $20,500 after trade. I got $850 for a trade that was equal to Kelley Blue Book value.
For a many years, I wanted to tell someone this story of mine.
I was stationed in a place called Adak, AK Known as a "Birth Place of Winds". It was a Naval Station. War buffs would know this island (During WWII, over 400 U.S. Army Soldiers died frozen due to the ferocious cold).
It is located in Aleution islands..half way between U.S. and Russia.
In 1995..I was stationed up there...and at this time...Island was becoming a bare bone due to the base closure in lessthan a year.
Anyhow, there it was...a junk yard piled up with old cars. I'll try to make this story short...
I saw a dark brown colored Honda Civic. 50% of the body had a rust. The engine hood was absent. The engine was fully exposed to the nature for years..If i had a pic..you folks would laugh...b/c of its condition. The condition of this beatup Civic had gone through...11 mths out 12 months is SNOW and RAIN. Lots of Salt and WIND. Lack of Maintenance is another thing...BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Civic RAN!!! LOL I couldn't believe it. It ran good for that matter. We drove this undying Civic all over the snow...for months til the day had come for us to leave behind this friend of ours!
Forever...In an remote island of Adak, AK "birthplace of Winds".
I sometimes think of this car even now...and have giggles..at age 35 LOL.
Yes, I'm getting a coupe 4cyl. Those are good quotes. From Carsdirect? I understand they will get your car from a partner dealership. Sounds like an easy way to buy a car.
You are lucky because Bay Area dealers seem to be pricing the Accord very aggressively (at least they were back in May). I paid $20,000 before TTL in May for my EX-4cyl AT sedan in So.Cal. At the time, I got a quote of $19,445 before TTL for the same car from AutoWest in Fremont. I got a higher quote from Anderson Honda in Palo Alto, but they had a guarantee that they would beat any Bay Area dealer's quotes by $100, which means I could have gotten the car for $19,345. Ultimately I decided I didn't want to travel to the Bay Area and bought it locally. I'm not sure what a rear spoiler costs, what is the current FTD incentive (back in May it was rumored to be up to $900), or if the demand-supply equation has changed in the last couple of months. My recommendation is to request quotes from these two and other Bay Area dealers through their internet departments (go to their websites). You may find the best prices this way. Just for comparison purposes, at the time I got these quotes, I also checked the carsdirect.com for the Bay Area and they were quoting $19,913. So, yes, there is a chance you can get better prices than carsdirect.com.
BTW, if you go back a couple of months there are several posts from myself and others detailing our buying experience in the Bay Area. It may be helpful.
you are correct...but when you post your experience if you don't put that you bought your car in XXX city and state then who is to know???
We are going in circles with this junk fees thing...
Like I mentioned in my other posts...if people would post their entire deal then everyone would see the total price of the car...i.e. take the purchase agreement you just signed to buy the car, place it next to the computer, and go right on down the line and list in this forum the price you paid for the car line item by line item, i.e. tire fee, battery fee, doc fee, dealer fee, tax, tag....it is that simple!
Along with listing ALL of the charges put what city and state you made your purchase in....that way if I am from that area I should know what the cars are going for in that region....All dealers in that area are going to charge close to the same fees...but if you go out of state to buy then the fees might be a bigger deal..
Again, this forum should have a base format that everyone uses to fill out when they are posting their deals...that way it is the same for everyone...go over to Real World Trade In Values forum and see what it looks like...when people use the format in that forum it is nice, neat, and to the point.... Let's do the same in this forum.....
If not, then just post the price of the car...the rest of the fees you can figure out in your own region...it's not hard...tell the dealer to breakdown every single line item of charges....I know I do...it is very easy...and some dealers will actually fax you the purchase agreement...the same one you will sign in the finance office... IMO of course...
If I was in your shoes I would buy nothing but a new one...right now as dumb as it might sound...can get a new Accord cheaper than what that used one is going to cost you....there are killer deals out there right now on Accords so go for new!!!
Do you live in the Tampa area? Let me know and I can point you in the right direction for some good deals....
It means destination not included. When its not clear, it will be slapped later on. Dealers are playing games with destination fees. They entice you with revised quotes that seem to be lower, trying to fool you into thinking destination fee is included when it was deliberately removed to make the quote look lower. By the time you realize, its too late and you are in it to neck to backout.
Yes, I live in Tampa and work in Tarpon Springs. So anywhere from Homosassa to Bradenton (actually bought my current Honda in Bradenton 14 years ago) is within my area.
I agree completely! But remember, in this forum people will post their actual purchase price (which is the situation you're describing), but also quotes they receive from a dealer and want feedback from this forum. The former it's pretty obvious, since all the information is right there in the purchase agreement and should be a "no brainer" listing that detailed information in this forum. My "beef" is with the latter, when people post something like, "I got a quote for $XXX for the XX model. Is this a good price?" All I'm saying is that I, nor anybody else will be able to give an objective feedback (good price or not) if the poster doesn't mention whether this $XXX quote includes destination, junk fees and where he or she is located. Or worse, the poster may get the wrong feedback.
I agree we are starting to go on circles here. So, this will be my last post on this particular subject.
Tampa Hondaland Brandon Honda Regal Honda (Lakeland)
Which Accord are you looking for? LX, EX, EX-L? 4cyl, V6...Coupe/Sedan?
I can turn you on to a salesman if you like....but I can also find out a general price if you want....Tampa Hondaland and Brandon Honda are owned by the same Corp. Although they do compete against each other...for pride reasons I'm sure...
That's interesting about prices in So. Cal for the 05 Accord. I once heard that Accord prices are cheaper down there. It all depends I suppose. A rear spoiler is about $500 according to Oakland Honda's website. Current FTD incentive is $1250 according to Edmunds. After crunching numbers I'd pay $20k before TTL. Anything lower than that is a great deal. Someone asked about DMV fees in California. Just go to the DMV website and they have a Vehicle Registration fee calculator you can use to get all fees and taxes for any new car. Plug and Print. Mine came to $1933 total for TTL.
Thanks for the info. I'll check out those dealerships you mentioned. Now, if I could only find out what the 06 Accord coupe will look like. Wonder if it's worth waiting for.
Yes, the $22,849 was the OTD price. New car is silver EX-V6 leather w/o Navi.
Can you give a price break down? The invoice on EX-V6 w/o navi is $24,673 including destination. Assuming 3% holdback and $1,250 FTD puts the car at $24,673 - $821 - $1,250 = $22,602, which is the price where the dealer makes zero profit. Add TTL on top of that. Even if you pay no taxes in NH it's hard to believe somebody would sell you a car at zero profit, or even at a loss. Did this transaction include a trade-in?
The price is amazing. Got it thru the internet dept(would never deal w/ anybody but the internet salesguys). Where is the internet dept? Can I get your email? Do you think I can get same price for Honda Accord06 DX VP at Jan, 2006
OK. My strategy when buying a new car is to make a firm decision about what make/model, trim level, and color I want and then to start sending emails to the dealers within a reasonable distance from my house. I had decided to get a silver Accord EX-V6, leather, w/o Navi. and requested a quote on that from roughly 20 dealers. Some of the responses were good, some absurd ("Great news! We can do that for you for $27k!" Yeah, thanks) The response from Commonwealth was for $22,500. I then called and asked about any dealer-prep or doc fees and was told $99 doc fee.
Partway through the sales write up, the salesman says something about a $515 destination charge. I pointed out that my communication with the internet sales deptartment indicated that my total cost was going to be $22,500 + $99. After a go-round with the sales manager (who I had had the phone conversation with), and a review of their "invoice" for the car, a compromise was reached with me paying $22,750 + $99. My wife and I were comfortable with this since it was still less than any other quote we had received.
My old car was not part of the deal.
I only wish I had thought to have them NOT put the dealer badge on the back of my new car! I completely forgot about it, so I'll probably have to take it off myself one of these days.
that's a great price. what was the price before taxes and registration?
In New Hampshire you pay the taxes and registration fees at the town hall when you register your car, so the price I posted does not include any taxes or registration fees.
We have a no haggle quote for a 2005 4cyl EXL manual transmission for the following:
$22050 car including dest +$299 doc +TTL
Is this a fair deal or should we start haggling elsewhere? Apparently the manual transmissions are pretty scarce (we go up in the mountains a lot and need a stick). Another dealer said there are only 4 more 2005's headed to Colorado/Wyoming, so I'm wondering if the dealers are going to mark up the MT's a bit due to the niche market here in the Rockies?
Here's to hoping that Honda brings back some Accord financing deals in August!
I just checked Edmunds and they say the FTD incentive is $1250 for a EX 2dr Coupe (2.4L 4cyl 5A) so I believe that is the FTD at this time for V6 or 4cyl.
Also just got quotes from several bay area dealers for a EX 2dr Coupe 4 cyl auto around $19,938 including dest and fees before TTL. Sounds pretty good.
Enchilada, I never got your email. I told the dealship about you and I have a price of $22,500 OTD on this car for the both of us. I'm trying to help you out!! They are running out of stock. Email me asap and I will give you my phone number and we can go buy together if you are serious. This is the lowest price I have seen by far. $1400 under invoice!!! My email is UFCRULES1@AOL.COM
We bought a Honda Odyssey in Memphis (Dobbs-Covington Pike) in Feb because we were able to get a much better deal than in Nashville. Now we are getting ready to look for an Accord for our son. We were thinking of used, but we'll probably look at both new and used.
The salesman that helped us at Dobbs Covington is no longer there, so I'm wondering if you could share the salesmen's names at the two Honda dealers that you dealt with. I figure that since we did so much better in Memphis before, we might as well just start there this time.
The dealership that gives fantatic deal is anderson. I got the internet quote from their manager. I dont know how I can share this with you. do u have an email address?
Need some advice please. I'm in Chicago (9.0% sales tax; $143 for new plates), and wondering how much a new EX Cloth Copue OTD should be with NO dealer installed equipment.
Reponses, greatly appreciated, even if you're not in the Chicagoland area. Thx.

Are you looking for a 2 dr or a sedan? If 2 dr, then I can share the quote I have got.
Are you looking for a 4cyl or V6?

I'm interested in your quote for a coupe.
My first choice was a 4 cylinder but have looked at some V6s also.

It breaks down: $19,902(sale price) + $198(dealer office fee) - $850(trade- in) +
$1155(6% sales tax) + $95(tag fee) = $20,500 (OTD price)
Perhaps I could have done better, but I am happy to get this over with.
Thanks for the forum,

Iam planning to buy this one. Before this weekend, I will post the stats and the dealership name so others can get an idea.

Yes, the $22,849 was the OTD price. New car is silver EX-V6 leather w/o Navi.

Would appreciate assistance in getting the best price.

1st quote was $22,800
2nd quote was $23,500
Both prices are just the car and destination. NOT sales tax, DMV or doc fees.
Can anyone tell me...what a fair and decent price is to pay??
I was shooting for $22,500....but I know there is a $750 dealer rebate, so maybe closer to $22,000???? Please help!!! Its my first new car!!
